Good Morning. Final game before the All Star Break tonight vs Sacramento. Frustration mounting over close losses. Eight days to the trade deadline. Lets go
Coop - do you see Brand starting again when Kaman returns, and have the 7'er come off the bench?
Brand had one start lately, at Golden State. Bernard James has been starting, and I believe will continue to do so. Rick Carlisle likes the energy he provides to start the game, although that didn't happen vs ATL. When Kaman comes back, he will be coming off the bench. The numbers when he and Dirk play together aren't very good.
Do yu think that the Dallas Mavericks will make the Playoffs this season?
I have a hard time believing they will, but the fact that everyone else in front of them looks so much mortal than normal playoff teams do keeps me thinking they might have a chance. In the end, who ever takes those final two playoff spots in the West is going to have to be able to win on the road. Neither the Mavs, nor Utah, HOU, PORT, or the Lakers has shown they can do that
Coop what are your thoughts on Carlisle going to Carter at the end of games and taking out Marion? Would have been nice to have Marion on Josh Smith in the closing minute.
He plays Carter vs Marion, primarily for offense vs defense. You'll see him play that game quite a bit. Marion wasn't playing smith for much of the game because they needed someone to chase Kyle Korver around, which Marion did. Matchups didn't dictate that he would be guarding Smith
Has anyone tried working with Roddy on his defense. Seems like he's always chasing after the man he's guarding.
Roddy uses his length well in the open floor. But he, like Collison has a difficult time dealing with screens. Jeff Teague just destroyed both of them the other night using screens
Hey Chuck! I saw the proposed deal for Brandon Jennings and I don't like it, simply because we don't need to settle for a volume scorer. Also, I do not want to take back someone like Drew Gooden in the deal.
Ah yes, lots of talk this morning about Brandon Jennings. Put me in the camp of ABSOLUTELY NOT. Last thing I want to see is an undersized chucker. If Darren Collison played as many minutes as Jennings does, he'd be averaging more points and assists. Jennings has more steals, and is probably a little better defender, but not so much so that I want/need him, AND would have to take back a bad contract to make the deal work
If we traded for Brandon Jennings, who would we be giving up?
In all likelihood, Marion. Although I think there might need to be a third team involved to make the math work
Coop w/ the draft being weak this year and Dallas likely to finish at bottom of the lottery, do you forfeit the number one pick you owe to OKC in order to get it behind you so your not worrying about being worse in future years and not having a top 5 or 10 lottery pick to justify your record?
The pick doesn't come due for OKC for another five years, I would certainly hope that the Mavericks will be good enough five years from now that the pick they're surrendering will be lower than a bottom of the lottery selection.
Do you think Cuban will trade veterans such as Marion or Carter to playoff contenders for the their sakes, I'm not sure if it's hard to tell but the mavs aren't making the playoffs this year.
I think he will trade them only if they get a player who they believe will be a cornerstone of their future. Anything shy of that, and it doesn't make sense for the Mavs to do anything until they get to the summer. And only then, will we see the effects of the Dry Powder strategy and just how smart it is
Coop, can you name a few teams that wount want Marion or Carter to make them a serious contender, and also have some really good young talent to offer the Mavs in return? The more I think about it, it really doesn't feel like the Mavs are in position to be demanding in a trade, unless that team is just wanting to dump salary.
I think marion would be phenomenal for the Clippers in trying to tighten down their defense, and of course Eric Bledsoe would be the apple of the Mavs eye, but the Clips may feel that having Grant Hill there takes care of that. I think Marion is better. As for Carter, he'd be awesome coming off the bench for Indiana, but I don't see who the Pacers are trading that excites me. Its not like you're getting Paul George or anything like that
Coop, does a Brandon Jennings trade make since with a draft that appears to have 9 out of the first 35 picks being point guards like Smart, Burke, etc. Shouldn't the Mavs try to address another position of weakness?
As I said, I'm not into any Jennings deal, and your point is yet another reason why. When the Mavericks draft, the only consideration should be: Best. Player. Available. They need help at every spot.
We'll wrap it here for today. Mavs try to make it 18 straight over Sacramento at the AAC tonight. Hope you'll join Brad Davis and me at 7:30 on ESPNDallas 103.3.
