Great observation Ron. I noticed that stat earlier this week and I was stunned. But it's a long season and I do think things will balance out some in the summer months.
Do you think Danica's lack of performance is the fault of the race cars SHR is putting on the track and do you see Danica taking her sponsorship to JGR maybe?
Danica isn't going anywhere. As for the performance, it's a little of both, but mostly her.
hey terry, assuming kyle races cup until he's 53 like mark martin that would be another 25 seasons and 900 cup starts. do you think rowdy could average 4 wins per season for the next 25 years?
Absolutely not. First, he isn't going to race until he's 53. Second, no one of going to average four wins a year over 25 years.
Do you see Kahne pulling a Gordon on Kyle if they continue to have dust-ups?
No, and he pretty much said that is a blog Newt wrote this week. It's not Kahne's style, but even if it were, there's too much to lose when you're a title contender.
Our theory is that Rowdy, Denny and Joey put in the work testing and developing the Joe Gibbs Racing Gen 6 and that Kenseth is getting a free ride off of their work. Do you think Denny and especially Rowdy have had enough?
Ridiculously. Kenseth has made the 20 a title contender again because he's a much better driver than Joey. And Kyle and Denny love having Matt to bounce things off of.
If Kenseth is so great how come he didn't race like this at Roush Fenway Ford?
Because it wasn't as good a car or team.
Great story today Terry! Why wouldn't you have included Dega and M'ville as tracks to lose dates since they don't sell well. Isn't 1 sold out race better than 2 1/2 full?
yes, and in the long run,. I think most tracks with two races a should only have one. But NASCAR needs to keep as many short tracks as it can on the sked. I realize I said Bristol should lose one, but certainly the sked shouldn't lose two short-track races.
When #2 wrecks Rowdy at the Glen or Gordon vs. Bowyer, most ESPN writers say all this retaliation/payback talk is way overblown so how come when it's retaliation vs. Rowdy suddenly it's a legit topic?

As an old #8 fan and now #18 fan we remember when we called for a new crew chief for Dale everytime he had a bad race. Isn't it time for Coach to making a crew chief change on Rowdy's #18?
I don't think so. Kyle has two wins this season. But I think there still are times when he overdrives the car.
Hey Terry, great story and suggestions today about overhauling the NASCAR sched but isn't an overhaul of drivers also necessary?The same old names year after year in the best cars is whats boring. Why not an age limit like 40 to keep new blood coming into the sport?
Just won't happen. Many drivers still are in their prime around 40. But I agree that an infusion are more young drivers would help things. And they're coming soon _ Larson, the Dillon brothers, Buescher, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, etc.

Good question. I'll say less than 50/50, but he just might pull it off.

No it isn't. That just doesn't happen.
Am I missing something here? All these "get revenge" theories just don't make sense. It's pretty hard to win races if you're not on the track and in the trailer instead. PS. The 206 is stewing re: David Stern.
Preach it Keith, on both counts. Payback is way overrated. And David Stern is the most hated man in the nation among Seattle folks. Yesterday was the height of his lack of caring when the first thing he said after the vote was: "I have to make this short because I have to catch a plane to Oklahoma City. Either he just doesn't know how insensitive that comment is or he did it for spite.

I don't think so. But anything is possible, as he proved when he went or a tear to win the Chase in 2011.

Terry really isn't taking anyone's spot. He races every now and then for teams that have no shot at competing. Bobby probably still could run OK on a better team.

A few, and quite a few that criticize. But it's all good because it shows fans are passionate about him. As the late Dale Sr. used to say, "When you don't hear anything, that's a problem."
Loved your article today on the Chase schedule and would LOVE to see the season ender in Las Vegas. You mentioned the drawback would be that the teams would either have to leave and come back, or stay for two weeks. What if Nascar's championship activities started the next day - just roll it all together? I'd show up for all that!
I think NASCAR wants more time to build up the awards ceremony. But having it the following Friday night would work for me.
This is the first year that I have not watched every NW race. Too many cup drivers making for boring races.

As Kyle Busch fans, we're worried that three straight poor finishes followed by Saturday night's race at Darlington is proof that he is back to finding ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Should we be concerned?
I doubt it. Kyle is part of he hottest organization in Cup right now. JGR is ahead o everyone else on the Gen 6. He'll be fine.
Hey Terry, what can we look for during the All Star Race that will be indications of how the Coca-Cola 600 will go?
I don't think the two events have much in common. One is an all out sprint with no points on the line, so guys take a lot of chances. The other is the longest race of the season where strategy comes into play as the track conditions change.
With ending the season at Vegas and the awards banquet the following week that would mean Clint Bowyer in Sin City for a week.GOLD!!!
As is true for several guys. Clint is quite a character at times, but most drivers wouldn't want to do it that way. They are tired at the end of the season and want to go home a chill for a few days.
Should we Dale Junebug fans set our hopes on Mich. next month for Dale's 2013 cup win?
Obviously, he could win there, but he could win at several places. But the 88 team has taken a half step backward the last month.
I understand sponsors and blah blah but I am glad I watched baseball instead of the NW race. I DVRed it and later in the night checked the top 5 online to see if it was worth watching. Top 5 were cup guys or former cup guys. No thanks. My DVR has one less thing on it.
I have no problem with former Cup guys who move down to race full time in NW because they can't get a quality Cup ride. So I'm fine with Sadler, Hornish, Vickers and Smith running in the series.

