Fantasy NFL with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (4:02 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Ray (Kalamazoo)

Hey Doc... Need some free medical advise. Depending on the sports site, the standard league ranks for RBush and LMiller vary greatly ranging from 2nd round (several others) to 7th round (ESPN). How do you see it? And what kind of bump for .5ppr?

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

I wear a lab coat now and again (it even has an embroidered helmet on the back) but it would be inaccurate to call me doctor. Got Bush ranked No. 18 on RB board and Miller No. 21. That moves up a bit in PPR. Really like both of them.

Nicholas (N.Hollywood)

I own Gronk. Should I drop Fred Davis and pick up Sudfeld? Or just roll with Davis?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

Would roll with Davis. Sudfeld should be good but Davis is more of a proven commodity.

RB After Peterson (Chatting with KC)

I have the 3rd pick and I know what your rankings are, but I wanted to ask anyways... I see the next 6 or so RB's after Peterson as about the same (Lynch, Foster, Charles, Martin, McCoy, Spiller, maybe even throw in Richardson and Rice)... My question is in a league more heavily weighted to TD's and bonus at 100 yds Rushing/Received as opposed to 10 yds/point which RB would you rather have...

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

That set up really wouldn't change the rankings much. It might move Spiller higher than McCoy.

Matt (Islamorada)

TFS, your thoughts on drafting A Foster?

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

Just lowered him down to No. 6 overall. Blue-rated players can't have any significant issues and the injury news is starting to look like significant (at least as it relates to dropping someone from a blue rating).

Hulkster (Hulkster HQ)

Hey brother! The hulkster is in a 12 team keeper league where we can keep up to 5 guys for a max of two years, which makes drafting slightly more difficult. Have Charles and Dez coming back and am drafting 7th. Still look to grab starting RB's early on or better to just go best available throughout?

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

Got a lot of questions from Mr. Bollea. Must be some news about him I haven't seen. Get RBs early as long as a green-rated RB is on the board. There aren't many of those (21 blue and green rated players total) and they are really difficult, if not impossible, to replace.

Tyler (Breckenridge)

I need help with a keeper decision in a PPR league. Do I keep Sproles or Fitzgerald?

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

Like Fitz a lot but Sproles is a top 10 caliber RB in PPR leagues. He'll be harder to replace so keep him.

Frank (Dallas)

You buying on Deangelo Williams as a RB #3?

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Getting there. He was slated to be on the overvalued players list at first but then the RB situation in Carolina is starting to look more like he'll be a lead back (at least for a while).

Paul Bearer (???)

What do your metrics say about how to turn auto update on?

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

It says it's activated. I'll go in and turn it off and back on to see if that helps.

Mark (Miami)

Buy low on Arian Foster? He is a beast and always ailing in the pre-season.

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

He's still No. 6 overall on the TFS Draft Guide RB and overall cheat sheets. If that equates to buying low, by all means buy him.

Wrestler Name ( )

What is Vick's ceiling this year?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Wrestling isn't all that gets posted. Try old Airplane lines. Vick's ceiling is difficult to gauge as the minute he starts making those crazy risky passes he's known for, Kelly will consider benching him. Got him as a QB2 with QB1 upside but also with a huge risk factor.

Matt (Islamorada)

I am late on the TFS draft guide. Hatingmyself for it. What color is Jordan Cameron? Like him over Marty B?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Latest revision (which was sent out a couple of days ago) has Cameron with a yellow rating. No. 15 on TE board and one of the undervalued picks at that position.

Paul (Denver)

Does Lacy win the starting job and does he get goal line reps?

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Yes and yes. Franklin will adapt to the NFL environment eventually but his rough start combined with Lacy's good start will make Lacy the lead back in GB.

Angry Mike (SF, CA)

Scientist, my man! I love the athleticism of Cordarrelle Patterson, but since has a relatively weak QB, he's a rookie, and is referred to as "raw" by every writer who has invoked his name, I find him difficult to value. I see a lot of Percy Harvin comparisons, but this seems too easy just because they are both athletic and Patterson is now a Viking. What do you predict for him in 2013? Thanks very much.

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

We need some anger in this chat! Patterson's JUCO tapes look like Randy Moss (check out Youtube) and he flashed that on occasion last year. He'll hit some big plays this year and could be the poor man's version of Moss this year.

Jeff (CA)

KC, I am really perplexed here. Picking 14th out of 14 in a 0.5 PPR draft Saturday. All you pundits are imploring me that RB is a mandatory with your first two picks - but doesn't that essentially mean I am going to be mediocre at all positions? I am leaning Dez-AJ Green at 14 and 15 - and I expect Forte, Bush, CJ1K, MJD to all be available. What would you do?

