Chat with Jamison Hensley

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:01 PM)

Hello all. Thanks for stopping by to chat. I will do my best to answer as many questions as humanly possible. Let's get started.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What do you think will be a perfect fit for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2013 NFL Draft?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:02 PM)

Ravens would love Georgia ILB Alec Ogletree to fall to them. But, even though he has off-the-field issues, I can't see him dropping to the bottom of the first round.

Jim (Ohio)

What are you hearing about the Bengals being able to resign Andre Smith?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:03 PM)

It sounds good. Teams are apparently worried about giving Smith too much money. There's questions about whether he'll still be motivated. If Bengals don't re-sign him, there are plenty of options in the draft. But none are as athletic as Smith.

Chris (MD)

Would Michael Huff slot in as Ed Reed's replacement if he signs with the Ravens? Making the starting safeties Huff and Ihedigbo?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:04 PM)

That sounds like the plan. But no team official has indicated that Huff is the fallback option for Reed. Not sure if they have enough cap space to sign both.

Chuck (Cincy)

Can you tell Who Dey Nation to calm down about not being aggressive in free agency? I'd rather extend Atkins, Dunlap and Johnson; re-sign Smith and Adam Jones than go spend big bucks on outsiders.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:07 PM)

I agree that extending Atkins, Dunlap and Johnson should be a priority. The only criticism I have is the failure to address strong safety in free agency. Yes, the Bengals can draft someone to start. But getting someone in free agency doesn't force you to take one because it's less of a need.

Auto4Short (FL)

Are the Bengals going to sign any player that was not on their team last year?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:09 PM)

I expect them to sign at least a couple of FAs from other teams. But it will be done the line. Remember how they picked up the likes of Terence Newman and Jamaal Anderson at good prices because they were patient.

Stlrfan743 (gettysburg pa)

is there a chance that James Harrison is.back with the black and gold this season? have there been any conversations about this being a possibility? I know the Steelers brass expressed that they wanted to keep James.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:11 PM)

There is always a chance, but I don't see it happening. Harrison would't take a pay cut and I don't see him coming back at a price that would be even lower than the original pay cut. Plus, when the Steelers part with their big name players, they don't typically bring them back. Look at Hines Ward, James Farrior, Aaron Smith.

Brian (Philadelphia)

Hey Jamison, with the Bengals re-signing Rey Maualuga and Marvin Lewis insisting that he will remain at MIKE, do you see it possible for the Bengals to still use the 21st pick on a linebacker?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:12 PM)

That scenario would be more realistic if the Bengals don't bring back Thomas Howard.

Stlrfan743 (gettysburg pa)

any news on whether or not the patriots are planning on tendering an offer to emmanuel sanders?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:13 PM)

Nothing yet. Patriots still haven't signed Sanders to an offer sheet.

curtis (ohio)

do you see the browns signing any defensive backs or safeties any time soon?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:14 PM)

The Browns made a good run at Falcons free-agent CB Brent Grimes. They reportedly sent a private jet for him. That would be a big signing for Cleveland. But there's talk that Grimes is thinking of staying with the Falcons. Bucs and Dolphins are also interested in him.

Chris (Switzerland)

Hey JamisonDo you think Dumervil can make the transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 OLB? I hope that Worilds will be ready to start, whats your thinking about his chance to replace Harrison?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:16 PM)

Dumervil's athleticism allows him to play both of those positions. As far as the Steelers, I think Worilds can be a solid player but not a spectacular one. Pittsburgh needs to address the pass rush in the draft.

Frank (middle east (lebanon))

Hey... love this chat thing you do, keep it up... any news about the ravens? whos on their radar? what happened with harrison, dummervill????whos rumored to go there? whats the latest news on reed.? Youre the only one that knows the ins and outs so help me out

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:18 PM)

If the Ravens are going to sign any pass rusher soon, it would be Dumervil because he is drawing the most interest. The Ravens know the longer they wait on the likes of Harrison, Osi and Freeney, the lower the price becomes. Newsome loves bargain deals. As far as Reed, the Ravens will make a competitive offer (but likely not the best one) and hope Reed's ties to the team gets him to stay.

