Let's get rolling
i heard the Raiders was the first to talk to geno smith please tell me we not looking to draft him at 3 or is this a strategy to get people to think were intrested so teams call to trade up with us
The rumors have bene out there for a month. It could be a smokescreen. But if that is the case, the Jags could get agressive and try to trade the No. 2 pick to some team that wants Smith and cut the Raiders off at the knees. Ifd the Raiders do draft Smith, I think it would be a disaster. Give Pryor a chance.
GOOD WORK BILL! With the recent trade for Alex Smith will the Chiefs have a better year than last? Yes I know they went 2-14 and anything is better but will Smith make us a playoff contender?
Thanks ... I do know if Smith alone makes this a playoff team. But he is an upgrade and so is Reid. The Chiefs have to continue to do some things, but they are making strides.
Any chance Den keeps Vickerson or Bannan?
Sure, both if the price is right. But the tema will add at the spot as well.
Bill- It seems to me now, that the AFC West is now full of talent at the QB position for each team. With Manning-Broncos, Smith- Cheifs, Palmer-Raiders, Rivers-Chargers.....is it the best in the NFL for one division? What are your thoughts? Thanks!
It's fine. Some quesitons. There are better Qb divisions out there -- NFCE, NFCN, NFCS, AFCN,
Think we will dump Palmer and let Pryor take over?
I think they wnat to keep palmer another year if possiblee
Does the Raiders salary cap mess signifcantly clear up after 2013?
It will be better enxt year, yes.
Do you see any scenario in which the Chargers have to trade up to get one of the top three Tackles?
I think Johnson should be there at No. 11. Fisher shopuld be gone.
what do you think of a SD-OAK trade in which SD gives its 1&2 for raiders 1, SD gets Joekel or Fisher, and the Raiders get a second round pick?
They might have to add to that a bit. I don't think the Chargers want to give a bunch of picks for Fisher where Johnson may end up being just as good. Also, they wouldn't wnat to help the Raiders improve.
Why are the Chargers not active in making cuts, restructuring contracts, etc.? Are they sufficiently ready for free agency?
There's 12 days til free agency. They are fine. Many teams haven't done much yet.
What are the odds that the Chargers go after a top tier LT in Free Agency and then target BPA with pick # 11?
I think it a real possibility, yes. I think it could be a smart way of going about it.
I'm assuming that the Raiders would like to re-sign DT Desmond Bryant but does Bryant really have any incentive to sign with the Raiders without at least testing the waters in free agency?
He'll test the waters. PSNice mug shot, dude.
Bill: Thanks for the chat! If Star Lotulelei's heart checks out medically, would be the kind of dominating force this defense needs? Dominating NTs don't come out every year, after all.
If it chekcs out as a minor deal, he will be on the table for both the Chiefs and the Raiders.
Hey Bill, what do you think outside of the OL is the chargers other greatest need?
CB.Jamer and Cason are FAs.
Have you heard anything about how contract talks with Bowe and/or Albert are going?
They keep talking. Monday is the franchise tag deadline day, so we should know something soon.
Since we need to find a replacement D lineman for Seymour, a new linebacker to replace McClain, and a number one corner, which position would you address with our first round pick?
best available defsnsive player and right now that may be Sharriff Floyd.
Who is the starting RB for Den week 1?
Subect to change at any time: Moreno.
hey bro, what about nhamdi and bart scott coming to kc, u hear anything?
I think Nnamdi would have a lot of options. Scott has connections with Bob Sutton,. but it has been quiet.
When should we expect mcClain to end up cut, and if he isn't gone after that is it an indication we may beconsidering restructuring to a 3/4 and attempting a rehab?
I think it is a matter of time -- he gone.
What would be the one position Denver would draft in the first round on offense? Slim chance I know but I think its OG. Your thoughts?
There is talk they could go get a Rt and move Franklin inside.
The Raider defense has a lot of holes that we need to fill through the draft. With a defense that will undoubtedly look young, who do you see as the leader?
Huff, Wheeler if he is brought back, Houston.
niners just became a possible trade partner.. 15 picks really
A potneitla trade partner for everyone. Remember, the comp picks can't be traded.
what is the chiefs biggest need after getting alex smith. I think number 1 priority is a shutdown corner. your thoughts
Figuring out the delas with Bowe, Albert and Colquitt and then going from there.
Wouldn't drafting a DE (Dion Jordan perhaps) and moving Lamarr Houston inside to DT improve two positions?
Yes, it's a possibility. On the table.
What's the benefit of leaking the Alex Smith Trade so early? Seems like both KC and SF would have rather wanted to keep it quiet as long as possible to mask future intentions
I don't think it matters. Just get it out of the way.
What is the time frame for hiring someone like Holmgren? Whoever they hire, won't they want to be around for the decisions that are going to be made for FA and the Draft?
I think it is a fluid situation. They are exploring the idea.
