Chat with Bill Williamson

Aaron Van Pelt (Boise)

It's August so we Chiefs fans -perennial masters of delusion- are actually optimistic about this year's team. But deliver the shiv Mr. Williamson. Realistically, how many wins do we muster this year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I cna see a 9-7 team. yes, a seven-win swing is huge, but the pieces and coaching is there.

Dillon Buchanan (Fremont, Ca)

I'm worried about our second round draft choice Menelik Watson. How serious is his injury issues and is it safe to say that he probably won't blossom into anything special in this league? I even question Reggie's potential to draft elite players and not just another regime of busts!?

Bill Williamson
  (3:03 PM)

I'd relax a bit. Watson has a calf injury. It is not long-term. The question is how quickly he can catch up, especially considering his limited football experience. So, he will be in catch-up mode initlaly but that doesn't mean he will be a bust.

Al Davis (RaiderHeaven)

Hang with me guys for just 6 more months. Jon Gruden and Mike Holmgren will be announced mid December,...Merry Christmas!

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

Happy New Year.

JaCorey (RaiderNation)

Will Ford make this team

Bill Williamson
  (3:05 PM)

If he continues to have trouble staying healthy and others emerge, he could be in trouble. But the odds are he makes the team.

Eric (Jacksonville)

Dennis Allen said that he plans to play Darren McFadden during the preseason given this problems with injury do you agree with this decision?

Bill Williamson
  (3:06 PM)

I don't think he will work all that much. He needs some preseaosn work, so it's Ok.

Phil (Texas)

So I'm a lifelong Niners fan who was absolutely gutted to see us bench Smith in favor of Kaepernick. What do you think Alex could realistically do in Kansas City? Have you seen much of his passing game develop or will he be more of a game manager? How do you think his performance will rank against the pervious 7 years of his career?THANKS

Bill Williamson
  (3:08 PM)

I think Smith will do well with Andy Reid as his coach. He is a solid gane manager. It won't be fancy. But he plays clean and he's smart. it will work.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

Is the AFCWest blog going to end up with 4 different writers each covering one team?

Bill Williamson
  (3:09 PM)

Yes sir. Denver is already covered. Others to come soon. That is why I am concentrating on KC, Oak and SD right now. By the way, let's see some Chargers' questions.

Mark (Toronto)

What's with all the Alex Barron talk in Oakland? Is he actually a legit threat to start or is it a sign that the Raiders OL is much worse than we thought?

Bill Williamson
  (3:12 PM)

It porbably means there isn't a lot of depth there. He was a journeyman and he missed last season. I mean, if he becoems a star now, more power to him, but the odds are against it.

Ricky Stanzi (MO)

If the Chiefs let me go, How long will I be out of a job?

Bill Williamson
  (3:12 PM)

Yeah probably, QBs get a lot of chances.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

In 2018, when Tony Gonzalez goes into the HOF, is he wearing a Chiefs hat or Falcons hat?

Bill Williamson
  (3:13 PM)

Neither. Unlike baseball, NFL players go in without repping a team.

shaolinraider [via mobile]

You expect the raiders defense to be better than they were last season?

Bill Williamson
  (3:13 PM)

Still holes, but they are better in the bakc seven. That will help.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

is the Raiders' starting TE currently on the roster?

Bill Williamson
  (3:14 PM)

Too early to tell. But probably, yes.

Justin Duley (Joplin, MO)

How much of the offense do you except to see from the Chiefs during there first pre-season game. Do you think they may hide most of it.

Bill Williamson
  (3:14 PM)

Like msot teams, it will be pretty vailla in the preseason, especially tonight.

MARI IL [via mobile]

Im not saying that there the same skill level but does alex smith use any of the tight ends like he used vernon davis at san fran

Bill Williamson
  (3:15 PM)

Fasano, Moekai and Kelce are all pretty talented guys. So, the tight ends will be weapons.

Mark (Boulder, CO)

What is the buzz around Gnile Davis in KC?

Bill Williamson
  (3:15 PM)

They like him. Interested to see him in the preseason.

Johnny Manziel (TX)

Am I still a high draft pick for next year's draft?

Bill Williamson
  (3:15 PM)

Probably have to play this season.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

If Run DMC plays 10 or fewer games this season, does Oakland bring him back?

Bill Williamson
  (3:16 PM)

If he is lights out maybe and depends onwhat the injury is.

chilly (va beach va)

hey bill, read your blog a couple times a day. why is matt so down on oakland's O line, i like wiz and veldeer, and nix, barnes and briesel aren't terrible

Bill Williamson
  (3:17 PM)

The last three guys you mentioned are lower-level guys.

