Welcome to the post-Christmas AFC North chat. I will be yours for the next half hour. Let's get to some chatting.
How far do you think that the Cincinnati Bengals & the Baltimore Ravens will be in the Playoffs?
I don't see either team winning more than one playoff game.
What is more true from Ravens/Giants game? Ravens show who they really are or Giants just aren't all that good.
I will select both. Ravens were on top of their game, especially first half, and the Giants never showed up.
Why aren't the Bengals getting more attention because of the historical back-to-back playoff berths? And do you think Marvin Lewis will be back next year?
Most people won't buy into the Bengals until they win a playoff game under Marvin Lewis.
Happy holidays Mr. H. With the rising quality of play from b. pierce could the ravens look to permanently give him a bigger in the game plan?
Wouldn't that result in fewer touches for Ray Rice? I don't think that would happen.
The way I see it, there are three options at quarterback for next year. Bring back colt and Brandon and let them fight for it, sign a veteran to compete or Ryan mallet if mcdaniels comes to town. Drafting another one is not an option so what's the best thing to do?
A lot depends on the next GM and coach hired.
Who has been the best Bengal this year: A.J. Green or Geno Atkins?
Too hard to choose. Both could be the top players on offense and defense in the AFC North this year.
Why is Norv Turner a pipe dream for the Ravens OC next year?
Even though he has said he would consider an OC job, not sure why he would take that step down after being a head coach for all of these years.
After week 17 is finished, wich team would the bengals have a better match up against?
The Bengals would be smiling if they played in Baltimore instead of New England in the first round.
What is the expected salary cap for 2013 and how will it effect the Steelers?
There's a lot of numbers that get thrown around as far as projections go. The last number I heard, I believe John Clayton reported it, had the Steelers over $20 million.
Bengals need a #2 WR, is M. Sanu that guy or are they going draft one in the first two rounds in the draft?
Bengals like their young guys with Sanu and Marvin Jones. Andrew Hawkins is their slot guy.
Happy Holidays to you and yours Jamison. Both Marvin and Harbs seem to be talking a good game this Sunday about playing to win. Your thoughts on what will really happen? Maybe a preseason game #3 scenario or truly an all out play to win regular season game?
It's hard to rest all of your starters when you only have a 53-man roster. But both coaches should take this opportunity to take this as a bye because they're not getting one in the postseason.
Jamison:Which of the following do you find to be more likely: Phil Dawson returns to the Browns in 2013, or Josh Cribbs returns to the Browns in 2013?What is the market going to be like for either player?
I don't see either coming back. But if I had to choose, I would go with Cribbs. The franchise number for Dawson is $14 million. That's not happening. Dawson wants to go to Texas, so I don't see him re-signing.
What is the true recovery time for Heath Miller? AP came back so fast from his ACL, is that the new standard?
Adrian Peterson is a freak. No one should be compared to him. I would guess the Steelers wouldn't see Miller until training camp at the earliest. I would be shocked if he was there on the first day of camp.
Which Pittsburgh Steelers do you think will be gone next season, besides Wallace, Mendenhall and Harrison?
Casey Hampton, Max Starks.
The Ravens. You get to face Flacco, not Tom Brady.
Regarding Baltimore's 1st round playoff game, I feel like they can beat Bengals without too many problems. An emotional Colts team, however, riding on Luck's arm could pose some problems for the Raven's defense. Thoughts?
Put the Ravens on the lie detector, and my guess is they would prefer to play the Colts instead of the Bengals. Cincinnati has more playmakers and can get after the quarterback on defense. Luck has been good, but he's still a rookie and throws a lot of picks.
Are you confident that the Browns will build a top notch organization like the Steelers under the new owner Haslam. Rumors about Lombardi as GM, Chip Kelly or Josh McDaniels, etc. sure sound like more of the same. Browns fans deserve the best!!!
We'll find out a lot about Haslam and Banner based on their hires.
I've seen enough from Andy Dalton to know he's __________
.. taken a step back this year.
