Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:05 PM)

Greetings all. Nice to see you.

Arpan (Bloomington In)

paul what expctations would u give andrew luck?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:05 PM)

I think he'll be very good again. Higher completion percentage because of the system. Far better protection. Worry about WR depth for him.

sawyer10311 (Houston-ish)

PK, can you describe a rookie conditioning test?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:07 PM)

Depends on team and position. Usually, primarily, based on running a certain distance or certain number of gassers in an alloted time.

Dan (Iowa)

Hey PK, say you were gifted an expansion franchise and could take any 5 players you wanted from the AFC South to build your team around. Who would they be? Give me Luck, Watt, Cyprien, Joeckel, and Dwayne Allen.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:08 PM)

Yours is a good list. I'll go Luck, Watt, Joeckel, Warmack and Cyprien, how about?

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Mincey commented that the Jags' secondary is looking better than he's ever seen. Think he's blowing smoke or do you think the seconday has a chance to be okay this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:09 PM)

I think he's just excited that they will be more aggressive. D-line perspective is that will help.

Chris (Tenn)

From Munchaks comments, it sounds like they focused heavily on line play on both sides of the ball this season. In my opinion thats the best thing he's ever said, winning teams control the line of scrimmage like the Ravens did in last years playoffs. Do you think that will be enough to improve this team to wild card contention?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:09 PM)

I loved what he said. But still, you have to have good quarterback play. And we don't know if they are going to get that. Playoff contention hinges on that.

Chris (Tenn)

At what point does not having Warmack in camp become a concern?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:11 PM)

They will install everything over the first eight days -- repeating what they did in offseason, but with corrections for what went wrong and new emphasis and obviously, on some days, pads. If he misses beyond that, I'd be concerned. I cannot imagine a player would miss anything close. I understand wanting to win offset language. But in the end, the player should tell the agent: "I'm not getting cut, so it does not matter."

Mari IL [via mobile]

Who is the best qb and wr connnection in 3 years in the division wayne or another wr if wayne retired and luck, johnson and schaub, locker and wright, jacksonville qb and blackmon

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:12 PM)

Luck and TBD.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who will be the Best AFC South Team of 2013?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:13 PM)

Not ready to say. But I believe Houston still has the most talent.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Do you think Cecil Shorts will have more yards receiving than MJD runs for?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:13 PM)

Probably.

Gary (London UK)

What are your expectations for the Jags Defense? Improved from last year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:14 PM)

I expect improvement everywhere. It's hard to get worse than 2-14, 20 sacks by defense, 189-point differential, etc.

C. Johnson (the zoo)

Racing this cheetah wasn't such a good idea. I'll go back to 4.1 ypc and 1,200 yards.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:16 PM)

The woman I talked to for my blog post on cheetahs was on my radio show too. Colleague asked her what animal would be a better competition. She said a greyhound or an elephant. I wonder if CJ will think an elephant would be below him? Will ask.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

I think the dream scenario (other than winning the SB) for the Jags this year is that their offense is great, but they can't generate any pass rush and their defense is gouged for 40+ a game. But Gabbert looks pretty okay. They get the number 1 pick next year and can draft Clowney instead of a QB......thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:16 PM)

Pretty big dream. Even QB needy, perhaps you can draft Clowney and get the QB in the second round or with a move up?

Andrew (Bloomington In)

As a Colts you cant help but wonder whether Andrew luck will have a sophomore slump. But will it happen? Your thoughts.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:17 PM)

He'll have better protection, which was his biggest issue. I just don't see why he'd be worse or how he can be "figured out."

HG (Oboro KY)

Better converted soccer player, CJ, Hunter, Britt, Locker?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:17 PM)

My gut says Britt or Locker, if you're asking me who I imagine would be better at playing soccer of that group.

RR Ford (IN)

When you go to training camps are you looking at specifics like position battles or do you look to get a feel for the team as whole?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:18 PM)

Some of both. Hard to watch everything. So I target people and positions at times.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Which of these things are more likely in your opinion.....Chad Henne starts week 1 or Chad Henne is not on the roster on week 1?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:19 PM)

I don't think either is at all likely. More likely he starts than is cut.

Todd (Indy)

Would it be in poor taste to wear my #18 Colts Jersey to the Colts v Broncos game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:20 PM)

I would bet half the crowd will do it. I am not a jersey guy AT ALL (though I am a NJ guy). But in this situation I find myself approving.

Brent (Chicago)

Other than Werner, which Colts' rookie do you having the most impact for the team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:20 PM)

Got to be one of the O-linemen. Could be Montori Hughes.

