Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

Ohm
  (3:02 PM)

Hey guys, sorry for delaying chat. Car trouble. Sigh.

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks!

Ohm
  (3:02 PM)

Harris and Payne back = Preseason top 3 and Final Four run next March.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

When does the Giants Rookie Mini-Camp Start?

Ohm
  (3:03 PM)

Starts on Friday and media has availability on Friday and Saturday.

LL (MI)

Well, at least we'll have a guard in the top 5 of the NBA draft, what say you and those clowns at E.L.???Losers!!!

Ohm
  (3:04 PM)

I'm not so sure Trey will go top five. And it's about time Michigan basketball players starting making the pros again. MSU has been stocking them for a long time. You can have your lottery pick if Burke goes in lottery. I'll take Final Four, for like the 7th time in the Izzo era, next year.

jim va.beach [via mobile]

Hey ohm.what's your opinion of kipers draft grade? Also, shouldn't he know jerry and the team don't put that much stock in the LB position during the draft process? That suprised me. Thanks.

Ohm
  (3:06 PM)

Wait? What? Jim is actually a Giants fan who ISN'T complaining about the linebacker position and how the Giants didn't draft one? LOL! I gave the Giants a B for their draft. I would've liked to have seen them come out with a CB but this is how the Giants operate and I think they got some value and they clearly are playing a premium on the defensive and offensive line.

Rich (New Jersey)

Hi Ohm, Will the Giants go with 2 or 3 QB's this year with the drafting of Ryan Nassib, will Carson Palmer or Curtis Palmer be let go or packaged in a deal for a player[s] or draft choice[s]?

Ohm
  (3:07 PM)

Rich, in my mind I think they got to go with three QBs... because they probably need that veteran in David Carr to backup Eli until Nassib is ready. A little too risky to go with Nassib as the only backup right now in my mind. Let him learn from Eli and Carr.

The Unit (Southold, NY)

With Eli being the least sacked QB in the league, why fortify the offensive line in the draft?

Ohm
  (3:09 PM)

Don't just think about this year. Think about next year and year after that. Diehl and Boothe are on one-year deals. They'll need a starter next year. Also, for this year, they need depth. Baas and Snee are coming off offseason surgeries and are not getting any younger. And what if somebody gets hurt which happens every year. And what happens if Brewer is not the answer at RT? I think it was a huge area of need and they addressed it.

Vinnie (Columbus, OH)

Ohm's Law!!! What's with Reese's fascination with drafting DTs in the 2nd or 3rd round. It's the same thing every year. This year it was, by all accounts I've read, the underachieving, low motor Hankins. You would think there are better ways to spend one of your premium picks than on the same position year after year.

Ohm
  (3:11 PM)

The Giants are sticking with their philosophy that it all starts up front. They want to stop the run and they feel it starts at DT and the defensive line. Linval is a free agent next year. So is Mike Patterson and Shaun Rogers. If Marvin Austin doesn't pan out, that leaves them with Cullen Jenkins and who knows how this season will go with him. As for Hankins underachieving, I'm not so sure about that. I did see him against MSU and he is a massive body inside. OSU's run defense was pretty good.

Alex (Anaheim)

What positions are you most concerned about right now?

Ohm
  (3:12 PM)

Hey Alex, I would say CB depth, linebacker (uncertainty/health/depth), safety and offensive line (age). Running back also remains to be seen but I think they got enough there.

Matt (New York)

What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of the giants this upcoming season?

Ohm
  (3:14 PM)

Strength: I think they got a great QB in Eli, terrific wideouts in Nicks and Cruz, passing game should be on point, offensive line should be good, not dominant but good. Running game... I think they got some weapons but I want to see how they are used and if they will be able to establish the run. Defensively, the defensive line looks solid but they need bounce-back season from the pass rush. Must stop the run. The secondary also needs a bounce back season. If Corey Webster struggles again that will hurt.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Which Players who just got selected in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Giants will Play on Opening Day?

