Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Let's get rolling.

ibetonart (Oaktown)

Rumor is Buffalo is trading up with Oakland to get in before Philly to nab Geno Smith....swaping picks with Oakland and sending them a 2nd rd pick and more.....is that a rumor or me just wishing?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

There will be a lot of rumors in the next few weeks. COuld make sense, though.

John (MO)

Will Brandon Albert be at the mandatory OTAs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

He said he will be, yes.

Aaron Sund (Denver) [via mobile]

If the broncos choose to use the 28th pick on a defensive player, who could the broncos target later in the draft as another running back? Hopefully one that can pick up those third-and-shorts...

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

I think a running back wil be taken in the first few rounds, yes.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Any news on Rolando Mc' being traded soon?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I see him getting cut. If someone wants to trade for him, it'd be great for Oakland. But who will it be?

Steven C. (Florida)

Who do you think Oakland should get in the draft? I know for sure it shouldn't be Geno Smith.

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I'd take Florida Dt SHariff Floyd. He can be a game change.

ibetonart (Oaktown)

Any news on Mike Jenkins and Oakland? Or any FS and Oakland Usama Young or Kerry Rhodes maybe?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Just kind of waiting on Jenkins. Jax and Buffalo interested. Probbaly not much money out there. Come down to best fit.

Eric (Boise Id)

The chargers dont have much to spend in free agency. My question is why not? who do they have a ton of money invested in besides rivers and gates

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Weddle, Hardwick, some dead money.

Anthony Busch (Orlando)

Hey Bill the raiders have no RT that is good. What do you think the Raiders will try to do. Bring in a Free agent or draft one.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Maybe, but with lots of other needs, Barnes may be the guy again.

PT (Franklin, NC)

Do you think Pryor will get a legit chance to start or does Flynn's contract make him the default starter in Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Did you see Flynn's deal? $6.5 million. You don't pay a backup $6.5. Only way Pryor starts this year if if Flynn is a bust in the preseason. Perhaps he will be beaten out for the second straight camp (it was Russell Wilson last year), but I think Oakland expects Flynn to keep the job.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

Why do you think the Raiders should take Floyd over Millner?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

It would be close, but I think you go for the big DT. I wouldn't have a problem with Milliner, though.

Rob (Louisville, KY)

Bill do you think the Raiders will target a QB in the 2014 draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

If Flynn and Pryor are terrible, yes.

christopher mckinney. tx [via mobile]

Who will the broncos draft with there first round pick? Someone to replace elvis perhaps?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I think that is where they look first. RB, CB and MLB possible, too. They will have some solid choices.

Carlos (Monterrey, Mexico)

Why didn't the Raiders make a move for Nmandi? he came in cheaper than Porter.

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

A lot cheaper. I think he wanted to go to a contender. Not sure if Oakland evne thought about him, though.

winston (1 arrowhead lane)

Bill,,,,your thoughts on KC's new DC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Bob Sutton is an experienced guy. Good NFL experienced. Worked with some defensive coaches.

Robb Fett (Harrison Fords closet...waiting...)

BW - SF has amassed picks with a team that is solid in starters and in depth...I read that they might want to move up into the draft for a "star type player".And that has me thinking...SD 1.11 (1250pts) trades to SF...for their...1.31, 2.34, 3.93 (1288pts) [SF would have 1.11, 2.61, 3.74, 4.128 etc]or1.31, 2.61, 3.74, 3.93, 4.128 (1284pts) [SF would have 1.11, 2.34, 4.128 etc]Doesn't it make sense for SF to jump up for their star guy with the extra 2nds and 3rds that they would still have? With the pts/picks aligning right...wouldn't that make it a win/win?Thoughts? (sd can then punt a lower 2nd or 3rd to kc for their fat LT)

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Sounds smart to me. It would be worth considering to both teams.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Have you heard from Jano since Lechler left? Wonder what his thoughts are...

