Fantasy Sports with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (10:59 AM)

Good morning, gang! Lots of fantasy talk to get to, so let's get right to it, shall we? A special Friday second cup of coffee in hand... who is up first?

Chris (Grand Rapids, MI)

How worried should I be about K-Rod sniping saves from Henderson from here to the end of the season?

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

I think Henderson will have the job and K-Rod pitches the 8th. Now, certainly there will be days Henderson can't pitch a K-Rod may get those saves, but other than that, he shouldn't effect Henderson. Only Henderson can hurt Henderson.

Pepe (Boston)

Do you have a guess about who takes over closing for the Red Sox?

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

My guess is Tazawa, as he was "named" the closer the last time the need arose, though he didn't end up getting any chances. Uehara the only other name in the mix.

mar (so cal)

ros ranking... moreland, laroche, hosmer, belt, konerko

AJ Mass
  (11:03 AM)

Moreland, Belt, LaRoche, PK, Hosmer. I believe Moreland's back today?

Ripped Groins (Denver)

Thoughts on Alex Cobb? Is he droppable for not with an "out indefinitely" tag from his manager?

AJ Mass
  (11:04 AM)

Concussions and other head injuries are nearly impossible to judge. I doubt he'll be back in "7 days" but given his ability at 100 percent, I'd try and find a way to stash him until there's definite word that this is going to be a very long absence.

chris (nyc)

Are you a Kyle Blanks fan? Keep him or dump for Moreland?

AJ Mass
  (11:05 AM)

Yes, I like a lot of what I see in Blanks, but not more than Moreland. Dump.

Dan (Utah)

I just traded Puig for Stanton. Good move?

AJ Mass
  (11:07 AM)

Time will tell, no? Puig's value is certainly at a high right now, and if Stanton does what he expected before he got hurt, then there should be no reason to feel bad about this deal.

Les (East Windsor, NJ)

Gut feeling - Yanks try to salvage the season by making a big trade deadline move, or just some tweaking?

AJ Mass
  (11:08 AM)

I don't think they have the moving parts to make a big deadline move right now...

Football Question (Boston)

Do you see increased value in Ammendola as it appears he will be the only target Brady will throw to?

AJ Mass
  (11:10 AM)

Regardless of how the TE situation plays out, I already had the opinion that Belichick plans to make sure Amendola catches 150 passes this season just to stick it to Wes Welker. Health, to me, is the only concern.

Brandon (East northport)

Prado or Rutledge at 2b for the next few weeks?

AJ Mass
  (11:10 AM)

Prado for me.

chris (nyc)

Everyone's got an opinion on Corey Kluber. What you say?

AJ Mass
  (11:11 AM)

I like him. Right now, he's only around a No. 5 fantasy SP for me, but rising quickly.

PujolsJunkie (Lols Angeles)

Worried about Cole vs Angels tonite?

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

I'm not sure if worried is the right word, but do I expect we'll see the kid's first L? Probably.

Ryan (DC)

Rank RoS: Cashner, Lyles, Feldman

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

Lyles, Cashner, Feldman. Not a huge gap between the three, though.

Billy Butler (KC)

Will I have more strikeouts than hits?

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

It's not THAT bad... sure I'd love to see more run production, but...

Adam (PA)

Need saves - would you add Benoit or Tazawa?

AJ Mass
  (11:16 AM)

Assuming Tazawa is the guy, I go to him. To me, when it comes to closer choices, I look to skill set - things like BAA and K/BB above all else.

Rebeka (Canada)

Thoughts on Nolasco? Drop Neise, Porcello, or Ogando for him in h2h?

AJ Mass
  (11:17 AM)

Ricky's a No. 4 SP right now... solid but nothing spectacular. You may not have to drop anyone as Niese could be headed to the DL.

Steve (LA)

What happened to Bourn as a SB threat?

AJ Mass
  (11:20 AM)

A .259 average since May 27 goes a long way towards limiting opportunities. These things do tend to go in streaks - look at Altuve's insane run.

Ruben (San Francisco )

Is H2H the worst scoring system ever?

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

I would not go that far by any means... to me, it comes down to personal preference more than anything else. You like it, use it. You don't, don't. Personally, I think baseball H2H is far more about luck and roster manipulation than it is about baseball analysis, but that's just my opinion.

Marcus (NH)

Fowler or Cuddyer ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:22 AM)

Cuddyer. Fowler may be headed back to DL if finger doesn't get better, but I'd have same answer either way.

Ben (IA)

Multiple choice. Can't get much easier for ya...A Braun owner should: A.) Sit tight B.) start fielding offers C.) find a temporary substitute.

AJ Mass
  (11:23 AM)

Both B and C.

Gloria (Essex)

Alright Mr. AJ, Who do you keep, who do you drop? A. Craig, M. Cuddyer, B. Butler.

AJ Mass
  (11:25 AM)

I can only keep one? Cuddyer. I mean, I'd probably keep all three, pending what's on the wire.

Colt (Texas)

Do you trust Dickey tonight? He's been inconsistent all year.

AJ Mass
  (11:26 AM)

Trust is hard because of that inconsistency, but I did rank him No. 9 in DN, so I'm likely to start him in most formats.

Dave (Burlington, MA)

12 team football keeper league, of these three what two should I keep? Forte, Ridley, Bryant

AJ Mass
  (11:27 AM)

As you may have noticed if you've looked at the Draft Kit and the Mock Draft we did... RB are at a premium this year, and so I'd lock up two RB before most WR, Bryant included.

