Chat with Dan Graziano

Dan Graziano
  (12:00 PM)

Yo! What's on your minds?

Ryan (VA)

The Skins spent a lot of money on the offense last year to get RGIII some help. Even though the defense played better as the year when on, which players do you see them targeting? The really need some help @ safety.

Dan Graziano
  (12:02 PM)

I think they will target safeties in free agency and the draft, but Brandon Meriweather is definitely part of their plan at strong safety. They will hope for a healthy return from him, since they believe he can do many things in the defensive scheme they want to run. They'll still need someone at free safety, and I wonder if this George Wilson who just got released from Buffalo works as a veteran leader type. Though they tried the vet-leader direction last year with Madieu Williams and he kind of couldn't play.

Gary (New York City)

Dan, saw the latest mock drafts and I am totally in agreement with you. I will not believe the Giants will take a LB in the 1st round until Goodell actually says so. That being said, what are the odds they would go OL in round 1?

Dan Graziano
  (12:03 PM)

Well, they haven't done THAT since 1999, so I wouldn't hold my breath. If they spend free-agent money to bring back Will Beatty and Kevin Boothe, as I expect they will, I don't see them then committing another of their valuable offseason resources (their first-round pick) to OL also.

Matt (Rhode Island Eagles)

Vick getting a 1 year deal to me is basically an insurance policy. Vick is probably their only "best case scenario" they have, as Foles is not developed enough and the draft is not good in terms of options. There is still one guy in free agency who makes sense for this team, and that's Alex Smith. Why peg Vick for the 1 year now? To me it seems there was more time to shop around and not have to worry about Vick getting picked up anywhere else.

Dan Graziano
  (12:04 PM)

I agree with everything you said here. As for the question, I have to believe Kelly surveyed all of the options and likes Vick better than Smith. You may disagree, but it's not a crazy opinion.

Danny (VA)

What is Dallas missing for a potential deep playoff run?

Dan Graziano
  (12:04 PM)

Better players on the lines. Offensive and defensive.

Gary (New York City)

Dan, the one thing the Giants will REALLY miss about Bradshaw was his ability to pass block. David Wilson and Andre Brown are both sorely lacking in that department. Do you think that convinces Jerry Reese to make the OL more of a priority high in the draft?

Dan Graziano
  (12:05 PM)

Possible, but I think the more likely scenario is that they bring running backs to camp who can pick up the blitz, and running back playing time is in large part determined by the backs' relative ability to do so. David Wilson is a lot of fun to watch run, but if the Giants think giving Wilson the bulk of the snaps is going to get Manning killed, they're not going to do it.

splooz (SoCal)

Quoting Kelly, "I'm not caught up with labels," Kelly said. "Because I don't think it's going to be a ladies-and-gentlemen defense".If your an Eagles fan, does this excite you with the possibility of a new, possibly hybridized, defense, or scare you that it does not have an identity heading into the season?

Dan Graziano
  (12:06 PM)

I think, if I were an Eagles, fan, I'd be excited about the possibilities. If you hire a new coach from the college ranks, your hope is that he's a fresh mind and an innovator. Until he proves otherwise, why not hope for the best?

Mike (Atlanta)

Giants D has struggled much of the time under Fewell. Especially D backs with communication, coverage. Why? Wouldn't it make sense to brings Spags back as D back/ asst HC?

Dan Graziano
  (12:07 PM)

Whatever you think of Fewell (and you're not wrong), it's not as though Spagnuolo's recent track record makes him look like a clearly better option. The Saints' defense this past year was one of the worst, statistically, in the history of the game.

John (New Jersey)

Any word on the Victor Cruz contract? Any foundation to the story that Nicks contract is bigger priority?

Dan Graziano
  (12:08 PM)

Foundation? Didn't Schefter report it? I'd say there's foundation aplenty. It makes sense in a vacuum, as I think Nicks is the better receiver. But they have to be factoring in his health issues. And I have to believe the Giants were happy that story got out, as it might help scare the Cruz camp into concessions in negotiations.

danilo (Richmond)

Do you think dez is the best receiver in the east?

