Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

Ohm
  (1:00 PM)

Hey guys, what's up? GO MSU vs DUKE!

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks!

Ohm
  (1:01 PM)

Been telling you for a long time now... it's all about March for MSU. Glad to see you guys at Michigan are finally seeing what it feels like to get to a Sweet 16.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Do you think that Mante Te'o will be a perfect fit for the Giants if he is selected at 19?

Ohm
  (1:02 PM)

Chris, no not really. I like Te'o and think he's solid. But I'm not sold that he is the impact linebacker Giants need and that if they did draft him, I am not so sure that he would step in and be a starter right away. If they were to land him, he would be a good fit but not sure if it is perfect. I think the Giants are better off going pass rusher or OL or CB in first round.

Rich (New Jersey)

Hi Ohm - Will the Giants take Alec Ogletree, Georgia / ILB if he's still on the board, if he's already drafted, what best available will the Giants take in the 1st round?

Ohm
  (1:03 PM)

Rich, I wish I could see Jerry Reese's big board but alas I cannot. I am not sure if they will take Ogletree... All I can say is based on their history, the Giants seem to value taking pass rushers, offensive linemen and CBs or S more in first round than a linebacker.

jim va.beach [via mobile]

Hey ohm.think GM reese was impressed more with one player than the others at LSU day? And do you think he would consider mathieu. Thanks

Ohm
  (1:05 PM)

I've heard the Giants like S Eric Reid going into the pro day. I don't know how they are feeling coming out of the pro day or what Jerry liked or didn't like. The Giants like to keep their draft thinking pretty close to the vest. I think they will consider Tyrann if they think he can play because I think they can handle the risk with a veteran locker room and Corey Webster serving as a mentor.

Michael C. (Westport, CT)

Watt's up, Ohm? How many times have you heard that one?My question is this... Does Coughlin have Coach for Life status, or would they ease him out if the team has another no-playoffs ending this season?

Ohm
  (1:06 PM)

Actually I think that is the first time Michael... corny! LOL! I don't think Coughlin is in danger of being fired if they miss the playoffs again. He's a two-time Super Bowl winner. But for TC I think it is more an age thing and how long he will keep at it. In my mind, TC probably can coach easily another five years.

Rich (New Jersey)

Hi Ohm, Chase Blackburn now heading for Carolina, who would be penciled in as the starting linebackers right now?

Ohm
  (1:07 PM)

As of now, Jacquian, Dan Connor and Keith Rivers. But I do think Herzlich will get a chance to compete for MLB. I think Kiwi moves to DE.

Alex (Anaheim)

Do you think the Giants will use the Super Bowl venue as additional motivation this year?

Ohm
  (1:08 PM)

I think they would love to play in the SB regardless of where it is at. With it being at home, I am sure that adds to the excitement but they want to make the Super Bowl regardless.

Dan (Smith )

The defensive front will not be good unless the Giants get ZIGGY ANSHAHHHHHH

Ohm
  (1:08 PM)

Dan, well, then I guess the Giants pass rush will be no good in your mind because I think Ziggy will be gone by the time the Giants pick.

giantsbigd (oklahoma)

will the giants finally draft a linebacker in round 1 ?

Ohm
  (1:09 PM)

Possible but I still think pass rusher or OL or CB.

Ohm
  (1:09 PM)

That's just my guess unless a BPA drops into their lap.

Nick (Montclair)

Who are some of the private workouts that the Giants have had besides Warmack and Maysonet?

Ohm
  (1:10 PM)

I guess they call it "private" for a reason. The Giants don't reveal that information to us unfortunately.

austin hunt (UCF EX)

where do you see the giants going in the draft, and is it likely they trade back, and grab picks later so they can fill more of their needs?

Ohm
  (1:11 PM)

Austin, don't see the Giants trading back. Jerry likes his first-round picks. That's just my guess... and again, I think they should go pass rusher, OL or CB unless a stud falls into their lap unexpectedly.