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

WR is really deep this year so don't worry about being caught short there. Go RB/RB.

And Leons Getting Laaaarger ((funny))

How in the world is Ryan not blue rated? With his weapons (and talent) I can't see any matchup where you wouldn't start him. Remember he lit up vaunted Seattle and SF Ds in the playoffs last yr too.

KC Joyner
  (4:16 PM)

That's the ticket! Funniest movie of all time. Ryan had his best year ever last season and he still threw for only 32 TD passes. That's a very good number but falls short of a blue rating, especially since he doesn't add a lot on the ground.

kramer (anytown)

Auction ceiling for Daryl Richardson? I figure with keeper inflation, something like a $15 lottery ticket is not that expensive.

KC Joyner
  (4:17 PM)

$15 for Richardson is a very good price. Might even go as high as $18. Hoping to be able to do an auction price listing for the draft guide soon.

Kate Upton (Behind You)

How do you rank Romo, Luck, Freeman and Vick?

KC Joyner
  (4:18 PM)

Would that was the case. My eldest has multiple pictures of her on his wall and would flip out if he could meet her. Those four are rated in the exact order they were listed in the question.

Angry Mike (SF, CA)

Thank for answering my question. Love the Airplane reference. Unfortunately, I do not speak jive.

KC Joyner
  (4:19 PM)

Seeing Mrs. Cleaver speak jive - that was an all-time great scene.

Chris (NYC)

hey KC - this is is tough - final keeper in PPR: Forte, Sproles or Morris? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (4:20 PM)

That is tough! Got Forte rated slightly higher than Sproles and much higher than Morris (who sees very few passes).

Paul (Denver)

Are you buying Thompkins as a nice 2/3 WR? Or is that his ceiling in his rookie campaign?

KC Joyner
  (4:21 PM)

Can't get on that bandwagon. This idea that NE is going to have a dominant offense with a bunch of unproven pass catchers is something I just can't get behind. Thompkins rates as a WR6 on my board and could move up to WR5 or WR4 status by the end of the preseason.

Beer Breath Andy (Nags Head)

Please tell me not to draft Run DMC or D Murray in the 4th, C'mon TFS I need some tough love here. Do Not be an enabler.

KC Joyner
  (4:23 PM)

DMC's a yellow-rated RB so not taking him in the 4th is copasetic. Got Murray as a low-end green-rated RB so he's a 4th round caliber pick. Half enabling here.

Jordan (Casper, Wy)

Do you like 2 QB leagues? I personally find them more challenging and therefor more rewarding to win. Makes you look deep and find that QB who could out perform his draft stock.

KC Joyner
  (4:24 PM)

Casper, Wyoming - I lived there for about a month a long time ago. Enjoyed it quite a lot. Also enjoy 2 QB leagues, at least as long as the league size stays at 10 teams. Get to 12-14 team leagues and the QB depth just thins out too quick.

Loghan (NYC)

Hey KC, loving your draft guide. but i have dilemma. i have the 8th pick out of 12 in my ppr keeper league. i am keeping Dez but my other keeper Foster is having me worry. Would you go RB-RB-RB and skip guys like Amendola to add more RB depth like Vereen or Drich? that means 6 rds until i get a WR2. thx

KC Joyner
  (4:25 PM)

General rule is go starters before backups. Go RB as long as there are quality RBs on the board and then go WR.

Lloyd (Bad Day to Stop Sniffing Glue )

I'm coming up with a list of options for the 15th overall pick in a 12 teamer. So far I have Forte, Bryant, MJD, Reggie Bush and Steven Jackson, in that order. How would you feel about those player/the order? P.S. - I know Calvin will be gone, and I have Ridley as a keeper.

KC Joyner
  (4:27 PM)

THEY'RE COMING RIGHT AT US!!!!! Quick review would have the players listed in that order. Bush might end up over MJD if one adjustment were to be made.

Shirley (Don't Call me That)

"Who will be the surprise of the season as a fantasy RB"..."I can't tell".."You can tell me, I'm a doctor!" But seriously, without having your nose grow, who will be the surprise RB and WR this year? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (4:28 PM)

Richardson was the TFS pick for surprise RB but he may not be a draft day surprise any longer. At WR, it would be Gordon (he could have a great year in that vertical Browns offense).

Fish or Chicken (Lasagna)

$31 ceiling too high for Lacy?

KC Joyner
  (4:29 PM)

Probably by a few dollars. He's close to there but the possibility of split carries is too great.