Dan Graziano
  (12:09 PM)

Yeah, right now, that's who I'd pick. Because Nicks couldn't get on the field in 2012, I think that's the way you have to go right now.

Durand (Land of a Thousand Suns)

I'm a loyal Redskins fan, Bleed Burgundy and Gold, but I have to agree with a lot people that believe the actually name "Redskins" is racist, and for people to say they have pride in the name kinda hurts my souls... That's like if the Redskins were called the "Cotton Pickers" and having pride in that. What's your 2 cents in the name and a possible name change.

Dan Graziano
  (12:09 PM)

I'm on the record with this pretty strongly. I think the name is terrible, outdated and should have been changed long ago.

Dan Graziano
  (12:10 PM)

And whether you agree with me or not, it definitely takes it too far in the other direction to insist you're PROUD of the name.

Dana (Under a Bridge)

Enjoyed you on first take this morning. Any thoughts about the Eagles cutting Nnamdi?

Dan Graziano
  (12:10 PM)

Thanks. I imagine they probably will. I am not aware of any deadline for this that they have missed. Kelly's been very busy.

chad (dc)

Where do you think Bradshaw ends up?

Dan Graziano
  (12:11 PM)

Boy, I think he'd make a ton of sense in Green Bay, though they don't tend to sign free agents.

Joey (DC)

Where do you envision Percy Harvin ending up?

Dan Graziano
  (12:11 PM)

Minnesota.

Weech (SoCal)

Dan, You and I align on our stance with Terrell Thomas in that it's hard not to root for a guy who has suffered a horrible injury 3 times now. Do you think this has any affect on what they'll do with Webster?

Dan Graziano
  (12:12 PM)

No, and it had better not. Thomas is a lottery ticket. If he can play, great. If not, nothing lost. They can't make plans around him. The Webster decision will be about Webster and whether there are better options on the market. It'd be too risky to assume Thomas as a Webster replacement in 2013.

Andrew (Dallas)

How do you think Dallas will try to get under the cap? Anyone gone for sure?

Dan Graziano
  (12:13 PM)

They'll extend Romo, restructure Carr, Austin and maybe Ware. I imagine one of either Ratliff or Spencer will be gone, as well as Spears and probably Free. They can juggle, but they have to do a lot of it.

Matt (DC)

Dan, as I see it, the Eagles biggest holes (assuming healthy returns) are: RT, DB, DT, LB. Without healthy returns, you could put all the OL positions on there. Where might Philly find value in FA signings this year so that we aren't counting on rookies so much? Doesn't seem like there's much to like about this year's FAs for the Birds.

Dan Graziano
  (12:14 PM)

Actually, this year's free-agent class is very deep at offensive tackle. And the linebacker market always seems to be a buyer's market. I think their focus needs to be on DB.

rob [via mobile]

Dallas should stay at 18 in the draft and pick best possible o lineman what say you?

Dan Graziano
  (12:14 PM)

I think that'd be a fine way for them to go, yes.

Anthony (nyc)

Ryan Clady is a shanny pick. If he doesnt get frnachised u see the skins going after him for RT?

Dan Graziano
  (12:15 PM)

Sure, but again, LOTS of tackles on the market. Easy to make that connection, and you may be onto something, but they will have options.

matt (LA)

what am I supposed to make of this eagles quarterback situation

Dan Graziano
  (12:15 PM)

Well, you hope something good comes out of it while understanding that it's imperfect but probably the best they can do right now.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

Is Brandon Boykin capable of playing outside regularly or is he best used as a slot corner? A Boykin/Milliner CB grouping seems like a good start.

Dan Graziano
  (12:17 PM)

I don't think we know that answer, because we haven't seen him do it. He has some ability, but he may have to develop into that. Not sure they could throw him into that in '13.

