Thanks for the patience.Busy day.Flew back from Minneapolis, taped First Take CBK 4:30 p.m. ESPNU/Sat. 9:30 a.m. ESPNU and then podcast.
You ever seen anything quite as freaky as the Gophers three losses all to teams rated #5 in the country?
The problem is the way the Gophers were playing in the first half of each game. That's an issue. It needs to be solved soon. They can't point fingers at each other.
do you think the kentucky wildcats have a shot at being in the sweet sixteen?
Do you they have a chance? Yes. Would I predict it now? Probably not. But the talent is certainly there to make a decent run. Not being healthy is a concern and now Willie Cauley-Steiin has knee issue (procedure Thursday).
Did you ever storm the court while in college? I think its a college bball trademark. What's your feelings?
No. I was a journalist in college from day one at Wisconsin. So I actually never went to a college game as a fan. But I'm OK with the storming as long as it is done safely. I love the enthusiasm.
Creighton at Wichita State. Doug McD averages 10.8 pts against the Shockers for his career. Do you take the over or under on his pt total?
I went with a Wichita State win at home, but I still think McDermott gets his point production.
Who wins the Big Ten?
Michigan. The backcourt is the best in the league and the bigs are only getting better.
Will Miami be ranked before they meet Duke on Wednesday? Also how far can they go in the NCAA Tourney with Reggie back?
The 'Canes may crack in for next week's poll. The 'Canes are playing with more fluidity offensively without Reggie. But he will come back. So, it will be an interesting dilemma for Larranaga. Kenny Kadji gives them more flexibility.
Well there is always an assumption that there will be early-entry defections. I'm sure you'll see a handful off this roster whether they are ready or not. The draft spots will be available.
Boise State took New Mexico to overtime on Wednesday. Was that showing an example of how good Boise State is or was New Mexico having an off night? And, where do you see Boise State finishing in regards to conference and NCAA tournament?
This Boise State team is no fluke. The resume is NCAA worthy if the Broncos can knock off a few of the perceived top teams in the league.
Miami: a contender or pretender for the ACC title?
Look at this: Multiple Miami questions in the chat. Yes, the 'Canes have to be considered as a possible ACC champ, especially if they take down Duke.
Hi Andy, Do you see any of the smaller conferences that normally get one automatic bid, might get a second school into the NCAA Tournament this year?
Still too early.
Do you see KU going undefeated again in the Big XII ? Any chance of McLemore staying another year?
Kansas will win the Big 12. Book it. But the Jayhawks won't go undefeated. The true round-robin schedule makes it almost impossible to get through that gauntlet.
Andy are you going to come check out the new Crisler?
Not sure yet. I've seen Michigan twice -- both away from Ann Arbor in New York and in Minneapolis.
Who's back next year? Burke, Hardaway, Robinson III, Stauskas, and Mcgary?
Hmm, I'll be surprised if Burke returns. I'm not sure on Hardaway. I think the rest stay.
Whats your gut feeling: is st Mary's a tournament team?
Bigger game for the zags or bulldogs and can the zags get a #1 seed?
Yes. It is possible. The amount of road/neutral wins for Gonzaga could keep the Zags in the discussion for a No. 1 out West.
So you are OK with fans of a team that has won a National Championship this century storming the court after beating #14 NC State?
Look, the students are into it. There are no official court-storming rules except in the SEC where it will draw a hefty fine.
A10 strong and pretty deep his year. Will it help maybe keep butler Xavier and Dayton from fleeing to join catholic 7?
The strength of the league is not the issue. It's all about money and security. If those schools think they will have it by joining those seven then they will bolt.
Which is more likely for North Carolina - NCAA or NIT?
NIT at this juncture. But it is still fluid.
Do my sun devils have a chance this weekend?
Yes. I picked Arizona. But ASU has a chance. Listen to our podcast. We had Herb Sendek on to talk about the game.
What's going on with Notre Dame lately? Can they recover?
Of course. It's still early in the Big East but there is concern for losing at home and on the road recently.
If the cats do not beat mizzou or Florida safe to say if they make the tourney it is because of the name on the front of the jersey and not the body of work?
Kentucky will be judged on the merits of the resume, regardless of the name on the jersey.
Is Marquette a contender or pretender at the top of the big east?
I would say pretender. I don't see anyone other than Louisville or Syracuse winning the league.
This the last year of the Big East BBall in its current form? How far will they drop in bball once the dissection of its members is over?
Still to be determined. I want to wait on see who the defected seven add to their group. If it is Butler, Xavier, etc., then that group will replace the A-10 and be with the Mountain West in contention for a top six conference ranking.
Would Kelly Olynyk be the best player in the country if he could stay out of foul trouble and log more minutes?
He is the most improved player in the country. He is an all-American. But he's not the best player or at least won't win player of the year.
What do you think we need to do in order to win the game tomorrow? Thinking Andrew Smith has to stay out of foul trouble and get some big shots from Chase Stigall, as he's been on the biggest of stages twice. Rose Jones looks to be the key, though. Thoughts?
Make it really physical. Ugly the game up.
Is Illinois a contender or pretender? They looked awful at home against Northwestern.
I would say pretender at this point. The Illini can't worry about the NCAAs now. They just have to win games and stop this slide.
If ole miss wins tomorrow well they be ranked next week?
Yes. Or at least the Rebels should be ranked if that occurs.
Talk about the Lobos for a second. Do you think they can make some serious noise come March? And what's the ceiling for seed for the MWC winner?
Yes. The Lobos have one of the more underappreciated backcourts. Alex Kirk has emerged as a more than capable post. There is no reason why the Lobos can't be a second-weekend team in the tournament.
