Ohm
  (1:01 PM)

Hey guys, wud up?

Brandon (Md)

If Cruz walks, would the Giants use the newly acquired pick on a need position or best available?

Ohm
  (1:03 PM)

Brandon, first off, this is not about Cruz walking... when you say "walk" it is as if he has the power to stay or leave. He is a restricted free agent. The Giants will determine whether Cruz stays this season or goes if he draws a contract offer from someone else. If another team offers him a deal, which I think the odds are fading on that, and the Giants decide not to match because they don't have the cap space to pay him that kind of money, then they would probably use the pick on best player available. But it would also depend on where the pick is in the first round as well.

Josh (Syracuse, NY)

How will the Giants replace Bennett? I know they don't value the TE position, but I think people are underestimating how big of a loss he is.

Ohm
  (1:04 PM)

I believe the Giants will either pick up a cheap veteran or draft somebody with one of their later picks and see if Robinson is ready to step up. But I think they could see how the tight end market goes in these next several days. Here is a bigger longer piece on what they can do at tight end: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/23351/analysis-replacing-martellus

Dan (Manhattan)

Hey Ohm, do you think the Giants are going to try and restructure Chris Snee's contract? It seems like a hefty number, and maybe they can free up some $ to bring in depth.

Ohm
  (1:05 PM)

It is possible but remember, the more you restructure, the bigger that player's number gets later in the contract. Diehl still could be a possibility to take a pay cut. But we have to see what happens with Boothe.

James McMahan (Washington DC)

I was excited to see Aaron Ross come back to the Giants. Do you think he still has what it takes? Maybe moves to safety? I like the idea of a Webster, Amukamara, Ross, Thomas, Rolle, Johnson secondary crew.

Ohm
  (1:06 PM)

I think Ross can be the extra corner and provide good depth in case someone gets injured which happens often with Giants corners. Don't see safety. I think the Giants need another body or two at corner.

Brandon (Md)

Who fills the slot if Cruz walks?

Ohm
  (1:08 PM)

There's that word again "walks." LOL. If the Giants were to refuse to match an offer sheet, if there was one, then I would say Jerrel Jernigan is the leader in the clubhouse but the Giants could go and look for a cheap veteran with slot experience for competition as well.

Alex (NY/Long Island)

Giant LB's are J.Williams/Herzlich/Paysinger...probably worst threesome in NFL..ridiculous don't you think? How can we not obtain starting LB. PS Kiwi never was and is not a LB

Ohm
  (1:09 PM)

The Giants will add more linebackers. Either through free agency or draft. And Kiwi was at one point, officially, a linebacker. But I think his greatest value is at pass rusher, especially this coming season.

Anthony (Bergenfield, NJ)

Hey Ohm. I'm very curious about the LB's. I've always felt that Herzlich could be a franchise type player. Do you think he'll get a fair shake to start this year? And do you think he has what it takes?

Ohm
  (1:10 PM)

Depends on what happens in free agency. If they get a good veteran MLB, we have to see... but I do think Herzlich will get a look to see what he can do in camp.

Martin (NYC)

Are the Giants and Cruz still trying to work out a long-term deal? Or are they going to wait it out and see if another team makes an offer and then decide to match?

Ohm
  (1:11 PM)

I believe once Cruz officially signs with his new agent, they will have talks of a new deal but the Giants also have time and they could see if another team offers. It probably is a combination of both.

Justin (Minnesota)

Do you think the jets will end up being the worst team in nfl in 2014

Ohm
  (1:11 PM)

It's not looking good at the moment in free agency. Let's see what happens with Revis. But they could be in for a tough season.

Martin (NYC)

Are the Giants showing any interest in FA LB's outside of Brinkley?

Ohm
  (1:12 PM)

Schefter says they have expressed slight interest in Maualuga and Star-Ledger says they have interest in Justin Durant.

Andy (Reston, VA)

Ohm - what is good?! Beyond what the Giants have already done (Ross, Jenkins, Brown), will they make any other signings? Feels like they need to take care of Brown, Brown and Cruz first no?

Ohm
  (1:14 PM)

Hi Andy. They tendered the Browns and Cruz. So at the very least, those guys are back for this season barring another team making them an offer sheet. Then Giants have right to match or refuse and if they refuse to match, they get a first for Cruz and second rounders for either of the Browns. They will sign players. Just letting market shake out. Giants don't have a ton of money. They want to re-sign Boothe first. But they could add a cheap CB, LB, S, OL eventually.

At some point last year, the Giants needed both Hixon and Barden

Last season, the Giants needed both Hixon and Barden at some point. With both expected to depart through free agency, do you think WR is a higher priority than is being reported?

