Terry got tied up, but he will be here at 3:30 p.m. ET to take your questions.
Hey gang sorry about the confusion on today chat time. I was interviewing John and Courtney Force for a story that runs tomorrow. You will want to read this one. And Courtney will be in the upcoming "The Body" issue of ESPN Magazine.
Is Bobby LaBonte done?
Bobby may get a ride somewhere for next season, along with more time this season in the 47 and maybe some other car, but he's done as far as being a contending driver.
Do you think Ryan Newman will be at RCR Racing in 2014.
It's definitely a possibility, but not a done deal.
Who will be rembered as the better busch brother when it comes to driving?
That's an interesting question. I think most people assume Kyle has more pure talent, but Kurt is right there with him in the ability to wheel a race car. For now, Kyle has a chance to do more because he's on a much better team, but Kurt still has him 1-0 on Cup titles.
What's with Jeff Gordon's luck the past two years? He's had some really good runs, has been competitive, and still has talent, but he seems to run into some unbelievably bad spells of misfortune. It's too bad to see a bunch of wins and good runs spoiled like that.
It's not just bad luck Frank. The team has made mistakes that have cost them at times.
The work thing got in the way again. I'll catch up later. How was the Bay Area? Especially Chinatown...
I love San Fran Keith. Had a wonderful time Saturday night at Fisherman's Wharf and some great dinners downtown. And driving across the Golden Gate bridge never gets old to me. Now it's off to Kentucky in the morning. Nice state, but not quite the same, to say the least.
Any truth Kentucky is only expecting 50,000 this weekend?
I haven't heard that, but I'd be shocked if the crowd was that small. Kentucky Speedway officials did a masterful job last year correcting all the traffic issues from the first race.
Do you think Kurt will stay at Furniture Row next year or look for a ride somewhere else?
He'll look around, but there just aren't many options. If I'm Childress, I would put him in the 29, but he may be leaning toward Newman.
Do the Kentucky fans mostly come from accross the river in Ohio?
Lots of fans come from Cincy, but Kentucky also draws a lot of fans from Indiana, Illinois and Tennessee.
What track most similarly compares to the Kentucky track? Charlotte? Chicago? Fontana? Miami? All of these?
Probably Chicago out of those, but one of the biggest falsehoods in NASCAR is the feeling that all 1.5-mile ovals are the same _ the cookie-cutter theory. It's just ain't true.
Is Dave Blaney on an 18 year 500 race losing streak or does a driver have to have first won a race to start a losing streak?
It's still a losing streak, but Blaney rarely has driven a car capable of winning.
Over/under: 1 win for the 78 this year.
I'd predict one win for Kurt in 2013.
Wasn't Kurt Busch's comeback at Sonoma impressive?
It really was Brenda, but more impressive to me was the way he conducted himself in the interview afterward. He was clam and polite and took the blame for the two pit-road speeding penalties. That's the kind of thing that will earn him another quality ride. Everybody knows he can drive. If he can control his emotions, he will be back at the top soon.
Hey Terry - will Toyota be back to normal at Kentucky or will they continue with their toned down engines? Thanks!
Probably somewhere in between Bob. But I think JGR and MWR will have cars capable of winning this weekend.
As Rowdy Busch fans we just feel like his bad luck is destroying the #18 season. What can Rowdy, Dave and the #18 guys do to turn around their season? Thanks.
Just keep plugging away, knowing you have a quality team, quality equipment and quality driver. It all will even out in the end, but getting punted twice at Sonoma definitely was a tough break. That could be some of the old saying "I will drive you the way you drive me."
I fixed your sentence. Masterful and the people running Kentucky Speedway do no belong together."Kentucky Speedway officials did the job last year they were supposed to do instead of the horrible job they did the first race.
Everybody deserves a second chance Joe. They made a mistake and they fixed it, spending millions of dollars in the process. That's all you can ask of them.
How about Road America in cup and Sonoma moved to the Chase?
Works for me Ron. The last two RA Nationwide races have been a blast to watch. I saw RA officials have started lobbying for a Cup date. It's a longshot at best.
How was your visit to wine country this year?
I stayed in downtown SF this trip Ron, so didn't do the vineyard stuff this time. But it was a great trip and the weather was perfect until race time on Sunday.
You have to pick one driver to win at Kentuckeee. Who is it?
If I can only pick one, I'd go with JJ, but that would be true most weekends.
JPM was very unlucky again. Had 2nd wrapped up.
Montoya is an outstanding road racer, but I have to say that ending was pretty funny. It was almost like Talladega Nights. We were wondering if he would get out of the car and push it across the line, but that wouldn't have counted. He managed to get it over the line and the crowd went nuts.
Between 2 drivers in a "B" Class Fantasy pick this week, would you go with Logano, or Menard at KY Speedway? If had to pick.
Joey, hands down.
Somebody tweeted that the 16 & 99 were racing each other hard and pointing fingers at each other at the same time. I doubt there is peace between them.
Lesson 1: Don't believe everything on Twitter.
Do you see Rowdy giving Edwards or Montoya the chrome horn this week as payback?
This isn't a track where you want to try that. Very risky and dangerous.
So, if it is raining and NASCAR is at a road course, the Nationwide series runs, but not the cup. Do you think the Cup series should run if it is raining(to a point) if they are racing on a road course?