Ben Z (Maryland)

The Giants, with their FA signings and cap limitations, seem to be more inclined to acquire depth rather than starting caliber talent. Im thinking this trend will continue with the draft. Is there an outside chance we trade up for a Blue Chip prospect on defense (since offensive talent seems to be young and in no need of upgrades), or will it be business as usual and wait for pick 19?

Ohm
  (1:12 PM)

Ben, likely business as usual and staying at 19. Giants don't often trade to move up or down in the draft. They value their picks and Jerry would have to surrender picks to move up.

Dan K (NJ)

Whats good Ohm, With the signing of Louis Murphy and the emergence of second year player Rueben Randle who do you think is the third WR for a majority of the season

Ohm
  (1:13 PM)

Hey Dan, Randle at No. 3. Murphy for depth, battle it out with Jernigan for fourth WR.

mark (Cheektowaga, NY)

Osi to the Falcons; how will this work out for the Giants in the long run?

Ohm
  (1:14 PM)

I see the Giants moving Kiwanuka back to DE to be third DE and replace Osi. And then Tracy, Ojomo, Trattou compete for fourth pass rusher and possibility Giants draft a pass rusher. They will miss the strip sack component brought by Osi and his speed, though. But time for somebody else to step up.

Gary (PA)

Ohm, what is going on with Cruz's and Nick's contracts? Will either be taken care of soon?

Ohm
  (1:14 PM)

I don't know how soon but Giants want to lock both guys down. My thinking is that it won't happen anytime soon. May be something that goes on throughout the year.

Jeremy (Rockland)

What's the plan for Right Tackle?

Ohm
  (1:15 PM)

Diehl and Brewer compete in camp. And always a possibility they draft a lineman in first round as well.

John (Chapel Hill, NC)

Best of luck to your Spartans tomorrow Ohm we certainly have no love for DOOK in Chapel Hill.Other than letting Phillips walk for what turned out to be a small price I've loved what the GMEN have done thus far this offseason. My question is at defensive tackle. Linval has been solid but do you see Marvin Austin (TARHEEL) making a jump in year three? Any non-jewelry related contribution from Shaun Rogers?

Ohm
  (1:16 PM)

Thanks... HUGE GAME. I like Marvin but his progress has been slowed by injuries of course. This will be a big camp for him but the signing of Cullen Jenkins and Shaun Rogers will likely keep Marvin as a rotation guy.

Bill (Long Beach)

Ohmie! Good afternoon! All things being equal, I feel JR's done another good job this off season. I particularly like the Myers and Conor signing. Myers not as athletic, nor is he a better blocker than bennett, but better hands. I also think Conor is an upgrade over Chase

Ohm
  (1:18 PM)

I do think Myers can be an asset in passing game and I think Giants did as well as they could with the market and price they paid after losing Bennett. The question is his blocking. That is important because he will have to block in order to play multiple downs. As for Connor, we will see but right now seems to be good fit. Don't discount Herzlich as well.

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

no matter who the Giants draft in the first round, will they be an instant starter in their respective position?

Ohm
  (1:18 PM)

Mark, considering how hard it is for a rookie to earn the coaches' trust, I'm betting whoever is drafted at 19 will not be an immediate starter.

Nick (Montclair)

Hey, so who would be your ideal pick for the NYG, Ohm? Any guys that you've found as intriguing fits?

Ohm
  (1:20 PM)

No names yet. More just thinking by position. Remember something when it comes to Giants and drafts... they often look toward the next season and season after that when thinking about who they pick and filling needs. SO think about what the defensive line will be like after this season and what the offensive line might be like next season and secondary as well and where they have to plug holes and have guys potentially start in the future, not so much this season. Of course, you want your first-round pick to help a bit this year but for most part you are thinking about the future and what could happen in the following year and season after that. And that is why I think they need a pass rusher/offensive lineman/cornerback/safety/linebacker.

Ray (Southside)

waddup OHM..love ur work...remember last yr i told i got a puppy and we named him Sparty...we got him some sparty gear and he is ready to roll the Dukies..anyway given the departure of KP, and our subplay in the secondary, do u see us going after Vaccarro from Texas??

