Let's get started.
Do you believe the successor to Mack Brown whenever that maybe hopefully another 10 years from now is on the staff right now?
I'm sure you are asking about Major Applewhite or Manny Diaz before the 2012 season. I do believe that of the members on the staff right now, Major Applewhite is the one most positioned to be a head coach at the Univrsity of Texas. A lot of that depend on how long Mack Brow coaches, how he leaves the university and the success Applewhite has as he OC.
Do you think Tyrone Swoopes will play this coming fall?
If I'm forced to answer the answer is yes. My hope is that David Ash stays healthy all year and Case McCoy is the backup and the Longhorns don't need him. Swoopes is a fantastic talent but I still think he needs some 'soakage' in the program.
What 1 game early in the schedule should be the gauging point on how the season will go?
As much love as people are giving to Ole Miss and a mature BYU team, I'll go with the one that will be coached best and that will be Kansas State. They lost a lot but really recruit the JUCO ranks well ad then they coach them up. Texas struggles against Kansas State anyway so that could mean a lot before the off week.
What players do you believe are primed to have a breakout season?
Johnathan Gray will have a great year. Adrian Phillips will look a lot more like the end of 2012 and not the beginning. Peter Jinkens and Jordan Hicks will step is up at linebacker as well.
What is the hope for a guy like Jerrod Heard with a guy like Swoopes in front of him, and separated by a year?
The hope is that he can come in and soak up everything that he can about the quarterback position at Texas and do that without being under a threat to get under center. Mack has always had great success when his quarterback is allowed to redshirt and grow into the position.
If Mack Brown retired tomorrow, and you're on the search committee for the next head coach, who's on your short list Sean?
Chip Kelly when he leaves the Eagles in a couple of years. Chris Peterson from Boise State. Mark Richt from Georgia, Major Applewhite
What are the chances that Case McCoy never returns to the team? Leaving for 10 weeks must surely be some kind of message,
I think the chances are 95% that he returns. He went on a long mission trip but Texas knows who he is and what he can do. David Ash is THE quarterback and that won't change unless theirs injury. McCoy will be the backup unless it becomes a long term deal and then it could go to Swoopes.
You can take any college football player, thats not a QB, from any team and place them on the Longhorns to make them better. Who do you take? Why?
Jadaveon Clowney and it's not even close. He is everything that Texas needs to help the linebacking group and the defensive backfield. He everything Texas Longhorn fans want in Jackson Jeffcoat.
How much will the success (or lack thereof) of this season affect recruiting for 2015, 2016?
This is a season that in many ways will hinge on the success of the games. Winning football games is more important than any conversation that can be had about momentum, Texas A&M, Big 12 or anything else.
Do Ash, Jeffcoat, and Hicks finally take that next step forward to elevate the Horns back to the top of the conference?
They better or else Texas won't be there. Jeffcoat and Hicks have to stay healthy and more than that have to perform at a level that makes Texas great.
Do you think we are stating to see the impact of having Patrick Suddes on staff?
Yes we are but we are not seeing the biggest impact. He is a planning, information and logistical guy that will really show his impact in the 2014 and 2015 class. The impact players attending camp and visiting campus is Suddes having effect but his value will be with the younger classes where Texas will smack other schools around in recruiting.
Why are opinions so different on David Ash? Either he is good or he is not right?
He has performed great against not so great teams and has struggled against really good teams. David Ash has to win some games that he is not expected t win and play in a way that makes people, coaches, players and media raise their eye brows. If he does not do that then people will always stay on the fence about him.
How would you rank the top 5 teams in the Big 12 going into the season?
TCU, Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Oklahoma
If you were OC Major would you run the first offensive play of the 2013 season for Daje J. to show college football we are playing a speed game this year. Your thoughts?
Come on I was a wide receiver, I would pass the ball on first down. It won't take long for folks to see the speed that Texas has. Daje needs to get a good set of touches every single game.
Is the TE position looking better with Mj getting some more blocking experience while also bringing in Thomas someone with just about the same skill set or are their still question marks?
I think it could be a position to play better in 2013. Don't shocked to see John Harris get a look at a flex tight end or hybrid position.
Do you think J. Gray will break 1,000 yards this season and how many TD's does he get or will J. Bergeron get all the short TD again this yr?
I do think Gray gets to 1000 yards this year and he will get double digit touchdowns. Bergeron will have his time but it's going to be hard to get Gray off the field.
Who do you see as the starting LB's and DT's to kick off the season? I'd like to see Hicks at MLB and Jinkins & Jackson at OLB. Brown and Ridgeway at DT?
I think your linebacker group might be on the money. The D rotation might take some time. Ashton Dorsey and Desmond Jackson will have something to say about that.
Looking at all positions which do you feel is the strength of the team and weakest?
The easy strength is the RB position. The unknown right now is going to be safety. We know Adrian Phillips will be there but we have no idea who is going to be lining up next to him.
Thanks for the questions.