Melanie Iglesias (Better than Kate Upton) ( )

Are you confident Kaepernick will be a worthy starting QB in 10 team league or would you be looking for a quality backup?

KC Joyner
  (4:30 PM)

Chatters, weigh in on this - Upton or Iglesias? QB depth is such that a good backup can be had for a low draft day price in a 10-team league. You might even be able to get a good QB on waivers. With that low price, it pays to get a backup for Kaep.

Ted Stryker (The friendly skies...)

UPTON

KC Joyner
  (4:31 PM)

One vote for Kate?

Matt (Islamorada)

Whats on the dinner menu tonight? Pizza and Beer here!

KC Joyner
  (4:31 PM)

Chicken and rice bake. Good stuff.

Roseann Barr (Better than Kate and Melanie)

How does Bush affect Forte's value? Does Bush get to 9 TD's?

KC Joyner
  (4:33 PM)

To each his own. Not too worried about Bush affecting Forte's value. Forte's TD value has usually been on longer rushes and that won't change this year.

Jim (Boston)

Upton >>>>>>>>>>> Iglesias Vereen was just dropped in our PPR league. How much of a $100 FAAB is he worth?

KC Joyner
  (4:34 PM)

A Doug/Megatron-like answer. Got Vereen rated as a mid RB4 in a PPR league. Would keep his bid value in the very low single-digit range.

Joe (LA)

I like brunettes. Gotta go Iglesias!!And Shady or Trent?

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

It's close on the votes for Iglesias and Upton and it's just as close for Shady and Trent. Got McCoy rated one rank ahead of T-Rich (McCoy No. 9, Richardson No. 10).

Fake Doug (MI)

Megatron >>>>>>> Kate Upton

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

Too funny!

Doug (MI)

Megatron >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wallace

KC Joyner
  (4:36 PM)

Speaking of that...

Mitch (Las Vegas)

Woah, gotta go with Iglesias. Anyone that you liked/hated in your offeseason analysis that you have a different opinion of these days?

KC Joyner
  (4:37 PM)

Getting a number of Upton votes but am posting the votes that have questions as well. Johnathan Franklin was very high on the TFS early FFB charts but has been dropping since he's had an inconsistent preseason. Montee Ball also dropped in value.

Igor (NYC)

KC, I drafted Le'Veon Bell in my Tuesday draft, did know about his injury. Should I try to make a trade for rb or stick with what I have? We start 2rbs no flex, non ppr league, I have Forte, Steven Jackson, Le'Veon Bell, Jackquizz Rodqizz and Michael Bush. Do you think Bell will play this season?

KC Joyner
  (4:38 PM)

The guess is Bell will play. It would be a good idea to try to get one more RB who could start in place of Forte or Jackson but the cost might be too high. Don't overpay.

Matt (MPLS)

Upton. Do you do any mock drafts? Anybody you seem to be ending up with a lot?

KC Joyner
  (4:39 PM)

Been taking part in Mock Draft Mondays. Am getting RG3 quite often in the 5th round. Just seems his value isn't perceived to be as high as it should. Part of why he was the lead pick in the TFS ESPN Insider article on undervalued QBs.

Pete (Fantasy Heaven)

Upton or bust 2013....in a 10 team standard my starters are Rice, McCoy, MJD, Fitzgerald and Mike Wallace. Do I move one of my RB's to upgrade at WR2?

KC Joyner
  (4:40 PM)

Upton is moving ahead in the voting by just a bit. That group of five is superb. Wouldn't move one of the RBs to upgrade at WR2.

IT nerds (work)

Why are our search engines suddenly blowing up with "melanie iglesias"? Oh well back to fantasy football...KC, Brandon Myers hasn't been exactly lighting it up...still feel he has top 5 potential?

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

Hey, anything to help drive search engine traffic! Not worried about Myers. Still think he's got top 5 potential at best, top 10 potential at worst.

Karl (SD)

Upton>>>>>>>>Megatron>>>>>>>Wallace.....How do you feel about the Buccaneers defense this year? I drafted them in the 2nd to last round while everyone else reached. I normally stream defenses, but think they could be an every week type of play. What say you doc?

KC Joyner
  (4:42 PM)

Iglesias doesn't even make it on that list. Wow. Like TB as a possible spot start group but their brutal schedule precludes them from being a strong D/ST1.

SP (The Wack)

K Up is overrated. L Miller or Vereen .5 ppr?

KC Joyner
  (4:43 PM)

Never thought I'd see Upton listed as overrated. Got Miller rated much higher in a PPR.