Tino (Mexico)

Hey Dan. Do you think the Cowboys can get enough cap space by restructuring some contracts to bring good quality FAs? they need them

Dan Graziano
  (12:17 PM)

No, I think they're going to have to find some bargains. If they have FA money, they'll probably use it to keep Spencer.

Hog.Brew (Austin)

What's dated to me is the notion that racism is reserved to a few bigots and high profile pop culture names. It's almost hypocritical to call out the 'Redskins" moniker when real racism is more subtle and even widespread. Do you really think there's some sort of justice to be served by calling out an NFL team name?

Dan Graziano
  (12:18 PM)

I just don't see what the harm is in changing it. Absolutely no one's life would be affected in any negative way. And if you can take an action that demonstrates improved respect for fellow human beings without doing any tangible damage to anyone or anything at all, why wouldn't you?

Weech (SoCal)

You're of mindset that Doug Free falls under the addition by subtraction, which I agree with. I would argue that with the change to a 4-3, the DL goes ahead of the OL as need #1. Looking at it purely from a football x's and o's standpoint, do you think Ratliff gets out of "addition by subtraction" umbrella? It seems like Dallas needs him more than vice versa.

Dan Graziano
  (12:21 PM)

I hear what you're saying, and if they can't keep Spencer you are probably right about the change in priorities. To me, though, the really tricky part happens if they lose Spencer AND cut Ratliff. Because if they keep Ratliff, they can play Hatcher at end and look for a tackle. And if they keep Spencer, they can play Hatcher at tackle and look for an end. But if they end up losing both, they have too many holes. So I think Ratliff becomes more important to keep if Spencer leaves.

Jason (Philadelphia, PA)

Dan, hate to be the bearer of bad news (or reality), but the NFL has proven throughout its history that "innovative" coaches (college or NFL) fail without great players - the Eagles currently lack great players on defense, so "hoping for the best" aint going to cut it.

Dan Graziano
  (12:22 PM)

Well, I think they lack defensive backs, but I think there's some pretty major talent in the front seven. Cole, Graham, Kendricks, Ryans, Cox. Jenkins if they keep him. There's a lot to work with on defense, in my opinion. They just need to figure out how to fit it all together, and build a secondary behind it.

Tim (GA)

Did you have fun in the snow this past week?

Dan Graziano
  (12:23 PM)

I did, Tim. I really did. My 7-year-old would stay out there all day if we'd let him, and it's a lot of fun to go out there with him.

Gary (New York City)

Dan, in order of most likely to least likely, what are the odds that Will Beatty, Victor Cruz, Kevin Boothe, Martellus Bennett, Kenny Philips, and Stevie Brown will be re signed by the Giants?

Dan Graziano
  (12:24 PM)

Shot in the dark: Boothe, Beatty, Cruz, Brown, Phillips, Bennett

Pauli Kataja (Finland)

Any possibility that Redskins go for playmaking-WR with their first pick like Austin, Patton or Rogers? Also you do think there will be quality centerfielder safeties availeble when they pick? Thanks for all of your work, always a pleasure to read you!

Dan Graziano
  (12:24 PM)

I just don't think that's enough of a need for them to devote their first pick to it. Garcon was clearly a big-time playmaker for them, and they like Hankerson and Morgan.

Ryan (NYC)

The Redskins issue is the longevity of the name and logo and the brand like Cowboys, Yankees, Red Sox, etc has tremendous economic value. Changing the name of a franchise with the history of the Redskins would probably bring the value of the franchise down. I personally don't care about the name and I'm not saying its right or wrong, but 1) Don't think money has no decision in a sports' team name change and 2) To be fair then shouldn't the Brave, Indians, and Chiefs should get pressur eto change their name as well why single out only the Redskins?

Dan Graziano
  (12:26 PM)

Your first point is well taken, though my first response is that the value of the team is high enough that it could weather it. To your second point, I don't think any of those other team nicknames have any history as racist slurs. I do think the Indians should go with the red "C" on the cap full-time instead of the smiling Indian caricature.

