Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Let's get rolling.

Spencer (Denver)

Is Denver's biggest need MLB? I know weapons for peyton would be nice but Brooking is 37!

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Yeah, every layer of the D needs a little more kep. I'd say MLB may be the greatest need.

Mike (Temecula ca)

Hi Bill; Do you think the Chargers woukd consider taking Chance Warmack at 11 if Eric Fischer is off the board..Guard is also a need and he dominates that position in the draft this year

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

For sure. He will be on the list. Warmack is a pretty good value there.

Andy (DC)

How far do you think Matt Barkley will fall? Im not completely sold on him, but I have to think he would be a steal if the Chiefs could grab him with their third round pick.

Bill Williamson
  (3:05 PM)

Barkely will be interesting to watch. I think his range will be huge: Like from 7-35. Don't see him falling to the third round.

Jason (KC)

What chance would Chiefs have at landing Alex Smith for a 4 this year and a 3 next year? He is head and shoulders above anyone else available isn't he?

Bill Williamson
  (3:07 PM)

I am interested to see what the compensation range will be. Don't think it will be all that high. Maybe a condiitonal deal, but I don't see San Francisco getting a ton for him.

Cameron (San Diego)

Who has the best chance to upset Denver next year as afc west champs?

Bill Williamson
  (3:08 PM)

Have to see what happens in the offseason. Right now, the gap is big.

jeff/kansas city [via mobile]

What's the odds Alex smith comes to Kc?

Bill Williamson
  (3:08 PM)

51 percent.

It amazes how conenciton issues ALWAYS happen during a chat.

Nick (Florida)

Who is the chiefs biggest competition in landing smith? My guess is Jax. Yours?

Bill Williamson
  (3:11 PM)

Cleveland, Arizona.

Eric Bay Area [via mobile]

Hey bill, your the man! Gut feeling which raiders end up getting cut this offseason because of cap concerns?

Bill Williamson
  (3:13 PM)

Thanks, dude ... It starts with Kelly and then perhaps DHB and Palmer dependings on their willingness to take a pay cut. Maybe Brisiel, too. Definitely McClain but not because of cap reasons. They just need to gas him.

Aaron (TX)

Many analysts seem to think that Glennon may have the most potential of any QB in this draft, would acquiring Alex Smith and drafting Glennon be a good move, or too unpopular with Geno seeming to be the trend?

Bill Williamson
  (3:14 PM)

It could happen. Maybe not Glennon, but adding a vet like Smith and drafting a QB at 34 may be the way to go.

Nick (Florida)

Do you think the Chargers will gain a Mid round Comp pick due to losing VJ? His numbers were far better than Danarios, i was thinking a possible 5th rounder?

Bill Williamson
  (3:15 PM)

I think the Chargers get a third-round comp pick.

Andy (DC)

Sounds like theyre already crowning the Broncos next years Super Bowl champs...in large part because of how easy the division is. I think Oakland is moving in the right direction, and SD and KC have talented rosters that their new staff might be able to build on. Im not even sure Denver wins the division next year...your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (3:17 PM)

It could happen. Maybe not Glennon, but adding a vet like Smith and drafting a QB at 34 may be the way to go.

Bill Williamson
  (3:18 PM)

You know what Denny Green says about crowning teams.

JJ (Indy)

Behind Bowe (who I believe HAS to be resigned or franchised), the Chiefs have Baldwin, Wylie, McCluster, and some special teamers at WR. Reid got some production out of guys like Freddie Mitchell, Todd Pinkston, Hank Baskett, etc. in the past, do you think he can put together a decent passing attack with those guys, assuming he finds someone to throw them the ball?

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

Reid very will be an area the Chiefs will look to upgrade. Godd FA class.

Monte (Oregon)

Any chance the Broncos look at Ed Reed?

Bill Williamson
  (3:20 PM)

I could see that. If he doesn't stay with the Ravens, I think he will get interest form a contender.

nick (NYC)

Will the chargers re-sign Danario Alexander?

Bill Williamson
  (3:21 PM)

You know what Denny Green says about crowning teams.

Bill Williamson
  (3:22 PM)

You know what Denny Green says about crowning teams.

Bill Williamson
  (3:22 PM)

He is a RFA. I expect him back.

Mike (NJ)

With Jacoby Ford's contract going up to 1.3 mil, does that make him more expandable?

Bill Williamson
  (3:23 PM)

If he is healthy he is worth it. Depends his health.

Steve (Alabama)

In your opinion, will Dwayne Bowe be a Chief next year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:26 PM)

You know what Denny Green says about crowning teams.

Bill Williamson
  (3:27 PM)

If I had to guess, I'd say yes. Andy Reid is a pass-first coach and Bowe is by far his best receiver. giving Bowe what he wants to send a strong, positive message to Reid's new locker room.

Hugh (Denver)

Does Louis Vasquez get to free agency?

Bill Williamson
  (3:28 PM)

He's the Chargers' best O-lineman and they badly need O-linemen. Don't they have to keep him?

Larry (Denver)

Do you agree that the Broncos are a top pick to make it to the Super Bowl? If not, what do you the need to do to get there? Thanks Bill

Bill Williamson
  (3:29 PM)

I think they are among the top early contenders. They went 13-3, don't they have to be> The keys are keeping Manning healthy and contuing to get better on defense.

