Let's do this thing!
This question arises out of fantasy research, but isn't necessarily a fantasy question.....What is Reggie Bush's upside in Detroit? I ask because he was ranked as the 23rd RB, behind Chris Ivory and Montee Ball and Demarco Murray. Isn't his upside higher than them? Or am I delusional.
I expect Bush to catch a ton of passes and be a great addition to that O, but he prob won't score a ton of TDs...so I guess it depends on your league scoring. But I would def take him over Ivory or Ball
What divison carries the teams that should get the wild cards in the NFC and AFC
Would surprise me if the AFC North and NFC West both didn't have at least one Wild Card. I also think the Bears get in, but the Pack wins that division. In the AFC, it is way more open and I could see Cincy, Pittsburgh, Indy, Miami & KC fighting for two spots-that is, if Balt wins the division
Will Montario Hardesty keep his roster spot on the Browns?
He isn't a help on special teams, which really hurts his case. And by all accounts, Dion Lewis has really done well since joining the team. But Lewis can't handle a heavy workload. I give Hardesty 50/50
I've seen in recent weeks you expressing concern about Manning playing in cold in January. Isn't that unfair when Brady played worse, in better conditions, against that same Ravens team the following week?
I have worries about Brady too...old men after a long season and without elite arm strength
If Kirk cousin has to start the regular season, plays lights out and wins 3 or 4 in a row, will there be a QB controversy in DC?
Never, but maybe WASH could turn Cousins into a first round pick...if your scenario did come true that is
How do the injuries to Bulaga and Nelson affect the Packers? Will they decline or can they take advantage of the injured 49ers?
Sounds like Nelson will be back in time and GB can get by for a game or two without him due to their immense fire power. But Bulaga is a problem. I know that GB played without him quite a bit last year, but that is a big loss, esp after moving him to LT. I like Baktahari, but that is asking a lot. AR makes problems go away, but he has taken far too many hits lately.
Biggest major injury so far in your mind? I'll go with Pitta.
Yeah, I agree...that doesn't mean he is a better football player than Crabtree or Harvin, but I truly think BALT was counting on him very heavily with Boldin gone
Thoughts on Stephon Gilmore this season? From everything I've read and heard from training camp, he looks like he's ready to take a leap. I might be bias as a Bills fan but I think he's ready to make the jump to one of the Elite CB's this year.
Elite is a big word in Year 2, but for the most part, I agree with you and expect Gilmore to be a true #1 CB as soon as this year. CBs often struggle as rooks and take a big jump in year two...Gilmore should do the same
Is Josh Freeman the Buccaneers weakest link?
I would say Pass Rush
Baltimore will be in the wild card mix. The AFC North is Cincy's this year (and I'm a Ravens fan!)
Cincy has the best roster in the AFC North, but I really have questions about Dalton...would WAY rather have Flacco or Ben
Can little CJ Spiller handle a big load of touches this year?
He hasn't been super durable without carrying a giant load. I also think Fred Jax has enough left in the tank to take some carries off Spiller's plate though...and Spiller doesn't need a massive volume to be a huge impact player
Better defense that people are sleeping on ...MIA or CIN?
MIA...very high on Phins D
Over/Under on 30 being the age of the starting QB winning the Super Bowl this year?
How old is Rodgers? I think, even with the Bulaga injury, I am still sticking with GB to win it all. But I think the AFC is pretty much a two horse race between Denver and New Eng-obviously that is OVER. If GB doesn't go, SF or SEA most likely will
Saw that you like Deangelo this year...pessimistic on Stewart's recovery or will there be a greater commitment to the run game in Carolina?
Both, but also think Williams can still play at a pretty high level
Can Tannehill thrive behind that shaky O Line?
I hope to see more designed QB movement, but that OL is the question I have most about MIA overall. But it isn't like J Long played great year and Tannehill was quite good. But...it worries me a lot
Do you think people are 'sleeping' on Miami's D though?
Guess I don't know about that...not sure there is such a thing as "Sleepers" any more with Twitter, etc. But I expect the Phins to have a Top 5 D and I don't think most experts are with me on that
Most overlooked player - I'll nominate Roddy White with all that attention to Ryan's new contract, Julio Jones double covered and the Tony G will he/won't he saga... pencil Roddy in for 90+ catches and 1,000 yds, am I right?
Can't argue that at all...still a fantastic and highly reliable player
Is there any hope for McFadden, considering he is going back to the blocking scheme he had success in? Or is he just an injury waiting to happen?
Don't overlook that he is playing for a new contract too...that matters! I expect the switch in scheme will help, but I also don't think OAK's blockers are very good and who is going fear that passing attack? I can't see McF having a huge year.
I know sometimes camp makes players look better than they are,so realistic expectations for Josh Chapman?
Realistic expectations would be for him to be a very solid 2 down starting caliber NT...and I think that is exactly what he is. Patience pays off from drafting him knowing that he wouldn't help right away.