Ohm
  (3:15 PM)

My guess is Moore and Taylor may play on special teams. Perhaps Pugh gets a snap in as extra blocker. Hankins maybe on a big jumbo package but I think you may only see Moore and Taylor on special teams. But there's a long long way to go before then.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Can the New York Giants afford to pay Both Wide Receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks in future seasons?

Ohm
  (3:17 PM)

They can afford the price they want to pay them at. Depends on what Nicks and Cruz are willing to take. And if Nicks doesn't sign an extension before season or during season, then we have to see what kind of year he has. If he has a big one, price goes up.

Alex (Tucson)

Kiwi back to the line full time finally?

Ohm
  (3:21 PM)

Sorry got bounced offline... Not officially but that is the expectation. I can't see how they don't put him full time as the third defensive end but still use him as a guy who can rush with hand in dirt or standing up.

Cory (Portsmouth,VA )

Any word on Cribbs??

Ohm
  (3:22 PM)

Not yet Cory. Will check as soon as I get off this chat.

Nick (Little Falls, NJ)

Do you think there's a legitimate possibility Cribbs signs with NYG?

Ohm
  (3:23 PM)

Sure, why not? If he came to visit there is a mutual interest. Just depends on if the Giants feel he's healthy and if Cribbs feels he can't get more elsewhere or feels he is a better fit somewhere else.

Eric Garcia (New Jersey)

Do you believe that Andrien Robinson is ready to fit the role of starting TE or will Brandon Myers be #1 on the depth chart?

Ohm
  (3:23 PM)

I see Myers as the starter. Unless Robinson is extremely impressive in camp.

Joe (NY)

Speaking of Nicks/Cruz, what's the latest buzz? any word on deals yet?

Ohm
  (3:24 PM)

Nothing new. ProFootballTalk said that the next week to 10 days is important for the Giants and Cruz to get a deal done but there is really no deadline right now. So I'm sure the Giants want Cruz to be at voluntary OTAs these next few weeks but really both sides can keep talking. As for Nicks, haven't heard much.

Eli (NJ)

How bad would the buttfumble have been if Sanchez ran into Kevin Boothe?

Ohm
  (3:25 PM)

Sanchez either would have a serious concussion or Boothe's ample posterior would have cushioned the blow. And I say that with a lot for Boothe, who is a great great dude.

Matt (New York)

Who do you think is going to be the giants starting LB's?

Ohm
  (3:25 PM)

Jacquian, Connor and Rivers on base packages. Then maybe Jacquian and Rivers/Paysinger on 2 LB passing downs with a third safety.

Steve (Virginia)

If Cruz doesn't get a deal, can you see him holding out until week 10 before signing tender, to minimize his injury risk and still qualify for the service year, as Vincent Jackson did a few years back?

Ohm
  (3:26 PM)

I'd be very surprised if that happened. Just knowing Victor and the Giants, I'd be surprised if it turned contentious.

Alex (Tucson)

Do you know anything about Chad Jones and what his status is, not saying he is returning to GMen, just wondering how his recovery is continuing to go!?!

Ohm
  (3:27 PM)

Last I saw he was still rehabbing and trying to make his way back. But no word on him trying out for the Giants again. They got a lot of bodies at safety right now but I am sure they are keeping tabs on Chad.

Steve (NY)

Ohm, we know that A. Curry was in today and had a decent workout. A little rough due to his time away from the game. But, as a former #4 overall pick, who i believe just hasn't been in the right system do Gmen bring him in on 1 year vet min, just to sure up LB depth? because i see him having more potential than any LB we currently have.

Ohm
  (3:27 PM)

If the Giants believe he is healthy and worth the risk of a cheap one-year deal then why not? But he has to be healthy and he also has to be willing to sign here if he has other options.

Skins Fan (MD)

How is Eli going to do this year?

