Chris is here!
congrats on your win Chris. Will you prepare any differently for the rematch?
No. Very similar. Just a little less of a layoff than last time. Nothing different.
How close do you think the kneebar was to submitting him?
Maybe close for a second, but the heel hook was closer.
What is the one question you've been asked the most since winning the belt?
How does it feel to be champion?
Do you think silva's antics were disrespectful to you and the sport.
No. That's just what he does. He does it. He does it with the intent to win. Whatever a guy has to do to get an edge, I don't have a problem with it.
Do you think taking Silva down in the first 30 seconds, landing big shots and almost submitting him is being overlooked by people because of the exciting finish you had?
Yeah, but rightfully so. If you knockout someone, that's going to get the popular vote. Yeah, it's getting overlooked, but rightfully so.
When would you like the rematch to happen?
No preference. Madison Square Garden would be the preference, but that's not happening.
How did you get in shape coming off a bad shoulder injury?
Just slow. You have to take it slow. I have to listen to my body.
Congrats champ! Not exactly an Anderson hater, but was begging for the belt to change and so happy you went out there and did it. Being from such a good wrestling background, what led you to getting into MMA (after college I'm presuming)?
I wanted to provide for my family, and MMA was an outlet for doing that for the rest of my life.
What are your aspirations going forward? P.S. are you going to Disney World now that you have won a championship?
No, I'm going to Hawaii.
Anyone in particular besides Anderson Silva that you would like to fight in the future? Bisping or Belfort maybe?
Whoever the No. 1 contender is. Whoever the fans want to see.
Congratulations champ. Are you a boxing fan and are you looking forward to Mayweather vs Alvarez
I wouldn't call myself a big fan, but I'm interested in seeing that.
Between being a State Champion is HS, a 2 time JUCO All-American, a 2 time NCAA D-1 All-American, and UFC Champion....which one means the most to you?
Up until the UFC championship, it was the NY state championship. But now, the UFC title. For what it brings, you're a world champ.
Chris,Obviously in the rematch Anderson will be more careful and respect your power. Is your game plan for the rematch to take Anderson down to try and finish him, or do you think your stand up is on par enough to strike with him?
Mix it up. If the take down is there, I'll go for it. If not, I'll strike. On the ground, I'm going for ground and pound.
Did you manage to retrieve your hat that was stolen by the fan in the crowd on your way back?
Yeah. I did. My cornerman yoked him up for it.
Chris, would you say that the devastation and experience learned from hurricane sandy helped you at all for this fight?
Yeah. Any time you come out of adversity, it makes you a better person and fighter.
How will you feel if a rematch does not take place?
I'd be disappointed. I want to fight him again.
How confident are you that you would have won the fight if Silva had not resorted to messing around? Do you think he has slowed down at all?
100% confident. That's his game to do that. If he doesn't do that, he wouldn't be as good as he was.
Hey Champ, how have you been enjoying all the media-appearances that come with being the champ?
I've gotten tired, but I'm still enjoying it.
Congrats on your amazing and very well deserved win against Anderson Silva!! How does it feel to achieve what you have worked so long and hard for, and who would you like to fight most to defend your title?
It feels surreal. It still hasn't set in.
What were you thinking when you pushed Spider against the cage with your head at the end of rnd 1? I thought knees were coming flying!
I was just leaning on him. I was letting him hold my weight up and tire himself out.
You showed composure against Silva, is that something fighters must practice separately from there game plan?
You just have to prepare for it. You have to go against other guys in sparring and get used to it.
Hey champ. What is your diet like outside of fight preparation? What do you make sure to eat, what do you avoid, and what are your edible guilty pleasures?
I just try to eat as clean as I can, but I have a lot of cheat foods.
Who's your favorite athlete outside of MMA?
Hmmmm....Tim Tebow, RG III.
Do you feel like you aren't getting enough credit for winning the fight?
No. But I expected that. I expected that before I even got in the ring. No matter what I do, submit him, decision or knock him out, I wasn't going to get full credit. People think he's unbeatable.
Who was your favorite NFL and NHL teams growing up?
Islanders for hockey. NFL, it was just the NY teams. Jets and Giants, whoever was doing good.
Would you prefer to rematch as soon as possible to show everyone, maybe even yourself, that it wasn't a fluke, or are you more in the mindset of defending against all comers, regardless of if/when Silva wants to fight again for the title?
I think we'll be fighting in December of February. That sounds good to me.
Would you ever consider moving up a division?
Not until I'm done with middleweight.
Loved hearing you on the Covino & Rich show yesterday. Who did you most fear or least want to wrestle in college? #keepwrestlinginthegames
I didn't really have a straight forward rival.
Thanks to everybody who's believed in me. Thanks for the support.
