Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Let's get rolling.

Luke Murphy from west branch ia [via mobile]

How did the chiefs send 6 players to the pro bowl yet manage only 2 wins?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Bad coaching, bad quarterback play.

kevin (tampa, fl)

hey bro, are the chiefs the front runner to land alex smith?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

I'm not sure of them being a frontrunner. Lots of people think he could be Arizona-bound. But I think the Chiefs will be in the mix for sure.

Joe Flacco (Dreamland )

Do i deserve a bigger contract than Peyton? One of us in the Super Bowl and the other is not, so I deserve more right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Well, you are still playing and youa re 28, so I understand what you want. But I wouldn't say you are better than Manning. But you deserve to get paid, no question.

Nick (York Ne)

What is more of a possibility? The Chiefs picking up Alex Smith from the Niners or the signing of Matt Flynn from Seattle?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Both are real possibilities.

Casey (Oakhurst CA)

Hey Bill. We love the blog up here in Oakhurst. The Chargers need a big dependable back like they had in Mike Tolbert. What names may become available that would interest the new front office? I read that Chis Ivery from NEw Orleans could be a cap casualty. Could you see them targeting him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Yeah, I can see a guy like Ivery being a fit there. They will be looking for those types of guys.Remember, McCoy comes from Carolina before Dnever so if a Williams or a Stewart became available, they could be possibilities as well.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Do you see the Raiders bringing in a player like Ronnie Brown or Cadalac Williams plus keep Mike Goodson and RunDMC

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

I think they will bring in a running back, likley a bigger one to help McFadden.

Carol (San Diego)

I am tired of hearing how Philip Rivers "needs fixing". What about the run game and O-line being fixed? I think those are things to focus on first, then defenses will not be able to just play against the pass. Any mid round running backs or FAs that could fit?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I agree. Rivers needs help, not fixing. The offense aorund him has to get better, a lot better.

Merle (Colorado)

So in your opinion, how many more wins do you see the Chargers having with their new and improved coaching staff?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Really depends on if the offense improves. They have a QB and a good defense. They are good peices in San Diego.

Rich (Norfolk)

Most of the Chiefs following want Geno Smith in the draft. Would he be a good fit in Any Reid's system?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Do they want Geno Smith or do they just want a QB?I think some fans are so hungry for a young guy, they want the best guy available whether he is worthy or not.If Smith proves himself to be a top prospect in the next two months, i'm all for the Chiefs taking him. if he doesn't, I don't think he should be taken just because of need.

Confused (Swimming in KC trolls)

Last season the chiefs only won 2 games and were not really competitive at all. So why do KC fans think they are just a QB away? There are more issues than the QB or they would have won few more games. Agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

That team gets a good quarterback and they will be fine.Look at the Colts last year. The Chiefs' roster around the QB is better than the Colts' roster.

Corey (D.C.)

Bill, so far no one has taken this question today and I am hoping you do. Why does the NFL ban supplements that anyone can go buy at their local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe? I ask because everyone focuses on the "violation", but I can go buy IGF-1 in 5 minutes if I wanted to. Seems odd.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I think there can is a difference beetween "banned" and illegal.I thibnk that is the case with the NFL.

Tarek (NYC)

49ers 52 ravens 20. We haven't seen a Superbowl blowout since January 03, i think we are due for a stinker.

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Interesting ... I actually think it will be close. Any other thoghhts out there?

Al (Wausau, WI)

Bill, given the level of talent in the 2013 NFL Draft, might it make sense for the Chiefs to take their best available player at #1 in the first round (e.g. Star L. from Utah), then take the best available QB at #33 in the second round (which could be quite a good rookie QB)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

That's what I'm thinking.

VAChief (Norfolk)

Any chance KC lands Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings to accompany D-Bowe?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

As a replacement maybe, not as a partner. They won't pay for two big-money receivers.

JJ (Indy)

What are the chances of either Branden Albert or Ryan Clady defecting to San Diego? Do they both get resigned by their current teams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

ALbert is a bigger possibility. Denver won't let Clady go. I also think the Chiefs badly wnat to keep Albert.