Michael (Cincinnati) [via mobile]

Pittsburgh won't panic. Come draft day the perfect player lands at #17 for them. Never fails

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:20 PM)

Well, Ziggy Hood and Cam Heyward don't really fall into the "perfect" category.

Jack (Phoenix) [via mobile]

True but Peter king said that James Harrison is drawing little to no interest on the market, so if nobody else will pay him what he wants, doesn't it make sense to stick with what he knows?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:21 PM)

Some team will eventually sign Harrison to a one-year deal. I wouldn't rule out the Ravens. He has a connection with defensive coordinator Dean Pees, who was his college coach at Kent State.

Rashard (Arizona)

Boy its hot here compared to what I am used to...and why do I always find a bad OL to run behind? It keeps me from being elite

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:22 PM)

That fumbling problem and failing to report for games can also be a problem, too.

Average Joe (mean, median, )

As a first round pick is Ziggy a disappointment, a bust, or meets expectations? If you go with exceedes expectations you got some explaining to do

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:23 PM)

I would say disappointment. He would fall into the bust category if he never developed into a capable starter.

Mark (Houston)

Any word on which way Terrance Newman appears to be leaning?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:24 PM)

No word on where he's leaning. But Newman is close to Mike Zimmer. That has to weigh into the decision. But he also knows the Bengals want to get Kirkpatrick into the starting lineup at some point this season.

scott (the burgh)

new blogger fr afc north??

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:25 PM)

Is that a question or a request? Not sure.

Aaron (DC)

Afternoon, Jamison. Do you see the Browns making any more moves in free agency, or do you think they're content to wait for the draft to try to plug the rest of their holes?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:27 PM)

They'll have to address cornerback in some fashion, whether it's a top-level guy like Brent Grimes or a stop-gap like New England's Kyle Arrington. You can't go into the draft with that hole there.

Rob (San Antonio)

Do you think the Browns will take a qb early?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:27 PM)

It depends. Would you consider fourth round early?

scott (the burgh)

question

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:29 PM)

No new blogger. You're stuck with me. I will always be there in some form, even if you don't like it. Kinda like Brownie the elf.

Michael (Cincinnati) [via mobile]

Scott's just pissed his offensive line didn't become the best unit in football, like you predicted

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:30 PM)

Yeah, predictions aren't my strong suit. If they were, I would be the Las Vegas blogger.

David (State College)

JH keep up the good work, Scott is a #$%#! Do you see the Steelers drafting a qb or recommend it? Batch and Leftwich should be gone time for new guys to develop.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:31 PM)

QB is not high on the list, especially after they signed Bruce Gradkowski. I can see the Steelers taking a flier on a developmental one very late in the draft.

Troy (K-Town)

Any idea how big of a role dre kirkpatrick could play for the bengals this year?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:32 PM)

Bengals would like for him to start at some point. Look at the history of the other CBs drafted in the first round by Marvin Lewis: Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph.

Peter G (New Berlin, WI)

Do you think the Browns overpaid for Kruger and Bryant?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:35 PM)

Kruger, a definite yes. $20M guaranteed for someone who has 15.5 career sacks. Bryant, no. Teams around the league know his value. That's why the Patriots wanted him as well.

TitoThroughTheTulips (Flower Bed, Front Yard)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, how much are the Browns going to regret not bringing Phil Dawson back this year?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:37 PM)

8. Just ask Ravens fans about the year of agony watching Steve Hauschka and Graham Gano try to replace Stover.

mike (cleveland)

What do you think about M lombardie being a "Lighting rod"???

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:37 PM)

I know I wouldn't stand next to him in a storm.

Great8 (College Park)

Who's the early favorite to play LT for the Ravens this year?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:38 PM)

Michael Oher. Remember, you asked the question. Don't get upset with the answer.

Shane (Charlotte)

Do you think it makes sense for the Steelers to try and sign T Sebastian Vollmer?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:39 PM)

I think the Steelers were interested in Jake Long because he was such a significant upgrade. Not sure if Pittsburgh thinks the same about Vollmer.

Coltrane (Eastern Shore MD)

Who would be better for the Ravens Dumervil or Harrison

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:39 PM)

Dumervil will be more productive but he'll also be more expensive.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (2:41 PM)

Thanks for all of the great questions. I really do appreciate the heavy interest in the blog. Will talk to you next week. Have a great rest of the week.
