Thanks for stopping by to chat. I'm in beautiful Latrobe, Pa., the only spot in the division where it feels like training camp because of the setting. But it really doesn't feel like camp right now. I believe it's in the 60s right now. Got to find a jacket.
Who do you think will be the Best Rookie in the AFC North in 2013?
The most productive rookie, by numbers, will be Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell. But there are a lot of good rookies this year in the division from Mingo to Jarvis Jones to Matt Elam to Tyler Eifert. All will be very good.
Won't go that far. I still expect the Ravens to get back to the playoffs, which hasn't been a lock for defending SB champs.
The Steeler come into this season with a lot of question marks about team chemistry. There seems to be a feeling of a tighter knit bunch this year. Is the absent of M.Wallace and Mendenhall be the reason for last years locker room break down?
While no one would mention Wallace's name publicly, he was a point of contention in that locker room. I really haven't heard anyone say that they miss Wallace, which says a lot.
Can andy dalton get over his late season slumps and lead the bengals into the playoffs and win post season games this year
Dalton will get the Bengals to the playoffs this year. I'm skeptical of how far he can take them. What helps is the strong supporting cast around him. If he flops in the playoffs again this year, there's going to be a lot of pressure to bring in legitimate competition next year.
Will you be enjoying a nice cold iron city beer today. BTW, I appreciate your work.
Thanks Mike. But I believe I'm in Rolling Rock country, right?
What do you think of the Ravens offense with the new additions of Clark and Stokley?
Both are obviously past their prime and won't put up Pro Bowl numbers. But they can still catch the ball. They know how to read coverages and get open. And they bring experience. There's no way Clark and Stokley replace Pitta and Boldin. But the Ravens are patching the holes as best they can.
Who will be a breakout rb/wr in the division that no one knows right now?
Not sure there are any RB/WR that I can name that no one knows about. My sleepers would be Bengals WR Marvin Jones and Browns RB Dion Lewis.
Sorry about that. Thanks for reminder.
flaccos line over or under? 4230....28td...9 int?
Frank, these numbers are very attainable. I think the INTs could be more in the 10-to-12 range. The number that Flacco really needs improvement, and one that no one talks about, is completion percentage. He should be over 65 percent. Last year, he was 59.7 percent.
Hi Jamison. All the hype about Gio Bernard seems to be coming from Hard Knocks. What have you seen of Bernard in camp that stands out?
During my visit there, his speed jumps out the most. He has a good burst and can change directions to make tacklers miss. Bernard is going to have some good highlight moments this year.
JH, in your article about Bell becoming top running back for the Steelers, you never mentioned why he was moved to that spot when he did not play the first preseason game. Is it improvement he has showed at camp or the lack of production from Dwyer/Redman?
No one really knows why the Steelers moved him up. Tomlin doesn't talk until after practice. It's all conjecture right no on "why" the Steelers did this.
Better media drama: Network or The Wire season 5?
I'm from Baltimore, what do you think?
Does Levon Bell get to 1000 yards this year?
If Bell doesn't crack that number, the Steelers are going to have problems on offense.
Over or Under 40 catches 500 yards recieveing for Jordan Cameron
I would take the over, definitely with the yards. Knowing how Chudzinski and Turner value the tight end position, Cameron will get passes thrown his way, especially deep downfield. Of course, he has to stay healthy.
I know we haven't seen them in a preseason game yet, but do you suspect both Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark will make the final 53 man squad?
Nothing is guaranteed, but I see both making the 53-man roster. I see Clark as a sure bet because the Ravens lack depth there.
What afc north showdown you most looking forward too? By the way i love your wake up call articles great job!
Thanks Jason. The Ravens-Bengals games should decide the division. But their first meeting isn't until Nov. 10. So, we have to wait a while.
whose your pick at center for the ravens? Shipley or gradkowski?
Appears to be a toss-up at this point. I've heard great things about Shipley when the Ravens traded for him. He hasn't disappointed in camp.
Thank you man, I like reading your stuff. You, Clayton, and the boston bloggers write really well. I look forward to reading yous guys' stuff. Any openings for a Detroit blogger to give Seifert some relief/competition?
Thanks for the note. The NFC North is Seifert territory. Not sure what is happening there.
The Bengals seem pretty deep in positions that other teams could use some help at right now. Any chance the Bengals can trade players like Brandon Tate, Ryan Whalen, or Dan Herron for late round picks?
No one is trading for any of those players. They would wait for them to get cut.
JH - How do you see the RB depth chart for the Steelers week one? Who gets cut, Redman or Dwyer?
I see it as Bell, Redman and Stephens-Howling. Dwyer could make the team, but he doesn't offer much on special teams, which is what you want from your backup RB.
Eifert and Gresham can both play at the same time. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but the Bengals like both TEs. It wouldn't surprise me if the Bengals re-signed Gresham even after drafting Eifert in the first round.
Jamison, odds of T. Rich going for 1,300 rushing and 12 td's this season?
If Richardson is healthy and can get over 300 carries, he could reach 1,400 yards rushing. He has the potential to be a top-five back over the next couple of years.
Jamison- what do you see as Weeden's biggest obstacle this season? Meaning... what is one thing he really needs to improve to keep his spot for 2014?
Reading defenses. In practice, he still hesitates too much in going through progressions. It gets him in trouble and can lead to interceptions. He has the physical tools to play in this league.
If Jarvis Jones starts for Pittsburgh this year will the Steelers attempt to trade Worilds, release him, or keep him on the roster next year?
Worilds was a good backup for the past few years. No reason to get rid of him because he's not a starter.
Not much being said about Aaron Maybin, did you see anything out of him when you were here in Cincy?
He never stood out when I was watching. I did take a look at him in individual drills, but nothing much to report. He's definitely on the bubble.
What is your take on Markus Wheaton?
Should get time at No. 3 WR. I talked to him today and someone asked where he likes to line up, the slot or on the outside. His response: Anywhere on the field.
Could jameel mcclain get released?
There's a chance if the Ravens need the cap room. He would free up $3 million.
If everything falls the right way, do you see weeden throwing for 4,000 yards in this offense?
Even though Weeden has progressed, I don't see him reaching 4,000 yards passing. The Browns are going to run the ball a lot.
Who believes Chud? His comments on the qb competition were a complete contradiction of what is actually happening in camp.
Totally agree. When a coach says something like that, it's hard to take him seriously. It was a misstep by him.
With all the injuries so far, what position (besides TE) needs to stay healthy the most for the Ravens?
The other obvious choice is QB. But, ruling out QB and TE, I would say inside linebacker. Beyond Daryl Smith and Arthur Jones, the Ravens have average players in Josh Bynes and Albert McClellan.
Jamison, I'm hoping you'll be able to answer this question now that you have seen Chud in action: how does he stack up to Tomlin and Harbaugh in looking like a head coach? Does he have that leadership style that makes him a good one? Thanks and hope you're enjoying your time on the road.
Brian: Honestly, it's going to be tough to judge Chudzinski until the real games begin. At this point, he has the practices up tempo and he's not afraid to talk about winning.
Is the AFC North the strongest division in the NFL? If not, then who takes the honor? PS: Three viable playoff contenders for the last few years is nothing to scoff at.
I'm biased when it comes to this. But, yes, you can make a great case for the AFC North being the best. The NFC North and NFC West are strong, but AFC North is better top to bottom.
Thanks for all of the great questions. I have to get ready to watch Steelers practice. Will talk to everyone next week. Have a great rest of the week.