What do you think the chances are that the Broncos bring in a new receiver like Wallace or Amendola? I think Amendola would probable be a beast in the slot in Denver with Manning chucking him the pigskin.
Yes, and Welker could be in that mix as well.
Hi Bill - thanks for the blog/chat. Broad Raider question here... in your opinion, what can you realistically say about the Raiders' chances of posting a winning record (9 wins) in 2013? Perhaps better chances in 2014? Been a tough run for us in Raider Nation... would like to think that the hard days are somewhat closer to ending :(
Thanks ... Nine wins? They have a lot of work to do. They have restock the roster. I think expectations need to be modest for at least another year.Remeber, Oakland earned that 4-12 record. Three of the wins came agaisnt two 2-win teams. Still got a way to go.
BW, out of all the AFC West teams, which stadium has the best press box?
KC and Denver.Sadly, the other two are among the worst in the NFL. Kind of goes with the needs for a stadium. Just old all the way around.
any chance raiders can get mike wallace
With what, their good looks?Too much money.
I feel the Broncos really lacked a deep down the field threat last year. How much is WR Wallace expected to cost in free agency?
This is more of a possibility,
Gun to your head, Tommy Kelly here?
I'd have to think he gets cut. Too pricey.
Whats a reasonable salary number for Oakland to keep Carson?
Similar to the Vick deal he just signed.
With the depth of the Defensive Tackles in this draft, do you see the Raiders drafting Dee Milliner at #3 and taking a Defensive Tackle in the 3rd Round?
Possible, but DT is a big need area and if Floyd is special, I think you take him. But Milliner is worth a long look, too.
Hey bill, now that the chiefs dont have a 2nd rounder what position do you think they target with their 3rd
Good question, It depends on FA, though. right now, I'd say ILB and CB are possibilities.
Do you think Reggie would take a chance on the honey badger in the later rounds?
If he feels comfortbale with the off-field chartacer. Let's not get too caught up in a guy with a snappy nickname. He is an average prospect who hasn't played in a year and who has big off-field issues. There are better prospects out there.
We have seen the experts post their perspective Mock Drafts. What is your Mock Draft for the AFC West?
Posted yesterday morning before the Smithstorm hit.
How many Broncos games do you think will be in primetime this year?
HWat's the max, five? Probably, five. Manning is a ratings attraction.I wonder if the AFC West Week 1 MNF streak will continue. The second game of the doubleheader is always on the West Coast. SF and Seattle will be attractive this year.
Does the alex smith trade give moeaki a chance to really shine
It's time. Moeaki is a talent.
Geno Smith>Terrelle Pryor? Your Thoughts?
Don't know yet. It would be a disaster if Oakland bypassed defense and took Smith instead of Pryor and Pryor ends up better.
Level with me Bill... you don't honestly think my Raiders will be taking the QB Smith @ #3 right? They've just got to... got to draft defense first. Floyd @ 3 seems likely, right?
That's how I'm looking at it.
There are some talented defensive players in this draft. I know ive heard the Manti Te'o talk; but who else would be a Bronco target? The defensive backs from what ive seen at the combine have some great upside.
They could be in good shape. Strong for DTs, some good CBs and safeties should be available at No. 28 in addition to soem good MLBs.
after the smith trade is done do you think it will be easier for the raiders to cut palmer knowing he wont go to a division foe
In the grand scheme, I don't think that plays much of a role in this case.
Why wasn't the T. Jones move done last year we more than needed the help, plus they never really gave him a chance at rb last year
Nearly impossible to make a chnage like that during the season when the preperation is on the opponent. That's an offseason project.
I have a man crush on Eddie Lacy. Do you see the Broncos using their first round pick on an offensive skill position player?
Well, I hope that works out well for you.ELway believes in the best available player. If it is Lacy, I can see it happening. Denver will look tot eh draft for a RB at some point. They almost took Doug Martin last year.
Hey Bill, keep up the good coverage, do you think the Broncos can fix their ILB problem with Irving or Johnson?
Bit risky, but they like them both. I still think another MLB will be brought in some form.
Does DHB restructure?
If he wnats to stay, yes.
Is Holmgren being pursued by Reggie or Mark, or a team decision?
It is 100 percent a Mark Davis deal.
How about Lattimore to the Broncos? If he can stay healthy and can get back to form, I think he's the best RB in this draft
I can see it in the right situaiton.
Do the Chargers look for a RB in one of the earlier rounds of the draft? It seems like Mathews has proven to be soft and better suited for a skirt and blouse than football pads. Will this be a priority for them? It seems as simple as foruth grade 101.
It really depend son how they address their OL and CB needs. If they feel comfortable with what they got, I can see a RB taken in the second or third rounds.
Lane Johnson, Eric Fisher, or Chance Warmack at 11 or SD? They all seem like surefire stars in a draft with a lot of depth at the OL
All would be great there.Little chance Fisher is available.
Greta hour, tlak to you next week.