Todd (Indy)

Did you happen to hear any follow up from the Donald Jones tryout?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:21 PM)

No contract talk with Tennessee. Haven't check in with Colts.

Pauls (Indy)

Do you see any big names getting cut in the Division.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:21 PM)

Really hard for me to predict cuts before a snap of camp.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

So let's say the Jags season plays out how many expect....QB play is awful and they lose 10+ games and end up with the number 1 pick. Clowney is a once-in-a-decade prospect but there is a QB prospect they like a ton......if you're Caldwell, who do you take?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:22 PM)

Right now I lean Clowney, but it's only because I haven't seen that emerging QB be excellent yet and I have seen Clowney be superb. I bet Caldwell would be true to his board.

Tim (Nashville)

PK as a Yankee fan what are your thoughts on AROD

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:23 PM)

Would love for him to disappear. Forever.

CJ (Tenn)

I dont have to be faster than the cheetah just faster than Hester.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:23 PM)

I would take you in a race against Hester.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

I don't see MJD's situation with the Jags ending well for him. Even if he has a 1000 yd, 7 TD season, he's still well past his prime and they'll offer him a contract that reflects that. Your thoughts on how it plays out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:24 PM)

I'm not sure they'll offer him a contract at all.

HG (Oboro, KY)

Bullish or Bearish on Locker? Have to pick one....

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:25 PM)

I don't have high expectations. But I owe him at least a year more before a judgment.

Jerry (Mass)

Who is the best qb In the division.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:25 PM)

Luck, unquestionably.

Mark (TN)

Who wins in a battle royale with all the 104.5 hosts involved?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:26 PM)

A battle of what? Wits? Braun? Checkers?

Jared (New York)

I keep hearing positive things about Josh Chapman. What are the chances he is our starting NT week 1?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:26 PM)

I'd say 61 percent.

Arpan (Bloomington In)

If the Colts signed Donald Jones could he be an impact to the receiving corps? If so how?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:27 PM)

Possession slot type, maybe fourth in line.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

In your opinion....who's the better QB, Gabbert or Henne? I think the Jags have to start Gabbert just to close that chapter and make sure it wasn't poor o-line play.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:27 PM)

I agree with you. When I watched practices and neither was impressive, then my thinking is they've got to give Gabbert one last, big chance.

DHB (Indy)

Any chance I'm in Indy next year? If I stink I don't get resigned,if I'm good someone will give me more money than Indy.So I should rent no buy right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:28 PM)

If you're good and they are fair, you'd want to stay in a situation you liked, with a quarterback you know is locked in.

FacebookCommentGuy (Al Gore's Invention)

It's pretty lonely in the comment section lately; do you miss everyone as much as I do?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:28 PM)

All I can do is look at the comments that are there.

RR Ford (IN)

I'm going to my first Colts training camp next week.Any pointers on what to look for?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:31 PM)

Get as close as you can to the Jugs machine that throws passes. It's usually kind of near the tennis courts. Before or after practice, Wayne will be there. Watching him work on that is something to behold. Bring binoculars in case you can't get close.

Mark (TN)

All 3: Wits, Braun and checkers.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:33 PM)

Wits: Midday. Braun: WUZ based on Wycheck. I'll give 3HL checkers as I don't care.

A-Rod (Rehab)

Would your opinion change if I sent you a jersey?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:33 PM)

No. I don't do jerseys.

Tim (TN)

Are you playing fantasy football this year? If so who are your top 5?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:36 PM)

Yes, I play. Won't draft until as late as possible. No idea of rankings yet.

Collin (Dallas)

Who starts at RT for Texans week 1?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:37 PM)

I'd guess Newton if healthy.

Todd (Indy)

Do all of the AFC South teams go off campus for training camp? Do you have a favorite place to check out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:39 PM)

Only Colts go off campus. Lemon Drop in Anderson is a must lunch.

Jason (Brooklyn, NY)

Who would you say averages more touches per game, Justin Forsett or Denard Robinson?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:41 PM)

I hope Robinson. If it's Forsett it's probably because MJD is having some sort of issue.

Jamey (Kentucky )

With a more than capable quarterback does DHB finally live up to being a 1st round round selection?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:42 PM)

I think expectations for him are too high. But he'll be better than Avery.

TJ (Houston)

Would you take the O/U on 11, for how many games Ed Reed plays this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:44 PM)

Over. I'd set over-under at 12.5.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Massaquoi.....JAG (just another guy) or a nice signing for the Jags who will contribute for a couple of years?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:45 PM)

Better depth than they had. But not great.