Dan Graziano
  (12:26 PM)

These are my opinions, folks, and you don't have to agree with them. But I offer them to the extent that they are being asked for.

Ryan (DC)

Given the Skins' cap limitations, it seems like they will probably have enough space to sign one significant free agent (a la Garcon last year). Which position do you think they should target? RT, S, CB, other?

Dan Graziano
  (12:27 PM)

Given the depth of the tackle market, I'd spend my money or CB if I were them.

Rampage3 (Wilmington, NC)

What do you say to the Native Americans who consider "Redskins" to be an honor in terms of a mascot being a symbol of strength? Changing the term seems to me to risk Native Americans never coming up in any context in public life or discourse. And I think that would be a very bad thing. At least conversations like this might make someone look up the Trail of Tears of think about modern issue for Native Americans. More than a few people have told me that changing the name to them would be a loss.

Dan Graziano
  (12:27 PM)

A well reasoned and worthwhile opinion, and I thank you for it.

Weech (SoCal)

While Spencer was a DE in college, I think his agent and his assertions that he could play DE (while I think he can) are money-driven. DE's contracts merit far more money than OLB. In fact, they're 2nd highest to QB (in terms of Franchise Tag).

Dan Graziano
  (12:28 PM)

I think you're onto something, Weech.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

The Eagles are so bad it is a disgrace to a proud, strong bird. That's all.

Dan Graziano
  (12:28 PM)

Wow. Think how embarrassed the lion must be, then.

Patrick (Wausau WI)

Any update on RG3?

Dan Graziano
  (12:29 PM)

He turned 23 today, in case you're not on Twitter and hadn't seen one of his 65,000 re-tweets of birthday wishes from fans. As for his knee, he's saying all the right things and was apparently walking okay in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. Looooong way to go.

@Future_Reich (evrtyu)

Would you let your sons play football?

Dan Graziano
  (12:30 PM)

Tough call. Wife is completely opposed. Older son has no interest, younger one wants to play. I understand the reservations.

Bill (AC,NJ)

If cowboys go OT and OG with both 1st and 2nd picks in the draft do we pass the hump of 8-8?

Dan Graziano
  (12:30 PM)

Probably, though we still have to see how that defense comes together as a Tampa 2.

Kyle (Orlando, FL) [via mobile]

Does Kenny Phillips still have a future on the Giants? He could be a hot commodity on the FA market and the Giants have depth at safety (Rolle, Brown, Hill, Sash, T2). I think Phillips is a crucial part of the defense, but do you think he may be a goner?

Dan Graziano
  (12:31 PM)

I think he may be, though I agree with you that it'd be a bigger loss than many realize. Their depth at safety does not include a player who brings all of the things he brings, and I think his absences were a huge part of their issues on defense this year.

David (Charlotte)

In your opinion, what ultimately happens with the "Redskins?" League forces the change or the owner changes it.

Dan Graziano
  (12:31 PM)

League won't touch this one, I promise you. The team would have to do it on its own.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

When does the NFL schedule usually get released?

Dan Graziano
  (12:32 PM)

April?

Gary (New York City)

Dan, if David Wilson becomes the #1 RB next year (or at least gets many more snaps), do you think that would take away from his duties on special teams at all in an effort to keep him fresh on offense? He was just so dynamic in the return game in 2012, I would hate to see that lost.

Dan Graziano
  (12:32 PM)

I think he's young enough that he can handle both.

David (NC) [via mobile]

Right after you were on, Skip and Stephen A ranked nfc east QBs. Thoughts?

Dan Graziano
  (12:32 PM)

I didn't see the rankings.

Jeff (Boston)

I'm kind of disappointed in you Dan...it's been 30 minutes and you have been completely cordial and complimentary to your chatters...what gives?

Dan Graziano
  (12:33 PM)

Go jump in a lake.

