Just need a few minutes to finish a Jessamen Dunker transferring story and then I'll get right to your questions.
OK, let's get going .....
Are there any promising tight end prospects for the next recruiting cycle? Is this the year for Andre Debose to shine...?
Chris -- The Gators have offers out on nine TEs, including one that's committed to Georgia (Jeb Blazevich) and one that's committed to Michigan (Ian Bunting). As for Debose, I don't think we're going to see much of him. He hasn't figured out how to be more consistent in four years, so it's not likely he's going to figure it out now.
Any chance we incorporate Matt Jones in the passing game a whole lot more?
Chris -- I think the backs will be more involved, mainly as dump-off options. Jones has good hands I expect him to also get some screen work and flare passes as well.
Any news on Jessamin Dunker?
Chris -- Just quickly finished the story about his transfer. It'll be up on the site shortly.
Which recruit in your opinion is the gators highest priority?
Joe -- Making sure they keep Will Grier. That's the No. 1 priority because the situation at quarterback is tenuous. Don't think he's going to bolt, but you never know. As for uncommitted guys, I think landing Lorenzo Carter (who will play the buck) is critical.
With the addition of Joker Phillips, and some new receivers, do you think that Pease will open the offence up and throw more?
Steve -- It depends on whether the WRs improve at all. If several develop, then yes. If they don't, then it'll be more ground-and-pound like it was last season.
Hey Mike. With the playoffs coming in 2014, will Florida and Miami schedule each other more often?
Marlon -- Nope. Don't see that series resuming at all. UF has a sked formula and it doesn't include losing a home game every other year like they already do with FSU. The only way these teams will meet from now on will be in the playoffs.
Who has the best chance of beating Alabama in the SEC this year? If Florida and Alabama won their divisions, how would Florida match up this time around against Bama?
Marlon -- Well, Texas A&M gave Bama fits last year with Manziel, so that's a team (even though they lost a bunch of talent) that could hurt the Tide in the Western Division. It's either UF/UGA in the Eastern Division. Bama's offense will be pretty darn good in the fall, but I think UF's defense will be, too. It all boils down to how the passing game develops. If it's the same as last year, then UF won't win.
Will Gideon Ajagbe see any meaningful playing time at fullback this year (barring an injury to Hunter Joyer of course)?
Marlon -- Yes, because they are trying to rest Joyer to keep him as fresh as possible and minimize injury risk. They want to get him off the field more and Ajagbe seems like he can do the job blocking. Have to see how he does against live competition, but so far he's been encouraging.
How many of the incoming freshman WR will we red shirt?
Brandon -- That depends on how the upperclassmen do. If they continue to struggle, then it's possible that four WRs will play. Otherwise, I think the Gators would rather have two or three play and redshirt the others. Robinson will play, and I expect Fulwood to as well.
Hey Mike. If you could pick one non-conference opponent to play, who would you choose? Why would you choose this opponent?
Marlon -- Somebody that they haven't played or have rarely played -- like Texas or USC. I'd probably pick Texas right now because of the Muschamp/Mack Brown storyline.
Why didn't Mike Gillislee redshirt at Florida? Demps, Rainey, and Moody were ahead of him his first two years in 09 and 2010. Also, after watching him play well in 2012, why didn't he earn more carries in 2011? He was a big, tough, physical back Muschamp wants. Plus, Demps missed time with an injury as well that year.
Marlon -- He was good enough to earn carries and that's why he played. The depth at RB wasn't great and Moody was always hurt. Muschamp admitted he should have gotten Gillislee more carries in 2011, but remember, the OL wasn't that great, either.
When Muschamp was hired, I'm assuming Foley wanted a physical, pro-style offense similar to Alabama. But, given Florida's success in the spread and fun and gun offenses the past couple of decades, it seems Florida has thrived on (for lack of a better word) "gimicky" offenses. Plus, most of the teams that Saban has trouble with are spread teams.
Marlon -- Well, the reason those offenses were so good wasn't the scheme. It was the players. So if UF gets talented, NFL-caliber players on offense again, the Gators will compete with Bama. They've got one in Matt Jones for sure.
Why don't the Gators put the ball in Trey Burtons hands more often? I don't like them using him for just the wild cat because every team knows what is about to happen.. He always makes big plays
Josh -- Burton accounts for the majority of his yardage and big plays against bad teams. He hasn't done much against FSU, Bama or Georgia in his career. In reality, he shouldn't be an offensive weapon because the Gators should have more explosive playmakers. But he does excel at the wildcat. Very smart player and a good locker room guy.
Who does Sony Michel choose on Fri in your opinion
Brandon -- Georgia or Notre Dame. Would be huge for Brian Kelly to land him.
When will the Gators have some more night games???
Josh -- Fans love night games. Writers hate them. However, I think UF will play some night games this year: LSU and Miami are probably locks for night games. The rest depends on the other games and which network chooses first.
How good do you think our defense can be in 2013?
Ethan -- I think the unit has a chance to be as good or better than last year. No big playmaker at safety, but the Gators do have experienced guys like Riggs and Watkins who can be solid back there and won't give up big plays. LBs are a question, but there's some talent, especially if Powell returns completely healthy. I think UF will be able to rush the passer better than they have since the 2008 title team.