Hey Jamison, big Steelers and Notre Dame fan. If I am correct, with a loss and a few other teams winning and losing, Steelers could go as high as the 11th pick in the draft. In that scenario, do you foresee them making any trades or deals to move up to land Manti Te'o? Seems with an aging ILB in Foote that spot would be a position of interest, especially if someone like Te'o may be a possibility. Is this a realistic possibility or am I a crazy Steelers and Irish fan? Thanks.
Good question. I don't get into my draft mode until a few months from now. But the Steelers need to address linebacker in this draft, both inside and outside.
In 2013 Flacco will a) be franchised b) have a long term deal or c) not be a Raven. Or does a lot depend on his playoff performance?
I believe a long-term deal can still get done. Of course, I thought a deal would get done before the start of the regular season.
You're rolling through the questions! What position do you see the Steelers addressing in the early rounds of the draft?
I would go with running back, linebacker and safety. But I reserve the right to change my mind in a few months.
Are we approaching the point of calling Jimmy Smith a bust?
I talked about Smith being a disappointment a few weeks ago, and a lot of people in Baltimore jumped on me about it. If he lived up to expectations, he would be starting over Cary Williams by now.
How was baby JH's first Christmas?
It was very special. Thanks for asking.
Jamison, do you think the Steelers might franchise Mike Wallace in the offseason?
Very unlikely. Doesn't fit Haley's system.
Hey JH, I appreciate your hard work on the blog, but would like to know what your bias against the Bengals is? You have done complete chats answering no questions at all about the Bengals. I have never seen any of the other three teams in the division left entirely out. Then you post two stories about the Bengals being in the playoffs from a negative spotlight from other sources. Why not post something good about them instead of continuing to rag on them? Afterall, they are only one of two teams in the division with a winning record.
Did you read the Sunday column? Also, there has never been a chat where I ignored the Bengals. I can promise you that.
What have been the biggest issues you have seen with Shurmer?
In-game decisions like what to do on third-and-one and when to go for it on fourth down.
Biggest offseason need for the Ravens, assuming Flacco returns - left tackle, cornerback or WR?
It depends on if they're keeping Boldin next year at his $6 million salary. If they do that, I would say left tackle because Oher isn't one. The Ravens should be able to get by at corner if Webb returns to his old form.
I guess I'll consult Mike Brown on how to handle the emotional distress.
Do you watch games or just recite stats? Because my 8-year-old nephew can write down numbers, too. I've talked to personnel men who have said that Dalton has regressed. And, speaking of numbers, how many touchdowns has Dalton thrown for the other team?
With what we have seen this season, how would you rank the O-linemen that were taken by the AFC North? KO on top of those rankings?
Not a chance. Zeitler from Bengals. No one close to him as far as rookies.
Andy Dalton is a gamer. He has a little bit of Drew Brees and Brett Favre in him.. those were the words of Trent Dilfer after the Bengals drafted Dalton.
You just made Brees and Favre spit out their coffee on that one.
Memo to Bengal fans: WIN a playoff game. Ten years at the helm without a playoff victory is Marvin's legacy
Oh no, get prepared for a "You suck" comment coming up.
You don't Suck, JH.-Signed not Will
Now that's the holiday spirit.
Steelers defensive MVP?
Since NE plays the late game, why would the Ravens not play their starters on the off chance they could get the #3 seed and potentially host a second playoff game?
Can't host a second-round game. Those are hosted by top two seeds. Plus, you want the No. 4 seed so you can play Indy.
So you think you know more about the QB position that trent Dilfer?
I wouldn't say that. But do you think he's right on everything? Wow, touchy, touchy.
Why does Lawrence Timmons get no respect at inside linebacker? He is a beast and he doesn't get any nominations for Pro Bowl? I think he has had a better year then all the other Steeler Linebackers combined. Is it just the position?
I think Timmons has been the second-best defender in the division.
I think he (Jim from Sykesville) means a potential 3 vs 4 in the AFC championship game against NE
If that's the case, I think getting more rest is more important than the outside chance that the top two seeds would lose.
Appreciate all of the good questions, even the ones from Bengals fans. Talk to you next week. Hope you enjoy all of the games this weekend.