Ohm
  (3:28 PM)

Skins fan from my home state, I think Eli will be better than last year with a healthier Nicks. That will make a big difference.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

Is Jernigan projected to be the third WR this season?

Ohm
  (3:29 PM)

Whoo... a lot of Marylanders today. Nice. Nah, Randle projected as third WR. Jernigan will battle with Louis Murphy for fourth WR unless Randle falters.

Rick (Charlotte, NC)

Huge fan of the Gmen and you OHM. Who do you think is the breakout player on the team this year?

Ohm
  (3:31 PM)

Wow, thanks Slick Rick! Breakout player eh... Hmm... I'll give you a few candidates with big opportunities to break out: Randle, Brewer, Myers, Jacquian, Tracy or Ojomo.

Ohm
  (3:31 PM)

Ojomo and Tracy will get fewer snaps than the others though but a chance to be the fourth DE.

Josh (PA)

Hey Ohm! I know this seems like overkill, but I too don't have a problem with the Giants linebacker situation. Williams is a great cover guy, if Rivers could stay healthy he'll do well and Connor can't be any worse than we've had before. With that said, whats the word on Curry? His potential was immense but it didn't seem tapped into well in Seattle and Oakland. Do you think we're looking into him as depth or a starter?

Ohm
  (3:32 PM)

What???? Nah... no way, a second Giant fan not complaining about the linebacking corps? Come on? Where are all the guys that are so steaming angry with Jerry for not drafting a linebacker? LOL. On Curry, not sure what he has left. Just know that the knee trouble has really limited him. But Giants have nothing to lose by looking at him.

cal (stamford, CT)

Will David Wilson do 20 flips this upcoming season?

Ohm
  (3:33 PM)

Cal, don't see it happening not because of a lack of talent by any means. Wilson is explosive. More because of how many snaps he might get this year and in particular, in the red zone where Andre Brown could get all the goal line carries.

Alex (Tucson)

Thank you for your responses, especially question on Chad Jones, really like hearing about that story. Keep doing what you do Ohm!

Ohm
  (3:33 PM)

Thanks dude. Chad is a good dude. Wish him nothing but the best.

jim va.beach [via mobile]

Last one ohm. Any updates on bradshaw or jacobs?

Ohm
  (3:34 PM)

Last I heard on Bradshaw, he was cleared to resume working out. But I think if anything happens with those two and with the Giants, if at all, it would happen later this summer.

Carl (Staten Island)

What're your thoughts on how the cornerback depth chart will look?

Ohm
  (3:35 PM)

Webster and Prince starters. Ross and Jayron for third CB. If Terrell Thomas returns, he could figure in mix. But Giants need another CB to be 5th CB.

Joe (Da Bronx)

OHM thanks again for your time to answer questions. What are the Giants plans plans at FB? And the way Brown played last year before going down would you put him ahead of Wilson as far as te starter Week one against the Cowboys?

Ohm
  (3:36 PM)

Dude, Hynocerous. He had a strong season last year. They're good at FB. As for Brown vs Wilson, it's up for competition. I will say this, no matter who starts, I see both splitting carries with perhaps Brown getting an edge in number of carries.

Ohm
  (3:36 PM)

Just my gut feeling.

Tyler (Massapequa)

Whats up ohm, the giants have a lot of contracts coming up in the next few years. Who do you think is the player most likely to walk?

Ohm
  (3:37 PM)

Really hard to predict future. But I'm guessing that guys like Diehl and Webster might move on next year. But you never know. But the way the Giants have been moving forward and letting vets go in recent years, it could be somebody like that.

Rick (Charlotte)

Got one more for you. Does Myers have more potential in the passing game than my favorite player last year (The Black Unicorn, aka Marty B)?

