Chat with Jean-Jacques Taylor

JJT
  (1:01 PM)

y'all ready to roll. I gotta cut it a little short today so I can be on ESPN's Outside The Lines in a little while. Let's gooooooo!!

Zane (Dallas)

is there anyway the rangers cant trade for trumbo?

JJT
  (1:02 PM)

why would the Angels do that? You can always trade for a guy, but I don't see that happening

James (Dallas)

Hey JJT thanks for doing these chats. Anyway what's your take on Anthony Spencer? Do you think this is just a player performing in a contract year, or has he finally figured it out? I tend to lean towards the latter simply because he wasn't this good last year which was also a contract year.

JJT
  (1:04 PM)

Last year was a contract job and he was a little better than average. This year he has been phenomenal. You just can't will yourself to play great in a year. He has been a playmaker this year. There's no complaint you can make about his game. The question is whether the Cowboys believe they can get this again

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Will the Dallas Cowboys Clinch the NFC East if the Beat the Redskins & the Giants are Tied at 10-6?

JJT
  (1:07 PM)

if the Cowboys win their last 2 games they win the east.

Morice (Virginia Beach, VA)

When will the cowboys get a safety who can react to a pass play on time consistently? Sensabaugh half the time doesn't have a clue what he's doing and should I even start on Mccray?

JJT
  (1:10 PM)

Did you miss the big hit he made in the 1Q against Pittsburgh to break up a pass and nearly cause a fumble? Did you miss the hit he made on Gresham to break up a TD against Cincy? Did you miss the form tackle he made on a key 3rd down play against Cleveland to help the comeback? Did you miss teh big hit that led to pick and helped the Cowboys rally from 23-0 down to the NY Giants? He's not a great player, but he's a solid player - and he's making plays this year.

HomeUnderdog (Pittsburgh PA)

Several weeks ago you didn't think the Cowboys could come up with five wins to make the playoffs. Do you still feel that way with two games left and Romo playing above his norm, or do you think the smoke and mirrors will be revealed over the last two weeks of the season. If so, is JG safe without a playoff appearance or win? Thanks.

JJT
  (1:11 PM)

I still don't think they can win 5 in a row, but when they were 3-5 they had demonstrated ZERO tangible evidence they could do it. Now they have shown you they can do it. They also have so many injuries on D that they're compromised. That said, Red J is your coach no matter what next year

Greg (CT)

IF, big if, we were to make the playoffs would we be able to get any key players back? Ratliff, Lee, Carter etc...

JJT
  (1:11 PM)

Ratliff yes. The others on IR and done for the year

Greg (CT)

What do you think has led to Spencer's enormous improvement this year? Love the way he is playing!

JJT
  (1:12 PM)

He's matured into the scheme. He's playing with confidence and purpose and he knows exactly what's required of him. When you don't think on the field, the game becomes easy

nate keyman (sioux falls)

JJTi don't this team will make it to the playoffs what do you think.

JJT
  (1:12 PM)

I don't think so. winning 5 in a row is difficult to do

Riley (Las Colinas)

You said we were gonna lose decisively to Cincy, then the Steelers last week . . For the sake of the Cowboys, please tell me you are picking the Saints this week!

JJT
  (1:13 PM)

Did I hear form you when I picked them to beat the Seahawks and they lost? That's what I thought. SMH

Adam (Toronto)

The Romo bootleg call..what was Garrett thinking? And the squib kick..I don't think a W should overshadow what are still some questionable calls being made.

JJT
  (1:15 PM)

I don't really get caught up in individual play calls. The bootleg didn't work that doesn't mean it was a bad play. It means it didn't work. The squid kick was executed poorly buy Bailey, who didn't hit it right. What about the 3rd down run to Murray for a TD. That was a good call. When it comes to big plays, I'm about the big picture

Morice (Virginia Beach, VA)

How effective will Demarcus Ware be in the last two games considering he's basically playing on one arm?

