OK, let's get started and I'm guessing the first question is from Chris in NY.
What Texas Longhorns will set School Records in 2013 in College Football?
How did I just know that?Anyway as for the answer: Maybe if they average 84 plays a game or if they play defense like last season.
Hey Carter, hearing that Jamal Adams is planning on committing really soon, sooner than anticipated, could it relate to his recent visit to the swamp? How concerned show Texas be with his decision on speeding up his decision time frame? Also, with texas sitting on 5 WR verbal commitments, do we take Armanti Foreman and wait for K.D. aka "show me the money" Cannon? Thanks Carter.
Wilkerson has Adams as a 30 percent chance Texas commit. This is down. Last week the thought was he was more of a Texas guy. But he is a kid and they change their minds as do adults. I think Cannon will wind up at Baylor. Foremans want to go together and I think they go to Texas.
I noticed that d'onta foreman was a 95% chance of signing with UT but, armanti only a 80%. Has there been an indication that they wouldn't go to college together?
I'm not sure why William but 95 and 80 percent. I think it is almost a lock they go together. He might just be giving himself some wiggle room since these are high school kids. But I think the odds are they are together at Texas.
Have you heard anything about the NCAA allowing limited summer interactions with coaches? Like they have with bball?
Mack Brown is leading the charge on this one. He hopes to have it changed by next summer. They are getting all the coaches on the same page and presenting their argument to the NCAA.
with the suprise wrs commits and from the punter, if we do get the twins to commit donta amanti how many secondary players do we get in this class?
Well there are a couple of safeties that should be taken. Might be Adams, Bonney or Freeman. Texas needs two of those three. Springs is a cb that I think goes to Texas. Oh and Jason Hall is another DB.
which wrs in this class do you see getting playing time next year as a freshman for us?
Not sure because it depends on what Overstreet and Thomas can do. I think Meander is turning some heads. Oliver is going to be a good one too. But Texas might be able to keep some of those guys on the shelf if Overstreet and Thomas develop.
I honestly dont like it when a coach leaves a university unles its for retirement. That said, say if Manny Diaz has a top 10 national defense this year, is he a guy that will pack up and take a job somewhere else? I mean, he wouldn't be the first d-cord to do it...
Where do you see Texas basketball in 5 years?
I think they get a new coach in that time frame and it is Buzz Williams.
Hypothetically, under what circumstances would Mack get the boot if Nick Saban came calling for the Texas HC job? (Given Saban's current situation at Bama I know this would never happen)
OK i will play along. Maybe if Mack moved to AD. But his ego is not going to allow him to move to AD and watch Saban wake the sleeping giant that is Texas.
How are the injured players recovering?
Every injured player is on track except for maybe Cobbs.
Of the recent commits which are you most excited to see join the program?
I don't really get excited over the players. I'm not a fan. I'm just an observer. That being said I am interested to see what Desmond Harrison can do at tackle because if he is good that can allow Texas to do a lot of tinkering on the offensive line.
Texas has carried the notion that they can't develop kids to their potential... What the hell is UT doing that is hindering then from developing these kids or bucking that trend? Are they not good motivators?
Too much star treatment imo
three part question number one Texas basketball will surprise a lot of people this year coach barnes is going to do a hell of job and all those that wont him fired will eat there words. number two is jordan hicks going to take his medical redshirt year or not......number three i guess cayleb jones laid to rest his rumors yesterday day on twitter when he stated trying to be a better man and a better texas football player...
No hops is not going to be great. Hicks will probably take the year if it is given. There were a ton of rumors swirling around Cayleb and his cleaned out locker. Might not know where he truly stands until practice opens in August.
how many recruits do the longhorns plan on taking in this class?
They have 19 so far. I think they can afford to go all the way to 25. But maybe 23 is a more realistic number.
who are some suprise recruits texas can still pull in? are we in the running for the halfback out of texas joe mixon?
Those safeties I mentioned earlier are going to be big. Have not seen Mixon's name around that much in stories from William and Max. BTW here is a link to some guys that are still out there that Texas is after. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/texas/post?id=16032
brown or adams who u take? chances we land one or both your thoughts.
Adams bc he is the more likely to land at Texas.
Who do you think Texas' starting five offensive and defensive linemen are, come the start of fall ball?
O line I'm going to go Harrison, Walters, Espinosa -- with a huge push from Flowers or Hopkins -- Hawkins and Cochran.D line is Reed, Brown, Dorsey, Jeffcoat
Which Texas program is resurrected first, Baseball or Basketball?
Baseball. I think hoops is two or three years away. Baseball can be turned quickly.
How many WR commits will Texas take this year and out of all the DB's they are going after, which ones are most likely going to be with the burnt orange?
See DB answer in other post below. Also on this line http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/texas/post?id=16032Maybe as many as six WRs.
With WVU in the fold. Has Texas got a recruiting base in West Virginia?
Why would they want one?
At some point, the Big 12 must get back to being a national force... who will the next Big 12 National Champion be? and why? cheers!
Texas or OU.
I haven't heard much about Hassan Ridgway this off-season. What are his prospects like for the season? Will he be in the rotation?
He had a very good spring. Long arms and productive. Not ready to play just yet but in a year he is going to be very good. Made some big plays in spring game.
Who are the most likely candidates to make a huge jump this upcoming season (e.g. from low second or third string to starter)?
