Thanks for stopping by for the chat. I will answer as many questions as possible over the next half hour. Hope you enjoy.
When does the Steelers,Browns,Bengals & Ravens Rookie Mini Camp Starts?
Ravens and Steelers had theirs last weekend. Bengals and Browns hold theirs starting Friday. Must be an Ohio thing.
Would the Steelers have been better served signing James Harrison at a reduced salary and drafting the ND TE in the first round?
Interesting question. I'm not sure the Steelers pass on Jarvis Jones even with James Harrison on the roster. If he had agreed to a pay cut, this would've been his last year in Pittsburgh. I don't think Steelers take Eifert unless Jones is off the board.
John Simon is an incredible player with great intangibles but dropped in the draft due to measureables (too short for a DE, too big for an LB). Where do you see him fitting into Baltimore's scheme and how much playing time would you expect him to see this year?
Simon will only get on the field for special teams this year. The Ravens are two-deep at both outside linebacker spots with Suggs-McPhee at rush linebacker and Dumervil-Upshaw on the right side. I still think Simon has a future in this league.
Are the Browns just snakebit? Seems like no matter what they try to do it turns out bad. Bad draft, bad coaching and now an owner who casts a pall over the team. What next?
I'll admit the FBI probe with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is a big concern. But I thought the Browns made the right first-round pick in the draft with Mingo and I like the coordinators they brought in with Norv Turner and Ray Horton. So, it's not all bad.
Should the Bengals have addressed safety earlier in the draft?
I've said this for the past two years.
Will this be the year the Bengals go deep in the playoffs?
I will sound like a broken record. It depends on Andy Dalton.
Can you explain why you think Jarvis Jones has little to no upside?
That was the assessment of Steve Muench of Scouts, Inc., who breaks down more film than any of us. Until I get to see Jones on a regular basis, I trust Muench's assessment that Jones may have maxed out and Mingo is just scratching the surface. I have never considered myself on the same level as the draft experts at ESPN.
Hello Jamison, I enjoy the blog. Last year Cincy drafted a 2nd round lineman who some projected to be a first rounder in Devin Still. What do you think his role will be in the rotation this season?
Still will be the top backup for Geno Atkins. He's the reason why Pat Sims was no longer needed.
Which current NFL player do you compare Bengals first round pick Tyler Eifert to?
I have heard a more athletic Heath Miller. I also saw someone compare him to Greg Olsen.
Jamison, love the work. What can Steelers fan realistically expect from this year's crop of rookies? Jones for DROY?
Jones is my favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. I believe Bell will be the starting running back for the Steelers. It may not be the season opener but he'll have that job by October. Third-round WR Markus Wheaton has a chance to be the No. 3 WR by season's end.
Why dont free agents want to come to Cleveland? Is it the city?,weather?,losing team for so long?,front office?.
Not sure if free agents have really spurned the Browns. I think it's more a case of the Browns not going after free agents.
Top-10 rusher this year if he remains healthy.
What do think the Ravens will do with Rolando McClain? And what will the ravens do with No. 2 wide reciever is it trade or is he on our roster?
If the Ravens keep McClain past his July court date, it looks like they will hold onto him until they feel that Arthur Brown can start. As far as the No. 2 WR, it looks like Jacoby Jones and Tandon Doss are the front-runners right now.
What have you heard about Dre Kirkpatrick this offseason?
Will compete with Terence Newman for starting job. That is, if he's healthy.
Jamison, please tell my crazy, biased Bengals fan friend that Big Ben is not out of his prime. This dude truly thinks Ben is done, has only been average and has 2 years, tops, left of his career; injury or no injury. He feels Landry Jones was drafted take over as the starter. I feel like Ben is in his prime, and free from injury, there is no need to think he can't play until he is 35-37 range.
Roethlisberger is definitely in his prime. He threw 17 touchdowns and four interceptions in the first nine games before getting injured. It's optimistic to think he will last as long as Peyton Manning considering the amount of hits he's taken. But Roethlisberger is far from done.