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Sure he isn't thrilled. But he's bene around for years. He knows it's a business.

Will (DC)

Who are some potential 2014 free agents that Oakland might target with their increased cap room next off-season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

They will look at lookign up their own players first.

John (MO)

Will the Chiefs draft another QB in the late rounds or will they stick with Stanzi as third string?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

It all depends on what Reid thinks. I could see a youngster being brought it. Reid has a history of drafting QBs in Philly.

Luke (Denver)

If the Broncos do select a running back early, who will be the odd man out? Moreno or McGahee?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I'm not sure if either one would have to go right away. But with that being said, this may be the fianl season in Denver for both players.

Bo J (Canton, OH)

I realize Raiders are a year away from at least being competitive, but does Mark Davis realize this? I think Reggie is safe for a while, but what does Dennis Allen need to do to keep his job this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

That's the big question. All depends on if there is progress made this year.

Patrick (Tucson,Az)

What are the chances DE Moore from Texas A&M will be available at the 28th pick for the Broncos and if he is would the Broncos pounce on it with their "best available" mentality?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Mel Kiper's two-round mock today actually has Moore going to Denver in the second round. I'd be surpised if he fell that far, but it would be a great value.

FriarBolts (San Diego)

What is your take on the UT report by Kevin Acee that Rivers is playing in a "final audition" for the bolts in 2013?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I will have some thoughts on that on the blog at soem point today. Here's a hint: I cna see it.

ibetonart (Oaktown)

I agree with you Palmer is a QUITTER not sure why Sando was defending him the other day other than Palmer is in his NFC West....just glad that 4th qt INT machine is gone!

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Facts are facts, right?

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

Will the Raiders first draft pick this year dictate whether they use a 3-4 or a 4-3?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Maybe, but I I think they stay 4-3 while having flexibility to go 3-4. Floyd is vers. but considered more of a 4-3 DT.

Jason (New York)

What are the chances that the Chargers pull the trigger on Winston or Clabo to replace Clary at RT?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I think they still like Winston. More likely than Clabo because he is cheaper.

Jake (Lawrence)

BW, love the blog! Why are the Chiefs looking so hard at Dion Jordan potentially being the number 1 overall pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Thanks, I think they are looking at a lot of guys and he has big talent. I know, they already have Hali and Houston. But if they think he cna be a three-down guy, why not?

Joseph Hill (St George, Utah)

Bill any word on Peyton Hillis? He would be a perfect backup for oakland if Mcfadden got hurt again this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

He is out there. Not a lot of interest. The old Razorback backfield would come pretty cheaply.

Robb Fett (Harrison Fords back seat...waiting...)

Phillip Rivers...when does SD draft a back up qb? (i am thinking Nassib if he drops into the 3rd round...which wont happen)

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Yeah, they have some other needs, though. But a young QB is needed there.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Was the Terrance Newman debacle ever serious, or was he just playing the Raiders against the Bengals?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Probably just playing them.

mike (temecula ca)

should eric fischer fall past detroit at 5, do you see the chargers attempting to trade up with cleveland or sit tight at 11 and gamble lane johnson is still there

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

It's a tough one. But they have other needs and limited resources, so I think they have to stay at No. 11.

PT (NC)

What about Star over Floyd for Oakland, Star seems to fit the Oakland's multiple looks philosophy better. Star can play 3-4 and 4-3, Floyd strictly 3-4

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Scotus think Floyd will be a better 4-3 in NFL. If the Raiders are convince Star is healthy, sure, he can be the pick. Easy.

kevin(Jamestown, NY) [via mobile]

Will the raiders look at any other wr's since Hixon was signed by the Panthers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Again, many needs, I just think they saw an interesting guy and looked at him. But sure, they could use a WR.

