Good afternoon everyone...it's hot here in North Carolina and I hope you have a piece of shade...or a nice big air conditioner if you need one...Now, let's get this partaaayyy started!
I would like to put Shrub on my team but last race drivers abused him and he did nothing. He is beginning to remind me of the old Joey. Have the drivers caught on that Shrub will do nothing like he did when Grandpa Childress took off his watch and had a "coming to Jesus talk" with Shrub?
Easy Rosie...The Shrub still has some bark on the limbs and he'll bite if he needs to. He's in a tweener position right now. He's got to be a little careful to make sure he stays in the top-10 to keep a guaranteed spot for the Chase. On the other hand, with two wins he's a lock for a wild card at this point, but that is not assured. Plus, a lot of drivers get abused at Sonoma..Jeff Burton got abused there Sunday too spun out of a decent finish..The Childress deal is a distant memory to him and everyone else in the garage.
Who do you think will win the Feed the Children 300 & the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky?
I'm thinking Kyle Busch on Friday night and Kasey Kahne or Matt Kenseth on Saturday night Chris.
Howdy, The 5 and the 18. I thought they would lead the Cup Garage in wins! Are you still on board this Sat. night? Thanks, Bill
Believe it or not, the numbers add up for both Saturday night, especially Kahne. So either call me a genius, crazy, a cab, or a glutton for punishment but they are very high in my rankings this week based on intermediate performance this year and past Kentucky stats of which there are only two years.
Do you think that there will be any Parking Problems this Year at Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400?
No, they solved that in a big way last year. Huge parking lot across the street with a big tunnel and shuttles to get you back and forth. Parking and traffic not a problem at Kentucky and its a shame they had the issues they did in 2011.
My top ten, 48 99 29 20 18 5 2 15 11 88, how close are we this week?
I don't think we are really that close this time around Don...my pre-race top-30...1.Kasey Kahne2.Matt Kenseth3.Kurt Busch4.Kyle Busch5.Brad Keselowski6.Jimmie Johnson7.Martin Truex, Jr.8.Denny Hamlin9.Kevin Harvick10.Clint Bowyer11.Carl Edwards12.Tony Stewart13.Greg Biffle14.Joey Logano15.Jeff Gordon16.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.17.Ryan Newman18.Jeff Burton19.Paul Menard20.Jamie McMurray21.Marcos Ambrose22.Juan Pablo Montoya23.Brian Vickers24.Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.25.Aric Almirola26.Casey Mears27.Austin Dillon28.A.J. Mark, buddy I had a epic week of all cars in the top 10 until Montoya ran out of fuel last week. Still scored a 189. Sending this in really early b/c I have to do some HW before my class Saturday for MBA program. Anyways, for KY this weekend I have on Y!: 20-18-88-51, however I have 7 starts left w/the 17 and thinking I should use one of them at KY. Then on ESPN this week I have: 48-29-5-18-55, thoughts on that?
Nick I like the 20 and 18...not very bullish going in on Junior...51 with Dillon should be even up with 17..I'd try the 17 at New Hampshire to see if testing there yesterday and today really helps..to see if he "gets it"..until then a little experimenting wouldn't hurt. I'd wait for practice and qualifying before locking in fourth Y! pick..As for ESPN..55 needs to come through top-15 and you could be in good shape.
Why is Tony Stewart's last 2 finishes at Michigan have not measured up to his usual summer hot streaks? Also, What to look for in locking in a team at Michigan this week..practice.. starting position? Sometimes it's difficult to go on past history with so many track changes and new car design. Thanks brother!
Yo Jason...race is at Kentucky this week...just saying..lol
If Dale Jr. finally gets a win at the Quaker State 400 will he have a real chance at winning the Sprint Cup?
It would certainly put him in better standing for usre Lalaqueesha. Five of the last 10 races that make up the Chase are on 1.5-mile tracks so a Kentucky win would catch people's attention.
Thoughts and predictions on what Jeff Gordon can do this weekend at Kentucky?
He's a guy Logan I really struggled with in my preliminary rankings. He was fifth last year and tenth the year before, but just doesn't feel real solid to me right now. It's hard to figure because he's still one of the best drivers out there and Alan Gustafson is good crew chief. I'd say he's a lock top 15, which is why I ranked him 15th, and a possible top-10.
Top 5 and a dark horse for this weekend?