Dan Graziano
  (12:33 PM)

(Better?)

Ben (Boston)

What do you think of potentially widening the field of play? I don't see how it would make the game safer.

Dan Graziano
  (12:33 PM)

I can't speak to that, but I have a hard time seeing the NFL taking out seats.

Jordan(florida) [via mobile]

Do you think dallas can beat the broncos and packers at home next season

Dan Graziano
  (12:34 PM)

I promise I'll make those picks on the appropriate Fridays.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

Georgetown looked good last night. Man, that Otto Porter can play.

Dan Graziano
  (12:34 PM)

Six in a row, baby! You're totally right on Porter, but honestly I didn't love the way they played last night. Too many turnovers. They rolled because Marquette made more.

poopoolighter (leesburg va)

if you didn't look at their rankings (skip and stephen) then why answer the question?

Dan Graziano
  (12:35 PM)

Thought maybe he might tell me, then I could comment.

Drake (Philly)

Should I be nervious about Chip Kelley? He announced he was staying at Oregon only to be coaxed out by the Eagles. There was talk from NFL teams that they could tell during his interviews that his heart wasn't in it and he really loved the college game. Is he another Nick Saban waiting to happen in 2 years?

Dan Graziano
  (12:36 PM)

No way for me to know what's in the man's heart, but my guess is your answer will be tied to the level of success he has in his first couple of years.

Tommy (Wye Mills)

are you looking forward to next year's Super Bowl ??? ... other than it being close to home ?

Dan Graziano
  (12:38 PM)

No, it being close to my home is the only thing I like about it. I think the NFL has had a terrible idea here and will be lucky if it goes well.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

I'm struggling to type this legal brief for class, what should I be doing otherwise?

Dan Graziano
  (12:38 PM)

Don't know. Are the ESPN fantasy baseball mock drafts ready yet? I check every day

Matt (Houston)

Do you think Washington would give up Cousins if someone like Arizona offered a 1 this year, a 3 this year and a 3 next year?

Dan Graziano
  (12:38 PM)

No. I think Cousins is going to start for them in Week 1.

Dana (Under a Bridge)

While I enjoyed what you had to say on First Take, your coat/tie combo needed help. Do you dress yourself for those things? Also, what kind of trade value do you think Nick Foles has?

Dan Graziano
  (12:39 PM)

I mean, they called at 8 am for a 10 am shoot. I had to get the kids to school and get to the studio at rush hour. It's a miracle the tie was tied!Foles was a third-round pick a year ago. Can't imagine they could get more than that now.

Ryan (VA )

Last month Shannahan said the team isn't done fighting the cap penalty impossed on them by the league. Any news, or just Shanahan stirring things up?

Dan Graziano
  (12:40 PM)

I don't know of any hope he still realistically has.

Lawrence (Tallahassee, FL)

Sooo...I take it I can't ask draft questions. Welp...how do you think Desean Jackson will be used in the new offense? Would love to see him actually go across the MIDDLE!

Dan Graziano
  (12:41 PM)

On the draft, I just don't know enough to answer yet. Our draft experts are still in the preliminary stages of their evaluations. The combine is still two weeks away. I understand the excitement, but I just can't offer much yet on the draft in terms of specifics. As for D-Jax, I have to think Kelly's up nights dreaming of ways to get him the ball.

Dan Graziano
  (12:41 PM)

"Up nights dreaming." Yes, that is an oxymoron. Sorry.

Matt (DC)

Lets pretend Chip Kelly comes out, runs the ball 55% of the time, increases the # of plays by 10%, and goes with the 4-3 under front, and the Eagles start 2-2. What's the headline?

Dan Graziano
  (12:42 PM)

Depends. Were they 2-1 or 1-2 after Week 3?

GM (Miami)

Dan, you have expressed the opinion that northern superbowls are bad ideas because it isn't just about the superbowl but about the week of events before the superbowl. Does New York turn into a ghost town in the winter? People still are out and about during the week, they just need heavier clothes. The only useful thing about having the superbowl in warm climates is that it renders teams that can play well in the snow and cold at a disadvantage - we might as well move all the teams to the south so that every single NFL operation is conducted in nice weather.

