Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Want to hit a couple of quick notes out of the gate. The TFS 2013 Fantasy Football Draft Guide is now available at a pre-order price of 33% off at www.thefootballscientist.com. I'm also starting a newsletter later this summer that will provide a quick review of all of the TFS material from that week, and the sign-up form for that newsletter can be found at the bottom of the front page of the TFS website. Now let's talk some football!

Dave (Novato)

Hello KC, do you think Mike Wallace will put up elite level production in Miami in his first year there?

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Absolutely. He actually had a solid season in many ways last year and if that is his performance floor, it isn't hard to imagine where the ceiling is for him.

Doug (MI)

Megatron >>>>>>>>>> Wallace

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Just like clockwork - 10 greater than signs this week!

Derrick (Garden City)

Hey KC, how high are you on Lamar Miller in Miami?

KC Joyner
  (4:02 PM)

Miami ranked in the top 5 in good blocking rate last year and they should still be near that level even with the O line changes. Big concern is whether or not he will be a bell cow or if Miami will run a RBBC backfield.

B Mand (Sarasota, FL)

How good do you think the Bucs can be this year?

KC Joyner
  (4:03 PM)

Double-digit wins. Could even win the division in certain scenarios.

Bob (CA)

Ryan Mathews just isn't very good at football is he?

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

We'd get a better insight into this if Mathews could stay healthy for a considerable length of time. Durability issues are just too big of a part of his story.

Rich (New Jersey)

Hi KC, Tim Tebow signed with a great team and an excellant head coach. Depending on where Bill Belichick has Tim playing, statisticly it'll be significantly better than his Jets stats, will Tim get back to or surpass the numbers he got with the Broncos?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

He'll have better stats than he had with the Jets last year, at least assuming he makes the NE regular season squad. As far as replicating the Broncos numbers, can't see it happening because two other QBs would have to get hurt for him to move to the starting lineup.

Nate (Millbury MA)

Hi KC, I enjoyed your recent article on EJ Manuel. Just wondering what you think the Bills record will be if they have improved qb play. Any glimmer of hope for playoffs?

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

It really isn't difficult to see this team winning nine games if the QB situation improves. That might not be enough to make the postseason but then again it might.

Joe (Tampa)

Good afternoon KC. Most of the word around footbal (especially with friends) is that Josh Freeman is horrible. I am not apart in that, but tell me if you think he will have a break out year this year in a contract year.

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

The TFS take on Freeman is that he's inconsistent more than he is horrible. He's had mechanics issues and conditioning concerns and sometimes looks like he's trying to get by on sheer talent. The contract issue isn't always a positive motivator for players and I'm not sure it will be positive in Freeman's case.

Hey KC, dynasty league question. Was offered a $30 Rg3 for my $5 Kaepernick. We use standard rosters and start with $300 budget. Love Kap and can't beat the price. What say you?

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Given how deep the QB position is in fantasy football, it's hard to justify paying an extra $25 for RG3. Stick with the $5 Kaepernick.

MARI IL [via mobile]

Why cant i catch a break i drafted cam newton two years ago and luck last year with my last pick just to drop them and end up mad at the end why dont the fantasy football gods not like me

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Quick question - why did you drop Newton and Luck?

Kyle (Lincoln NE)

History shows us that a team will go from worst to first in their division. Which of the following team(s) has the best chance: Eagles, Lions, Bucs, Cardinals, Bills, Browns, Jaguars, Chiefs.

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

Would say the Bucs if they can get Freeman to play with more consistency.

Craig (CA)

KC! Who is better: Mike Wallace or Megatron?

KC Joyner
  (4:11 PM)

It'll be fun to see where this argument goes after this year. Got a feeling the Dolphins are going to target Wallace on a ton of vertical passes.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Willis just got cut today..is Montee Ball a legit RB2 now? 1000 yds, 20 catches or so, 5 TDs?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Yeah, he'd make the top 20-25 on most RB lists, although it still might be more towards the lower end of that at the moment. Just want to be sure he's going to be a bell cow or something near it before ranking him too much higher.

Joe (Tampa)

Then how do you think it will be a double digit year as posted to B MAND in Sarasota? Not trying to question it. Just wondering.

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Bucs have a lot of positives - top 10 offense when hitting on most cylinders and a strong run D. Pass D will be improved with the adds this offseason. TB just doesn't have that many question marks outside of QB.

Ryan (PA)

Thoughts on Charles with Reid as the HC? I have him for $60 in a $350 cap league. I am on the fence with holding on to him or dropping him

KC Joyner
  (4:14 PM)

Unless you have a backup plan with someone who will be close to Charles' production level (which should be a top 5-10 RB), keep him. Quality RBs are going to be extra hard to come by this year in fantasy football.

MARI IL [via mobile]

I didnt feel i could trust two rookie qbs at the time so i went my gut and just play it out with the already proven ones

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

Up until recently, it was hard to trust rookie QBs. Good news is there are a lot of quality fantasy QBs this year, so the drop-off in production level shouldn't be that bad.

Joe (San Francisco, CA)

Wait, so Mike Wallace took $16M less to go to a non-playoff team over a playoff team cause the non-playoff team is a title winner? Wait, what?

KC Joyner
  (4:16 PM)

Maybe he's been talking to the 1972 Dolphins.

Jason (Tennessee)

Does Doug realize that when you posted that Mike Wallce was better than Calvin Johnson 2 YEARS AGO he actually was fantasy football wise. Trust me, I had them both on my team that year and as an added bonus we receive extra points for touchdowns over 50 yeards. Mike Wallace was the #1 WR in fantasy that year!!!!!!!!!

KC Joyner
  (4:17 PM)

Wallace was as good or better than Johnson for about a year and a half. And a lot of Wallace's drop off since then has to do with Ben getting hurt (an all too frequent occurrence).

Nate ( Tx)

With Gronk possibly out for a while is jimmy graham the only elite te?

KC Joyner
  (4:17 PM)

Graham will be the only blue-rated tight end in the 2013 TFS Draft Guide. No one else outside of Gronk would have come close.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Josh Gordon was getting some hype, and then he had to go and get suspended for 2 games..where would you rank him among WRs fantasy-wise?

KC Joyner
  (4:18 PM)

I've got some faith in the Cleveland offense but still can't get Gordon higher than a WR4.

KC Joyner
  (4:20 PM)

Hate to do it but I've got to take a call, so got to hit the road a bit early this week. Quick notes before going - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. The 2013 TFS Fantasy Football Draft Guide is available pre-order (save 33%!) at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks very much for the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
