Chat with Jamison Hensley

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:01 PM)

Thanks for stopping by for this week's relocated chat. I'll be here for a half-hour (there really is no requirement for length of time). Let's get started.

Carlos (Hobbs, NM)

With all these vets getting released by the ravens, are there anymore players that u see the ravens cutting??

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:02 PM)

If the Ravens need more cap room, they will approach fullback Vonta Leach about taking a pay cut. He is due to make $3 million this year. It could lead to his release.

Bryant (Akron)

I'm upset to see the browns not bringing back Josh Cribbs or Phil Dawson what do you think was the main reasoning behind the decisions especially Cribbs?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:03 PM)

New regime wants to get fresh start. Dawson and Cribbs have been the faces associated with Browns since their return to the NFL. Also, the Browns wanted to get a younger kicker and they have a replacement for Cribbs in Travis Benjamin.

Quammy (Cincinnati, OH)

Jame-o, given the current uncertainty at the Bengals safety position, courtesy of Taylor May looking like a chicken with his head cut off in coverage, what are the possibilities/interest the Bengals have in Charles Woodson? Seems like this free agency has been filled with bargains, and the Bengals love bargains.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:05 PM)

Don't see this happening. I get the feeling the Bengals would turn to Chris Crocker again if they can't draft a starting safety.

Joe Routson (Monroe, OH)

Is there any chance the Browns pick up a starting CB, ILB, or Safety before the Draft via Free agency or trade?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:07 PM)

There is no corner out there right now. You want Quentin Jammer? I don't see the Browns making any more moves before the draft. If they don't address these spots, they can still go with Robertson at ILB and either Gipson or Hagg at safety.

Adam (Erie, PA)

J, do the Browns stay at 6 if the Lions take Milliner? My gut says they'll trade down if possible. What do you think? And who are the realistic draft-day trade partners? Thanks

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:09 PM)

The problem is finding a trade partner. No one is going to want to jump up to No. 6 because there's no prospect that is coveted that much.

Brian (Valley Forge, PA )

Jamison, do you see the Browns taking Ziggy Ansah if he falls to them? How likely is a trade down for the Brownies if Geno Smith is still on the board when they pick?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:10 PM)

Ansah has to be on the Browns' short list. He has great potential. But there is risk involved with him because he's only played three years of football.

Ryan (Salt Lake City)

Glad to hear there's more fun stuff with the blog this fall! Back to draft talk though, with Vaccaro probably gone by 21, do you see the Bengals targeting a safety like Elam or Cyprien? Is it worth the risk of not having a choice of the two that will be there at 37?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:11 PM)

It would be a reach to take Elam or Cyprien at No. 21. One of them should be there at No. 37 when the Bengals draft again. The Bengals can take a WR or right tackle at No. 21.

BeTheBallDanny [via mobile]

Hey Jamison! Given the Ravens specific position needs and that they have an abundance of draft picks, do you see any chance that they trade up to get a top prospect?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:12 PM)

History says Ravens are more likely to trade back than up. The Ravens should get a targeted prospect at No. 32 whether it's a WR or safety. Don't see them moving up.

calvin (tucson, az)

What is the honest truth about the Ravens releasing Bernard Pollard? He played hurt and deserved better.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:14 PM)

You can't totally rule out that Pollard was a vocal and influential leader in the locker room. But you can't say that was the sole reason. Pollard was a hard hitter but had trouble in coverage. In this league, where teams are passing more and more, you need a more well-rounded safety.

Duron, Columbus [via mobile]

Jameson, thanks for all the work. I know it's probably getting old, but any update on the Bengals resigning Andre Smith? Thanks.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:15 PM)

When I talked this week to head coach Marvin Lewis, he sounded pretty optimistic that it would get done before the draft.

Darrell (Dallas Tx)

Which need is Bigger for the Browns with no second round pick, FS or CB? They need both.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:16 PM)

Corner. At safety, they can plug in Gipson or Hagg. Having Skrine at corner is a scary thought.

Mike (Northampton)

I'm getting a feeling that Browns will trade down from the 6th pick. What do you think?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:18 PM)

I think Browns stay. Once again, why would a team want to trade up in a draft where a lot of the prospects have received comparable grades? Maybe I'm missing something.

