Chat with Sean Adams

Issac (Oakland)

Which recently drafted & un-drafted longhorns have the best chance at success in their Rookie year?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:02 PM)

I think it is Vacarro and it's not even close. New Orleans had a glaring need not only for a safety but for defensive playmakers and he will fill that role well. He can go right in and help develop an attitude on defense.

Issac (Oakland)

First thought that comes to mind when you read or hear. "Texas will win 10+ games next year" ?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:04 PM)

The schedule tells me that the opportunity is there. They have the most experienced QB returning in the Big 12, they have the running game, should have the defensive line and has the best 1 - 85 roster in the conference.

caleb Pettis (Rice, Germany)

Who has better potential Tyrone Swoopes or Jerrod Heard?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:07 PM)

This sounds so cliche but it's too early to tell. Heard would probably be viewed as the most polished right now but there is a lot of work to be done before ether see the field. Swoopes played better this spring that most thought he would.

Pete Medina (Lafayette, La)

Can David Ash lead Texas back to the BCS glory days? Should McCoy have been given more of a shot as the leader? Overstreet, Brewer, and or Swoopes who's next in line out of these three talented young QBs

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:12 PM)

David Ash is this teams best shot to get to the BCS in 2013. When you mention glory days, I see teams like 2008 that beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl and was one of the best teams it he country. Glory days is strong.

gary (stillwater)

What kind of season are you expecting from Adrian Phillips? Do you think any of the receivers not named Davis or Shipley will step up and play a significant role this year? There didn't seem to be much talk about Jordan Hicks this spring, how much does his return mean to the D? Thanks Sean!

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:19 PM)

I expect Adrian to have a huge season. Being able to have a spring and a fall where he is hitting going into the season would be huge for him. I think he has a really good year and it couldn't happen to nicer kid. I'll throw the same old name out there that I always do in John Harris. I also think Hicks will be great for the defense and he will probably lead the team in tackles in 2013.

David (Sugar Land)

What are the odds we see Swoopes on the filed next season?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:24 PM)

I'd say the odds are at 30% even though I'd like them to be zero. Ash still has a senior year after this year so they don't have to press the issue.

Bryan (Kyle, TX)

What's your personal take on the the Horns moving to an "Up-Tempo," offense? Do you think they are up for the task?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:28 PM)

I have never thought that the tempo change was as big as people make it out to be. Schools around the country have done this for years. It just has to be taught and practiced and it can be an effective strategy to test a defense and increase the offensive play count.

Jonas (Sc)

had the privilege of meeting you in Austin Sean, quick question, will the fans get to see Swoopes surpass McCoy as the backup under Ash or will we be tortured with interceptions and turnovers? Will Mack let Swoopes loose? What about Overstreet?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:33 PM)

Obviously we have not heard about the exploits of Overstreet other than his physical nature so that leads to me to conclude that he ma not be ready to contribute in 2013 in a huge way. The other thing is that if Ash goes down for any extended amount of time, we all should probably recognize that things are going to be tough. Nobody is as prepared to lead this team on the level Ash is.

Stephen (Seattle, WA)

Which freshmen (if any) do you see coming in and having a legitimate chance at getting PT, possibly starting this coming year?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:39 PM)

I'll take a guy on each side of the ball. On offense I'll go with Antwuan Davis. He is athletic enough and big enough to play on the corner and Akina might be the best coach at that position in the country. On the OL I'll go with Darius James on the interior of the offensive line. He, too, has the size and strength to contribute early at a need position for Texas.

Do u think the longhorns will eventually join the sec after the playoffs have run their course? Or do u think they'll stay in the weak big 12?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:42 PM)

With the granting of rights already in play in the Big 12 and other conferences, I suggest all fans get used to the fact that the conferences are going to be the way they are for the near and not so near future. BTW, it was just a few years ago when the Big 12 had 5 teams in the Top 25 and only one of the teams tat left the conference.

Derrin (Plano, TX)

Do you think Alex Okafor can/will excel as a 3-4 OLB in the NFL?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:45 PM)

That's a huge question for me and I go back and forth on that one. It will be a change because we have not seen his in space a lot. I thin he is much more suited for a 4 - 3 but what do I know?

Eric (Huntsville, Al)

Prediction Time!1. Number of wins2. Number of quarterbacks who get a start (not due to injury)3. Number of times Akina has to keep himself from strangling Mack whenever he reads another headline about Manziel

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:47 PM)

1. 10 wins and I want to say 9.5. 2. One quarterback will start and if more than one does I retain the right to change question one. 3. LOL that was funny

Gabe (round rock)

What are your thoughts? Bob Shipley as the new member of the UT coaching staff. Can you imagine if it was Brad McCoy. Wow that would have been scary.

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:50 PM)

Let me stay on the positive side of that -- I love the hire of Bob Shipley. Everything that he has done in his career up to now will come to bear from a football perspective and he deeply cares about developing men. I thought is was a fantastic hire and probably one more in line with what I thought they would do when they announced the positions.

Adrian (Austin)

Any sign that VY will be playing ball next year?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:52 PM)

BJ Daniels from South Florida was drafted. With he and a few dozen other guys thrown into the mix and he still is not signed does not look good for VY being on an NFL roster come fall. I hope I'm wrong.

giovanni (210) [via mobile]

Hey sean, how u doin? Love your work do u think the horns can win the conference this year?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:53 PM)

Thank you for the words and yes I think they can. I think the conference comes down to Texas, Oklahoma State and TCU. Of course for Texas, how they play in Dallas against will tell you a lot about how the season will turn out.

West (Katy, TX)

Within the next 3-5 years, do you see the Longhorns back at a powerhouse level like the Vince Young/Colt McCoy days?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (1:55 PM)

That's a tall order but it is possible. The better question might be if this current regime will be the staff to get them there. Recruiting and players mean a lot. Securing 25 really good players every year will determine lot of that.

Daniel (Fort Worth, TX) [via mobile]

Hey Sean. I know Texas isn't hurting for recruits, but their recruiting is definitely hurting. The Horns missed out on much of the top in state talent in 2013 and appear to be on their way to doing the same in 2014. Worse, out of state powers are poaching these players (Alabama - Robinson, Smith, possibly Tony Brown; tOSU - Wilson, possibly Knox). If Texas can't keep home grown talent at home, I see this trend of mediocrity on the field continuing. Is winning the only remedy, and can Mack/DeLoss deliver?

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (2:00 PM)

With 400 kids per year being signed out of the state of Texas, you have to expect other schools to come in state. The team that won the BCS title over USC did not have two huge recruits that went out of state in Rhett Bomar and Adrian Peterson. Texas will win some and lose some. Have the lost some momentum? Yes they have but they can get it back with wins. It' the only thing that matters.

Sean Adams, HornsNation
  (2:00 PM)

Thanks for joining. Have a good week.