This one may take some thought, but if each AFC North team could "draft" one player from just one of the other three AFC North teams, who would take who?
Hmmm ... Off the top of my head, here it goes (and I won't repeat players). Ravens: A.J. Green, Lawrence Timmons, Alex Mack. Bengals: Terrell Suggs, Troy Polamalu, Trent Richardson. Steelers: Ray Rice, Joe Thomas, Geno Atkins.
The Benals have an awfully crowded backfield. How do you see it shaking out on the foal 53? Practice squad? #boomherron
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Giovani Bernard and Cedric Peerman.
Jamison, next year's draft is reputed to have several possible franchise QBs. Are the Browns stockpiling picks to make a move up? And how would that look if Brandon Weeden is able to make significant progress in year 2?
I really doubt the Browns are thinking about moving up for a QB in 2014 right now. With the FBI investigating Haslam, there's no guarantees that this front office will be around next season.
Jamison, do you think DeCastro will be 100% and have a real impact this season in both the running and passing game for Pittsburgh?
I believe so. DeCastro really benefited from that new rule that allowed him to come back and play at the end of the season. That should help him going into 2013. There would be more questions about DeCastro if he hadn't played at all last year.
You left the Browns out of your answer to Todd up there.
Sorry about that. Browns: Roethlisberger, Torrey Smith and Kevin Zeitler.
JH, long time no talk. I am very excited about wheaton. I watched him play several times in college. He is a mike wallace type who can run routes and catch the ball. What you think? I really think he will make steelers forget about wallace.
The progression of Wheaton will factor in what the Steelers do with Sanders. If the Steelers see some flashes out of Wheaton, they may be more apt to let Sanders go in free agency. That's been the Steelers way -- reloading at wide receiver through the draft.
An NFL.COM writer had Ray Rice has the league's 9th best rusher behind the likes of Alfred Morris and Doug Martin...thoughts?
If it's based solely on rushing, I could see that. But Rice is more valuable than those backs in terms of total yards because he can make so many plays in the passing game.
Where does Mike Adams fit into the Steelers O-Line this season?
He likely will get first crack at being the left tackle. If not, he'll start on the right side.
Ever get tired of all the homer accusations?
You hear it so much that you really do laugh about it now. It's funny that Steelers fans think I favor the Ravens, and Ravens fans think I kiss up to the Steelers. I never knew people spent so much time thinking about me. Guess I should be flattered.
JH cant be a homer..he had the Ravens not making the playoffs last year! HA!
That just makes me a bad at predictions.
Hey JH, Ozzie says he'd like a vet wideout on the roster. Who might be potential targets?
I still see the Ravens waiting on making a move. They'll want to give the young guys a chance before doing something. Remember how they acquired Lee Evans late. I can see something like that if they're worried about the WR group.
How many Big Ben jokes do you think will be made during the game when the Steelers and Vikings play in London this year, plus or minus 10?
I would put a large wager on over.
He also pegged the Steelers OL as the best in the NFL...
Hard to evaluate an offensive line when three young starters miss so much time.
So I know Montario Hardesty has been a big disappointment, but he was solid last season when filling in for Richardson either when he was hurt or when he was taking a breather- he averaged 4.2 yards/carry last season on 65 carries. It was my first time watching Hardesty actually thinking he was healthy, which was a big step. It was a limited sample size, but I think it would've been worth noting in the RB rankings. Do you think he's a viable backup RB?
Hardesty will be the top backup to Richardson this year. Not sure if he's in the team's long-term plans, though.
Is Joe Thomas a future Hall of Famer?
As long as he continues on this path, I would say definitely.
JH, do you believe Big Ben will have a completely healthy season this year?
As previously pointed out today, I'm very bad a predictions.
Thanks for all the great questions, especially when it's a dead period in the NFL right now. I will chat with you next week. Take care and have a great rest of the week.