Trevor, Queensbury NY [via mobile]

Will Denver go after Welker if he becomes a free agent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think Denver will definitely keep on eye on Welker. I can see the pairing, yes.

Jeff (NJ)

How aboout the chiefs take a gamble and sen the #1 pick to the jets for Revis?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Maybe in a package for the top pick with the Chefes getting the Jets' top pick.

Jason (KC)

Chiefs land Alex Smith, DT Star L. in first round, QB in round 2, and sign all FA's except Dorsey. Are they a playoff team next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

It would depedn on how quickly Smith took to the system.

Mike (NJ)

Any chance Lechler goes to the Chargers, Chiefs, or Broncos?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

The AFC West is the best punting division in football. Those teams are set. Dustin Colquitt is a free agent in KC, so the only way Lechler would stay in the division if he leaves Oakland is if Colquitt leaves.

Mike (NJ)

Can you give a rough project of the afc west cap situations?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I had a post a few weeks ago.Denver is the best with 18 million, KC is next, then SD and then Oakland. The Raiders are about 4.5 million under the cap.

Hugh (Denver)

BW,Why all the panic in Chargerland---Weddle, Ingram, Reyes, Liuget on D...Rivers and what looks to be a solid WR core next year in Brown, Floyd, Alexander and Spurlock. Get me an OL, a safety and a 2nd RB and I will see you in the playoffs.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

And maybe some more help at receiver.

B-Rad303 (Denver)

Everyone in Denver from radio, news, the so called experts say there is no way Rahim Moore can stay on this team. More so the teammates will have a hard time welcoming him back to the locker room let alone the first time he misses a play the fans will go crazy on him. What are your thoughts? He has talent just a maybe to much into himself, can we flip him for value?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

See Kyle Williams in San Francisco.

Nick (Boston)

There are some big name free agents at positions the Broncos should be looking to upgrade. Could you see Denver trying to sign the likes of Steven Jackson, Greg Jennings, Osi Umenyiora, and one of the available linebackers, maybe Rey Maualuga or Danelle Ellerbe?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

I like Ellerbe a lot.

Steve from westside of north [via mobile]

Is mike bresial done in Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

Well, he is a ZBS guy and the Raiders are going away from it, so I think his time in Oakland is short. But the problem is, the Raiders have a lot of needs, so Brisiel hmay have to stick around for the enxt year.

Mike (NJ)

I (like many Raider Fans) would love to see the Raiders stockpile picks. I know it's easier said than done;however, are there any teams you see that would be willing to trade up?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Because there aren't a lot of great QB options and because there are a lot of defensive players who are similiar at the top of the draft, I'm not sure there will be a lot of teams dying to trade up.

Mike (NJ)

Any idea of the compensatory picks that will be awarded?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

At the NFL owners meetings in late March.

Chase (San Diego)

With the new regime in SD, you think there's any chance they re-sign Jammer and move him to safety since Bigbi wasn't all that impressive and Taylor is coming off a torn ACL?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think Jammer may be heading to safety, regardless of what team he plays for.

Mike (NJ)

Who wins the division next year as of January 31st?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

As of right now? Has any team made up for the gap with Denver? They were 13-3, SD was 7-9, Oak was 4-12 and KC was 2-14. As of now, what has changed?

Jake (San Diego)

What do the Chargers do with the secondary? The only player they have under contract is Weddle.

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

They have work to do there and on the offensive line. But keys to that team.

Steve from westside of north [via mobile]

If star is sitting at 3 and your Oakland do you take him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

He'd be hard to pass up, don't you think?

Chad (MileHigh)

I love Champ, but is it time to make the transition to safety for him? Chris Harris is beginning to become a player and Tony Carter is making a name for himself as well. It is sad to say but watching him a step or two behind these younger WR's is not encouraging for the secondary..

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

The Broncos don't feel like it's time yet. Maybe next year, but ti very luikely won't happen this year. Chanmp will stay a starting corner.

Nick (York Ne)

What do you think Reid's first priority will be after getting a starting QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Signing his top free agents.