Jamey (Kentucky )

What are some realistic expectations for Ahmad Bradshaw this year? If healthy he can give Indy 1,000 yards and a handful of TD's right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:46 PM)

Possible, yes.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Not that it matters, but if I were starting a franchise and choosing 5 players, I'd go with guys that have actually played in the NFL and shown they can succeed...Luck, Watt, Joseph, Eugene Monroe and Justin Blackmon..nto saying your wrong, just my $.02

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:47 PM)

Joseph is a good choice. Can't take Blackmon given one violation from a year suspension.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Think the move of Alualu outside to DE does anything for his career? Isn't it ridiculous that he was robbed of most of his burst in a stupid Oklahoma drill?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:49 PM)

It can't hurt him. And they certainly want and need him to succeed. JDR has gotten off lightly on that. I hope one day Tyson will spell it out.

Maggie (DC)

First impressions of Dave Caldwell?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:49 PM)

I think he knows what he's doing, is off to a good start and is going to be excellent.

Jamey (Kentucky)

Which second year qb would you want starting for your team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:50 PM)

Luck. He's far less likely to get hurt than RG III or Wilson. And while he can run, he's more of a pocket guy, which I prefer.

Midge ( INDY)

Best camp battle for the Colts,G or NT?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:51 PM)

Both very good.

Midge ( INDY)

Why do teams put guys on PUP list before camp,to get an extra roster spot for camp bodies for workouts ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:52 PM)

It's insurance, more than anything. You can't be put on PUP except before camp. So if you don't get well or have a setback, it allows you to have him in a place in season where he doesn't count as a spot and can re-emerge.

Jason (Tennessee)

Do you think the Titans will regret not signing John Abraham or one of the other available stud D lineman???????

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:54 PM)

If he's a stud D-lineman, why doesn't he have a team? I would have preferred Michael Bennett. I'm not sure they've done enough at DE or for the pass rush.

Midge ( INDY)

Think if I'm taking 5 guys have to find a way to get Duane Brown in there.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:54 PM)

Also an excellent selection. Joeckel younger and cheaper so has a bit of extra appeal there.

Midge ( INDY)

Barring injury to Chapman or Franklin does McKinney make the team? Just don't see 3 NT plus RJF can also play there.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:54 PM)

It will probably be tough.

Jason (Brooklyn, NY)

Is Fleener a better fantasy option than Allen this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:55 PM)

I think camp/preseason will tell. He probably should be.

Brian (Charlottesville, VA )

Think Evans really has a shot to beatout Lowery at a safety spot?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:55 PM)

Doubt it. Lowery is a really smart player.

Todd (Indy)

Any thoughts on the 3 Colts that got in trouble this off season? You think they will make the roster knowing that they are going to miss games?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:58 PM)

Well they go on a reserve list during suspension, so it's not like they take up a roster spot. Neither were locks. Saunders is no big deal. May have been a long shot anyway. Brazill may prove worth keeping. Lefeged is good special teamer, decent depth.

Collin (Dallas)

Have you heard anything about Ben Tate so far?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:58 PM)

What is it I am supposed to be hearing?

Keith H (Seattle)

How about the odds on A-Rod ever being invited to the Old Timer's Game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:59 PM)

0.0

Collin (Dallas)

What are your thoughts on the CB depth for the Texans? Ditto for NT

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:03 PM)

Don't have a lot of confidence in Harris or Carmichael. Know very little of undrafteds at this point. Probably can't afford to be without Joseph or Jackson. Earl Mitchell isn't staying in the field long, but if he's hurt, Chris Jones is it.

Hanson (DC)

Training camps will be hot, drink plenty of water and an occasional sports drink eat light plenty of sun screen and write 6-8 blogs a day.Have a nice day PK.

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:04 PM)

You know I've been before, right? But I appreciate the reminders.

Jason (Brooklyn, NY)

In your opinion, the greatest album of all time is .....

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:04 PM)

Born to Run.

Jason (Brooklyn, NY)

Now I know what to tell Gus to play at practice next time you are in Jacksonville.

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:07 PM)

For as long as I remember, I've said I'll only dance to "Love Shack." This week on radio I admitted I'd dance to "Blurred Lines." Catchy tune.

Billy (Madison)

Best video game ever? Mortal Kombat or Donkey Kong?

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:09 PM)

Tempest.

Frank Sinatra (Heaven)

And now, the end is near...

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:10 PM)

Don't be sad. I'll be back in the week. Or at a camp practice.
