Go ahead and continue sending in your questions, I'll get started in a few minutes...
Let's get started!
Besides TCU which is the sexy pick for a team to lose to Iowa State, name someone that Rhoads takes down this year that he shouldn't
As I look at the Cyclones' schedule, TCU is the one that jumps out immediately... but you said besides TCU, so I'll go with their road game at Kansas State. I think the Cyclones might be able to pull off a road win in Manhattan if they play their cards just right. I just don't see an home upset of Texas or Oklahoma State happening
Trevor Knight or David Ash... Go!
David Ash... Stop!
What up Brandon? How have your expectations changed for the Sooners since Knight was named the starter?
They haven't changed all that much. I still see a 8-4, 9-3 type season for the Sooners. I like Knight's potential and think he will develop into a big-time playmaker in time... but I'm not sure that time is now, or anytime during in his redshirt freshman season. It will be interesting to see how he does
Odds that North Dakota State go into Manhattan and defeat Kansas State on Friday?
I'm going with highly unlikely. So like 15 percent. I just don't see the Wildcats falling at home in their first game. It sounds like Jake Waters is ready to roll and I'm a big fan of Tyler Lockett's explosiveness.
Who do you think will be wvu's next big offensive stars will be this season, and will we see a lot less of Karl Joseph like players that look for contact and go for big hits because of rule changes.
I like what I'm hearing about Charles Sims and Shorts, the freshman inside receiver. Dana Holgorsen has had plenty of praise for both so they'd be near the top of my list. I also think K.J. Myers could surprise this year. As far as the targeting question, yes! I think it will have a big impact on games and put defenders in positions to be less aggressive, resulting in even more big plays this season
What conference has a better chance at ending the SEC's title streak Big 12 or Pac 12?
This season? I'd say Pac 12
What are the odds I make fools out of the media again for picking my team to finish sixth in the big xii?
Very good. People keep counting you out and you keep placing yourself in the hunt. But... you won't do it by chatting with me on a Wednesday afternoon, you should be at practice right now Bill. Come on, you're better than that
Any word on who will play LT for OSU?
I would expect Parker Graham to step in. It seems like the quickest, easiest solution for the Cowboys.
What is the earliest game that you can see Michael Brewer playing in ?
I don't know but it doesn't sound good. Anytime you're talking about back issues, all bets are off. I'm sure Texas Tech has plan B and C set up even if he does come back in the near future and looks healthy
Tons of people keep talking about Trevor Knight and the OU offense. That's fine, but it seems it has really deflected a lot of attention to what has been OU's real problem...defense. Whether it's coaches or players or a combination, THAT is what needs to be fixed. How have they addressed that for this year, and do you think overall defensive perfomance will be better?
The Sooners are trying to get a lot more versatile and be able to adapt to teams and different personnel groups. I'd expect to see more three man fronts from OU than you've seen in recent years. The most important thing will be for the Sooners to be more aggressive and physical on defense though.
What are the chances my former team, Kansas State Wildcats continue to own the Texas longhorns this season and start with a 4-0 record?
Well Jordy, I'd say 50-50 right now. Come back after the season starts and I've seen both teams and I'll have a better answer.BTW, should I pick you on my fantasy team? Are you gonna have a big year?
What are my chances of finding a position on the espn sportsnation staff after only winning seven games this season?
Sorry fella, all full.
Which offensive and defensive player will emerge as a star this year in th BIG xXII?
Good question. I think Jalen Saunders has the chance to be a star, he's so dynamic for the Sooners. I'd also put Bryce Petty and Charles Sims in that category.
Brandon,On paper Texas and TCU should win this league. OSU has been trending the last couple years, and OU never falls to far down. Snyder earns every dollar he is paid and some, and has his teams contending late in the year for the title. In all honesty, who do you think makes the biggest moves in the Big 12 and is competing at the end of 2013? I personally feel that the preseason rankings couldn't be more off this year between the top 6, but maybe they just pulled from a hat as those teams are that close.
I think Baylor makes the biggest move. I just have a feeling this could be their year with so much uncertainty at quarterback at other schools. Obviously, Texas, OU, OSU and TCU are right there as well but I lean towards Baylor as of today
I can see WVU going anywhere from 4-8 to 9-3. Which do you think is more likely, 4-8 or 9-3?
I have to go with 4-8 right now. Too much uncertainty in Morgantown. That said, I'm a believer in Dana Holgorsen so I wouldn't be surprised to see him find a bunch of playmakers, put them in position to succeed and jump into the Big 12 title hunt
Why can't David Ash get any repsect, he had one of the highest QBR ratings last season, and people still think he will be bad. I say he will be good, what do you say?
