R.A. is here!

Downs MacRury (Los Angeles)

Dodgers, Astros coming up in July; can we expect you to go yard for first time in MLB career?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:29 PM)

Well, it won't be from lack of trying, I can tell you that. I'm not really a home run hitter, I'm more of a singles guy, but I try to jump ship from time to time.

Alex (Anaheim)

How do Toronto and New York compare as baseball markets?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:29 PM)

They're both bigger market teams. Toronto is a big city and you're the team for the whole country. The media market is a little more intense in New York.

Jeff (DC)

how did you get involved with Dickies?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:30 PM)

That's how I got involved, with the name. And I've grown up with the brand. Getting involved with Dickies was a natural fit in that regard as well.

Matt (Chicago)

How did you develop your knuckleball to be so good late in your career?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:30 PM)

Just being stubborn. I grew up having to survive. Learning that helps you to be able to be resilient. But it takes time and patience.

Linda (Connecticut)

You have been a huge inspiration to me. I'm a 40-year-old roller derby player whose body doesn't always want to cooperate, but I keep pushing and finding new ways to improve. How hard was it for you to come to grips with what you could and couldn't do on the baseball field?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:31 PM)

That was probably the biggest adjustment that I ever had to make as an athlete -- saying goodbye to who I once was and embrace a new journey. That was hard, to say you're not good at what you once were good at. It was hard but necessary.

Daniel (Florida)

Dwight Gooden is also chatting on ESPN.com today.. what would you ask Doc?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:32 PM)

That's a good question...I think I'd want to ask him what the singular thing that you wish that you could do differently. One thing about your career?

Matt T (Boston)

How much longer do you think you can keep playing throwing the knuckleball?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:33 PM)

I think physically I could throw it for 5-6 more years, maybe more. Emotionally, I try to be in the moment as much as possible. I'm also a father and husband. I feel like there is a calling on my life to be good at those things as well.

Andy (Cleveland)

what's your favorite Dickies clothing?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:33 PM)

The carpenter pant. It's called Duck carpenter pant.

Matt T (Boston)

R.A, whats' the difference between a knuckleball and knucklecurve?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:34 PM)

A knuckleball is thrown with the intention of subtracting spin from the baseball. A knucklecurve is thrown with the intention of imparting spin and making it break. One is thrown with one knuckle up, one with two.

Jeremy (Lake Zurich, IL)

What is it like playing and living in a different country on a somewhat-regular basis now?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:35 PM)

It's an adjustment. New currency. New cell phone plans. Things aren't as familiar. Customs every time you travel. But if you're patient with that adjustment, it's a fantastic city.

Andrew Z. (Struthers, OH)

What did it mean to you personally to win the Cy Young award?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:36 PM)

One of the things that made the Cy Young so rich to me is I got to celebrate it with a lot of people that poured into me in a transforming way. That was the thing that was so rewarding for me.

Brian (Philly)

Hows your back feeling?

R.A. Dickey
  (1:36 PM)

It's feeling better. Last outing I had no pain. I'm optimistic that my velocity will increase over the next 3-4 starts.

R.A. Dickey
  (1:37 PM)

To the Blue Jays fans, fasten your seat belts and be prepared for a wild ride as we go through the next part of the season.