Ryan Matthews (SD)

I will run 1K plus yards and score 8 Touchdowns! Right?

Bill Williamson
  (3:17 PM)

If you stay healthy, sure.

John (MO)

I have Ryan Matthews on my fantasy team.. should I keep him or get rid of him?

Bill Williamson
  (3:18 PM)

Wouldn't make him my top back. Too much injury history.

Jared L (Eugene, OR)

Which team will Mr. Williamson be covering?

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

To be determined.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Expanding on Alex Smith...do you think he'll be asked to do a lot of checking down, or wis inclined to just do that? Or will he look to Bowe and even Baldwin on the outside and let those guys go up and make plays? What have you seen?

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

It will be a varied offense. Lots of screens to Charles and Davis.

Every Chiefs Fan Wants to Know (MO)

In your opinion will Tony Gonzalez retire as a Chief by signing a one day contract?

Bill Williamson
  (3:20 PM)

I'd think so. Lots of memories there. But he has spent a big chunk in Atlanta.

Jason F (Atlanta, GA)

If KC ends up sub .500 in the win column this year, how many years does the new regime have to turn it all the way around in KC?

Bill Williamson
  (3:21 PM)

Well, if 2-14 turns into 7-9, that's progress, rioght>

John (Europe)

Any charger back up catch the eye? We all know depth ain't their strength.

Bill Williamson
  (3:21 PM)

Mathews was dencet. Wan to see Woodhead when healhy. he had a good camp.

Andrew (Toronto)

I really think the chargers will win 3-4 games. They have no depth and losing Alexander is a HUGE blow to that weak offense. What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (3:23 PM)

I think they are in 6-8 win range. They aren't deep, but there are some good players there.

John (MO)

Whos in line for the #1 WR position now that Alexander is done for the season?

Bill Williamson
  (3:23 PM)

FLoyd and Brown.

shaolinraider [via mobile]

Breakout year for Marcel Reece?

Bill Williamson
  (3:23 PM)

He made the Pro Bowl last year. He's broken out.

Clark Hunt (Kansas City)

If Andy gets us to the playoffs, should I grow the walrus stache to show my support?

Bill Williamson
  (3:24 PM)

Sure.

Big Bob (KC MO)

Will Charles have his best overall statistical season under Reid.

Bill Williamson
  (3:24 PM)

His receiving numbers will probbaly be up.

Alfredo (CA)

Who do you see having a better year in SD, R. Matthews or Woodhead?

Bill Williamson
  (3:26 PM)

Mathews is the lead guy. WOodhead is change-of-pace.

Tommy (AZ)

If Rivers were to ever go down for an extended period (which is very possible considering that weak O-line), they are in serious trouble with Whitehurst. Why didin't they draft a young QB to groom? i.e. Tyler Wilson

Bill Williamson
  (3:26 PM)

If that happens, San Dieog will be picking very, very high in 2014.

Eric (Jacksonville)

Kluwe's play has been solid but this writing has been outstanding, especially the MMQB article about his competition with King. Could he end up being one of the better free agent signings for the Raiders this year.

Bill Williamson
  (3:27 PM)

Perhpas ... yes,. read that article. I liked to it today. It's wonderful.

Guest (Guestville, USA)

Where does McGahee end up? Is San Diego in the discussion?

Bill Williamson
  (3:28 PM)

He has bene really quiet. Waiting for an injury.

John (Europe)

Another SD question for you. Who's getting the sacks for the bolts this year? Enjoy your outlook on NFL news, hope you are chargers blogger.

Bill Williamson
  (3:28 PM)

Freeney is going to be the main guy. Looked good last night.

MOE (richmond, va)

tyler wilson 4th string? not good even if it is the first depth chart

Bill Williamson
  (3:29 PM)

Not great, but it's early.

Bill Williamson
  (3:30 PM)

Three more questions.

Mark (Toronto)

Could McGloin actually make the Raiders? And if so, who is out?

Bill Williamson
  (3:31 PM)

Great question. Could be a scenario where they try to sneak all four in the 53. Not ideal, but quarterabcks are curical.

Kyle Duck (Sacramento)

How will the Raiders Pass D hold up against the AFC west this season? thanks bill!

Bill Williamson
  (3:31 PM)

Depends on the pass-rush. It must emerge.

Charlie (Miami)

What sort of production do you see from Keenan Allen this season? How many receptions?

Bill Williamson
  (3:32 PM)

I think he will see him improve as the season prgresses. I like him a lot.

Bill Williamson
  (3:32 PM)

Talk to you next week, everyone.