David Wilson, your thoughts? Brown is a hangnail away from making Wilson a true 20-25+ touches/game back, IMO.
Brown does he hurt a lot, but I think Coughlin wants to utilize two RBs. Not sure that he would if Brown went down, but I also would bet Wilson ends up with significantly more touches than Brown.
I've got the Raiders as the worst team in the NFL this year. You agree?
Coin flip between OAK and JAX
Mccourty has been practicing quite a bit at CB in camp. Shouldn't the Pats just stick him at Safety and let him be the pro bowler that he is?
We know that BB LOVES versatile D Players, but I tend to agree with you and yes, I think if he stays at FS, he will be amongst the best in the league
Just an FYI: my laptop is driving me insane, so I apologize if I fade away for a few mins...have the Geek Squad coming next week...but might throw it out the window before then
Can DeAndre Hopkins get significant targets in that Houston offense with AJ, Daniels and Foster/Tate in the mix?
Expect him to supplant Daniels as the #2 target...maybe catch 75 passes or so...but historically, the WR2 in that O isn't a big producer
If Ponder can be the QB he was down the stretch, which is basically just a do not screw up type QB, can the Vikes squeek out a playoff spot?
They could...the NFC is BRUTAL though...Still, I think that roster is stronger this year than last. Big IF about Ponder, but that is the approach he needs to take, but also needs to push the ball downfield a little more as well
Your rank of these two rookie rbs for this year prodcution: L. Miller and E. Lacy
This is Miller's 2nd season, but first as a starter. I worry a lot about his durability as a work horse, but still think he out produces Lacy by quite a bit
Can S Jax have a good year in ATL? Does he need to have one for them to be good?
I really worry about ATL's OL, but I know it won't be worse than what S Jax ran behind last year. I do think he has a big season-catches a lot of passes too. Pro Bowl type of year
Gio Bernard...does he have a shot at taking over at lead back anytime this year?
I would make him the Week 1 starter right now-assuming he can protect. I don't think those two are even close.
Speaking of Ponder, can Jarius Wright be an adequate replacement for Harvin?
I like Wright quite a bit, but I think Patterson is the Harvin replacement in terms of the types of routes he runs and also giving him handoffs
Shanny got much media flack for playing RG3 when he was hurt, now he gets flack for not wanting him to play until fully healthy. Is that why coaches get the big bucks?
Well said! They do pay team doctors quite a bit of money to help on such decisions!
Some have called Lavonte David the second coming of Derrick Brooks. Thoughts?
Similar in terms of playing style. David can be great...but he is a LONG way from D Brooks!
Which of the following players will be on an NFL team this year:Richard Semour, Matt Leinert, Brandon Lloyd, Randy Moss, Ocho Cinco?
Seymour and Lloyd
What do you see from Michael Floyd this year? He seemed to be coming around towards the end of the season last year and the QB play can't be any worse than last year.
Agreed...really like Floyd and expect him to be one of the better #2 WRs in the NFL this year
If Demarco Murray were to have an adequate season, how good can the Cowboys offense be?
Murray is always more than adequate when on the field, but he isn't real laterally agile and runs so hard-really don't trust him to stay healthy at all. That O could be Top 5 though with a big time running game. Romo carried that O last year.
Besides potential (probable?) injury, what if anything would be holding Amendola back from a breakout year in the slot?
I would say that is it. Should get a ton of targets when on the field.
I alson think another major sleeper defense this year is Arizona, how do you think their D will produce?
I think the whole Zona team could really surprise...wrote an article about it a week or two ago-check it out!
Brian Buluga injury over hype? Not like he was a great RT and the move to LT was gonna be an experiment at best.I do realize that anytime you lose a starting lineman it hurts but we're not talking about Art Shell here.
Certainly not A Shell, but GB's 2nd best OLineman and I thought he was a very good, not great, RT. Odd experiment with him moving to LT no doubt though. But big drop off from Bulaga to his replacement at the spot on GB's roster that I already thought was their biggest weakness.
With no offense to R Wilson or D Brees, i think we would all agree the NFL is looking for the taller / stronger QBs coming out of college...that being said, with a great season like he had in 2011, wouldn't VTs Logan Thomas be much more attractive to scouts than say Johnny Football??
I honestly haven't seen nearly enough of either to say, but yes, having a big strong QB with great tools is certainly an advantage and what the NFL craves. As great as Brees is, he still struggles to see the field at times. Jeff Garcia is another great example of that
Just for fun, do you blatantly disagree with any of my award predictions? I tried to go against the grain a bit. OROY= Tyler Eifert, DROY= Kiko Alonso, MVP= A-Rod, OPOY= Adrian Peterson, DPOY= Orakpo
Can't see Eifert getting enough targets for that honor, but I really like him and I don't see a lot of great OROY candidates right now. Can't give you Orakpo either...
