Good morning gang. We've got 60 minutes of fantasy chattage up ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand... who is up first?
I need to decide between Flacco or Ryan this week. Leaning toward hot Flacco and expect it to be easier to pass against the pats then Ryan against the 49ers. Thoughts
I think I would agree with you. Especially, given the Patriots style of play lends itself to more snaps for both teams. More snaps equals more opportunity for a QB.
Getting ready for next football season. Ten team standard league. How do you feel about transaction limits? My leaguemates like unlimited. I try to push for a limit. I like 25 or 30 for the season.
I personally like limiting pickups to 2-3 per week max. Otherwise you get into the whole "streaming" of players loophole, or owners racing to the computer to get all the top free agents first.
AJ, who is my 5th keeper: A. Jackson, Mauer, or Halladay?
Catcher being what it is, I think I would keep Mauer.
When will the next rounds of the dynasty draft be published?
Every Monday we'll have the next ten rounds. So, 1-10 is up now and 11-20 will "hit the stands" next Monday.
Wilin Rosario or Carlos Santana for this season? Keeper?
I like Rosario a lot, and took him in the ESPN Dynasty Draft. That said, Santana is the pick this year, even in a keeper.
BASEBALL! Sandoval, Freeman, Bumgarner - who would you pick for a final NL-only keeper spot for 2013 only? Thanks AJ!
I love Freeman, so I'd probably lean his way. However, if I thought I'd still be able to pick him back up in re-draft, then Bumgarner is my choice. It all depends on how you think the rest of the league values these players as to whether you want to roll the dice and try to "keep" more than one.
Baseball question:Who do you like best at 1B for this season: Freddie Freeman, Adrian Gonzalez, or Billy Butler?
Close, but for one season alone? Gonzalez.
Seems like every year Adam Jones keeps improving more. He's 28 now(prime) what do you think 2013 holds for him?
Somewhere in the back half of the top 20 OF should be where our old friend Dig Dug ends up.
in a 7 player keeper league, does keeping 4 SPs sound like too much? thinking about keeping Halladay, Cliff Lee, Dickey and Scherzer. stick with offense or keep these 4 no matter what> thanks AJ
Obviously, a lot depends on your other options. Generally speaking, I like hitters over SP in terms of keepers because they're far more predictable on average - especially with wins being 25 percent of SP value. So, not "no matter what" for sure.
better keeper at Catcher: Miguel Montero or Salvador Perez?
A lot of people are really high on Perez, and I can't say I totally disagree... but right now in terms of 2013 value, I lean more to Montero.
Another catcher question: See Napoli being a factor there?
Top-five talent if he can stay healthy for full season, sure. Not sure I want the headache though. That Boston signing took a lot longer than it should have.
Any thoughts on Utley this year?
Contract year and he's got a lot to prove. That could cut both ways, though, as he might play through injuries that in other circumstances he'd take time off. All in all, though, I think he could make top 10 at 2B.
2B Rank 'em for 2013: Altuve, Kipnis, Phillips, and Prado
Phillips, Kipnis, Altuve, Prado
In a 12-team mixed keeper league that uses OBP and TB instead of AVG and HR, my keepers are Trout-Hanley-Pedroia-J Upton-Heyward. Am I going to repeat as winner? Am I the smartest man alive?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you are not in fact the smartest man alive, as you haven't been able to grasp the "humble" part of a "humble brag."
Keeper league, what side do you like better- Kemp, Goldschmidt & Felix, or Heyward, Longoria
Consider me all-in on the Kemp side of this deal. I've never been a huge Heyward fan and I'm probably more down on Longoria than most.
Nice rebound for Lester this year?
I'd expect him to be a No. 4 SP or so. Certainly not high on the radar right now.
speaking of you not being a Longoria fan, do you approve of me taking advantage of my league's keeper rules, trading away Tulowitzski (1st round keeper) for Longoria (20th round keeper bc he had a bad year)? or is Tulo just plain worth it?