What do you make out of Mack Brown getting separation from Kelvin Taylor as 2nd running back? Honestly didn't expect that happening
Diego -- I didn't either, but it just shows you how important it is for backs to know how to pass block and completely understand the offense. Brown does and Taylor doesn't -- yet.
Heard today that Mack brown is now the solid #2 behind Jones at RB... Does this mean Kelvin Taylor takes a redshirt this year?
Roy -- No. I'm sure that Taylor will get some carries. Need to have more than two RBs.
Will our O line be better or worse than last year?
Pookie -- I believe it'll be better, especially on the left side. James Wilson was solid at LG but he was limited because of his knees. Max Garcia is an upgrade there. DJ Humphries is a huge upgrade over Xavier Nixon. Like going from dating Rosie O'Donnell to Kate Upton upgrade.
With Dunker transferring that will give us another scholarship. Have you heard of anybody looking to transfer to UF or will we hang on that ship and use it for the 2014 class?
David -- Haven't heard anything about anyone considering UF yet, but still long way to go and some schools are still in spring ball. Might be better to hang onto it for next year's signing class since it'll be so small, but if someone worthy is available Muschamp will use it.
will Kelvin taylor start his sophmore year or will matt jones still be the starter?
Nick -- It depends on how this season goes and Taylor's development, but right now I can tell you that the staff believes that Matt Jones will be a beast in 2013. If that's the case, then I don't see Taylor surpassing him in 2014.
Where will Dunker transfer to? Or which schools are on his list?
Marlon -- They haven't hashed that out yet and Muschamp said they will still talk about destination.
Which incoming WR will make an impacted this year at florida...
Gustavus -- The one with the best chance is Demarcus Robinson because he enrolled early and participated in spring practice. That's a huge help in terms of learning the offense and adjusting to the speed of the game. My next pick would be Ahmad Fulwood.
How optimistic are you about the 2013 season? Any particular fact that should have us all excited?
Diego -- I think 10 wins is not out of the question, but it all depends on how much the offense improves. Fans should be excited about the potential of the pass rush (which should be really good) and Matt Jones. The staff is convinced he's going to be an absolute beast.
MD, Do you think we will be a top 5 recruiting class for 2014 cycle ?
Ram -- Absolutely. Already No. 2 in our first rankings. Muschamp has established himself as one of the nation's top recruiters. Won't be a big class, but it'll fill needs and UF can afford to be more selective.
I was watching over some of the games from this past season and I noticed once again we had penalties that just killed us and momentum all the time. how do you feel about the discipline level this coming year?
Jason -- I'm assuming you're talking about the offensive penalties. I expect those to drop because the players have a year under their belt in the system so there should be fewer illegal motion, false start, and not enough men on the line of scrimmage penalties.
Hey, Mike which Tight End would be starting after fall camp , Or would they use multi TE's....
Guustavus -- Clay Burton is atop the depth chart there right now and I expect that to hold throughout fall camp. He was the most consistent in the spring, although he still struggled at times. UF will use multiple TEs at times but it won't be like the New England Patriots using Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
Mike, so, truth, did you get to see E:60 last night about Spice. We all know that weed is an issue, or at least has been in the past. Is Spice rumored to be used a lot by our mighty Gators?
Ry-dog -- Haven't heard any rumors that it's rampant or a problem. I'm sure it gets used, just like marijuana does.
Are we going hard after any big time backs to go along with cook, assuming that we don't get Sony because from what I heard we have no shot
Gabe -- UF is still going after Fournette and have offers out to 15 backs (including Cook).
Are there any receivers besides the freshman that should better this year?
Chris -- Well, to be honest, they all should be better, but I get your question. I think Dunbar, after a year in the system, will be more consistent. But I wonder about his hands. The guys with the biggest upside are Pittman and Andrades.
I have high hopes for Kent Taylor in the passing game, do you think he delivers? Is Collin Thompson still hurt?
Chris -- The staff isn't happy about Taylor's physicality and strength (read: toughness), so he has to get better there. But he is an intriguing player because he can be a matchup problem. How do you cover him if you're a defense? Use a LB or S? Personally, I think they should make him a slot receiver.
Hey, Mike what's the plan Ronald Powell this how will the use him....And will Powell and Fowler be on the field at the same time...
Guustavus -- The plan is for Powell to start at strongside linebacker and Fowler at buck so they both can be on the field at the same time. I think both of them rushing from the same side will create havoc.
I know this isnt a Gator question but what will it take for Ole Miss yr in and yr out to be a national championship contender? As on Ole Miss fan it seems like everything is in place to be a perrenial top 5 team
Adrian -- I don't normally answer questions about other teams because my knowledge of them isn't as complete as it is about UF, but I'll say this: Ole Miss will have to get past Bama first. To do that, you've got to build a phenomenal defense and be mistake-free and explosive on offense. And then do that over and over and over and over again -- because Bama is going to.
That's it everyone. Wanted to thank you for your patience early while I finished the Dunker story. We'll do it again next week.