MW, have you watched much of Teddy Bridgewater yet? The kid is pretty amazing, but would you have him as your #1 QB coming out next year or would that fall to someone like Aaron Murray? I'm looking to this NCAA season to find the Vikings next qb, btw
Have heard a ton of great things about Bridgewater and he was really impressive in my limited views, but guys-I am an NFL Scout and just really don't have time to scout the college guys until right before the draft...sorry
Am I looking at another disappointing season where Palmer throws 25 INT's and my HOF career goes off the rails?
I don't think so, but there certainly could be plenty of INTs!
How far do you think the saints will go this year?
I feel like I am out on a limb, but I do have NO winning their division
If you were the Panthers GM and Cam Newton has a bad year, do you contemplate making a change at QB?
Oh no...I am a huge believer in Cam and thought he really got better as last season went along. Work in progress.
Anthony Costanza bad, functional or good LT?
Below average, but with ability to become above average
Do you expect big production out of Le'Veon Bell this season? Seems like his situation is better than all other rookie RB's.
I do and pretty sure he will be my OROY pick
Matt, if the Saints win the division as you predict, do you think the Falcons become one of the two NFC wild card teams?
I am not on board with ATL. Of course the playoffs could happen for them-of course, but I doubt I predict it and I will go with CHI edging them out
Do you think Forte is a top tier RB?
2nd Tier...but no shame in that...could be in for a very productive all around season too
With all these injuries to eagles WR's do you think theres a chance they look to sign a free agent WR? Lloyd or Robinson maybe?
Could happen...rough situation for sure! Not sure either of those guys you mentioned are great fits though.
If you had to choose between CK and Cam for the rest of the careers, who you got? I think they're similar, but I give the mental edge to the Tat...
Like both of course, but CK...I agree with you on mental edge, but he is also more accurate
Same old Foster this year or is the mileage starting to affect him?
Expecting a drop off here
Does Miles Austin have a better year this year than last?
If healthy, Yes...Everyone will treat Dez as their #1, while last year (early in the year), I think Ds were split on that
Who wins the NFC East this year? The only team I think should be counted out on this one is Philly.
VERY much agree...could see a long year for the Eagles and the others are pretty equal. I would also say Dallas is 3rd
Who's is the league's #2 RB? Foster, Lynch, Charles, Martin?
Charles...might be T Rich before long
If Sam Bradford does in fact break through this year with the new weapons he has at his disposal and the Rams D performs as expected, could you see the Rams taking 1 of the 2 wild card spots?
They will be in the convo if that happens for sure, but I seem to be the only one worried about their OL-and their Safeties are terrible. I see more of a 7-9 season
Are you a Doug Martin believer?
Yes...as a high end RB, but not an elite player
Philly O/U 4 wins? I think I'm taking the under...
Could be serious growing pains for sure, but I can see 5 wins more likely than 3 wins...OVER
Who do you think is the best team in the NFL that there is not "buzz" about right now?
Think Antonio Brown is a sneaky bet for 100 catches? Improved OL, and he's def Ben's number one...
Yes, A Brown could hit 100 catches...esp with Miller's injury...a lot of quick hitters
Matt, Tavon Austin for OROY?
T Austin could be an impact guy and be all over Sportscenter, but OROY? Not sure he gets the touches
CJ Spiller is the 2nd best RB in the league, Fact or Fiction?
Fiction...Charles is 2nd best in my book now
Why are people sleeping on NE's offense? Still have Brady, a great running attack, and some young WRs who by all accounts look terrific in camp. Gronk coming back too.
Pats' O all about Gronk coming back...if Gronk is Gronk, the Pats will be an elite team and a high end O...D is improved too
Charles over Shady Mccoy? Hate to say it as a Dallas fan but I love Mccoy's game.
I also love McCoy-no doubt...plus, he is a Pitt guy! In the convo for sure
With a new offense and defense in Philly they are gonna have to flip the roster. How much input does a young coach like Kelly have in personnel decisions?
It looks like C Kelly has a ton of say in personnel decisions as evidenced by what they have done since he arrived
Can you envision a Manning vs. Manning Super Bowl...in Giants Stadium no less? Think ESPN would implode.
WOW! ESPN would implode! I give P Manning a much better chance of getting to the Super Bowl though than Little Bro...the AFC is WEAK...the NFC is not
Quick follow up to D. Martin - why don't you see him as an elite player? Breakaway speed, size or..?
Martin is good-very good in fact-at everything...but I don't see elite physical characteristics
Just wanted to see the Chargers mentioned on the chat so:GO CHARGERS!!
Mission accomplished! But I sense a long year in SD...
Any positive takeaways from Cowboys interior OL performance vs. MIA?
I def thought Frederick looked good for Dallas...encouraging for sure
Okay everyone, I am out...great stuff as always today