I've already put my rankings out there Logan, but if I were looking for a dark-horse how about Kevin Harvick. He's never done much at Kentucky, but he did win Charlotte and RCR used one of the official tests at Kentucky. So he could be loaded for bear.
Hey one last thing Guru, great job on calling the race at Sonoma. I listened to the PRN broadcast while watching the race with the TV sound turned down. The radio broadcast had superior coverage.
Thanks for the props!
Hey Guru. I'm looking to rebound after the 42 and the 14 let me down last week. Two questions:I'm thinking 78, 18, 2 & 11 for my first four picks. Any concerns there? With 21.9 left to spend, who do you think will give me my biggest bang for my bucks?
Nothing really wrong with those first four picks..and with 21.9 left I'd probably go after the 29, who's value is 21.8. But instead of the 2 I'd probably take the 20 at the same price and might trade the 18 for the 5...just a thought or two.
Who would be a better B driver pick this weekend? Kyle or Carl? History says Kyle but I'm still worried about Toyota's problems.
I'd stick with Kyle Matt. Toyota has had enough time to deal with their engine deal.
Is Denny a good fantasy pick going forward? Something tells me he's going to get real gutsy soon which could turn him into a make or break wild card.
Hamlin at 18.3 is hard to pass up I'll tell you that. A floor of him and Tony Stewart 18.9 would leave some cap space for sure.
Do you think Keslowski has a chance to win all 3 races this weekend?
Jason he certainly has a chance, but he won't.
So you took my advice and grabbed Harvick last week?:) Top 10 baby!
It's all you Nate...I took Harvick, gambling he'd be 12th or better and knowing he tested at Kentucky...plus your advice kept ringing in my ear...like a record skipping after it gets scratched..lol
Do you think this is the weekend the #2 pulls thru and wins a Cup race Saturday night?
He could Bill because he likes to slide around and Kentucky is wore out with no grip hardly at all. That's the way the drivers like them, especially BradK.
Wow, you have Kurt ranked #3. Do you think he has a legitamit shot this week?
Bobby everybody in the garage is sitting up and taking notice with how much speed the 78 seems to have week in and week out...Even Jimmie Johnson said last week they were "crushing it" and were "on raw speed the fastest or one of the top three fastest for weeks now." They keep running like they have been it's only a matter of when and where.
Hello Guru! With Kentucky being a track with less history to draw on, are this year's cookie-cutter results a better measure of who might perform well? Also, are the Toyota engines fixed for this track type?
First Jonathan I do think Toyota has a handle again on their engines...a lot of time and money have been poured into those motors the last couple of weeks. Secondly, I really believe if you look at Texas and Charlotte, especially Charlotte, they could be good barometers for this weekend. 11 of the top-15 at Texas last year were also top-15 at Kentucky. Seven of top-10 at Charlotte were top-10 at Kentucky...those two races shared three guys who were top-5 in both.
What Speedway did the Most Women Competed in a Sprint Cup Series Race at?
Sorry Chris I don't have a clue on that one.
I feel you! I'm just glad you finally gave the proper credit! Maybe next time a shout out on the preview for the next weeks race! hahah
Okay...now we'll just start calling you "little g"...lol
Hey guru! Since KY is new to the circuit, I have no clue on who to look for? And also, with saving up Kurt Busch a whole 1.0, what should I do? Thanks again!
Jeremy I think Kurt Busch is still not a bad idea..
Works for me! However, given my salary cap. I can't pick everyone I want so I settled with 78, 20, 2, 5, and 18. I know that's a team you can appreciate!
I can little with that lil g ..word
A couple of non-fantasy questions Mark, 1) Do you think the 78 can continue to run up front not this year but on a continuous basis say in '14? I think eventually the big teams distance themselves. 2)Also, heard some speculation about Jeff Burton's future and him being out after this year, any insight?
Furniture Row has really locked themselves in hip to hip with RCR so they are really not a one car team anymore and they have helped up RCR's game too. I see this team getting better and faster for a little while longer at least..Not sure what's up with Jeff...until he got run over at Sonoma..was 12th, 11th, 11th, and tenth..so they had a good run going..that coincides with RCR doing a lot of testing in particular for the bigger tracks. I've been told Burton has one more year left on current contract so that helps...and I guess a lot depends on who they wire in to take Harvick's place.
follow @dreamchasin8 Mark!
