Sorry for the late start. Let's get to it!
What is your opinion on where JHC should play next year? Safety or Linebacker?
Safety. Josh Harvey-Clemons is too light to play at outside linebacker right now but who knows where he will be in 8 months. Georgia is razor thin at safety right now and that is where he practiced all year. The Bulldogs have a decent number of linebackers but it is tough to name a pair of safeties that could start for Georgia tomorrow.
What's your take on Corey Moore? I'm not hearing a lot about him and figures he has a lot of potential next year.
Moore is a great guy but he just has not impressed the coaches with his grasp of the scheme so far. He hits like a ton of bricks but it does not appear that Scott Lakatos trusts him to be in the right spot. Spring camp could do wonders for him.
How many other SEC teams do you think would have beaten or played competitively with Notre Dame?
Maybe Notre Dame had a bad night but it looked to me like they were just a DII school out there with Alabama. I never understood the fascination with the Irish other than their record -- I know that sounds stupid but teams can compile good records against sub-par competition. If I had to guess, I would say that Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU and Florida would have beat Notre Dame on that night.
What do you think of the offensive line next year? It looks like they will be the deepest they have been probably since the early 2000s.
Georgia fans should be ecstatic about the offensive line. All of the players return and the depth is really starting to become high quality instead of just bodies. Look at the second string: Watts Dantzler, Xzavier Ward, Austin Long, Zach DeBell, Greg Pyke... the list goes on. Add Laremy Tunsil and two or three strong running backs and a quarterback who knows protections and Georgia could top even this years offensive output.
Even though you Cover Georgia College Football, What is your Favorite NFL Team?
Falcons. Used to spend summers in Flowery Branch and would go visit their facility in Suwanee. William Andrews may be may all time favorite Falcon.
Do you believe that Georgia can still have a dominant defense even with many losses of players?
I did not for most of the season. I thought, "Who is going to replace those big plays made by Alec Ogletree and Jarvis Jones?" Well as the season progressed I am still wondering who can do what Ogletree did, but Jordan Jenkins will do fine at outside linebacker. Garrison Smith will lock down a spot on the defensive line and Damian Swann could be All-SEC next year. But who will be the safeties? That could keep them from dominating. Or worse.
dO U SEE FOSTER,TUNSIL,ADAMS, AND KAMARA playin in athens next year for cmr and is wilson a good recruiter
I think Chris Wilson is a strong recruiter but we eon't know until next year. As for Reuben Foster, Laremy Tunsil, Montravius Adams and Alvin Kamara, I do not see all of them playing in Athens next year.
How good could our defense be next year? I feel that we'll be very young but very athletic and be better than people think. Thoughts?
How about good but not great? I guess that is the best way to say it.
Hey Radi, is there any truth to the rumor that bama is recruiting AK to play DB? If so,does that affect his decision?
Alvin Kamara as a defensive back? Did you just make that up? Heck Georgia and Alabama can barley sell him on the idea of lining up at receiver for a year instead of being the primary tailback, much less flipping to a spot that he doesn't play. I think you are messing with me...
Who are some players that you could see deciding to transfer or quit playing football?
I assume you mean at Georgia. I can see Dexter Morant giving up the sport as he is perpetually injured. Hutson Mason and/or Christian LeMay could transfer. Corey Moore has been frustrated and don't forget Ken Malcome and Marc Deas have already quit once. I think Mason stays.
Has Richt or Bobo said anything at all yes about taking a qb in 2014, if not could you ask them getting near signing day?
I will ask but they will give non-committal answers. They have said in years past that they were not going to take one and did (see Hutson Mason and Faton Bauta) so it doesn't really matter what they say. I don't see them offering anyone since Brice Ramsey is likely to redshirt anyway.
Should UGA still have a standard class of about 23+ in 2014?
I am thinking closer to 20
How much of an upgrade would Bellamy be over Mustafa? (sorry for spelling)
He would fit better at outside linebacker in my opinion. Davin Bellamy reminds kip of Josh Dawson and that freshman put on 20 pounds and wound up starting a game his first year. If Bellamy does that then that would be quite the better fit. If you remember that crazy highlights package that Grantham made for Bellamy then you know that Grantham wanted Bellamy pretty bad.
Fill in the blanks Radi: Georgia competes for a National championship if ________________.Georgia fans should expect ________________ to be considered a good year.