Ohm
  (1:15 PM)

I do think they need to add a backup body or two at WR. But remember, Hixon and Barden weren't going to see a ton of PT this season with Nicks, Cruz and Randle. And at some point, Jernigan has to be ready for more PT as well.

Matt (Clifton Park, NY)

Are there any rumblings of offers on the table for Cruz?Does he seriously have to wait 3 days to sign because of the new agent?

Ohm
  (1:16 PM)

There is a five-day waiting period before his new agent becomes official. He can sign the tender whenever he wants to. But he has time and there's no need to rush. Now obviously if the Giants offered him a mega deal right now, he would sign. But there really is no rush here.

Craig (Cherry Hill, NJ)

Ohm, I know Eli has an ability to make average TE's look good. That being said, The TE's are disappearing fast, is there a TE the Giants are linked to, or are they going to give the job to Beckum?

Ohm
  (1:18 PM)

Craig, the Giants will either grab a tight end in free agency for the cheap -- all the best ones are gone but the Giants weren't going to pay that kind of money into a tight end anyways -- or they will draft one and then have a competition and fill it with Pascoe, Robinson, Donnell and a vet or rookie. Beckum is a free agent. So they could bring him back but we have to see.

Fish (Hershey, PA)

The only FA linebackers I am really interested in are Jasper Brinkley, Daryl Smith, and Karlos Dansby, what is the probability one of them are brought in and in what order are they most likely?

Ohm
  (1:19 PM)

Brinkley already visited. Not sure on the other two. But remember, hard to see the Giants paying big money for a linebacker. They don't have much cap space and have to re-sign Boothe and try to eventually pay Cruz and Nicks.

jay (SD)

Market has been set for Cruz. Slot Wr's looking at a $6mm+ per year. With being said, I doubt Jeff Fisher would sign Cruz for a large contract and give up a 1st. Maybe the vikings?

Ohm
  (1:20 PM)

I don't think that is the technically the market for Cruz. I think Cruz is worth more than that. But with all that being said, yes, hard to see Rams offering big money and a first when they weren't willing to outbid Pats for Amendola. And Vikings, possible, but they are looking at Greg Jennings.

Anthony (NJ)

I havent heard much about Boothe or Phillips, do you have any updates?

Ohm
  (1:21 PM)

Nothing much so far. Phillips looking and so is Boothe. Phillips could very well end up elsewhere. I think Boothe is looking to see what other guards and O-linemen get.

Matt (Calif)

Hey Ohm, do you have a feel for what's going on with Kenny Phillips? Is there a chance he resigns and the cut Rolle loose? Obviously you want to keep everyone, but even with Phillips injury history, Rolle is older (play is starting to show signs of aging) and probably more expensive. Thanks!

Ohm
  (1:23 PM)

Hey Matt, I think the odds are KP is going somewhere else. And I think Rolle is more valuable to the Giants than Phillips. Phillips' knee just hasn't been the same since the injury. And Rolle means quite a bit to them with his versatility and tackling ability and leadership as well.

jim va.beach [via mobile]

Hey ohm. Did the giants ever ask eli if he would restructure his deal for cap room?

Ohm
  (1:24 PM)

They've done it in the past and I think if they can, they rather not restructure him probably because his number is big and you don't want it to get bigger and bigger toward the end. They may look to restructure elsewhere.

John (New York City,NY)

Have the Giants shown any interest in LB Dan Connor, recent;y cut by Dallas?

Ohm
  (1:25 PM)

Haven't heard anything on that front yet. But I am sure Jerry Reese is doing his due diligence and looking at all options. Always keep in mind they are limited with what they have to spend.

Chuck (In the Cube)

In the honor of Pi day Ohm, whats your favorite pie??

Ohm
  (1:25 PM)

Without a doubt -- Pumpkin Pie.

Tyler (Massapequa )

What about ojomo and Tracy? Any chance they make an impact

Ohm
  (1:26 PM)

They will definitely see what those two can do in camp. But if Osi doesn't return as expected, one of those two could become the fourth pass rusher. Don't forget Trattou either.

Matt (NYC)

I understand the Giants are thin on the line, but is that really a defensible reason to keep Diehl? He was horrible last season. Pro Football Focus had him as one of the worst offensive linemen in football and the eyes told the same story. Even if cutting him means you have sign a player for the exact same money, wouldn't that be better than holding onto a guy at an expensive salary who should never see the field?

Ohm
  (1:29 PM)

Matt, if you cut him right now, and Boothe doesn't return, you have no guard to fill LG with any experience. They already is uncertainty at RT with Brewer potentially starting there. You don't need two holes on your line and then cut Diehl, who you at the very least know can play both guard and tackle positions and has experience. He's played through injuries the past two seasons as well. So again, you know Diehl has been able to play both positions and he knows the offense. Personally, I think you have to see what happens with Boothe first. Diehl has more value than you think. He did struggle last year but you got to be responsible to some degree and not leave the offensive line in shambles.