Steve from the westside of north [via mobile]

Have u ever witnessed a fight in Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I've witnessed fights in many NFL stadiums I've been in.

Tarek (NYC)

I agree with you Bill, the Raiders shouldn't take Geno Smith with the 3rd pick. Maybe they can draft a QB in the later rounds but this team has way to many needs other than QB.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Or just wait another tear or two. Got to see more of Pryor.

Yogi (Alaska)

I dont quite understand the logic behind draft pick values for incoming rookies, and draft pick values for current players. An example would be Ryan Mallett. If he was thrown into this draft, with all the QB-needy teams out there, I dont see how he slides past the mid-2nd round. But when fans ask if a team like the Browns would trade a 2nd for him, the answer is always "oh god no, thats too high of a pick". It seems like a contradiction.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I don't disagree at all. NFL Players are like new cars. Their value drops when they are driven off the lot.

JJ (Indy)

Tyson Jackson has finally developed into a solid, if unspectacular plaer, but no way the Chiefs let him play the final year on his current deal, right ($14M+)? Surely they will either cut or extend him to a much more reasonable contract?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

I bet they try to restructure down and keep him.

Tim (Pasadena)

BW - Why would the Chiefs waste another draft pick on a QB? They just took Stanzi last year. Wouldn't they be better off looking to address their problems through free agency or trade?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Stanzi?He is not the answer.

Wiam (Denver) [via mobile]

Eddy Lacey(RB), Sharrif Floyd (DT) or a MLB at 28 for the Broncos?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Like them all. Don't forget a CB, either.

B-Rad303 (Denver)

I see Kyle Williams, dont you think a fumble is different than a 70 yrd hail marry when your saftey is trying to be a star and go for the pick??

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

A goat is a goat, brother. He can come abck from it.

Ryan (Lake Tahoe)

Any updates on Ray Anderson and Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

They are talking to other folks as well. Again, this is a business hire. The new person will not make the Raiders a better team per se. The job will be help get a stadium.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

scooty mc never answer my question (downtown)

Do you think HIllis will be back

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

I think it is a possibility. it depends on if Reid values Hillis.

JJ (Indy)

Everyone seems to act like losing McCoy is going to have zero impact on the Broncos next year? Do you really think a 34 year old coordinator is just going to pick up right where McCoy left off? Is the Peyton Manning effect such that I could be their offensive coordinator and they'd be fine?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

They have Manning. They will be fine.

58_VonDoom_92 (Wyoming)

Is Bubba Caldwell ever going to see the field? If he cant beat out a 5-10 37 year old guy, why do we have him on our roster?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

He is a bottom-of-the roster guy. He is the type fo guy you look to replace.

JJ (Indy)

Brad Childress was rumored to be joining the KC staff in some capacity, is that still in the works?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Good question. I've been asking. Not getting a lot og answers. It's late in the game, so perhaps it won't happen.

Tarek (NYC)

What do you think Oakland can get for Tommy Kelly? He's a good player but they need picks and even a 4th or 5th rounder will help.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I'd think he'd probably be more of a candidate to be cut.

58_VonDoom_92 (Wyoming)

Most likely to be in Denver next year. Freeney, Revis or Urlacher?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

All may be unlikley, but all could be looked at. If I had to say one, I'd say Revis. Go big or go home.

Sam (New York)

What do you think will become of Harris and Carter if the Broncos get Revis

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

It's a passing league. There is room for them.

Ryan (Lake Tahoe)

With Tony Sparano being paired with DMAC, will we see any wildcat in Oakland this year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

The Wildcat is kind of yesterday's news. But Sparano has a history with it and McFadden used it in college, If it can help the Raiders, why not? I can see it being part of the package, at least. But I'd think it would be more of a complement to the game plan rather than being the primary run attack.

Brian (Mexico)

Hi Bill Do you think Raiders gonna cut Palmer? or they just going to fix his contract?

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

I'd lean toward restructuring it down.

Bill Williamson
  (3:03 PM)

Great hour, take care and enjoy the Super Bowl.Chat will be Wednesday next week. I will send out a reminder next week.