Jason (Santa Monica)

The Steelers must see something in Ta'amu if they are still keeping him around. Any chance you see him starting at DT and McClendon moving to Hood's spot at DE? Ta'amu was considered a top 3 DT in the draft last year

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:19 PM)

There is no chance that Ta'amu is a starter this year. He didn't even get on the field last year. The Steelers will start McLendon this year and have to determine whether they want to invest in him or go with Ta'amu in 2014.

Black Stallion (Cleveland, OHIO)

So JH, last August you said that you have better hair than Troy Polamalu. So here's my question, who has the better haircut, you or Kim Jong-un?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:20 PM)

I'll defer to the guy with nuclear weapons.

Frank (LEBANON)

I SWEAR I STAY UP LATE AT NIGHT HERE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WAITING FOR THESE CHATS YOU DO... DO IT MORE OFTEN... we dont get enough RAVENS talk here in lebanon

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:21 PM)

I wish I had more time to do this. I'm glad you enjoy the chats and the blog. Take care over there.

Michael (Cincinnati) [via mobile]

Offensive tackle hungry teams wanting to get in front of Arizona. SD, Miami...

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:21 PM)

Do you think they want Lane Johnson that bad?

James,nc [via mobile]

Hi jamison.whats the thing about e.lacy that make people say he is not a good first rd pick.i would luv to see him in steeler uniform.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:23 PM)

Lacy lacks the speed that you want for a playmaking running back. He runs tough and has good balance. But Lacy isn't dynamic. He's sort of a poor man's Frank Gore.

Anthony (Cleveland)

Do you see Clint Boling being the Bengals starting guard this year? I wish I could have seen Wharton healthy last year because I think he would have been better. If he is healthy, will he win the spot back?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:24 PM)

I believe they will compete for the LG spot. Boling did well last year, though.

Danny sc [via mobile]

Do you think the recent moves by the bengals at the quarterback position were designed to send a message to Andy dalton ? That this is his make or break year ?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:25 PM)

If either John Skelton or Josh Johnson is a threat to Dalton, the Bengals are in trouble. Big trouble.

Corey (D.C.)

Wow its 3:23pm and youre still going. Usually you cut out really early while your fellow ESPN bloggers routinely put in a full hour. Just sayin...

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:26 PM)

I'm not required to do chats. Just saying.

Frank (LEBANON)

have you heard anything about james harrison?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:26 PM)

Just the sound of crickets.

Connor (Cincy OH)

Turn of events! Bengals have Jarvis Jones and Kenny Vaccaro available at 21. Who do they choose?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:27 PM)

I would go with Vaccaro. Bigger need and safer pick. But you can make a strong argument for Jones.

Frank (LEBANON)

JH TELL COREY IF HE DOESNT LIKE IT TO NOT COME ON ANYMORE

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:27 PM)

I will let you do that.

Rob (Pasadena MD)

What are your thoughts on Brandon Lloyd as a replacement for Boldin for the Ravens?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:29 PM)

Maybe he comes into play after the draft. The Ravens have never had much success with FA wide receivers. I think they'll try to find someone in the draft.

SCOTT (THE BURG)

JONES WONT MAKE IT PAST 17

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:29 PM)

You're probably right.

JP (OH)

Kiper seems to think that Miami and San Diego will jump up to 6 for an OT

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:31 PM)

I just don't see it. Is there that much of a difference between Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson?

Pat (Jersey)

you are missing something to the browns possibly trading back if there is a team who does need a OL willing to trade up to 6. The browns don't have a 2nd rd pick & if they trade back they can possibly score that teams 2nd rounder if a team wants fisher before arz picks @ 7

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:33 PM)

Is a second-round pick worth passing on Jordan, Ansah or Milliner? I'm not sure.

Michael (Dallas)

Odds of Sheard experiment succeeding?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:34 PM)

He wasn't receptive at first. That's not a good sign.

ag (bethesda, MD)

Tavon Austin worked out with the Ravens. What do you think that means?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:36 PM)

They want to take notes on him once he hits FA in 2017. No way Ravens get close to picking him in the draft.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN)
  (3:37 PM)

Thanks for all of the questions. I am taking next week off before returning to go into full draft mode. Remember the all-important preseason skeds are released at 4 p.m. I will have them posted on the blog. Take care and talk to you in a couple of weeks.
