Is Boise State a real tourny team or will they drop out starting tonight vs Wyoming
Tomas: Well I think Boise, like Wyoming, is a wait and see right now. Look good but need to up the competition a bit. Mountain West will separate the pretenders, for sure.
In the Wolverines last five games, Trey Burke is averaging 20+ ppg, has 44 assists with only 4 TO's. Is it possible for Trey Burke to play any better?
Frank: Hard to imagine, isn't it? He's been outstanding.
Which big east team in your opinion could make the longest run in the ncaa tournament in march?
Brandon: Louisville. And barring injury, I think they could have the longest run of anyone in the longest run of anyone in the country, as in all the way to the title game.
Who wins Saturday when Duke travels to N.C. State. Whats the chances Duke goes undefeated if they get the win?
Josh: Big game. Different sort of pressure on both sides. NC State to prove preseason hype was deserved; Duke to stay undefeated. Think Duke wins, but would feel more certain if knew Ryan Kelly's status. Huge part. And I still say undefeated is really really hard.
Do you think Texas is real tournament team this year? Will they rebound against West Virginia tonight?
Keith: CBI Tournament, yes. They may beat West Virginia but that's not exactly a huge feather this year.
What do you think about the Panthers??
Christian: I think they are a work in progress, hence unpredictable. Like the defense.
Where do you think SDSU will end up seed wise come March.
Tom: No clue but I do think whoever emerges from the Mountain West will get a high seed and deserve it.
Who you like in the St. Joe's-Butler game tonight?
Brint: I will be in attendance, so hoping it's a good game. The Hawks have rebounded nicely. Playing good defense. But still like Butler. They can muck it up with the best of em defensively. And Rotnei Clarke is a difference maker.
Any Giant Killers out there that you have your eye on? Why should we be watching?
Alex: Besides the obvious, like Creighton, Butler and VCU? Umm... in a first-round upset sort of way, maybe Davidson or Belmont. Or Murray, of course.
If Arizona St can sweep the Oregon schools this weekend, will people start talking about them at 15-2?
Raul: Eh. Oregon is OK, Oregon State not so much. Pac 12 is muddied again this year so hard to come by real quality, head-turning wins. I think it's a two-team league myself. Or maybe even 1 1/2, like Arizona and UCLA-ish.
Baylor will end up being Big 12's 2nd best team right?
Rick: Women's hoops? Probably. Men's? No. Call me when it's not Kansas.
Im a Michigan fan with tickets to sundays game at ohio state, Do you think this will be a tuff game for the wolverines or can i expect my team to keep on steam rolling
Buddy: Nice! Enjoy! I think it's always tough to play at your rival but I'm not sure the Buckeyes have the horses to play with the Wolverines. Thomas hasn't gotten much offensive help this year at all. Craft-Burke will be very fun.
I SAID 2ND DANA..... 2ND!!!
Ricky: Whoops! Sorry! I still think that's undetermined. Kansas State looks like it's comfortable now with Weber.
Cleanthony Early went from being the 2-time NJCAA Div III POY to the 4-time (and counting) MVC Newcomer of the Week. When is the man going to get some pub?! He's a big reason the Shox haven't dropped a game since Hall went out.
Cory: Wichita as a team has been sort of shadowed by Creighton. Think they are a heckuva team, myself.
Dana, why do you have WVU as winning the Big 12? And why do you think Kansas is a perennial lock for 2nd best?
Ed: Because I was poisoned that day. Seriously, I was told to make a bold prediction. Instead I went insane.
why is maryland not receiving more attention they are 13-1 right now and not ranked why is that?
Scott: Need some quality wins, mostly. Good team. Turgeon has done a very good job, which isn't surprising. But need to win some head turners.
Who do you believe is the most underrated player in the big east?
Richie: Maybe Jerian Grant.
why is everyone picking Louisville over Syracuse? what is Syracuse lacking and what are their weaknesses?
They don't have a great, reliable shooter. Southerland is streaky. The zone is OK, but not impenetrable. Bigs need some work. Very good team, that all said, just Louisville right now is more a sure thing.