Jack (Boston)

BW always great work-am I the only person who thinks the Cheifs off-season is overrated? Alex Smith has had half of one good season-let's not think he is suddenly Drew Brees.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Thanks, they did a lot and filled many needs. Strong offseason. But it all comes down to the QB. If Smith falls on his face, the Chiefs will be back to Square One at the most improtnat posiiton on the field. But there is no denyifn the roster aorund him is getting pretty good.

mike (san diego ca)

can you see the chargers going o-line with there first 2 picks in the draft..warmack or cooper at 11 and terron armstead in the 2nd

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

It would certainly be jusitified if they did that, sure.

Mike (NJ)

Raiders are definetley going 3-4. Their personnel fits 3-4, whereas with a 4-3, there are holes at dt and de, where this isn't so much both gaping holes in a 3-4. What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Dennis Allen said they will not stray from their fundamentals, which is 4-3. Still, there will be some 3-4 looks.

mcnever answer my question (confidential)

Tell me where do we go at RT, and Middle linebacker, I need some names pronto

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Sure would be easier to McAnswer your quesiton if you told me what team you are talking about pronto.

Sam (NYC) [via mobile]

I know it's early but do you think the broncos are going to let decker go after this season to make cap room for DT and Von

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Yeah, that is all way premature speculaiton. They have some plans to make but it's way too early to think about it.

Karl (AZ)

If Fredrickson from WI is there in the 3rd roiund do you think SD would grab him as an eventual successor to Hardwick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

They also like the kid they drafted out of Michigan last year. That's the thing about the Chargers' O-line. They need help but in Molk, Harris and Troutman, thre are some potential starters in the next year or so.

Mark (Toronto)

Are the Raiders really going to turn to King or will they bring in some veteran punters to compete? I know its minor, but Jano has had the same holder for his whole career. A rookie would worry me.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

It should worry you. King has potential, but he is green.

SB58 (California)

should the Raiders sign McFadden to a long term deal or look to replace him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Depends on if he can stay healthy.

mike (temecula ca)

what kind of trade value would philip rivers have if the team decides to go in another direction

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Well, that would be next year and the only way he'd be traded would be if he has a third straight bad season. The amrkey wouldn't be too strong.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Can we even call this a rebuild at this point? Most of the guys being brought in are on 1-year deals. That's not building anything for the future. Seems like a straight demolition project.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Yes, it is at the very beginning of the rebuiiding. They should have maybe done this year last year. The rebuiding really gets going next year/

Travis (Fredericksburg, VA) [via mobile]

Bill, do you think B. Albert will be traded? What's your gut telling ya?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I think he'd like to be traded (so he can get a long-term deal now) and I think the Chiefs would like to get a second-round pick. So, there is interest. Got to find a trade partner. Right now, Miami looks like best bet.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

Other than McClain, any other Raiders about to be cut or traded?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

They are pretty gutted aren't they?

Kyle Gasner (San Diego)

If Eddie Lacy, Xavier Rhodes, and Bjoern Woerner were all on the board when the Broncos pick at #28, who would they choose?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Great question. Can make an arguement for all three. if they like Werner. Id' take him. But I like Lacy a lot, too.

McNutty (Seattle)

How much does Denver like their current TEs? Any chance of them drafting Austin Seferian-Jenkins next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

They like them, but they are good fits. But they are just average guys, so I think Denver could look for an upgrade. But they have Virgil Green and Julius Thomas .They still have hope for them.

Michael Murphy (Thornton, CO)

Do you see the Broncos cutting Chris Kuper and his contract before the Season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I'd think so. Where would he fit. They may be waiitng for him to get healthy.

4everbronco (miami)

what are the chances denver selects tank carradine with their first pick?i think he has potential.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I like him. I think he can be a stud in the NFL. I'd look at him.

Mitch (Oregon) [via mobile]

Do you think Dion Jordan would be a good fit in Oakland (4-3 or 3-4)? Do you think he falls past Jacksonville?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

He could be a strong choice.

Dan A. (Rochester, NY)

Can we start calling Raiders-Jags the game this year the Clowney Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Jets could be in that mix as well.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, take care, BW.
