It's the fastest hour in golf!! DH Lee flips the bird at a spectator then shoots 30 on the front nine Sunday. Jessica Korda fires her caddie after 9 holes FRIDAY, Inbee is the Queen Bee, and Bill Haas does what only three other have done. That enough for ya?!?! What you got?!BRING IT!!!
Hey Mr. Collins, I write dumb things on golf posts sometimes. What do you think about the recent Carolroy slump? Rory's been making a lot of changes this year, I think there's another one coming up. Just an opinion, you're funny as heck man, stay cool.
Appreciate ya being here Ty. Rory and Caroline seem to be having trouble "flipping the switch" back to the on position since they've gotten somewhat serious with their relationship. Rory though is just putting so much pressure on himself since switching to Nike it's really hurting him.
What will be the Next PGA Golf Tournament that Tiger Woods will win?
WGC Bridgestone Invitational
With all the advantages todays golfer has compared to his era (technological advancements, dietary improvements and such)how many more wins (majors) would Jack have if he played today?
I think if Jack played today against these guys with this equipment he'd have less wins. The reason we have had 11 first time winners this year even with Tiger getting four wins is because everyone is that close in talent and ability. The other BIG thing is guys don't have to hit "shots" like they did back in Jack's day because of the golf ball.
how did you like the Korda incident on Fridday where she fired caddy mid round - ever see a fellow looper sent packing mid round on PGA Tour
Heard of it and seen two caddies quit mid round but on a big stage like that after being in contention?! NEVER. My big thing for her is this, when her boyfriend goes back to playing, what good caddie is gonna want to work for her? The best would never take a job with a person like that. Golfers are crazy enough, but that unstable. Maybe her dad needs to work for her for a while.
Why are you talking again, we just heard you on Friday?
I'm here for the same reason you are. Don't act like you don't love it ya little addict!
MC! Just wanted to let you know I watched Kevin Streelman's episode of 'Playing Lessons' on Golf Channel and he helped my putting with an easy mental tip. He said "the best putters don't worry about the hole. They put a good stroke on the right line and let the hole get in the way of the ball". Let Kevin know he helped at least one person out there!
I will convey your message to him as soon as the chat is done and I'm sure he says glad to help.
Michael, 2 questions1. How much is a caddy likely to earn in a year if his player wins $1 million but doesn't win a tournament?2. What types of notes is a player writing down in their yardage book when for example they are standing on the tee of a par 3? I understand getting the yardage but can't figure out what the notes might say. "Don't hit in water?" Thanks!
The first question is tough because it really depends on how and where a player finishes in a tournament that can determine what a caddie makes. i.e. 10th place pays $100k caddie gets 7% on top of weekly salary. Player finishes 20th and makes $48k caddie only gets 5% player does it 20 times and he makes a million. See...
Question 2... yardage book notes. Most of the time our notes tell us the number of extra yards we need to add or subtract if the hole plays up/downhill. Then we have notes on how the green slopes so we can tell our player why he needs to hit a shot seemingly away from the hole. Finally there are notes that tell us where not to miss so we know how to club a guy so if he doesn't hit it perfect he has a better chance to save par.
Good afternoon, MC! The USGA allows women players to wear shorts during competition but not men! Why no discrimination lawsuit about this? (Thankfully ESPN golf analysts are allowed to wear shorts.)
Have you ever seen a PGA Tour pros legs? Most are not very pretty, heck, when's the last time you've seen me do a video showing my legs ( I do have great calves though)Honestly I wish there was a tournament that allowed shorts just to see the reaction, but I'm ok if they don't.
Hii Michael. Watched a good amount of the US Women's Open. What a beautiful course, and a beautiful 4 days of golf by Inbee Park. So, Jessica Korda fires her caddy at the turn. Does that happen very often? Is she just young and blaming things on the caddy?
I got fired AFTER the first round on a Thursday but it's rare and things have to be pretty bad between player and caddie (trust me they were and I wasn't upset), but what Korda did was VERY immature and does not happen very often.
Hey Michael, Any penalties or fines coming D.H. Lee way?
I'm sure he's gonna get fined, but after the round he had Sunday I'd be flipping the bird EVERY Saturday at somebody!
Forget the Caddie! I feel sorry for the boyfriend!!
I'm thinking ten years from now he's gonna be laughing with his buddies and new wife about this girl he dated one time...
Aside from 'show up, keep up and shut up' any good advice for a newbie caddy in an upcoming state am?
Don't let your boy get too up or too down. And don't be afraid to talk stuff other than golf, it will really help get into a good rhythm and take some of the pressure you're both feeling away.
Do loopers ever get to play the golf course after the pros?
Sometimes. I've played a few of the TPC's weeks before the tournaments with my players for fun. And a couple times my guys have taken or gotten me on courses to play. It can be a perk if your player is a generous type of person.
For Geo (NJ) "Show up, Keep Us, Shut Up, and Don't Screw up"
That does NOT sound like a fun way to caddy.
You must know we appreciate you MC when we can be "chatting" with Joey Chestnut, the Nathan's hot dog perennial winner, yet we stay with you! LOL
Betcha I'm a better hotdog eater than he is golfer too!
Considering all the hype that surrounded me before I turned professional....am I the biggest LPGA flop ever?
What ever happened to Michelle Wie?...Thought she was going to be the TW of the LPGA? Only 2 tour victories....wow.
Not even close. You have a win and are still young enough to win multiple times on the LPGA Tour
Say tiger doesn't win the pga or british this year what is the percentage he breaks nicklaus record now
Hard to say percentage wise but I'd say his chances gets less every major he goes without winning and if he doesn't win one next year, the chase is all but over.
How surprised are you that TW is going to gut it out and participate in The Open Championship? What a warrior.