I do, but they couldn't on Sunday because they didn't have any rain tires, or wipers. But I think they should race unless it's a torrential downpour.
Danica Patrick with another bad showing. She was never that good on road courses in open wheel. Why expect her to be good in the Sprint cup cars? How long will Go Daddy put up with her poor results while watching Hinch keep winning?
Danica was very good last year in the Nationwide road races, so many people thought she would do well in the Cup road races. But the Cup cars have so much more horsepower and she struggled with that. As for Go Daddy, she brings that company tons of attention no other driver could bring them.
Take an educated guess. Dale Jrs next sponser?
I always wondered why Wal-Mart doesn't sponsor a car full time. The expense is a drop in the bucket for them. And Jr. would seem like a perfect fit. It isn't them, I don't think, but it puzzles me why Wal-Mart doesn't do it.
Should every driver that wins a championship be in the HOF? I don't.
Not to me. Voters should consider everything to determine if a driver is Hall worthy.
Do you see any driver winning 5 championships like Jimmie Johnson who is currently running in the sprint cup series.
Obviously, Gordon could do it. He only needs one more. And Stewart might get there. Of the drivers who don't have any yet, who knows. It's extremely difficult.
Isn't what Carl did to Kyle the same as what Carl accused Brad of doing to him at Atlanta a few years ago? Funny how it was so wrong, according to Carl, when it was Carl on the receiving end, but no big deal, according to Carl, when Carl did it to somebody else.
Not even close to the same. Carl bumped Kyle at 40 mph on a road course. Brad and Carl were racing at high speeds at Atlanta. But I don't think Brad did anything wrong that day. Carl did a lot wrong in deliberately wrecking Brad late in that race.
Looking back a few Years ago. If Jr. would've gotten Letarte instead of McGrew for those two years. Does he have more wins now?
No, not in my opinion. Steve has been great for Junior.
How Rowdy ever forgiven #2 for Watkins Glen and do you see Kyle retaliating vs. Montyota, Edwards and #2 at The Glen?
Now that's a payback or two I could see, and I'm not big of the whole idea of paybacks. It doesn't happen near as much as people think. But The Glen could be get even time.
I also disagree that Dale Jarrett shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, I feel he is definitely deserving. I get that he is a one-time champion but he did not have just one good year. He really was a force to reckon with from the early-mid 90s through the early 2000s. Three Daytona 500 victories is nothing to sneeze at either. He and Mark Martin were the single greatest Ford drivers through that entire time period. Aside from Jeff Gordon and Dale Sr. he was your only champion, along with Bobby Labonte. That's stiff competition.
And it isn't just about driving Jeremy. Look at everything Dale has done for the sport as a broadcaster and a man who has represented the sport in the best possible light. That's what I mean about factoring in everything.
Why do people always ask about retaliation? It hardly ever happens so to me its not even worth discussing.
For the most part, I agree AJ. But anger between drivers is something fans like.
why do u think that they raced in the rain sunday
It was barely sprinkling. No one was in any danger.
If Furniture row was able to keep Kurt Busch, could they build an organization around him that would let them be at the same level as RCR next year?
Not next year, but maybe in a few years if they add another car and gain sponsorship beyond the team owner. Right now they're just happy to have an alliance with RCR.
Terry, Do you think the Ford teams finally got a handle on things or is it still too early to tell?
We're really just talking about Roush here because Petty isn't a serious contender as far as the championship goes. I think Biff's team has hit on something and Carl isn't far off.
mY QUESTION was if Steve Letarte had been with Jr. since 2008 when Eury Jr left does Jr have more wins? I feel like 2 years were wasted with McGrew
Oh, gotcha. Yes, I agree with that. Jr. would have more wins.
Terry, do you think Labonte is doing more damage to what remains of his reputation by continuing to hang on? Why doesn't he do like Rudd, DJ and those guys and hang it up?
It's hard to quit when team owners are offering you a lot of money to drive their car. And many drivers in the past hung around too long. Darrell Waltrip might be the best example. Bobby probably hopes he can have one last good run or races to show he still has it.
Any chance Casey Mears gets another shot in good equipment? When he lost the RCR ride funding and sponsorships were the reason. He was flying in that car when he got a stable CC. I'd love to see he get one again.
Maybe, but age starts becoming a factor here. They are so many talented young drivers coming up _ Larson, for example. Chase Elliott and others. Rides will go to the youth of the sport, which is what many sponsors want.
When Gordon decides to retire does he still drive in a few races? Like maybe Daytona and Sonoma? Or when he walks away from the 24 he is 100% done?
I don't see Gordon doing any one-offs. He'll walk away clean. He has many other interests in his life and he certainly doesn't need the money.
Will the carolina Panthers make the playoffs?
I'll vote no on that one.
I read that Newman has inquired to FRR if they would run a 2nd car next year. Could we see Kurt and Newman back as teammates?
Maybe, if Ryan can bring sponsorship like Quicken Loans. But if Newman goes to FRR, I see Kurt going to RCR.
If the 24 misses the chase this year, is AG's job safe?
No one's job is completely safe in Cup if you don't get the job done. I don't think Rick is looking to make a change, but he also has proven he isn't afraid to shake things up if he feels it will make his teams better.
Gotta runs folks. Thanks for joining in today after the confusion over the start time. I have to pack for Kentucky and leave in the morning. Hve a great week. And check out my story tomorrow on Courtney and Jhn Force. Peace.
