Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Let;s get rolling everyone.

JP (New York City)

Hey Bill. Enjoy reading the chats and blogs very much. As a KC fan, do you see Bruce Arians as a HC possibility and how about trading for Cousins or Matt Flynn?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Thanks ... I like Arians as a possible Chiefs' candidate a lot. I think a look at Cousins could be smart, too. It's not a great rookie class. It might be worth a third-round pick.

Jason (Colorado)

Do you think the NFL would move to a larger playoff bracket? I feel like the system they already have is perfect!

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Look at the blog. We did a poll today. We hated it 9-1. I was part of the majority.

Jason (Colorado)

Can the Patriots be beat? They looked pretty incredible on Monday night!

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Sure, they've been beaten three times this season. But they will be very dififuclt to beat in the postseason. The defense seems better.

chad (st. joseph,mo)

with the QB class not being up to last years standards, what should the chiefs do trade back or take best overall player at # 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Well, I don't think the trade market will be hot because there no great QBs. So, I think its best available player.

Jason (Colorado)

What would you think about Denver hosting a Superbowl?Think it will ever happen without a dome?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I used to live in Denver. It can be great in the first week of Feb. It can also be really dang cold. Risky, but I think the city and stadium would be a great host.

RJ (Estes Park, CO) [via mobile]

Bill do you believe Peyton deserves the MVP this season? Brady seems to have catapulted past him last week, for a performance against a Texans defense that had already been handled by the likes of Chad Heene for 4 TD's and Aaron Rogers for 6 TD's.

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

We just had a poll and I voted for Manning. It's close. Both he and Brady are having great years.

Jason (Colorado)

How much longer can Phillip Rivers under perform and accomplish very little, before he is no longer considered an elite quarterback?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

Well, i don't think he is considered an elite QB anymore because of the last two seasons. But I think he can still be a good player for four-six more years if a better supporting cast.

Natan M (TX)

Okay so what issues would Kansas City have by signing Michael Vick, I think he's still a good quarterback, and although inconsistent, the team needs somebody who can make plays, not a "get her done" type quarterback like Alex Smith who runs an offense. Kansas City's problem is scoring and I think Michael Vick could do that. Plus getting to draft another defender would be nice.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I'm all for the Chiefs getting a birdge QB. I'm just not big on Vick fititng with that team. I think his better days are behind him.

Jeffrey (Shurtliff)

What are the chances when sean Payton comes back to coach he goes else where? say, San Diego?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I'd say small.

Andrew (Norfolk, VA)

BW, As a Charger fan this year has been up and down as far as the excitement level. I'm happy to see Norv and AJ finally getting walking papers. But as far as the draft goes we should end up with a top15 maybe even top10 pick this year. Id say that CB is the most pressing need defensively for us. Do you agree? And is there anyone that could be available in this range that would be worth the pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I think they need to look at an OL first and then decide the market as far as value goes. But that is the greatest need.

Mike San Jose CA [via mobile]

Hey Bill, I was wondering what you think the Raiders are going to do with Rolando? Any chance we see him get dealt to Jacksonville at the end of the season for some draft picks? Or will they simply cut him and take their loss?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Draft picks?Who would give anything more than late-round pick, especially with a big contract, for a guy who has been bad on the field and trouble off of it?My guess is he gets cut after the season.

Super Charger (SD)

Is this Ryan Matthews last year to prove himself in SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I think he gets next year. Then, oit be cut-bait time.

Super Charger (SD)

Which fan base would revolt more if the current brass is kept intact: KC or SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I'd say SD because the brass has been there longer.Neither would be thrilled, though.

Norv Fan Club (SD)

The Chargers have had tons of injuries at all major positions on offense. If Norv wins out, doesn't he deserve another year with a healthy team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Didn't we say that last year?

Anthony (Denver)

Is Jack Del Rio coaching in Denver next year? And how much longer will John Fox coach?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Just a guess, but I do think Del Rio will be back next year. As far as Fox, I'd say he stays as long as Manning does, at least.

Tyler (Denver)

New England and Denver are the hottest teams in the league right now. Is it inevitable that they meet again in January? If so, who comes out on top?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Depends on where it is played. Pats will be very difficult to beat on the road.

Norv Fan Club (SD)

Norv is always blamed for the Chargers failures, but AJ Smith is the guy that let Vincent Jackson walk, traded up to get Matthews, and signed Meachem and Royal. Why doesn'the get more blame?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

You are right and he does get his share of the blame. That's why they are both likely on their way out.

Mike(Stockton) [via mobile]

Do u believe the raiders should move to a 3-4 defense or stay in a 4-3....I think they have the players to move to 3-4 and it would help the secondary

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

I thought they would this year. It depends on their personnel next year, but it's a posisbility.

Derek (MO)

Are there any sexy picks at the top of the draft that could entice a team to overpay for the Chiefs #1 overall? Which teams might pursue? Thanks Bill, love your work!

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I think that situation is still developing. I'd lean no. The best players are on defense and their is a lot of them, so the choices may mean teams want for one of those players to come to them.

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Huge non-football breaking news: ESPN reports Josh Hamilton goes to Angels.

SILVER AND bLACK (OAKLAND)

The Raiders just have to part ways with Knapp and Tarver after the season, right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Maybe ... I think Knapp is more likely.

SILVER AND bLACK (OAKLAND)

PLEASE TELL ME THE RUMORS THAT CHUCKY IS RETURNING TO OAKLAND ARE TRUE!!!!!!!!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Well, both the Raiders and Grudne say no ... I beleive them.

Super Charger (SD)

With the 32nd pick in the 2013 NFL draft the San Diego Chargers select .... A late Norvember is under way and the Chargers will make a deep playoff run! Mark my words!!!