Not surprised but it's a curious move for a guy who always had said he only shows up to win.
Another reason for so many winners is Tiger can't play as many tourneys (kids, injury, etc.) as most players do, therefore more spread out winners. Sigh. Disagree?
Yeah I do disagree. Tiger only plays the tournaments he thinks he can win and other than the Players all his wins have come on the courses he's won LOTS of times. You know why he doesn't play Riviera? Because he can't win there.
Ever get fired mid-way through a chat and got replaced by Harig?Day ain't over yet.
HAHA!! Should I get him on the phone?
How do you think Tiger's injury history compares with other Tour players of around the same age as him?
I don't know any pro that has had as many knee surgeries as Tiger.
Pop quiz: who said, "I can't be in the playoffs unless I win, and that makes winning the No. 1 goal." Hint: he's earned $1.1 million this year on the PGA Tour. Bonus question: how do you like the rule that he has to win to get into the FedEx Cup playoffs?
Jordan Speith and it's a ridiculous rule. His points are supposed to go towards next years FedEx Cup. Can't wait for that... NOT
What happened to your mustache??
Shaving accident last night
I think Korda is getting a bad rap here. People say she was immature. I think it is the opposite, she was obviously in a bad situation with her caddy, the easy thing to do would have been to keep him on the bag through the tournament. She realized she is in the US Open and needed to change immediately, and frankly her results show the change was for the better. If she is as talented as it appears, she'll have no trouble finding another top quality caddy. The new caddy will be confident in his/her ability to loop for her.
Sorry Ed. If things were that bad between her and her caddie then he should never have gotten the start at the US Open. And remind me how horrible she did after round 1? That's where her defense breaks down. What happens when she plays bad next time and her boyfriend isn't on the other side of the ropes to grab the bag?
How does Phil do in The Open in a few weeks? Not great history for him at the tourney, but did have a T2 few years back
For Phil it's all gonna come down to what side of the draw he gets and how the weather is. If gets lucky on the weather he can top 10 it. If the weather is really bad he'll MC
1) What did Bill Haas do that only three others have? 2) Inbee Park is making history in relative privacy. That's a crying shame. I realize she's not Natalie Gulbis cute, but damn (!) why should that matter anymore to get on the attention meter? Or, while we should be past that by now, we aren't.
One win in the last four consecutive years for Haas. And I totally agree with you as far as Inbee Park goes but if she gets the lead at the Women's British Open then watch how hot the spotlight gets for her. It just shouldn't take that long.
How about some love for Kenny Perry finally winning a major? Good on him, he was owed one.
AND he had his old caddie Fred on the bag. That was a win for Caddie Karma as well.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but TW won't win on a course or doesn't fit his eye, whatever. What about the other 155 players who lose on the courses Tiger excels at? Phil and others do the same thing. What's their excuse? Some say it's smart scheduling.
Hey don't get me wrong I ain't hating on Tiger for playing where he has confidence, I was just answering Sunshine's statement about Tiger could win more if he played more. I'm saying no he couldn't. And the other 155 guys don't have the status to make their own schedule like the guys in the top 50 do. But there is a way to fix that... PLAY BETTER!
How is a tournament in WV 2 weeks before the British Open able to get a better field than the AT&T? Looks like a nice resort on TV, just surprised.
"creative" marketing with players. It's not pay for play though. (Oops, did you see my eyes roll?)
PGA tour will adopt putting ban in 2016.
Looks like "anchoring" is toast...wouldn't want golf to be any easier. Why can't we have pro and regular hacker rules? Would you be in favor?
I am not in favor of the ban and will play with ANY hacker that anchors. Also, NO golf course is gonna kick a guy out for using an anchored putter.
Hey, MC....if you are going to use my post back to Geo (NJ) .....don't bogart the language.....
I can't even hint at language like that. You know my paycheck comes from Disney right? C'MON MAN! haha
PGA needs to keep the anchored putters and outlaw the Michelle Wie putting stroke....
Do people really expect the average weekend hacker who anchors their putter to just throw it away come 2016 and go back to a conventional putter? If they have success with it, they have no reason to make the switch. It's not like course marshalls will kick people off the course for anchoring.
In a shocking (not) decision PGA Tour adopted anchor ban. Interestingly they included statement saying in future they reserved the right to not adopt, including on equipment. Is that a preemptive move on possible fight over ball?
And the lawsuits they may lose. All it takes is a judge with an anchored putter or a judge who doesn't play golf. BOTH long shots but...
Yes, Tiger plays to win, but he must keep playing to keep up the OWGR, FedEx and Pres Cup points....showing up and NOT getting more injured, will at least keep him up there.
Here's a really hard truth, Tiger could care less about the FedEx Cup. He also knows that if he wins the OWGR will take care of itself.
Am I missing something on the TW "gutting it out" comment above? The guy has a sore elbow and he's going to have a whole month off in between the two tourneys.. where's the guts?
Good question but for a guy who's now considered injury prone, gutting it out isn't how to catch Jack.
Next time, you, Farrell and Bob shouldn't take off together. Last week sucked.
Sorry about that.
Toughest "typical" shot for a tour pro and same question for the average Joe at the local muni?
Fairway bunker shot from between 30 and 60 yards for a tour pro and any fairway bunker shot for an amateur.
YO YO MC!!!! How you doin my man? Paul Casey - been through heck and back...you think he keeps rising back to where his talent rightfully should land him?
He's gonna be on of my favorites going into the Open in a couple weeks.
Who do you like this week? Sleepers?
Expert Picks should be out tomorrow or Wednesday!
Told ya this was gonna go too fast!! DANG. It's ok though, I'll be back on Friday. SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT CHANNEL!!Thanks y'all. Have a great week.MC@ESPNCaddie on TwitterESPNCaddie@gmail.com