With RCR testing at Kentucky you think it helped Harvick but Burton and Menard are still barely top 20. Hmmm?
I think it helped Burton and Menard but I'm not sure just how much. I figured practice and qualifying would give me that answer. Menard has been a little better than top-20 all year on the 1.5-milers..Burton beat him by a spot 12th to 13th at Charlotte so we'll have to see if he can repeat that...my thinking he can and could be a dark-horse top-10 Saturday night if he doesn't have any major problems.
Do you see the 56 going on a little bit of a tear after finally getting a win?
I could see that happening Jon yes. He should be top-10 or better this weekend..but neither Daytona or New Hampshire have been all that great for him in the past...however a boost of confidence could put them over the top..it's happened before and could happen again.
My team this week, 11 15 48 56 78, show me the money.
That should be a pretty good team...but me no show you the money without the 20 on your team instead of 15...20 will be hunting the win...15 is going to play it safe. I talked with Bowyer's crew chief Brian Pattie at length at Sonoma..they just want any kind of a single digit finish through at least Daytona.. after that they might start going for it, but not until then unless one falls in their lap. Strategy proved that last week. If they stay out they may challenge for the win..but pitting they locked in a top-10 and that's what they chose...Plus, have you seen Kesenth's stats this year on intermediate speedways? Duh
Final word, Carl Edwards wins this week. Agree?
No..do not agree on that one..top-10 but not a win.
What Year was the Very First Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway?
That was 2011.
Hey Buddy, I will be at the race on saturday night and the internet signal there is bad to put it nicely so I need to lock my team in before friday morning when I leave for the track. This is my intial thought: 20,5,18,78,11 What do you think oh wise one?
I can live with that Kevin..It has "show me the money" po-tential...make sure you have a scanner and can listen to the PRN broadcast at 454.000
Interesting bit of info there Mark, hence the nickname the "Guru" lol. Read an interesting article on Foxsports.com about 2014 and particularly Kurt Busch. You think he should stay at Furniture Row for at least another year?
He's got a good situation building there right now with crew chief Todd Berrier and owner Barney Visser. Busch also doesn't have a lot of sponsor pressure there to do deal with so at this point in time what's to be unhappy about? He's a special talent for sure..but maybe he stays put and like that article talked about..maybe he gets a teammate...somebody like Ryan Newman? You never know.
How does a team of 29,18,56,22,78 look to you for ESPN to fit my budget perfectly? For Y! I'm thinking A) 29 over 5, B) 22,56 over 18,78 and C) 51 over 17. I'd go with the 18 but only have 4 starts left...should I burn one this week? Thanks as always!
Interesting ESPN team Jonathan...I have some questions about the 22 in regards to Kentucky but other four are "gamers" and Logano might be as well. The 22 was fifth at both Charlotte and Texas. As for the Y! team..I'd have 5 over 29...18 and 78 over 22 and 56 and 17 over 51..a complete flip-flop there between you and I.
Mark....Is there anything more embarrassing than the drive to your pit or hauler after wrecking your car before the race even starts like the 52 had to do Sunday? Ouch! For Kentucky, I'm thinking of going outside the box and picking 5 drivers who are running really well right now- 29,22,24,78 and 56. The hot driver theory.
Poor Paulie that was an inauspicious debut don't you think?..lol...All five of those guys have po-tential at Kentucky and that's decent reasoning..except some have been on tracks not anywhere close to Kentucky's size, shape and banking...just a thought.
I'm going to start Harvick this week after 7 straight top 10s. Will he end up being a flop?
I sure hope not Christian because he's going to be on my team again.
5,78,18,14,15...What u think Guru?
A different road there Ellis..All will have top-10 potential so that's not bad for sure...Daring to be great right?
I have Kevin, Kurt, Kyle, Kasey, and Juan Pablo. any suggestions beside Brad K?
I'd rather have Burton at the same price as Montoya, at least going in and I'd see what Vickers did in the 55 during practice because he could be a real sleeper.
One last question Mark, before I buckle down and do homework. Any hope for my Ford boys in the bluegrass state this weekend or they going to be lagging behind again?
Edwards and Biffle always have a puncher's chance, but I think too many good Chevys and Toyotas to overcome.
Well that's going to do it for today...Don't forget to catch our Kentucky race day chat at 4:30 eastern Saturday afternoon..Until then have a great week...Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