The king (wichita)

Would you take tebow over cassel or quinn

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

OK.On Tebow: Nah.

Mike San Jose CA [via mobile]

Is McFadden playing his final season in Oakland? If I recall correctly he is in a contract year and he hasn't been able to flourish into the star running back we need. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

He has one more year. I'm not sure. I could see the team moving away from him because of the injuries. I think it will be a story to follow in the offseason.

Tyler (Denver)

When will the Broncos have competition within the AFC West again? Denver is the only team keeping this division from being the worst in NFL history.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I thought it was going to be this year. I mean, do any of the other three temas seem close?

Super Charger (SD)

Will Manti Te'o go # 1 to KC or will they go a different route?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

I think he is one of the options, yes.

Super Charger (SD)

Could you see Oakland landing both Tracy Porter and Nnamdi next season assuming they are released?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

They could be possibilites. i think both come available. Are either great?

Ryan (Lake Tahoe, CA)

How many more wins will it take for Dennis Allen to save his job? Every loss, his seat gets hotter. Us RaiderNation want stability, but 3-13 doesn't sound good, even if we are rebuilding.

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

That's up to Mark Davis. I think 3-13 would not make him pleased at all. Oakland needs to win against the Chiefs in their last home game. Another thing we haven't mentioned much, but the Raiders are 3-10 with a pretty easy schedule. That won't please Davis.

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Stan (Fremont)

WE have many teams that are having success in the Bay Area. The 49ers, Giants and Warriors all have documented friendships in the lockerroom. Do you think the buddy angle is overplayed or is it a factor?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

You tell me, Brubaker.

Andy (Chicago)

Can T Jones really play corner? He isn't that big. Is he going to get sometime their this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I just don't know. He was drafted to be a explosive RB. Turning him into a CB seems desperate to me and he is the one who has brought it up.

Jake (StL, MO)

Hi, Bill! Big fan. What do you think is the biggest key to the Broncos winning on Sunday? Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Thanks ... Playing a complete game. Better better in the first half and containing Rice.

SILVER AND bLACK (OAKLAND)

I really think if SD wins out then Norv comes back. Didn't Spanos give him the game ball after the Steelers game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

He eneds to get to the playoffs. Faint chances.

Mike San Jose CA [via mobile]

Jacoby Ford. Do you see him staying a Raider after 2 seasons with foot injuries? He happens to be my favorite Raider receiver for what he accomplished with Gradkowski and Campbell under center.

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

He should get another chance next year to show he can get back to form. Very explosive.

Jack (Boston)

How do you rank V. Miller as pass rusher compared to the better players you've covered the last 10 + years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

One og the very best. it's just not pass-rush. He is becoming a complete player. He will be one of the best defnsive players in the NFL for the next several years.

Brandon (Washington, D.C.)

Bill, why isn't John Elway being mentioned as a frontrunner for Executive of the Year? He took a huge gamble on Manning and has drafted/signed free agents brilliantly. He seems to have made few mistakes, if any. John Fox for Coach of the Year also. I know he has Manning but the Defense is in the top 5 when they were at the bottom of the league when he took over. I think Denver Shoud have MVP, Defensive MVP, Comeback Player, Coach and Executive of the yer winners. I am biased though. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

He will be in the conversation, I believe.

Dave (Long Beach)

Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson played for the LA Raiders, both features on TV recently, is the NFL preparing the fans for the revival of the LA Raiders

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Or just highlighting two great players.

James (Denver)

Do you see the Broncos going after a running back with Mgahee nearing the end of his career? If so in the draft or FA?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Depends on Moreno. This is his chance to imrpess the team. They also have Hillman. But I could see another piece being part in in some form.

Dave (Long Beach)

Bill - If the Raiders get a top 5 pick and Teo and Louteli are gone, will they draft the tackle from Texas AM..(best player available), i think they need a big man inside.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Gotta go with best defensive player.

Lamonica (Oakland)

Where do you see Cassel going next year? Just trying to latch on as a backup?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Yep, pretty much.

Phil (Colorado)

Hey Bill, who deserves to win the DPLOY award more Von Miller or JJ Watt?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Arkins might be in the mix.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

How long will it take Mackenzie to turn things around in Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

A couple nore years.

Ed (San Diego)

Are we pretty much looking at OL and CB heavy draft for San Diego? It would be nice to see the new GM actually draft kids from schools we've heard of.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

They could use help nearly everwhere on offense and in the secondary.

Sam (NY)

A lot of bloggers are picking Peyton over Brady for MVP. Even though Brady has thrown less picks, what do you think gives Manning the edge in the MVP race?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Impact on the team.

Ryan (Lake Tahoe, CA)

Who of the following will be gone next year?Palmer, Seymour, Kelly, Lechler and Allen?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

I'd say the most likely to go are Seymour, Kelly and Lechler.

Michael (Council Bluffs)

What is your best guess percentage that McCoy will still be OC of Denver next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I think Carolina will come after him hard as head coach.

Tarek (NYC)

Any truth to the rumors that Oakland may move T. Jones from Rb to CB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Not a rumor. He said he'd be open to it. It's up to the staff.

Lamonica (Oakland)

Do you think Matt Moore from Miami would be a good bridge in KC? He has proven capable of winning in Miami in limited starts.

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

He's OK. But casn he really help as a starter?

Tyler (Denver)

If you had to guess right now, what would the seeding in the AFC look like for the playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Just a guess:1. New E.2. Houston3. Den4 Balt5 Indy6. Cincy

Lamonica (Oakland)

Hue JAckson proved very capable at running an offense in OAK. Why do you think he hasn't been offered any coordinator positions?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I think he'll get some looks this offseason.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour folks. Enjoy Week 15.