Ohm
  (1:23 PM)

I love it Ray. My next two dogs I am going to name them Webber and Juwan. I love those names even though I'm a Spartan. I do have love for the Fab Five. Anyways, I think they addressed safety for this season but if a Vaccaro was there at 19, they got to consider him in my mind because Rolle has two years left on his deal at a large price and Brown is playing this season on RFA tender.

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

who you got going to the Final Four? Other than MSU I assume?

Ohm
  (1:24 PM)

I did like three brackets but in my two biggest ones, I had MSU, New Mexico (ugh), Indiana and Kansas and in another I had Louisville, Gonzaga (ugh), Indiana and Florida. I couldn't pick MSU to win every bracket I filled out! LOL

Nick (Montclair)

Boooo, you'd think they'd throw you guys a bone once in awhile for all your hard work.

Ohm
  (1:24 PM)

This is probably in regards to the private workout question right? Yeah, no bones for reporters man. LOL.

robbie (the bronx)

Why did the giants resign aaron ross? Do they feel satisfied at safety with an injured Terrel Thomas and Webster?

Ohm
  (1:26 PM)

Robbie, they desperately need experience and depth at corner. They need extra bodies at corner. As for safety, I do think they feel like they can go with Rolle, Brown, Hill, Mundy, Sash and if TT comes back, that is gravy.

austin hunt (UCF EX)

week 1...whats your oline looking like

Ohm
  (1:26 PM)

Beatty, Boothe, Baas, Snee, Diehl/Brewer

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

I know that everybody makes a big deal about Cruz having to be extended before the season's over, but is it possible that Eli can help in not only restructuring his contract but by making them both look good with the great passes he can make?

Ohm
  (1:28 PM)

Mark, Eli has said he would be open to restructuring but the problem is his cap number is already huge now and in future years and if you restructure, you are strangling your cap even more in the future. Perhaps he could do something like do a new extension later. And yes, he can make both look better this season but that will only make the Giants have to shell out more bucks. LOL

PJ (NJ)

Hi Ohm: Do you think the Giants projected Jernigan for the slot and happened to be pleasantly surprised when Cruz stepped up? If so, then do they now view Jernigan as expendable? If not, then what actually was the plan for Jernigan?

Ohm
  (1:29 PM)

Yes, they drafted Jernigan to play the slot. I don't think he is "expendable" because who knows what could happen with Cruz and his future. But I feel that Cruz will be a Giant this season and then the Giants can franchise him if they don't come to an extension. But it's nice to keep developing Jernigan in case something happens with Cruz. They did use a third rounder on him.

Eduardo (Bronx)

will osi be re sign?

Ohm
  (1:30 PM)

Not for at least two years. He just signed with the Falcons last night.

Ohm
  (1:30 PM)

Unless of course Osi were to get released after this season by the Falcons for some reason...

Jay (NYC)

Ohm - With Osi officially gone, do you expect that Tuck will follow him out of town after the season or will they lock him up long term?

Ohm
  (1:31 PM)

I think there's a chance they could work out an extension. But probably best for both sides to play out the season. If Tuck has a great season, his value will only go up.

Chris Martin (Washington, DC)

I can't tell. What positions do you think the Giants will draft?

Ohm
  (1:31 PM)

Don't poke the bear. LOL.

Ben Z (Maryland)

Thanks for answering my question, Ohm! I figured it would be business as usual (one of the reasons i love my Giants!) Who do you think is the most anticipated player on the giants roster to make the next step on defense? I have a hunch Will Hill might be close to the top on that list, or maybe Jacquan Williams...

Ohm
  (1:32 PM)

No prob Ben. Both very good choices!

Martin (NYC)

So you think the most likely resolution is that Cruz signs his tender on April 19th?

Ohm
  (1:33 PM)

Doesn't have to happen on April 19th. There is, however, another deadline in June I think when the team can reduce how much he can make this season if he hasn't signed his tender by then. So I would imagine he signs his tender by June or come to an extension.

Newt (Jacksonville)

Alec Ogletree, despite being burdened with the "LB" label, would be a great pick at No. 19 with his athleticism. That horrific run D isn't going to fix itself, after all ...

