Fantasy NBA with Tom Carpenter

Tom Carpenter
  (11:00 AM)

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It's Tuesday, which means it's time to take a breather from March Madness and shore up our rosters for the stretch run of the fantasy hoops campaign. Let's get to it ...

David (Florida)

Morning Tom! Any word on K.Lowry's injury and with all hand on deck in semi's this week any days off replace him?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:02 AM)

Hey, David. Not much news out there about Lowry, other than that he has a sore knee. That could mean just about anything. However, considering the Raptors' light schedule (3 games this week) and his less-than-stellar production of late, I wouldn't hesitate to move on if there is a decent waiver option available and Lowry ends up missing game action.

P-remium Gas-ol (Unknown Yet)

Tom: Semi's this week so should I continue to hold P.Gasol after first 2 games back or go for a hot FA that I need to contribute now?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:05 AM)

That decision really comes down to who might be available on waivers and how patient you can be. In a vacuum, I'd lean toward giving Gasol another week to get his legs, but since he doesn't really offer high-end upside, if you can ride a hot hand off the wire instead, you should move on.

Jay Edwards033 (Portland, Oregon)

The Heat's streak is meaningless since most of their teams on their schedule are below .500 teams. If you ask me Denver's streak has more meaning since they are playing above .500 teams...

Tom Carpenter
  (11:08 AM)

That's a bit of an oversimplification, Jay. Exactly 15 teams are over .500 right now, so odds are half of anyone's games are going to be against below-.500 teams. Only a dozen of the Heat's games have come against sub-.500. Any way you slice it, the Heat are on an historic run.

Keanu (Honolulu)

Hi Tom, I need a late push in the percentages, threes, and steals. Who is my best bet: Jeff Green, Jerryd Bayless, or Tobias Harris?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:10 AM)

With Kevin Garnett out for a while, I'd take Jeff Green from this group, Keanu. He should be set up to post some excellent stats going forward.

Drew ((NY))

What are ur thoughts on Wade the next two weeks? I am the 1 seed and he's not doin me any favors right now

Tom Carpenter
  (11:13 AM)

He implied yesterday that he would be back Wednesday, Drew, so that sounds promising. However, a sore knee can become a nagging issue, which could lead to some random DNP-CDs in the waning days and weeks of the season. I guess I'm hopeful but a bit nervous when it comes to D-Wade ROS.

Nafis (SF)

Tom, would you rather have Felton, Mo Williams, or Gerald Henderson the rest of the year in a points league?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:15 AM)

I definitely would ride Henderson, ROS. He has the hot hand and plenty of opportunity to roll.

Ben (NY)

I traded Wall for Bosh a few weeks ago. Should I be kicking myself right now?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:17 AM)

Yes, but you can't worry much about hindsight in fantasy hoops. A few weeks ago Wall was just as likely to miss games and fizzle than explode like he has, so moving him for Bosh would make sense.

Ben (NY)

Please rank these players for the home stretch: Lowry, Klay Thompson, Calderon. Thanks!

Tom Carpenter
  (11:17 AM)

Ben, I would go Klay, Calderon, then Lowry ROS.

Grizzlies or Warriors? (Main Street)

pick one ROS, please: J. Bayless, B. Beal, or J. Jack? thank you!

Tom Carpenter
  (11:20 AM)

I'd look at Beal if he ever gets back on the hardwood, but in the interim, Bayless and Jack are a toss up -- though I'd lean toward Bayless.

Roger (NY)

Jeff Green or Kawhi Leonard? Standard ESPN H2H (needs scoring more than anything else at the moment)!

Tom Carpenter
  (11:24 AM)

Both are looking like solid options down the stretch, but with KG out of the mix for now, you have to go with Green.

ED Davis (Memphis)

cat 9 daily needing to win to move on week 22 keep P.Gasol or go for---E.Davis,T.Chandler,Kenyon martin,T.Gibson? Needing blocks, steals,RB's and decent shooting %'s.

Tom Carpenter
  (11:28 AM)

If Chandler is going to get back in action -- sounds hopeful as of this morning -- I'd take him for sure. If he remains out of the mix, I'd lean toward Taj Gibson.

Loghan (MIA)

is vasquez's or cp3's injury going to cause them to miss wed game? i have roberts but i am debating whether to hold him or drop him for bledsoe

Tom Carpenter
  (11:30 AM)

It sounds like both are iffy but maybe closer to probable for their next games. I think CP3 is more likely to play his next game, so I'd hang onto Roberts, Loghan.

Ben (NY)

Hey Tom - love the chats! When do you think Drummond will be back? Do you think he will be eased in? Is he worth picking up?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:36 AM)

It's no secret that I'm a big Drummond supporter, but at this point of the season I'm pretty skeptical about his ability to have a significant impact for fantasy teams. He may not be back for a while, and once he does return, it would be surprising if coach Frank just tossed him into a starter's role with starter's minutes. Keep an eye on Drummond, but I'm in wait-and-see mode.

Steve (OP)

Hi Tom, Whats the latest on Metta World Peace's knee injury from last night? Tobias Harris the real thing for future years out in Orlando? Thanks

Tom Carpenter
  (11:40 AM)

We should know more about MWP after he's examined further today. Judging by post-game comments he sounds pretty iffy for tomorrow's game. As for Harris, the kid is definitely posting some eye-popping numbers for a guy who could barely crack the Bucks' rotation. His fantasy impact next season will rest primarily on how the Magic fill out their roster this offseason. If Harris continues to have a featured role in the offense, he'll carry plenty of breakout potential.

inequalities (math land)

rankings ROS, please: D. West > A. Kirilenko > A. Drummond > E. Davis. agree or disagree? thank you!

Tom Carpenter
  (11:41 AM)

Health issues aside, I think that's the correct order. But obviously, there are plenty of health issues in this group.

Nathan (NYC)

ed davis, mcbob or jonas val? would you drop eric gordon for ellington or etwawn moore?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:45 AM)

Nathan, I would use Valanciunas from that group. His role is secure, he's currently healthy and has the skills to make a splash in the waning weeks of the fantasy hoops season. Keeping Gordon is so frustrating, you'd probably be better off moving along ... tough call though when your waivers are so dry that Ellington and Moore are your best options. I'd take Ellington if I were to drop Gordon.

Kevin (Chicago)

Marc Gasol for Jeff Teague and Chris Bosh. Good trade?

Tom Carpenter
  (11:50 AM)

I'd rather have the Bosh/Teague side for it's overall value, but it's a fair trade -- assuming this is a keeper league, of course. Acquiring a damaged Gasol now in a redraft wouldn't make much sense, obviously.

Tom Carpenter
  (11:53 AM)

I apologize, folks, but I'm going to have to cut out a little early today. Please be sure to check out the Fantasy Focus podcast later today, as Adam Stanco and I will be discussing the latest fantasy hoops topics. Also, you can follow me on Twitter @AtomicHarpua ... see you back here next week!