JJT
  (1:15 PM)

He'll do the best he can and hope that's good enough

John T. Gold (Salt Lake City)

JJT- I can't tell on television but it seems that the Cowboy defense is designed to limit the deep throws, back to the off-season question is this due to poor pass rush or lack of confidence on the back end? Cowboys spent a lot of money not to have confidence in the secondary..

JJT
  (1:17 PM)

last weke with the game on the line, they were playing Sterling Moore, Eric Frampton, Michael Coe in the secondary. That wasn't by choice

Pete (NC)

Romo has been outstanding the offense is now clicking with Murray's return. Heck, it has even made the line better. Questions are on defense. Can Ryan continue to put the pieces in place with new faces to continue this winning streak?

JJT
  (1:21 PM)

It's going to be difficult. It's not an excuse, but you simply can't expect guys you pick up off the streets in December to be better than guys you paid big money to be key contributors this season. The Cowboys are just hoping to keep it close and win it at the end. So far, so good

James (Houston)

Can you please write an article about how the Cowboys are 3-0 in December, and no matter how they finished, they exercised the December ghosts of old?

JJT
  (1:21 PM)

what if they lose the last 2?

Howie (DC)

The Skins have won five in a row but overall the Boys are better. We have job opportunities in DC. I think you just like the attention of picking or speaking against the Boys.

JJT
  (1:22 PM)

Didn't the Redskins lead 28-3 at halftime in Dallas? Didn't RG3 dominate? Didn't they drive the length of the field for a FG when Dallas had a chance to tie it up? I deal in reality - not what you want reality to be.

Austin (Texas)

JTT, that humble pie is sitting in the fridge waiting for you. You better hope you don't have to eat it...

JJT
  (1:23 PM)

I don't remember you telling me at 3-5 they were going to the playoffs? Shoot me that e-mail again. Thanks

Derrin (Plano, TX)

Were the Angels bidding against themselves at 25 million per for Josh Hamilton?

JJT
  (1:24 PM)

I don't know. They wanted the deal done, so they paid the freight. Josh will perform well for them this year. If they can add a legit starter to the rotation with Weaver and CJ they'll be really good

Howie (DC)

All the talk here is the Skins and RG3 as it should be but I don't see them beating the Boys in the final week with the East on the line. I think winning on Thanksgiving will cost them in the final week. Thoughts?

JJT
  (1:24 PM)

Why? The Redskins are playing well.

Mike (VA)

I like how Romo is getting the other receivers involved - Beasley, Harris, Hanna. This will help them and make Bryant and Austin even better. What is the biggest reason for the offensive turnaround without using the name Murray?

JJT
  (1:27 PM)

Why can't we use Murray's name? He makes everyone else better from Witten to Romo to Garett. He gives the offense balance and opens up the draw play and the play-action game. The most important thing you need on offense is balance. It also helps that the QB has been making good decisions and is doing a nice job

John C. (Tulsa)

As a Rob Ryan doubter, I have been impressed by his recent coaching efforts. How do you feel about him?

JJT
  (1:27 PM)

no doubt, he has done a nice job making the defense work with a bunch of guys off the street. He's getting good performances from his best players - Ware, Spencer and Carr.

Marten (Cali)

JJT is Brent your outside the line topic?

JJT
  (1:28 PM)

yep...talking Josh Brent on OTL

John C. (Tulsa)

Has Jeremy Parnell played well enough to consider him an acceptable replacement for Doug Free?

JJT
  (1:29 PM)

Too early to tell. Maybe, he's making Free play better. There will be competition in the offseason

Greg (CT)

What's your thoughts on Cole Beasley, I know Dwayne Harris is starting to shine but I think Cole can be a major weapon in the slot.

JJT
  (1:30 PM)

Harris better. He's a stronger runner and does a good job running routes. He's becoming a play maker and can do physical things Beasley can't

raul (rio grande city)

JJT, can Lissemore find a home @NT?

JJT
  (1:31 PM)

I think they like him to be a swing player. He's not as big as you'd like at NT and doesn't have Ratliff's quickness to compensate

scott (bloomington illinois)

when is charlie peprah coming back?