Is Alabama's chances for making the NCAA tournament over for the Tide? Is Coach Grant in trouble?
John: Boy I hope he's not in trouble. That's a very hard job. Takes time and patience from administration. As for the tourney, very uphill sledding. But I think that's the case for everybody n the SEC, save Kentucky, Florida and Missouri. NOt a great league.
do you think against FSU this week could be that win or would it have to be against a team like NC state or Duke?
Scott: The win would help; the loss would sting. Does that make sense?
Do you expect DePaul to remain in the BE basement?
Brian: I keep waiting for them to have 'the year' and it keeps not happening. At some point I'm like the girl who cried wolf.
How Far Will the Arizona wildcats go?
Rashawn: Hmmm... I like Arizona, but wow have they snuck by. They could hit stride, get some breaks and be a Final Four team - talent is ther e- or bounced in a second round.
Who do you have winning the MWC?
Pete: Eek, can I change that weekly? Such a great conference this year. I'm thinking San Diego State but honestly, there are maybe 5 teams that could win it.
I think Notre Dame is a legit Final Four contender with their guards and their experience. Do you agree?
Joey: Not quite. Seen enough ND crashes and burns in the postseason to be leery. Think they are so smart, play a terrific pace, know what works for them, but not sure there is enough to go that far. Who knows though? Wackier things hve happened.
majic 8ball, is there any chance trey burke returns to um for his junior year
Buddy: The Magic 8 ball says, you're joking, right?
I'm concern that JTIII will not change his apporach and let this team run more and press more, Because in the half court they are horrible right now. Spot or just being a Hoya fan
Eric: They are indeed hard to watch. I'm not sure John is a press and run kind of coach and I"m not sure this is a press and run kind of team entirely. IN spots, maybe. But they gotta generate offense somewhere.
why kentucky is having such a down year?
Rashawn: Well they've only lost four but they have all new players. As in entirely. That might be the key.
Favorite brand of scotch, if you drink it?
Who is going to be the last undefeated team?
Tom: Not refined enough for that.
JP: Arizona or Duke... quality of competition reason being. So hard for Michigan and Wyoming in those leagues. Pushed to pick, I might say Duke. Older team, less pitfalls.
How many of UM's freshmen make your top 10 first year player list?
Rich: I think I had Robinson and Stauskas on my list for Jason King's King of the Court.
Do you think Jack Cooley has a chance at Big East POY?
Joey: In the conversation, but I think it's Russ Smith or Peyton Siva right now. I lean Russdiculous.
Are the Illini good? Like "finish third in the Big Ten" good?
Paul: Potentially yes. Not sure if I'd go with them or Minnesota. Guess we'll know tonight, huh?
chances the Heels make the tourney? i say 4.7%
Kurt: NOt looking pretty, is it?
I'll be in the house tonight for St Joes/Butler? Buy you a lemonade?
Miggy: Sure. I'll be there along w/ my mentor/former colleague Dick Jerardi, which always makes for a fun night.
i do not think any of kentucky freshman is ready for nba after this season. What do you think?
I think at least three of them will begone: Goodwin, Poythress and Noel. The NBA doesn't care if you're ready; it's if you have upside.
Did you think Brent Musburger was out of line calling Miss Alabama, "a pretty woman?"
Jeff: Nope and I wish the story would go away. She is pretty. Most folks thought that. He said it. Let's move on, please.
Can Butler and VCU still count as giant-killers now that they're in a top conference?
Charles: Sure. Still not BCS-budget.
Is the so-called Catholic 7, as it stands right now, really all that? They have a traditional great program, Georgetown, two good good ones, Marquette and Nova, but the other four are terrible. Now if you add Butler, X, UD, SLU, Creighton, now that is a good league.
I said as much in my winners/losers column yesterday (post-chat reading assignment). Great name brands. Great tradition. Not much in the here and now as it stands.
Dana, met you at The Jimmy V Classic. You're truly one of the best. Question: Being a Missouri fan who would trade a limb for a Final Four trip, where would MU need to finish in the SEC regular season and conference tournament to get a top seed in the NCAAs. (1-2 seed)?