Mike (NJ)

Could the raiders sign former Green Bay packer Greg Jennings?(i.e. Reggie McKenzie ties)

Bill Williamson
  (3:31 PM)

Jennings has ties in Miami and KC, among other places. The Raiders have a lot of needs. I don't see the vlaue of getting a big-dollar receiver this season.

Harry (Miami, FL)

Did Dontari Poe live up to being a first round pick?

Bill Williamson
  (3:32 PM)

You know what Denny Green says about crowning teams.

Bill Williamson
  (3:34 PM)

I think the Chiefs' coaching staff liked what they saw. Now, he must continue to get better and impress his new staff. The numbers weren't great, but he showed some value.

Mitch (Kansas)

Do you see TE Jermichael Finley as a match with any team in the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (3:36 PM)

All four in the right circumstance. If Boss can't come back, maybe John Dorsey tries to bring in Finley.

Mike (NJ)

I continue to think all-pro long snapper Jon Condo might be a cap casualty(1 mil), your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (3:39 PM)

Every team should be able to handle the snapper's contract. Didn't he prove his vlaue in Week 1?

Nathan M (TX)

Is the only reason Glennons stock not higher, because of the bowl game he thre 3 INTs in?

Bill Williamson
  (3:41 PM)

And he wasn't that good at the Senior Bowl.

Nick (Florida)

With some key cuts the chargers could very well end up being in the 16m cap range, any decent( not huge signings)FA names pop up for you that the chargers could sign?

Bill Williamson
  (3:41 PM)

Start woith the best names on the O-line.

Andrew (Phoenix)

Is the Super Bowl being outdoors the worst thing for the Broncos IF they get there? More games in cold weather usually doesn't bold to greatly for Peyton Manning.

Bill Williamson
  (3:42 PM)

It's kind of like worrying about taxes of winning the lottery before you win it. Deal with a good problem to have when you get it.

Bob (Maryland )

Like the work man! Do the Chargers make a run for a WR in FA like Bowe or Wallace?

Bill Williamson
  (3:43 PM)

Thanks, sir. I not sure they will have the money for a top receiver and with other needs, perhaps a second-level receiver will be the target.

JJ (Indy)

Do you think Richard Seymour could still go back to being a top DE in the 3-4? He isn't that old, really, and was better in the 3-4 than he was in the 4-3.

Bill Williamson
  (3:44 PM)

He's slowing down. Best used as a situational guy on a team with a good defense.

Brian (Fremont)

Would you say the Raiders biggest problem on each side of the ball was coaching for offense and talent for defense? Do you think the recent coaching changes could drastically improve the offense?

Bill Williamson
  (3:47 PM)

Biggest issue right now is a lack at talent at too many positions.

Jim (California)

Can we bring Richard Seymour & Phillip Wheeler back?

robert (palmdale)

why would the raiders wanna draft geno smith? we need defensive help big time and there will always be QBs coming up

Bill Williamson
  (3:50 PM)

I think Wheeler has a much better chance of returning. On Smith: My thoughts exactly.

Chad (MileHigh)

Im anxious to see what the draft board looks like for Elway, Fox and the rest of the staff. Do they go after a Corner with the first selection or do they beef up the interior DL with a DT? I like a big guy in the middle to push the line to allow Miller and Dumesnil speed rush from the outside. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (3:51 PM)

I think they go for the best available defnesive guy at No. 28.

Robert (Los Angeles)

If Oakland cuts DHB do they look to replace him in free agency/draft or do they hope Moore/Ford/Streater/Criner will make progress next

Bill Williamson
  (3:53 PM)

I think developing the youth at the position will be the focal point, yes.

Mike (temecula ca)

Bill; Do you think the new chargers staff bring back Takeo Spikes for another season or do they move to getting younger there..Love his passion for the game but they need to add quickness there

Bill Williamson
  (3:54 PM)

Yeah, if there is room for a leader like Spikes, it is worth keeping him.

Mike (San Diego)

Will Rivers be better with McCoy as hc?

Bill Williamson
  (3:55 PM)

As long as he is better protected and has better weapons.

Eric (Bay Area) [via mobile]

What's best case scenario for the raiders in the draft?

Bill Williamson
  (3:57 PM)

I think they are in a perfect spot at No. 3. They will get a great defensive player.

Scott (San Diego)

Please tell me Matthews won't get hurt this season

Bill Williamson
  (3:57 PM)

Ok, but I don't believe it, either.

Pete (Fort Worth)

OK lets just get to the facts. Broncos and Patriots will play for the AFC Championship next year. The winner TBD if the game is in New England-Patriots win, if they game is in Denver-Broncos win. Nuff Said.

Bill Williamson
  (3:58 PM)

OK, now we don't have to watch the regular season. Thanks for freeing up our Fall. Appreciate it.

Darius Heyward Bay (Oakland)

Will i ever be a top reciever?

Bill Williamson
  (4:00 PM)

Dounbt it.

Dominic (Charlotte)

Isn't it scary to think that if Scott Pioli was still in charge the Chiefs would have an inexperienced coach that he could control and Matt Cassel would have been resigned with the "THOUGHT" that he would improve and then the Chiefs would go 1-15 next season.

Bill Williamson
  (4:01 PM)

That's why the change was made.

Scott (Denver)

Whos the raiders starting QB next year?

Bill Williamson
  (4:01 PM)

If I had to guess this monet, I'd say it's Carson Palmer in Week 1.

Bill Williamson
  (4:02 PM)

Great hour, folks. Back to our regular Thursday chat schedule next week.