Roger Murdock (Supposed co-pilot)

In 12 team standard with #1 pick. At 24-25, assuming ADP holds true, do i go RB-RB, WR-WR, or RB/WR-Graham?

KC Joyner
  (4:45 PM)

I still laugh every time I see Kareem get pulled out of that chair and he's wearing a Lakers uniform. Classic!! Would probably go RB/RB if standard ADP holds to form.

PSU Steve (NYC)

TFS - love the guide, thanks for the hard work.In a keeper league with 3 WR, No flex and deciding between Charles, Spiller, and Rice for my 2 RBs (draft compensation is same). While i agree with how you've ranked them, is there any reason to keep Rice as he is the more stable of the 3 and more likely to get the goaline work as opposed to others who are more yardage driven? Also have bonus points for 100-150-200 yrd rushing / receiving games...

KC Joyner
  (4:46 PM)

Thanks for the good words on the guide! For Rice, the issue is he could split time with Pierce. Charles and Spiller don't have that issue. Rice will have a very good year but just can't see rating him in front of JC or CJ.

Ben (Charlotte)

was suprised to see Rice and Richardson in your overvalued list? i was thinking they are more undervalued, due to the fact they are heavy rushers that also pass catches and goal line carries. is it mostly the defenses they face and their GBYPA that set them back in your eyes? love the guide by the way ...

KC Joyner
  (4:48 PM)

Funny thing is it's not that they are bad fantasy RBs. It's just a matter of thinking other RBs should be rated a bit higher than those two. A lot of it does have to do with the schedule, as the AFC North teams have brutal defensive schedules this year. Thanks for the good words on the guide!

1st time caller (Long time listener)

Where can I get your Guide? Think Nicks is too injury prone to take as a WR2? He's got top 5 potential...

KC Joyner
  (4:50 PM)

You can get the guide at www.thefootballscientist.com. Check out Twitter (@KCJoynerTFS) for a $5 discount code. Only site plug of the chat. Got Nicks at No. 11 on the WR charts, think he's a very good WR2 (albeit slightly risky).

Joe (NY)

Mila Kunis >>>>>>>>>>> AllWould you rather have Romo/Doug Martin or Rodgers/Forte?

KC Joyner
  (4:51 PM)

And a vote for Mila Kunis. Like her but just can't get the shrill "MICHAEL" voice from That 70s Show out of my head. Would rather have Martin, although that could change depending on the recent health news in TB.

Ron (Dallas)

I'm from between Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson Chris Johnson has a great line and Jackson has a great teamWho do you put higher in your rankingsThanks

KC Joyner
  (4:52 PM)

It's a really close call, as they are ranked right next to each other in the draft guide. Got Jackson No. 13, CJ No. 14.

Jake (The Snake)

In a league with 2 WR, 1 TE and a WR/ TE flex, do you change your draft strategy? With the lack of top deptch at TE, does the flex spot pretty much need to be filled by a WR?

KC Joyner
  (4:54 PM)

Used to wear a Jake The Snake t-shirt back in high school. Since TE value flattens out after the top two picks, it pays to build up on WRs and then take a backup TE late.

Politically Correct (Not In Doghouse)

My Wife>>>>>>>>Upton>>>>>>Everyone Else. I have the 13th pick in a 14 team PPR. Who should I target with my first two picks?

KC Joyner
  (4:55 PM)

I feel the same way about Mrs. Scientist. At 13-14-15 on the draft guide PPR charts, we have A.J. Green, Andre Johnson and Aaron Rodgers. Forte, Jackson and CJ?K are the next RBs.

Paul (Denver )

Where do you have Vick rated now after being anointed the starter? Iglesias all the way...love them latinas!

KC Joyner
  (4:57 PM)

Another Iglesias vote. Had Vick No. 18 before the news was announced and will probably have him right around the same value now. His durability issues and his mistake prone ways (which could get him benched) add up to lower his percentages. Lots of upside, obviously, just risky.

zafa (kcmo)

opinion on jamaal charles

KC Joyner
  (4:59 PM)

He just moved up to the No. 2 RB ranking in the latest TFS draft guide cheat sheet. Think he's going to have a fantastic season.

KC Joyner
  (5:01 PM)

Well, time to call it a chat. Haven't officially counted the votes but it looks like Upton won by a very small margin. Couple of quick notes before heading out. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. The TFS overvalued and undervalued fantasy players can be found on the ESPN fantasy football page. The 2013 TFS Draft Guide and start-sit service can be purchased at www.thefootballscientist.com. Check out Twitter for a $5 discount code. Thanks again and I hope to see you all here next week!