JJT
  (1:32 PM)

let's see if he practices Wednesday and Thursday. If he does, then good chance he'll play

Bob (oklahoma)

I think having Brent on the sidelines sends a bad message on a national scale. I'm guessing someone at the home NFL office told Jerry to pull the plug this week. Your thoughts.

JJT
  (1:33 PM)

Brent didn't want to go. Teammates talked him into it and picked him up. He left at HT because he was becoming a distraction. Cowboys and league said it was bad idea.

brad (oklahoma)

D. Harris is looking like a playmaker. Has he firmly cemented himself as the No. 3 guy for 2013?

JJT
  (1:33 PM)

He was on the field in the 4Q and Ogletree was on the bench. enough said.

george (Dallas)

Do you think the mavs make a trade if we lose these next 7 games.

JJT
  (1:34 PM)

not sure it matters. This season is all about OJ Mayo. Is he a piece worth keeping at the end of the season? Hopefully, he is. Time to rebuild. It has been a GREAT run

John C. (Tulsa)

By the way, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thanks for your thoughtful efforts in the chats.

JJT
  (1:34 PM)

thanks much

James (Houston)

I'm praying the Cowboys win the division just so we can get revenge on the Seahawks, this time in Dallas. Do you think this Dallas team right now is much better than the one that got whipped in Seattle?

JJT
  (1:35 PM)

I think the Cowboys are focused on New Orleans

Cowboyfan (Cowboyland)

I picked the Cowboys to make the playoffs this year and never wavered. I could be right I could be wrong. Its not a big deal we've all been wrong before...

Tony (Richmond, CA)

What type of long term deal does Jerry Jones give Tony Romo? Will it approach the annual salary level of top QBs like Manning and Rodgers?

JJT
  (1:36 PM)

Heck no. He's not as good as them and he doesn't have a ring. Shed no tears for him, though. He'll be OK

John (Fort Worth, tx)

After Sundays game how do you feel about the performance of the Cowboys offensive in particularly Doug Free?

JJT
  (1:36 PM)

gonna watch offense later. Already watched D. Looking forward to seeing him. Didn't hear Woodley's name much, which meant he must've done OK

Brad (oklahoma)

JUst an observation. I love Witten, but he's one of the worst in the league at yards after catch. That playoff loss in Seattle, man he got plugged at the 1 yard line and it was initially ruled a first down, but then revesed. Anyway, Witten had some YAC on Sunday and even scored a long TD. Great stuff.

JJT
  (1:37 PM)

Dude has 90+ catches will have 1,000 yards and is among the league leaders in first down catches and you wanna fuss about that? C'mon man. He does what he does.

Morice (Virginia Beach, VA)

With the plays Harris and Beasley have made this year, what is Ogletree still doing on this team?

JJT
  (1:38 PM)

cause if Dez or Miles goes down, he knows both positions and the slot.

Ted (Dallas)

Based on what you have seen from the mavs so far, are you prepared to say (with confidence) that the Mavericks will be a play-off team this season?

JJT
  (1:38 PM)

I didn't think they were a playoff team before the season

DropPucks (Dallas)

JJT, will there be Stars hockey this season? Does anybody care? How is new Stars owner handling this, or is ready to bail like the rest?

JJT
  (1:39 PM)

sorry bro, owners and players have ruined the sport. I hadn't thought about it in days

chris villarreal (dallas )

eveen though dalllas is playing 6 new uys on the defense, do you think it is possible that maybe these back up guys are just right for the package in RR defense??? im not saying they are any bruce carter or sean lee, but is it so hard to presume that their replacements could be talented enough to take over??

JJT
  (1:40 PM)

No. He's simplified it a lot to help limit the mental busts. He's playing zone, hoping not to give up big play. Trying to make teams drive until they make a mistake and force FGs

JJT
  (1:41 PM)

This has been a great chat and I wish we had more time this week because there are a lot of great questions I didn't get to, but I have to go downtown an shoot ESPN's OTL at 2 pm....U can always hit me on Twitter @JJT_ESPNDallas or on Facebook with questions. Peace