Dan Graziano
  (12:43 PM)

My point is this, and it's actually pretty simple: Super Bowl week is the NFL's biggest week of the year. People come from all over the world, literally, and many of them are people the NFL wants/needs to impress or spoil. Yes, you can get around here in the winter, but the possibility also exists for a weekend like the one we just had, when you really could not. Why would the NFL want to increase the possibility of such a problem with its most important week? To me, not worth the risk.

Peter (Santa Barbara)

If Fletcher retires, does Rob Jackson have the skill set to move into ILB? We don't really seem to have a plan there.

Dan Graziano
  (12:44 PM)

I think the Robinson kid they picked last year is the guy they have in mind for that. But I don't think Fletcher is retiring.

Drew (Bloomsburg)

Eagles RB situation? How would YOU split the carries and how do you think Chip will do? 75-25 in favor of Shady?

Dan Graziano
  (12:45 PM)

My answer (and I imagine Chip's) would be based on how much Brown shows me in terms of his ability to protect the ball.

Pat D (Belfast, PA)

This goes back to a question at the beginning regarding the Giants not having taken an OL in the 1st round since 1999. They haven't drafted a LB in the 1st round since Carl Banks in 1984! That being said, don't we all expect them to take a DE if there's a good one available?

Dan Graziano
  (12:45 PM)

I do. Especially if Osi leaves, which seems likely.

Krusheasy (Earth)

what do you think about the IOC dropping wrestling from the summer Olympics ?

Dan Graziano
  (12:45 PM)

Horrendous. Hasn't wrestling been in the Olympics since like 780 BC?

Jevon (Bahamas)

Any plans on doing a a few posts to address NFC East teams salary cap status?

Dan Graziano
  (12:46 PM)

Absolutely.

Chris (VA)

the agenda to change the redskins name has been around for decades. in a country that has shown time and again that they will jump on any bandwagon that is fighting social injustice, real or imagined, why is it that by and large no one outside the immediate area cares enough to force a change? and my pride in the name is very real and as genuine as my love for the team. dismissing that is at the very least irresponsible and at worst terribly offensive. i respect your opinion, but your total lack of respect for mine is an enormous hypocrisy. thanks.

Dan Graziano
  (12:46 PM)

I have respect for opinions that differ from mine. Disagreement is not the same as disrespect.

poopoolighter (leesburg va)

since we got shafted on 20 minutes of the chat last week, will you be making up 20 minutes at the end of today's chat?

Dan Graziano
  (12:46 PM)

It was 15, and no.

Mike (Atlanta)

Hi Dan - who's career will end first because of injury - RG3 or Mike Vick?

Dan Graziano
  (12:47 PM)

Vick's 10 years older. All due respect, this question is the easiest one of the day.

Weech (SoCal)

With the projected deep OT market, should the Eagles look for a little Peters insurance?

Dan Graziano
  (12:47 PM)

Maybe. I like Joeckel for them at No. 4 if he's there, honestly, because you could play him at RT if Peters is OK and move Herremans to guard, and you have your LT of the future.

Tim (GA)

With what good play we have seen from Lee and Carter last year while they where healthy and better play from the cb's of previous years. Do you think with Kiffen dallas can see a increase of turnovers made by our defense?

Dan Graziano
  (12:48 PM)

Yes, in fact, I think a full season from Lee and Carter would result in more turnovers. Those guys are playmakers.

Mike (Los Angeles, CA)

What do you think of a return of Chris Canty to Dallas? Make sense for both parties??

Dan Graziano
  (12:49 PM)

Not bad. Would improve their flexibility on the line, sure. If they could get him cheap.

Ryan (DC)

Who would you say was the better "find" from last year's draft, Russell Wilson in the third round or Albert Morris in the sixth?