Ohm
  (1:34 PM)

Newt, I am all for the Giants taking best athlete available at 19. More athletes and speed, the better. Especially on defense. But remember, what will their O-line look like in 2014? Snee is getting older. Baas and Snee repeatedly battle through injuries. How will RT work out? Diehl will be a free agent.

Josh (PA)

Hey Ohm! What do you make of the Giants bringing in Hightower for a visit? In your opinion, do you think this is a sign of the Giants uncertainty of turning the reigns over to Wilson (pass protection issues) and Brown (injury) just yet, or would this be a depth move?

Ohm
  (1:36 PM)

I think Giants are just looking for gems anywhere they can find them. Hightower has to prove he's healthy first. He was great out of the backfield and the Giants can use a RB who can catch out of the backfield and protect Eli on third downs. So yeah, perhaps he could compete to be that third back if his knee is back.

Rossy C (Motown, NJ)

Any chance they sign Tollefson at vet minimum for DE-Line depth?Seems like a great backup/rotation guy and teammates love him.

Ohm
  (1:36 PM)

Possible. I would certainly love to see that happen. Tollefson is an awesome dude.

Ohm
  (1:37 PM)

But Giants will also want to see what Tracy, Ojomo and Trattou can do as well.

Martin (NYC)

Which Giant player do you think has the potential to step up and play a bigger than expected role this year? Two years ago it was Cruz and last year it was Stevie and Andre Brown.

Ohm
  (1:38 PM)

Could be Jacquian. Could be Brewer. Could be Randle. Could be Rivers. Hard to say.

dan (smith)

the giants could trade up for ziggy you moron.

Ohm
  (1:38 PM)

As I explained earlier, if you trade up, you got to give up picks. Jerry values his picks.

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

if TT gets injured again this year and is done as a result, should the Giants just stick a fork in it and be done with him for good?

Ohm
  (1:39 PM)

Let's hope it doesn't get to that. TT is a good guy and has worked really hard. Just think of it this way, if he can make it back this year, that would be icing on the cake. If he can help in any way this season that is a bonus.

PJ (NJ)

Was J. Jernigan a wasted draft pick?

Ohm
  (1:39 PM)

Not yet. We have to see what he can do with more snaps.

Ray (southside)

Wow..if u name ur dogs Webber and Juwan u may not be allowed back on the MSU campus....that is sac religious stuff right there..lol

Ohm
  (1:40 PM)

Not if I name my firstborn Plaxico Mateen Izzo Youngmisuk.

Jerry (Reese )

1. Offensive Line must improve to help running game2. Defensive Pass Rush will help secondary3. Giants Must acquire Brandon Jacobs back for motivation, locker room, and organizational purposes to be a feared NYG team

Ohm
  (1:41 PM)

LOL! The first two are on point. Brandon would be a good addition for locker room. I guess we will have to wait and see. Never say never.

Ray (southside)

How bout Cleeves and Respert for ur dogs???

Ohm
  (1:42 PM)

Mateen is for my son or daughter (of course, whoever my wife is will have to agree to that) and Respert... hmm... I like that one a lot! One of the best shooters I have ever seen live to this day.

Bill (Long Beach)

The Giants missed the patented "Osi strip sack" last year, they were few and far between. I dont think he had any? maybe, one?Last year was his worst year against the run. "That Osi" won't be missed. Kiwi a much better all around end>

Ohm
  (1:44 PM)

I think he did have at least one last year, maybe I am wrong. You are right about Kiwi playing the run. But I do think they will miss that strip sack component. Could be a weapon and his speed on the edge was terrific at times. But yes, Kiwi should improve run defense.

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

Te'o can be one of these quiet success stories for the Giants if all he does is his job well and focuses on that. I know playing in NY makes that difficult, but b4 LT got messed up, he was pretty good last time I checked. Not that he's in LT's class; just saying...

Ohm
  (1:45 PM)

I really don't think the fake GF thing will be that big an issue if he came to Giants. Early on yes. But to me it is more on the field. Is he good enough, fast enough, athletic enough to be an every-down LB for them or even start on first and second downs? If they were to draft him, would be start ahead of Connor and Herzlich right away? How about next season? Hard to answer right now.