Bausch: Keep your limbs. Not worth it. They'd have to win regular season and tourney, I think. League isn't strong and gotta figure, two, three or four from Big Ten will have an argument; maybe two from the Big East at least; two from the ACC; if Arizona wins Pac 12... Mountain West...
You originally had Villanova as #6 in the Philly 6 rankings. Coming off 6 W's in a row, with a good opportunity tonight at USF. Arcidiacono has a good shot to be BE ROY. Has your opinion changed on Jay's squad?
Steve: Well they're ahead of Drexel and Penn. So maybe fourth, vying for third, depending on La Salle.
Can Belmont win an NCAA tournament game or two?
Brad: Think they could. Being in the OVC gives them a bump in competition to prepare better. Maybe
Who is Your Top 3 Pgs In College this Year?
I'm going to foul up how I voted for Jason King... Burke, Pressey (though he can make you nuts) and Siva. Michael Carter-Williams and Aaron Craft in there.
Wrong sport, but any comment on no one being elected to the baseball HOF today?
Charles: I don't get hall of fame voting. at all. like a secret society
Does Virgina have a shot to be a threat to the rest of the ACC? Or are they still too young?
Ben: I think they can pull off a few 'upsets', yes but a young team getting better.
Whos your frontrunner for POTY right now?
Jamie: Between Plumlee and Burke.
Favorite sports book (basketball or otherwise)?
Russ: Seabiscuit. Seriously. Was ticked when train got to station when I was reading about match race. Thought it was beautifully written.
Do you think that Doug McDermott is too short for the NBA?
I don't buy all that stuff. Can he play? Yes.
Which Jayhawk is the most valuable to the team? I know the easy answer is Withey, but I think there is some thought to all 5 starters.
Ethan: I know Withey is the go-to answer, but man, you're right. All 5 have a case. McLemore maybe in my book, honestly. Made a good team great.
Will Memphis make the tourney?
Mark: Yes just not sure how long they'll stay.
Do you think the tournament committee will likely put ?rivals? in the same bracket, or keep them in opposite ones? (ie, Kansas and Missouri) Can you imagine a KU/MU Elite 8 game in say, Indianapolis, and the winner goes to the Final Four?
John: Having attended the mock bracket, I know those matchups just sort of happen. Honest. They seed the teams 1 through 65 essentially and then that generates the bracket. The only time teams are moved is if they have a religious issue with certain days (a la BYU) or if conference teams are slated to face one another early. But yeah... it would be fun!
Terps are 13-1 and top ten in every major category in existence. Any reason why they are not ranked yet?
John: Quality of competition.
Do You think all of arizona freshman will return for 2nd season?
Hard to predict right now. I would hope so but then it depends on what they hear draft wise. ANd I always hope so! Selfish.
Who is a team that noone is talking about or that got off to a slow start that you think could go on a tear in the second half of the season?
Oscar: I think the obvious answer is UCLA. All that talent could add up to something huge. Does Kentucky county? People are talking about them but they started slowly.
Quality of competition.....UNC was receiving more votes than MD when they had 4 losses.......4 LOSSES!!!! hahahaha what a joke
Jen: Whoever voted for UNC should have their privileges revoked for life. Seriously.
Are my Gaels dancing this year?
Patty: I think so. Good team, too. Could sneak up on a few folks. Forgot Dellavedova in my PG answer earlier.
Thats the whole panel then.....any idea when they will rank the teams fairly and not have biased people voting for their favorite teams?
James; I think most reporters don't have favorite teams and vote fairly. I think some people have votes and don't pay attention and shouldn't have them.
With the all of our losses coming early on and without our PG how far do you feel UK will go? They are starting to hit stride at the half way point and I expect them to run the past the SEC right out of the gates.
Brandon: Let's put it this way..if they are say, a 7seed in the tourney, I wouldn't want to face them. Not sure they'll run roughshod over the league - road games are dicey for young teams - but much better now than a month ago.
Alright folks. I have to go get my act together. Game tonight - St. Joe's-Butler. Thanks for the questions. See you next week.
