Hey everyone, we had a bit of a technical issue -- we'll get started on Dick's chat in a sec!
Now we get down to where teams start to really separate. The bubble teams are in or out -- some interesting matchups -- Colorado vs. Arizona, Minnesota-Illinois. There are teams out there that need some wins, and some teams can save their seasons -- Minnesota, Baylor, NC State -- by having good finishes. People really judge by what happens in the postseason -- get hot now, and people will forget you struggled.
Do you feel that the Sooners are in the tourney regardless, or do they need to win at least one conf. tourney game? What are your thoughts on the job Kruger has done in Norman?
He's done a phenomenal job. Oklahoma's got a big game with Iowa State today, and they need to win that game in order to be serious contenders for a tourney bid. I think they'll get in, but a win over Iowa State would solidify it.
Whodo you believe are the 4 No.1's
Indiana, Duke, Gonzaga, and Georgetown. If Louisville wins the Big East, they'll get a No. 1.
After the first day over of the Pac 12 and MWC tournaments, who do you see winning each league tournament?
Pac-12, Arizona's gonna win it, somehow, someway. The MWC is a heck of a conference, although I don't think it's as good as the Big Ten as some are saying. I'll give the edge to Steve Wolford and New Mexico.
Does St. Mary's belong in the tournament with the three losses to the Zags?
I think St. Mary's played themselves out. They're probably headed to the NIT. I think that last game against Gonzaga might have really hurt them big-time. They also ran into a dilemma where there aren't enough quality wins in the conference to give them enough notoriety, so when you face off against Gonzaga, you'd better be successful.
They are truly a bubble team.
Does Carolina's performance (or lack thereof) against Duke make you rethink how far they can go in the tourney? Or is Duke just so good right now that they can make anyone look that bad?
Duke right now, the fact of the matter is, with Kelly and a healthy cast, they haven't lost yet. The bottom line is, North Carolina in certain matchups will create lots of problems. They have some really talented players and given the right matchup will be a very dangerous team.
with the recruiting class UK has coming in next year plus the changes of landing Randle and Wiggins looking really good where would you rate this recruiting class? also do you think Coach Cal get's his 40-0 season?
The recruiting class next years is the best in America. The Harrison twins give them a legit backcourt. They were good but not elite next year, and with steady backcourt play, they'll be legit. Both Harrisons are legitimate. Even if they don't sign both Randle and Wiggins, they will still have a terrific, terrific class.
Do you think Iowa State will be in the dance?
They'll lock it up if they beat Oklahoma -- it'll help tremendously. You don't want to leave it on the board for people to debate -- you want to put knockout punches.
With 'Nova's win, 8 Big East teams in "The Dance" is a lock....right?
Nova is in, no doubt about it. I don't think it's debatable to me -- they have too many quality wins. This Big East swan song should see them well-represented in the tournament.
Is Ohio State a solid sleeper pick to make the Final 4? How do you see them doing in the B1G Tourny?
I don't call them a sleeper pick at all -- they're a very dangerous top 15 team. I think the Big Ten has at least five teams that can win six in a row, and they're one of that lot.
YOU are da man!! Do the Rays have the pitching this year and does Marquette have what it takes to make a final four? Thanks!
I'm going down to see the Rays in a bit, actually. Their pitching is outstanding, their run production will be outstanding with Escobar, Loney, and a full year out of Longoria. Marquette is a dangerous team that plays with a lot of intensity, reflecting their coach Buzz Williams.
Do you think today's game is a must win for Illinois and the Gophers?
Not a must win in terms of getting in the dance -- they're both in. I think it's more so for Minnesota -- they have been so up and down and need to get some swag and some confidence. Minnesota's been one of the big disappointments, along with NC State and Baylor.
Hey Coach, what is your opinion on schools with losing records getting in after a conference tourney win? Personally, conference tournament wins means you're the hottest in your conference, and so you're probably the conference's best chance a Cinderella. So I say, let 'em play!
That's the idea of a conference tournament -- one last chance to chase their dreams. It's up to you to find a way to win if you had a down year. Everyone's got one except for the Ivy League. If they earn it by winning, so be it.
I'll be doing the ACC with Dan Shulman -- looking forward to the finals and Selection Sunday. Imagine a team like Middle Tennessee State being left out -- no team that has won 28 games has ever been left out. If Kentucky were to lose to the winner of the Arkansas-Vanderbilt game, would they be in? I say yes. Joe Lunardi says no. There will be a lot of interesting things happening, a lot of questions that will still be answered. We'll find out on selection Sunday, then we kick off the greatest three weeks in all of sports.