Interesting. The first blank would be "the defense gels after replacing eight starters." The second blank should read "tying for the SEC East divisional title."
Radi, do you think UGA will windup in the top 5 or 10 slots of the pre-season poll with the question marks on defense?
Mark Schlabach's Way-too-early Top 25 has the Bulldogs at No.6 so I think yes. I Know Georgia has a lot of talent on the defense but it takes them a while to get started and three of the season's toughest games are among the first four contests.
With the big recruits remaining...who do you think UGA will end up with?
Right now I would say Georgia lands Toby Johnson and Laremy Tunsil.
TJ Strippling ,Brandon Burrows and Sterling Bailey....where are they now as far a progress in their position
The standard coaching line is to say they are improving but I only expect Bailey to have any serious reps next season.
You mentioned Mason could be a possible transfer candidate. Wouldn't that be a waste for him since he's already burned his redshirt and transferring to another D1 school means he has to sit out anyway?
That was my exact rationale for saying he stays at Georgia. I mean yes he transfer to a FCS school and play two years but I just don't see him doing that.
Hey Radi what is my boy Shaq going to do on Feb. 6th?
Lol. The real Tray Matthews is in class right now. But I will play along. I think we won't know until after Shaq Wiggins' visit to South Carolina this weekend. I spoke to him Sunday and he says he is still committed but if he flips anywhere it will be to the Gamecocks.
Any official word on Kwame's decision?
I have been told he is leaving but I have not seen anything official.
Do you see Grantham making any noticeable changes to adjust for the "youth" on defense? If so what do you think we'll see next fall?
Simpler schemes would be my guess.
Your best guess playing coach right now. Who starts at both safety spots and the corner spots? Assuming they are in their nickel formation.
That is tough. So don't hold me to this. Let's say Tray Matthews and Shaq Fluker at the safety spots. Damian Swann, Sheldon Dawson and Shaq Wiggins at the cornerback spots. I am unsure what Devin Bowman will do this spring but I have heard good things about him. Reggie Wilkerson and Brendan Langley are very talented as well but I am going to cheat and use Tom Luginbill's rankings and say Wiggins gets the first crack to see the field. If he goes to Georgia that is...
On a scale from 1 - 10 how would you rate Rodney Garner as a recruiting coordinator?
Radi - Does Coach Richt give the team a warning about behaving themselves and staying out of the "Fulmer Cup" standings in the off-season? Especially worry some during Spring Break and the summer when our athletes have had issues before.
Absolutely. Think about what a four game suspension would mean this year. Starters out versus Clemson, South Carolina and LSU? Season could be over before October. But he does that every year. Sometimes they listen and sometimes they don't. I think a few of the guys on defense this past season had a sense of an entitlement after they decided to come back for their senior years.
Aaron Murray will go down in Georgia history as one of (if not the best) quarterbacks in SEC history. What type of season do you think he needs to have to go to New York and walk away with the hardware?
I think some quality wins are what he needs. The knock on Murray is that he has issues in big games. Well when he is flat on his back or running for his life it is tough to manage a game. But if he could be the game MVP on some of these national telecasts, like say against LSU or Clemson or South Carolina, then he could build the momentum for the second half of the season which is much easier. A decent showing against UF could clinch it.
You actually use Tom Luginbill's rankings for anything besides ...guy is a total whack job...i could do better than him
You are welcome to send in an application I guess. I have seen firsthand how the Scouts Inc. guys work (not to be confused with Scout) and they are amazing. I remember this year they were the laughing stock of the industry when they put Carl Lawson at No.5 in the initial rankings. Now he is at No. 2 all over the industry. Good call be the whack job.
Murray mentioned that he is working on his speed. Against teams like a South Carolina, LSU, and Florida I though that he could have used his legs more (of course you want to see him get down before the hit). What are your thoughts on this? Positive? Negative?
It is a great idea. He needs something else in his arsenal and we see how troublesome a quarterback who likes to tuck and ruin can be. Remember when he had a quality backup and had a free reign to run when all other options were gone? Those were some big plays. I think the coaches were terrified of him running this year and Murray saw what Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw did and so why not?
Thanks for stopping by folks. David Ching will be back next Wednesday. Same Bat time, same Bat channel.