Ohm's mom (NYC)

I am so proud of you Ohm. You are my intelligent, beautiful, and emotionally stable boy that I have personally raised. Don't forget to eat lunch!

Ohm
  (1:46 PM)

Haven't eaten lunch yet and who says I am emotionally stable? LOL

Ohm
  (1:46 PM)

I will be a wreck if MSU loses Friday night. Take that to the bank.

Joe (CT)

Ohm, do you agree that the Giants will be picking Fluker with their 1st round pick? Seems like the best move.

Ohm
  (1:47 PM)

Not bad Joe... All under consideration would be my thinking.

John (Chicago)

Is it possible for the Giants to come up from the back and cause pain to the top projected seeds in the NFC?

Ohm
  (1:48 PM)

"Come up from the back and cause pain"... I'm still trying to process that one. LOL. I think the Giants can contend next season, yes. But there are question marks and new guys have to step up with opportunity.

Martin (NYC)

Opening day starter at RB? Wilson?

Ohm
  (1:48 PM)

Wilson or Brown. Either way I see a time share.

mark (cheektowaga, ny)

The one guy we seem to overlook in all this hoopla is Tuck. What do you project his upcoming season to be, an up- or downgrade?

Ohm
  (1:49 PM)

Gun to my head... Tuck comes back and has a good season. Of course, I just want to see more bows.

Ohm
  (1:50 PM)

But in all seriousness, Tuck is too hard a worker and too proud a player to count out.

Keith (TN)

With Wilson getting more carries, will he lose KR chances

Ohm
  (1:50 PM)

Depends on who they get in free agency. But I think you got to protect him and not expose him to more hits on kickoffs. Just my take.

dave (hackensack)

hey Ohm, what are Trattou's chances of contributing this year?

Ohm
  (1:51 PM)

If healthy, he should have an opportunity to show that he can compete with Tracy and Ojomo in camp. But I still give edge to Tracy there.

Walid Corso (Albany)

Is it ethical for Bill Cowher to come out of nowhere and steal the Head Coaching job if Tom Coughlin " coughs" up the season?

Ohm
  (1:52 PM)

I just don't see the Giants owners firing Coughlin even if they don't make the playoffs. But that's just me. Man, what is up? Are you guys not feeling Coughlin anymore? He just won a Super Bowl a little over a year ago...

Joe (CT)

Thoughts on Coughlin's replacement when he calls it quits?

Ohm
  (1:53 PM)

Man, lot's of questions about TC's future today. Wud up with that?

Keith (TN)

The fact that NYG didn't talk to Manti at the combine, is that a strong signal they aren't interested, or is that common if they plan on bringing him in for a private later maybe

Ohm
  (1:53 PM)

Could still bring him in or could have talked to him since Combine...

Ray (southside)

Amazing how Respert was the best player on the team, and could really fill it, but Eric Snow had the longer and more productive career in the NBA...crazy

Ohm
  (1:54 PM)

Not so surprising considering Respert's size and Snow's athleticism and size. And then Shawn got sick as well. But would have been nice if Shawn could have played more point guard and stuck.

Joe (CT)

Ohm he is 67. Thats all

Ohm
  (1:54 PM)

Going on 57...

Martin (NYC)

With Bradshaw gone, who do you expect to be the emotional leader of this team?

Ohm
  (1:56 PM)

Rolle, Tuck...

Eric (Oradell, NJ)

What are the chances the giants take either Warmack or Jonathan Cooper at the 19th pick if either is available?

Ohm
  (1:57 PM)

Eric, wish I knew Jerry's big board right now. But I gotta think that they are on it.

Nick (Ny)

Will the Gmen add anymore secondary help

Ohm
  (1:57 PM)

My guess is yes. I think they need more bodies for depth. But I don't think any big names unless somebody comes for cheap.

Ohm
  (1:58 PM)

Alright guys, thanks for the questions this week! I may try to answer all the left over ones in a mailbag in the Giants blog later... thanks and have a great weekend!