Dan Graziano
  (12:49 PM)

I have to go Wilson, though it's a tough call. QB is so much harder to find.

Mr. W (Dallas)

Im anticipating alot more screens and passes behind the line in Philly. Not really sure why Andy never used them that often anymore. He used to run screens all the time with Brian Westbrook

Dan Graziano
  (12:50 PM)

I actually think this gets to the issue of the Peters injury. The Eagles ran a lot more screens in 2011 than they did in 2012, and I always believed part of the reason was that Peters' ability to block at two levels was the key. Without him last year, their screen game dried up. They couldn't adjust without him.

Peter (Santa Barbara)

Have you heard anything about whether or not Garcon will have surgery?

Dan Graziano
  (12:51 PM)

All I have heard is that he probably needs to but does not want to, and I have no way to project how an impasses like that gets resolved.

poopoolighter (leesburg va)

Did Garrett really have any say in which coaches were fired or kept? Or does Jones want it to look like all of the bad decisions are being made by someone else other than him?

Dan Graziano
  (12:52 PM)

I think Jones wants it to look as though Garrett's making the decisions. I think Garrett wants it to look that way too. For those reasons, I doubt we'll ever get the straight story.

Kung Fu (Panda)

i give up. You're too busy answering weech's questions.

Dan Graziano
  (12:52 PM)

Is this Po, the Dragon Warrior? Or Pablo Sandoval, the World Series MVP?

Mr. W (Dallas)

Speaking of, any updates on Peters' injury?

Dan Graziano
  (12:53 PM)

I think it was addressed in Kelly's presser yesterday, but not in any detail. Something like "he's coming along."

Jon (Philadelphia)

As an Eagles fan Chip seems to be saying all the right things and is a refreshing change of pace after 14 years of Andy Reid. With absolutely nothing to base it on but gut feeling, at this point, do you think Chip Kelly will transition successfully to the NFL.

Dan Graziano
  (12:53 PM)

I kind of do, yes. But he will need a quarterback.

Austin (VA)

Hey Dan,Know anything about how Chase Minnifield's recovery is going and whether he could potentially play any role in an improved secondary next year?

Dan Graziano
  (12:55 PM)

I do not have any first-hand info on his recovery, but you are right that he is a name to keep in mind. They like him a lot.

TimVB (Arlington)

Would Shanahan have made the trade for RG3 if he had known he could get Cousins in the 3rd?

Dan Graziano
  (12:55 PM)

Yes. They are not the same.

Craig (Cherry Hill, NJ)

Did you see enough from Hosley to be comfortable with him playing nickel corner?

Dan Graziano
  (12:56 PM)

Yes.

Kyle (Orlando, FL) [via mobile]

Rank the Giants FAs based on importance. (Kenny Phillips, Will Beatty, Martellus Bennett, and Kevin Boothe).

Dan Graziano
  (12:56 PM)

I think you have it.

Trent Cole (recovery room)

do you think I have a place on this new eagles defense, whatever it may become?

Yeah. I don't think you're done. I think people have bad years, but you'll be fine.

Max (UK)

Any guesses as to the starting 11 if the Eagles go with this weird 4-3 / 3-4 hybrid thing?

Dan Graziano
  (12:58 PM)

Not really, since all four starting DBs could be new and they'll probably need a nose tackle. So you can only project six starters, max. Cole, Graham, Kendricks, Ryans, Cox seem like only sure things.

Gary (New York City)

Dan, do you believe that James Brewer could finally be ready to step in and take over at RT for the Giants next season?

Dan Graziano

Yeah, that would fit with their program. Haven't seen enough from him to know, but I'll bet that's their plan.

Scott (DC)

Do you think the Skins can make it to the play offs if griffin misses the whole season?

Dan Graziano
  (12:59 PM)

No, I would not bet that way. I like Cousins fine, but I think RG III is the key to what they do.

Gotta go, folks. Enjoyed it.