I think Tulo is better and certainly worthy of a No. 1 pick. Yes, Longoria is a bargain there, but unless that "discount" carries over into future seasons, I'll disregard.
Standard 10 team 5x5 roto can keep up to 5 with no limits. Currently keeping miggy, braun, and kershaw. Deciding between hanley, kinsler, cliff lee, and greinke. Should I keep the 2 hitters and roll with one ace?
I'm always going to go with two players who are arguably top three at their respective positions - and weak ones at that - over SP.
Where do you think Moustakas finishes this year? Rather have him or Machado at 3b?
Not doing cartwheels over either for 2013, but I do like Moustakas more for both this season, and frankly, in the long run as well.
At what point are you going to start to worry about all the pitches and innings verlander has thrown the past few seasons? Any concerns going into this year?
To me, this is just Verlander's workload. Sure, his arm could fall off at any moment, but that's true of any SP really.
I hope this isn't all a lie and I've just been getting fantasy advice from a fake expert all these years.
Oh, Nev. Have some more catfish.
If position doesn't matter, rather keep Ryan Zimmerman or Ian Desmond?
Zimmerman if position doesn't enter into it. Ian if it does.
Who do you think will win the NFL Games this weekend?
I go Pats and 49ers, and Shaker High, if they're playing.
Who is more likely to have an impact in 2013? Machado or Profar? or neither?
I'd go with Machado to have bigger impact for this season, but I'd temper expectations on both. We're unlikely to have another Trout on our hands anytime soon.
12 Team mixed Keeper Auction league -$300 budget-- Keep Wright at $30 or Frazier at $13
I'd keep Wright. Say hello to Brigitte for me.
Quien es muy macho?
Normally I would say Montalban. But with the return of "Joe Schmo" I'm going to go with Lamas!
Archer seems to be flying under the radar a bit. If he holds his walks down, are we looking at a great bargain?
If. It's all "if". Without a guarantee as to how the TB rotation will break down, it's too early to make that call. Certainly an arm to keep an eye on...
Should fantasy owners be excited about Chip Kelly taking the helm in Philadelphia?
Cart before horse. Certainly, if I owned Shady, I'd be smiling a bit more, but it all comes down to who ends up at QB. Hard to imagine it's somebody currently on the roster.
Harvey or Samardjiza?
For 2013, I go Samardzija.
AJ, I'm in an NL only league and i'm trying to find a young starter that can be had late in the draft that could have a big impact. Living in AZ, I appear to be higher on Tyler Skaggs than most. He can be had for $1 in my league. Do you think he can be productive? this is a keeper league where I can keep him indefinitely at double the price next year. Is he worth a $1 flyer for this season?
Like Harvey, Archer and Bauer, Shelby Miller, etc. risk/reward for $1 is huge. One of them is likely to hit, if not more, so at that price, there's no reason to shy away from any of them.
Is rollins worth $24 in a 12 man mixed 260? Not sure I want to lock it in.
I think he's worth it, but the question you need to answer before locking it in is what SS will be left for you after keepers are submitted. If it's Scutaro-type players, then yuck. If it's Castro, and you can get him... that's a different call.
Rather have 5 stud players (Votto, Mccutchen, Beltre, Wright, Cargo) and have little money to spend else where or keep cheaper players and have a balanced team?
Although having less money is going to keep you from being in the running for a lot of an auction, if you have faith in your ability to find value later on in the proceedings, there's no reason to throw players back just because of the price tag.
NL only pitcher question. Arroyo, Detwiler, Turner (mia)
Detwiler for this season.
Keep Adam Laroche or Brett Anderson both $4?
I'd go with Anderson in this one.
Who is your top closer right now?
I'd say Kimbrel. It's the most volatile position, and he's the only guy I really think is "safe" to be in the job for the next few seasons.
That's all the time I have for today, gang. We'll be back next week - same bat time, same bat channel. I'm real and on Twitter (@ajmass) if I didn't get to your question. Until the next time, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
