What NFL Quarterback would you compare yourself to?
I'd say Drew Brees. I love his style of play and the way he runs the game. I'd like to model myself after him.
Matt, as a college football fan, I do want to thank you for coming back for your senior year. What are you going to miss most about your college experience?
Definitely going to miss the band playing at our games on Saturdays. As much as you can't wait to get to the NFL, there are aspects of the games you'll miss--the USC Trojan marching band is definitely one of those.
What part of the draft process are you looking forward to the most?
Learning and meeting so many interesting people in the NFL. Learning so much more about NFL defenses and schemes, different offensive terminology -- there's a lot to learn and I'm soaking it all in.
Was the Anthony Barr hit the hardest of your career? If not, which one?
It's definitely up there. The hit itself was great, but when he drilled me into the ground, that's what really hurt. I remember one in Oregon State where I got hit in the chin -- those really shake you up.
Matt, even though this year was a struggle what was your favorite moment from the past season?
Our game versus Colorado this year -- it was a pretty easy victory for us, but breaking records along with Robert Woods was really special for me.
How many times in your life do you think you've said Hut?
That's a massive equation. 65 times a game, times, 12 games a year over the last eight years, plus high school -- if you have a calculator on hand, you can do the math. It has to be thousands.
Rookie QBS from RG3 to Luck and Wilson are lighting it up this year?think you will have the same success at the next level?
I've got a long ways to go to get to that point, but without a doubt I think I can hold my own and compete at the highest level.
What do you think about Chip Kelly leaving Oregon?
It's an interesting move, but without a doubt I think he will have success at the next level.
How much longer before you're 100% healthy?
Nearly there! I've been throwing for a couple of weeks now and my shoulder is feeling great.
Cool program you are doing with Pizza Hut. Has Pizza Hut always been your favorite pizza?
Yeah! I have a funny anecdote about it actually. When I was just starting to play, I was on the larger side of the kids. One coach tried to put me on the offensive line, but they ended up meeting afterwards for Pizza Hut and beer, and the QB coach at the time defended me and said I'd play QB. So essentially my fate was decided over Pizza Hut.
What's the one weakness that you will be working on the most leading up to the combine?
There's always things you can work on -- knowledge of the game and footwork can always improve.
what was your most memorable moment of your USC career
I'd say even dating back to my freshman year, beating Ohio State at the horseshoe. My first road game, my second game of my career--coming in and beating them was unbelievable.
If you could be any animal, what you be?
A bald eagle with a mullet.
If you're working with Pizza Hut now, does that mean you get free pizza for life?
Let's hope so!
What NFL team did you grow up rooting for?
I grew up going to the East Coast every Christmas because of my grandparents, so I watched Patriot playoff games with Tom Brady as a kid.
Matt, what was the most difficult thing about changing from Pete Carroll's system to Lane Kiffin's when he first came in?
The terminology was slightly different, but mostly just getting used to different playcalling under different coordinators.
Who was your favorite SC and NFL QB growing up?
I grew up loving all the USC QBs in the NFL, so Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. Then when I was in high school, I was more focused on what I was doing with my team, but mainly those two early on.
Hey Matt...did they have to lower the rims on the basketball court when you did Matt vs. and were dunking?? haha
They actually raised them -- I was jumping too high!
I'm trying to walk on as a college football player and I've always considered you a role model and I have tryouts in a few weeks, any kind of advise you can give me?
Always outwork your competition and strive to be the best.
what athlete at USC would you say was the best player you ever played with?
It's a tossup between Robert Woods and Marquise Lee. I think they'll both go on to do great things.