We just did a story on this one. I think we settled on McFarland at TE, Reed at DE and I think Max went out on a limb and took Steve Edmond. Also watch out for Evans at corner. He will play in nickel and has serious speed.
With so many WR commits in the 2014 class, who among the current crop are the most likely attrition candidates?
Texas is loading up on WRs in future classes. Hard to tell where they cut back at this point. But i can tell you that in analyzing all the players Mack has brought in over the years, WRs are the hardest to predict. Texas has missed on more WRs than at any other position and that includes QBs.
Which young WR will/needs to step up given the uncertainty surround Cayleb Jones, and the possibility of him not being available next season?
Sanders will be the guy. And Mack said they are goign to keep Thomas over on offense as well for now. So thsoe two guys plus Jalen is moving and could give some help. Remember Cayleb only has two career catches so it is not as if Texas would be losing a superstar.
Hey Carter.. big fan of the site and the work you guys are doing!! The Longhorns recruiting trail has been exciting lately given all the commitments we've received recently. I know it's still very early but I haven't really heard of some of the kids and they are not ranked at least to my knowledge. Can you tell me more about the recent commits and any to look out for as far as climbing up in the rankings, sleepers or that could come in and have an impact right away? Thanks once again Carter and have a good one!
Read this:http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/texas/post?id=16032Also Texas is No. 4 in the latest rankings. They have done very well with 19 commits in 2013 and off the top of my head 8 for 2104? Might be seven or nine.Heard, the QB, is a kid everyone should keep an eye on. Could be a good one for Texas.
Can we get Leonard Fournette to campus again? If we can, what are the chances we land him? Saw him in the Texas jersey
Don't think that is going to happen.
I keep hearing about the speed of Evans but he seems to disappear during the season. With Byndom's struggles and goign more Nickle, is Evans in the fold for an increase in action? We have to get that kind of speed on the field.
Evans never went through spring and bc of that never really had a chance to get on the field for significant snaps. He stayed away from track this year and really improved his coverage skills in spring. Byndom should rebound since he is playing for an NFL contract this year.
How big can this class realistically get? By taking 15 last season, do we have room for 35 this season? Would be nice to land the most important guys (Thomas, Adams, a few other DBs), while still landing other good talent.
25. Not sure they would go over that number. There is the 50 over two year rule but Texas has to figure out who is leaving, etc before it goes bonkers and signs 27 or 28. The 2011 and 2012 classes were pretty big and the bulk of those guys have stayed.
If Brewer transfers mid-season, will Texas take 2 guys in 2014, too, or simply move Overstreet back? I think Aaron Sharp would be a lesser risk than Jalen was. Also, will Texas ever offer the TE from Louisiana?
Brewer is not going to leave in the middle of the season. If he leaves it will be before the season or after it. I'm not sure he makes the move now bc he is third string with a chance to be second string. (Case is a non factor in my mind, btw.)as for the TE, Texas has a tight end from JC. Is that they guy you are thinking of?
Fast acting on getting to the questions Carter. Nice Job! As an observer and not a fan, you probably are a bit more realistic than most of us. In your opinion, how many games does Texas win and who do they lose to?
Well I actually think Texas is going to be pretty good this year and as most of you guys know I am an eternal pessimist. I think when you look at the schedule and who Texas has coming back UT should get 11 wins. 12 with the bowl. I think they could lose to BYU, OU, at TCU or at BU. They might lose two of those games. But i think just one because they byes are so well placed in this schedule it will give Texas ample time to prepare.
So D'haquille Williams was supposed to come to campus in July. Any chance it happens now?
That is still way up in the air.
What's your prediciton on the UT front seven and how it will perform with the losses it sustained, and propensity of key players, namely Hicks and Jeffocat, to suffer injuries?
Yeah good question. I really like what Jinkens brings and Reed at the DE. Also Shiro has put on 20 pounds and appears as if he is ready to be more of a player. Texas has seven LBs who have started at least one game so the lose of Hicks - if it happens -- will not be as huge as it was last year. Tevin Jackson is a nice player and can do some things at LB. Also the interior of the DL is very strong so they should be able to get a better push. Brandon Moore was just not the player we all thought he would be last year. M. Brown is very good at the DL and should create some problems for offenses and lanes for the LBs.
If Brewer transfers back home, will Texas move Overstreet back to QB or take a second one in 2014? Aaron Sharp seems less risky than taking Jalen was.
They would probably take another 14 QB. Once you move a guy it is hard to move him back and there is plenty of time to get in with a 2014 QB.
Carter, thanks for answering. Okay, I'm just hoping Brewer will leave bc it will be best for both parties. Still, if he did leave, would Sharp get the nod? He's not playing ahead of McCoy or Swoopes in 2013.The TE I'm talking about is the one who's been verbal on wanting the Texas offer for months now. I can't ever remember his name, sorry.
I'm not sure whether Sharp would be the guy or not. Texas. John Thomas is the TE I'm talking about he is in a JC over in LA. He is committed already. Here is the bio:http://espn.go.com/colleges/texas/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187090/john-thomas
Anthony Jones is that TE.
Ah Anthony Jones. The kid from Edna Karr. He is 6-6 and has a great frame but he might not fit what Texas wants to do in the spread system. Here is his scouting report.http://insider.espn.go.com/colleges/texas/football/recruiting/player/evaluation/_/id/174272/anthony-jones