David (CT)

As a Dom Brown owner should I sit tight assuming he will continue to hit for power or try and trade him as soon as possible?

AJ Mass
  (11:29 AM)

Firstly, never assume anything, David. But I think regardless of the player, you always can field offers and even solicit them and see what you can get. If a deal comes along that you really like, you pull the trigger. If not, you stand pat.

Steve (Ny)

Should I pick up Alex Colome for a spot start against the Yankees ? I have Buch and Burnett on the DL. Looking for help thanks

AJ Mass
  (11:31 AM)

Ranked him fairly well for today. Track record so far is almost non-existent and there's not much you can learn from a win over Miami... but NYY haven't exactly been killing the ball lately.

Aaron (Central Coast of CA)

Hey AJ! You starting Doug Fister today in an 8-team league where I'm slightly behind the pace of max games started?

AJ Mass
  (11:33 AM)

Daily Notes can answer a lot of these questions: http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/dailynotes?page=mlbnotes130621. And since I have Fister at No. 5, ahead of Cueto, that should tell you what I think here.

Doug (MT)

AJ, Ryu would you rather hang tight with the steady, if not somewhat boring, Ryu or go with the immense upside of Wheeler?

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

Long-term keeper? Wheeler. This year only? I think slow and steady wins the race.

Brock (Millersville)

Better chance of a QS, Santiago, Deduno today or Leake tomorrow?

AJ Mass
  (11:36 AM)

Actually not loving Leake tomorrow based on the matchup. Probably Santiago of the trio.

John (Cincinnati, Oh)

Need SB, when you think Hamilton gets called up?

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

September, barring major injury to one of the current starters.

MW (NJ)

Thoughts on Jarrod Parker? A top 40 SP for ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:39 AM)

Honestly, I don't see it. Possibly my least favorite of all the A's SP.

Gary (NC)

ROS, better production: Soriano or Ethier?

AJ Mass
  (11:40 AM)

Ethier by a small amount.

Homer Bailey (Cincy)

Am I a must own now? Match up proof right?

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

Must own? I think that's long since been the case. Must start? Not quite above that Wandy Line (cue drop) but certainly a No. 3 Sp with room to rise.

Will (Baltimore)

Top fantasy tight end right now after graham?

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

Still Gronk, even with 11-13 games played. Vernon on the rise, though.

Will (Baltimore)

If you miss out on a top TE who should you target at the end of the draft?

AJ Mass
  (11:44 AM)

Read the Sleepers/Busts article in the Draft Kit for ideas. Not a ton of difference between No 8 and No. 18 at TE.

John (Portland)

Is Profar worth a keeper spot if we only have 3 keepers?

AJ Mass
  (11:45 AM)

You have to see how he finishes out the year, don't you? The one thing I would say in his favor, even if he does end up getting moved to the OF (which might lower his keeper appeal) is that he would still qualify at 2B next year, minimizing the impact of a position change.

Will (Baltimore)

If Ap and Af go 1-2 who goes 3?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

Last NFL question for the day... for me it's Martin.

North (West)

Jered Weaver was just dropped in my league. Sign him ASAP? Thanks so much!

AJ Mass
  (11:47 AM)

My gut instinct is that dropping him was probably the right move at the present time... but if you're a team that's hoping for a "home run" to save your staff, then I can easily see 100 reasons to sign him.

Mike (Menomonie)

What are your thoughts on cash trades in a keeper league (ex. Harper for $50)?

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

Real cash or FAAB cash? No problem with the latter... very slippery slope to disaster with actual money involved.

Nick (Atlanta)

Do you think lasik surgery could help Dan Uggla's contact rate?

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

Can't hit what you can't see, right? If he's seriously having an issue and it isn't just "an excuse" then how can having better vision NOT help him? It's certainly not going to make him miss more, in any event.

JR (Hardly working)

Gyorko could be back next week...going to pick up where he left off?

AJ Mass
  (11:52 AM)

I'd assume so... short DL trips with a player coming back fully healed never worry me. Might be a day or two of rust, but other than that, players are who they are more often than not.

Drew (Tallahassee)

According to the box score, Josh Hamilton was the only Angel to not record a hit last night. That's seems to be his season in a nutshell.

AJ Mass
  (11:52 AM)

Can they bat him tenth?

Jay (MPLS)

M Montero or AJ P ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

AJ like AJ.

Mike (Corus)

Swisher gonna turn it around?

AJ Mass
  (11:54 AM)

Lots of Swisher Q's today for some reason... I think what you see here is what you get. Even Dan Uggla can see it.

Michael (Thornhill)

Didi Gregorius or Profar?

AJ Mass
  (11:55 AM)

Didi. Though he still lags behind Didi Conn on my all-time top Didi list.

Jeff (Venice Beach)

Utley coming off the DL today?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

Haven't heard word one way of the other, but if it isn't today, should be tomorrow.

Marc (California)

What is your favorite scene or episode of "The Sopranos"?

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

Pine Barrens episode, to me, is the standout in a series full of quality. The ducks have flown away for good, Tony. RIP.

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

That's all the time for today, gang. For those I couldn't get to, there's Twitter (@ajmass). Be sure to check out the Daily Notes and also the Fantasy Football Draft Kit. Have a great weekend all, and as always, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