Craig (Cherry Hill, NJ)

With all the LB linked to the giants, Who does it sound like is the most likely candidate?

Ohm
  (1:29 PM)

Hey Craig, got to wait and see. They are still visiting and the market for linebackers are think is just getting under way.

albert (jersey)

why not make a play for dustin keller? def less $$ than bennet??

Ohm
  (1:30 PM)

Albert, I like Keller's receiving skills. But not sure if he is the blocker that the Giants are looking for. Remember, they want a guy who will be out there on first, second and possibly third down. If they got a guy who can't block, the Giants will feel they can't run the ball and they will telegraph plays if they have a pass-catching only tight end out on the field.

Ohm
  (1:31 PM)

And they aren't going to pay a ton for a tight end after losing Bennett. That's just my feeling.

Tyler (Massapequa )

Lets say the giants draft a dynamic pass rusher who could have an immediate impact. Do you think this would be enough to turn the defense around

Ohm
  (1:32 PM)

I just don't think they are going to get a "dynamic pass rusher" who will have immediate impact at 19. They got JPP at 15, I believe, a few years ago and they didn't use him much as a rookie. The Giants usually want their rooks to develop and learn and earn their trust first. I think the Giants need a lot of things to turn their defense around. They need better pass rush, must stop the run better and have to improve coverage.

I LIKE TACOS (BROOKLYN NY)

hey ohm, how are ya? do you have any idea what are the issues keeping cruz and the giants from agreeing to a long term deal? years or dollars?

Ohm
  (1:33 PM)

Wud up Tacos. I would assume both but probably more money than anything else. IMy guess is Cruz wants to be paid like a No. 1 receiver. And the Giants have to pay both Cruz and Nicks so they don't want to give two guys No. 1 type money.

CJ (Vegas)

off topic, but do you think the packers will sign peyton hillis?

Ohm
  (1:34 PM)

No idea my man. But I am intrigued by that signing for them.

Mike (NY)

Do you see the Giants bringing in a FA linebacker? If so, which is most likely? I like Jasper Brinkley, Daryl Smith, and Karlos Dansby.

Ohm
  (1:34 PM)

They already had Jasper in for a visit... I do think they are looking for veteran linebackers. But got to be at right price, is my guess.

willy (albany ny)

Where's Bradshaw goin??

Ohm
  (1:35 PM)

He's still in process of rehabbing. But teams like Miami and Cincinnati had interest in him the last time he was a free agent. Have to see how the RB market shakes out.

Craig (Cherry Hill, NJ)

True or False, Barkevious Mingo will have the best name in football ever.

Ohm
  (1:36 PM)

It is pretty awesome. But I think I like Jadeveon Clowney better. One of my all time favorite names was a guy named Napoleon Outlaw at Michigan State.

al (jersey)

think giants should take a look at keller? maybe hell take a drop less so he doesn't need to move?

Ohm
  (1:37 PM)

If he's cheap maybe... but I think he and Miami are talking. And as I said earlier, can Keller block the way the Giants want him to?

Bill (PA)

Any word on Kenny Phillips? Any chance the Giants can bring him back especially since they don't have to re-sign Bennett?

Ohm
  (1:37 PM)

If he comes back, it's gonna be at the Giants' price which is probably gonna be low. I think KP is going to probably end up elsewhere.

Gary (New York City)

Ohm, back in 2010, recently released linebacker Karlos Dansby reportedly had his options down to the Giants and Dolphins before choosing Miami (the Giants ended up signing Keith Bullock I believe). Would there be interest by the Giants to finally bring him in or do we just simply not have the cap space for it?

Ohm
  (1:38 PM)

I'm sure the Giants will look into it. Just don't know if they can afford him or what his price is.

joe (nyc)

Hey Ohm I love the MSU TE Sims looks like a great smooth athlete and I thought he would be a great fit for the gmen while watching CF this season. When you said the gmen had watched him at the combine was that a source or did you actually see that?

Ohm
  (1:40 PM)

A source told me and Sims said the Giants talked to him. Now much can change between now and the draft so who knows. But from watching him play, Sims is a big body athlete who can run routes and has soft good hands. He can make plays in the receiving game. Blocking-wise, probably needs to improve there. But he has skills and talent Mike Pope could work with. Now, where could he go in draft? Third round perhaps? My guess is the Giants probably would like to grab a tight end lower than that if they could but we will see.