Ohm
  (3:39 PM)

I think Unicorn was loaded with potential. But Myers could potentially put up more numbers receiving wise but remember, Giants don't use their TE a whole lot in passing game.

bob (nj)

is austin going to be a player? how many d tackes are they going to keep

Ohm
  (3:42 PM)

I'd like to see Austin and what he can do. But the Giants certainly loaded up at DT like they think they needed help there. I think they end up keeping Jenkins, Joseph, Patterson, Hankins, Austin and maybe Kuhn. But likely 5-6.

Ohm
  (3:42 PM)

Sorry, my security settings keep knocking me offline.

AOK (NJ)

Any future for Herzlich at LB?

Ohm
  (3:43 PM)

Sure. Why not? I think he gets a chance to compete with Connor for MLB.

bob (nj)

rank the following young breakout stars for importance; randle, brewer, jernigan, robinson, austin, hosley, wilson

Ohm
  (3:44 PM)

Wilson, Brewer, Randle as 1a, 1b and 1c. Then Hosley, Jernigan (PR/KR), Austin and Robinson.

Matt (New York)

Whats the chance we see the giants return to the super bowl 42 form this season?

Ohm
  (3:45 PM)

Always possible as long as Eli stays healthy and some of the vets play up to par.

bob (nj)

I thik Wilson 1100 yards, 5 ypc, 8 td's; Under or over

Ohm
  (3:45 PM)

The yardage may be high. I can see 8 TDs.

Steve (NY)

Completely off topic. Knicks chances for title?

Ohm
  (3:47 PM)

Here's my worries about the Knicks -- as talented and well-rounded as they can be, I wonder about the basketball IQ on the team. Kidd is unbelievable in that department. Pablo is great too. But JR and Melo can certainly take bad shots. And then poise. This team loses its cool way too fast from Felton to Melo to JR always bickering with refs. Tyson too. And then after that, you got Woodson. Can Woodson give them the coaching necessary in crunch time when playoff games are on the line to get them far. Coaching becomes so important the further you go into the playoffs. Those are my questions for the Knicks. I think they can hang with the Heat and beat them if all things go right. But I am not sure if all those things can go right.

Ms.Quadirrah (CT)

Will my boo Victor Cruz be on the practice field without a long term deal and what's your take on Cowboys extending Romo, good move or bad move because as a giant fan i believe Romo's extension just guarantees the Cowboys won't win a playoff game for however long he's on the roster. Thanks ohm baby. :-)

Ohm
  (3:49 PM)

Hi Ms. Q. My opinion is your boo will be on the field in training camp at some point, extension or no extension. Just my gut feeling. As for Romo, feel the Boys had to keep him but good Buddha that is a lot of dough. A lot. Which to me means that much pressure on Romo. And you're welcome wifey.

Matt (New York)

Is it crazy for me to say that I would like to see thomas and ross to start at the corners and rolle and prince at saftey? Or maybe put webster at saftey if prince doesn't improve?

Ohm
  (3:50 PM)

Matt... I say this nicely but YES. Thomas... you got to consider that anything he gives the team this year is gravy. He is returning from a third ACL surgery. It's got to be Webster and Prince at the corners and Ross and Hosley as third and fourth CBs. Let Rolle and Brown/Hill/Taylor/Mundy/Sash handle the safety spot.

big sam (Philadelphia )

i am a big fan of cribbs and think curry still has a future in the league what are the chances we sign either one of them?

Ohm
  (3:50 PM)

Depends on how their health checked out with the Giants, and really, if their options are limited so that the Giants can sign them to cheap one-year deals.

Tyler (Massapequa)

Also, Giants are looking pretty good with Wr depth, i dont think people realize how big Louis murphy could be plus reuben randle could show us something this year. Whats your thoughts?

Ohm
  (3:51 PM)

Well, depends. It looks good on paper. But both have to prove it. And so far for Murphy, he hasn't. But Giants feel Eli can make him better. And same goes for Randle.

Ohm
  (3:51 PM)

Alright guys and gals, thanks for the questions this week and sorry for the delay ya'll!