Frankly, I couldn't care less if he wins the owners title in NW for JGR.
How does cutting four races make NASCAR, tracks and teams more money? Making money is the bottem line no different than ESPN. (see my cable bill)
It's simple supply and demand. Too many races have diluted interest and attendance. As I wrote, individual track desires shouldn't trump the overall good of the sport.

Pretty good I think. They need to do something different to regain interest in the event, which had faded dramatically in recent years.
If driver is in top 20 in points the prior year and declares to be running for cup points, then max 5 NW/truck races current year.

Maybe, but there would be a lot of debate over which races become the majors.

Hi Terry, were you impressed that Kurt Busch could run 218+ at Indy first time he'd ever run an Indy car at the Brickyard?
I wasn't surprised. Kurt is a very talented race car driver. In my book, The Blount Report, I listed him and underrated in terms of how people view his ability. Given enough time, I think he could race well in almost any series.
Is Circuit Gilles Villenueve done forever in NASCAR? It put on way too many entertaining Nationwide races, and in the spirit of your column today, I've always thought it would make a great place Chase race.
I agree completely. But I don't see it happening as long as Cup races at The Glen. The tracks are too close together, geographically, and Watkins Glen is as ISC track. I don't see NASCASR adding a third road race. Weather could be a factor for a Chase race, but I hope NW returns soon.

The clock is ticking, no question. Time won't run out after this year, but I don't think a Cup title is in the cards for Junior.

They say no. it won't change how they rule on punishment. But I think it will a little bit.
As a Denny fan, I believe that an 11-18 crew chief swap would completely ruin my interest in the sport and my respect for Joe and JD. Just my two cents.

Car and team are extremely important. The best driver won't win in the worst car, but the worst driver won't win in the best car. It takes both.
With NASCAR lifting the pit road speed limit for the all star do you expect them to do it for the regular season too?
No way. Way too dangerous when so many cars pit at the same time. This is just to enhance the All-Star show, and it should be fun to watch. Drivers may fly down pit road and more than 100 mph.
When Burton and Richard "agree to part ways" do you think Burton will do a Labonte deal, S&P and hang around forever?
I'm not sure. Jeff says he still wants to race a little longer, but he options will be limited. It's all about the money. If a team owner is willing to pay you millions of dollars, it's hard to turn it down, even if it means racing in a car that isn't competitive.
I think Kurt would do great at Indy, but there is a difference in going 218 with down force and going 4 laps flat out at nearly 230mph with negative spoiler. That is why Danica will always have my respect.

I don't think any driver is capable of winning all five segments. If anyone can, JJ I guess. But wouldn't it be fun if someone won the first four and went to the last segment with a shot at the extra million. Talk about wild and going all out. Wow.

Do you think the 12 crew and Sam Hornish Jr can pull off a NNS championship? The consistency is there but Sam has made a few mistakes costing him points.
He certainly has a shot at it. I think five of six guys still could win it. I've really been impressed with how much JR Motorsports has improved this year. Smith was a great hire, as was Ryan Pemberton.
What's all this talk about Danica getting lapped at Charlotte?
NASCAR said the fan-vote winner still gets in the All-Star race even if that driver doesn't finish on the lead lap in the Showdown. Some are calling it the Danica Rule, but I think any driver the fans pick should get in no mater what they do in the Showdown. It's all about giving the fans what they want.
Mr. Blount, I read your article on the dream schedule for the Cup series this morning, and I have to agree with you. Here's a solution to get this dream schedule" the race tracks need to put aside their own personal greed in order to think of the sport as a whole. If they would do that and the sport gets back to its former glory, they would see 100% attendance and will be able to get the money they all want. Unfortuntely, that too will never happen. Thoughts?
I don't know about never, but it won't happen anytime soon.

He's not leaving, but the whole "lifetime contract" thing really doesn't mean much. It's way too soon to say who will replace Jeff, but Chase Elliott probably has a future in Cup for Hendrick.
How can people call Daytona 500 the biggest race of the year when people like Cope, Mikey, Bayne, Newman, Harvick won it?
Everyone calls it the biggest race of the of the year. Only the Indy 500 rivals it as the biggest race in the sport. It doesn't matter who wins it, it's still the biggest event. No other Cup race comes close.
I don't understand why the media calls for a shorter schedule. Give me one example where a major sports league shorten their schedule and improved the quality of said league
No other sports league is as long as Cup.