Alex (NY)

I know Kiwi was officially a LB..my point is HE IS NOT A LB! Not at BC not in NFL. They are ruining his career! He is a very good DL..Regardless of prior success, they need a real MLB. Ogletree if available

Ohm
  (1:42 PM)

Again, I think Giants are best served moving him to full time DE. And my guess is they will. I still am not so sure that Giants will draft a linebacker at 19 unless somebody drops that wasn't expected to be there. If they don't land a linebacker in free agency, then they probably have to strongly consider drafting one high.

Gary (New York City)

Ohm, it appears the draft may be the Giants only real option for getting a TE at this point. Your thoughts? PS wow the bears must have been desperate to upgrade Kellen Davis to give Bennett 20 mil.

Ohm
  (1:43 PM)

Gary, let's see what the Giants may be able to get toward the end of free agency. Never know, there could be some decent tight ends who are looking for jobs. But you are right, they could draft a guy with one of the mid-range picks and then hope that Robinson steps up in camp. As for Kellen Davis, yeah, Bears were pretty frustrated with their tight end play it looks like.

al (jersey)

any chance giants take a flier on kevin boss? is jake ballard a fa?

Ohm
  (1:44 PM)

Boss is a FA. Not sure about his concussion health. Ballard I believe is an exclusive rights free agent, correct me if I'm wrong. So I think he's going to be a Patriot as far as I have been told.

Phil (NJ)

hey Ohm, what's up? don't worry, I'm not gonna use the word "walk" With this whole Cruz situation, welker moved to denver and wallace to miami, etc..do you think the situation is gonna hard to the giants? meaning cause if nobody offers him a deal which is likely like you said, then he can become a free agent and then play somewhere else without the giants getting anything in return, even tho he publicly stated that he wants to spend his career with the gmen. if we resign cruz, are we gonna have enough money to lockup Nicks? thanks! btw do you know/have any source where I can calculate the giant's salary cap?

Ohm
  (1:46 PM)

Hi Phil. He won't be a free agent until next year. So with the RFA tender, he will be with the Giants for at least this season and they can continue to work on a new deal if nobody makes him an offer by April 19, I believe. Hard to say what the Giants cap situation is right now. They could be working on restructuring guys as we speak. Here's a more in-depth piece on Cruz: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/23405/how-does-welkers-move-impact-cruz#comment

pete (NYC )

if you drafting for the giants who would be your top 3 choices as a first round pick?

Ohm
  (1:49 PM)

I am not going to say which players by name because the draft is too volatile right now. We don't know who is going to go where. But from a position standpoint, I would go pass rusher or defensive lineman, offensive lineman and then corner or linebacker.

Jake (NJ)

Looks like Mundy will sign today from what I am seeing. Do you see that being the last move or do you think a guy like Brinkley could also be signed even though he left his visit without and offer much like Jenkins?

Ohm
  (1:50 PM)

Yeah, just saw USA Today saying they are close. This won't be the last move by Giants. They will make more moves but likely small cheap moves.

Steve (NY)

Hey Ohm, What do you think a JPP contract would look like in a few years? How much is that impacting Cruz, Boothe, and eventually Nicks? Thanks!

Ohm
  (1:51 PM)

Steve, yes, I do think Giants are keeping that all in mind when thinking about what they spend this month. That is why I tell fans all the time, keep an eye on the future, not just the present. You must be able to keep your own young talent.

Josh (Binghamton NY)

Is Andre Brown on track to be ready for the preseason?

Ohm
  (1:52 PM)

He working hard. Says he might've been able to return if the Giants had been in the Super Bowl. But he should be on track to be back for preseason. But Giants should take it slow with him to be careful.

Alex (Long Island)

Is there another since released corner that the Giants could target? I'm not very optimistic that Ross is the answer as a starter.

Ohm
  (1:53 PM)

I'm sure they will look for more corners. They need more bodies.

Jack in Silver Spring (MD but a Bronx boy originally)

Hey seems Gmen close to signing Ryan Mundy. Does that mean KP is gone? With signing of Ross plus other DBs can you see someone maybe moving over to safety?

Ohm
  (1:54 PM)

Jack, that's my hometown, SS, MD. If Mundy signs, he probably is there to compete for third safety spot. As for moving somebody else to safety, they would have Rolle, Brown, Mundy, Hill, Sash and they've talked about possibly moving Thomas to S to prolong his career. I think that's enough. They need more corners.

Gary (New York City)

Ohm, just how "raw" is last year's 4th round pick Adrien Robinson? Is he any closer to seeing the field at all after his rookie year or will he go down as a failed project?

Ohm
  (1:55 PM)

He was raw enough to basically not play last year. He's going to need to show progression this year in order to get on the field. He's not a failed project yet. They just drafted him and were fully aware he will need time to develop. He barely caught passes at Cincinnati but he has nice athleticism.

Ohm
  (1:56 PM)

Alright guys, I got to check on Mundy. Thanks for all the questions this week!
