Hello from Miami everybody. I've got to catch a flight in a few hours -- but let's get this chat rolling.
Any chance the bulls resign nate
I think Nate knows his time with the Bulls is over. He wants more money than they will be willing to offer given their cap situation.
Who is the future starting shooting guard for the Chicago bulls?
It sounds like it will be Jimmy Butler's job to lose heading into training camp unless the Bulls make a deal.
Hey Nick, great job covering the Bulls as usual. I have a question about the Bulls upcoming offseason transactions. Which members of the Bulls team will the bulls likely resign and who do you think they will draft? I personally see Belinelli in a Bulls uniform again but Nate most likely will command a bigger contract. As for the draft I would love to see Jeff Withey back up Noah. Thanks!
John, I think Nate, VladRad, Nazr and Cook are all gone. Belinelli has a chance to stay if the price is right. As for the draft, the Bulls would love to snatch up a young big man and develop him behind Noah. But there aren't a lot of those guys out there. As usual, they'll probably end up just taking the best guy left on their board at that point.
Do you think Derrick will play this year? :-)
I am glad these questions are over with for a few months.
Was kirk really that injured that he had to miss all those playoff games due to a bruised calf, which he did play on in the nets series. My question is what happened to kirk?
I think the Bulls were always concerned that Hinrich may have a tear in that calf. Now that the season is over, I think we'll find out for sure that it was a little more than just a bruised calf.
Gotta say, Nick, pretty disappointed with your latest article. As the beat writer, you should be a fan, and I don't know a single fan who doesn't think we could have won this series at 100%. Our front court size is problematic for Miami, so much so that we won 1 game, and came darn close in 2 others. The added offense that Rose & Deng can bring, along with Kirk's "Wade-Stopper" abilities give us enough to challenge Miami for the Conference thrown next year.
A fan? I don't get paid to be a fan. I get paid to cover the team. I don't think this team is good enough to beat Miami when they are completely healthy. The Bulls are a solid group but they need another scorer who can consistently create his own shot. The defense under Thibodeau will remain solid -- it's the offense down the stretch that is the problem.
Is Thibs goin to realize that not every season game is that important so these guys can be healthy for the playoffs?
I'm sure that Gar and Pax will have that conversation with him this summer. Thibs is going to do what he wants to do though. It's the blessing and the curse of having such a great coach running your team.
Nick, I do not think you are a Bulls "hater" or a Heat "booster" you call it like you see it and I appreciate that. As much as I like Deng for what he brings the Bulls, he is a "system player" who cannot really create his own shot. Will the Bulls look to deal him this off-season for pick/picks or salary relief of some kind? Thanks
Luol Deng's future is the most interesting subplot to this off-season in my opinion. The Bulls have a replacement for Deng in Jimmy Butler and could decide to deal the veteran if they so desire. If Deng doesn't want to re-sign for a reduced rate in the future, the Bulls should look to move him. The question is: What kind of trade value does he have? That's the question that Gar Forman and John Paxson must figure out as they get ready for the summer.
Do you think that Chicago fans would forgive Derrick Rose if he comes back?
In a heartbeat. If Rose starts dropping 20 points a game again -- all the fans that jumped on him will come back on his side quickly.
You say we do not have enough to beat Miami. Yet a fully healthy bulls team seems to be their worst nightmare. We got jmmy and Luol to put on wade and LBJ. Probably the best set of perimeter defender s in the NBA neither of which are critical offensively so they can bring everything to stop them. They have no answer for rose. And the improvement of Noah paired with boozer and Taj and Marco of the bench. This seems like a team perfectly designed to beat the heat.
A lot of frustrated Bulls fans feel the same way. My question to everyone who feels like this would be simple: When LeBron starts guarding Rose down the stretch -- who is going to score for the Bulls?
What do you think about the Bulls trying to speed up their tempo a little more? I watched the Spurs game and even they were trying to push it every time they could. I think this would give us some easier looks and a few more buckets a game.
With Rose that is a possibility -- without him, this was just the way the Bulls had to play in order to succeed.
Realistically, when do you foresee Mirotic coming to the Bulls?
The Bulls are hoping he comes over next summer -- but there's a lot of red tape to clear as far as his deal over in Europe is concerned.
Kevin Love in a Bulls uni would be a beautiful thing. Realistically, who else could the Bulls go after?
I think he's the only star who could be available in a trade this summer. Only problem for the Bulls is I don't know if Flip Saunders wants to move him out of Minnesota right now.
Any chance we see Korver back next year?
The Bulls would love to have him -- it all depends on how much of a pay cut he would take.
If ownership thought the Bulls were close, would they ever go over the cap, pay the luxury tax and add an expensive piece for a shot at the NBA title?
I believe they would go deep in the tax if it meant they were close to a title -- but only time will tell.
Is there any Scenerio that you can see the Bulls trying to move Taj? He has a big salary now for a guy who is coming off the bench and injured on-and-off?
The only untouchable on the roster is Derrick Rose. Everybody has could be dealt if the right pieces were coming back.
Are you going to come over and meet my new sister now that the season is over?
No doubt. See ya soon Double G.
Hey Nick- What do you see as Jimmy Butler's ceiling going forward?
Jimmy is only getting better. I think he could become a solid starter in this league for years to come. He's got to continue working on his jump shot and make sure he gets more arc underneath it -- but the coaches love his work ethic and believe he is just scratching the surface with how good he can be.
No coach has brought a championship to Chicago without sporting a mustache since Papa Bear way back when. Do you think Thibs would be open to growing a mustache to win a ring?
If it meant winning a title, I think he would be open to it.
All right everybody -- I am out of here. Thanks for all the questions this season. I'll talk to you again in a few weeks before the draft. If you've got a question feel free to send me an e-mail: NFriedell@espnchicago.com Talk to you later.