Unfortunately I've seen the worst of David Ash against Oklahoma so that's at the forefront of my mind. But I think he could easily be the All-Big 12 QB and led the Longhorns to an undefeated season... I just have to see it first, then I'll jump on that train.
Brandon - From what you have seen thus far, do you know if Texas will use Daje more than they did DJ Monroe? Daje looks like a beast out there but Texas seems to miss the mark on these type of guys.
If they're smart they will
What's the word on Knight and the OU offense? How do you predict they will perform this coming weekend?Big 12 Q: Who has the 2nd best D in the Big 12 behind TCU?
I think Knight and OU's offense will be fine. And I'd pick Texas as the second-best defense this season. I think there's a lot of talent in Austin.
How bad will losing our starting LT effect my Cowboys this year? I am kinda worried tho.
Don't be worried you have Joe Wickline. Be worried if he leaves...
How do you see the TCU-LSU game shaking out?
I think it will be a tough, physical game but ultimately LSU's overall depth will be the difference in a close contest. I can't wait to watch it.
How do you see the OU offense % wise for running vs. passing in the first game Saturday?
My guess... 60 pass/40 rush
So what are your thoughts on the apparent resolution of the Johnny Manziel situation, and how does that affect college football at large?
As far as the impact on the Big 12, I know OSU fans are mad after watching Dez Bryant lose his junior season for lying. Outside of that, I don't like the whole situation, the NCAA just doesn't have the power to investigate that it needs. The only certainty for me: Something has to change.
Very excited about the talent on the Baylor squad this year. What can be expected out of the defense? Are they strong enough to make a realistic run for the Big XII title?
I think Baylor can make a title run. They're consistently upgrading the talent in Waco and I don't think they will have to have a dominant defense to win the Big 12... now, if they have higher aspirations? That's another story.
Bedlam....OU or OSU
How important is it for the impression of the BIG XII to show up big in OOC play against the SEC? Especially, if an undefeated team, perhaps Texas, could be compared/evaluated for a BCS Championship Game berth against 1 loss SEC team?
I think it's huge. Jake Trotter actually wrote about that today: http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/71220/big-12-with-chance-to-narrow-sec-gapBut if TCU can pull out a victory and OSU does the same, the conference as a whole will rise in the eyes of people across the nation. Coaches are trying to downplay the potential impact but these are key contests along with Texas-Ole Miss and any other Big 12 vs SEC matchup in the near future
Baylor's defense seemed to click and heat up at the end of the season last year, will they be able to continue to preform this season from the start?
I think they will against Wofford. After that? I'm not so sure, but again, I don't think they'll have to dominate for the Bears to be in the Big 12 title hunt
Scarier: facing a top 5 Defense with decent offense or Top 5 offense with decent defense?
Defense. Always better to have a strong defense, light offense than vice versa
Are Kansas State and Iowa State "rivals"? Both teams lost many of their historic rivals via conference realignment, and I see "Farmageddon" as a game with rivalry potential. Your thoughts?
Any conference game has that potential. We just need a few close battles, a controversial call or two and there we go... I don't think either school will be trying to actively make it a rivalry anytime soon though.
Brando,How long does Dana have if he only wins 6 or 7 games this year? I'd give another season of fewer than 10 wins before he's shown the door - after all, this isn't OKST, Baylor, TTU, Kansas, KSU, or Iowa State...greatness is expected at WVU.
I think Dana's seat is pretty cool. I don't expect him to be shown the door anytime soon, it's going to take a while for the program overall to get comfortable in the Big 12. It's not that easy
Will Jordan Hicks and Jackson Jeffcoat finally live up to the hype this season? Or officiall fall into the 'what if" category along with the Longhorn season?
That's the big question. We start to find out on Saturday. The clock is ticking though and you never know how guys will respond when they know their days left in college are rapidly decreasing
Do you think OSU will use 2 QBs for very long?
Yes. In some way, shape or form, I wouldn't be surprised to see OSU use JW Walsh and Clint Chelf for the full season. Both guys bring a lot to the table, both guys have earned the right to play.
Texas running backs.....Do they have a clear number one or are we going to see each one of them get 10 touchs a game?
I'd think they'll use them all and put them on the field together quite a bit. It doesn't make sense to have that type of talent on the sideline. I have a feeling Gray is going to have a big year though.
Will Roy Finch get a chance to end his career, the way he started, as a playmaker for the Sooners? Was he Tebow like in practice to have all his tremendous talent buried on the bench for two years?
I think Roy Finch will have a bigger role in the offense this season. It just seems like it is now-or-never time for him and the Sooners, so they'd be foolish to leave him on the sideline. Then again, they've done it before so...
North Dakota State, William & Mary, Wofford, Northern Iowa: Which FCS team has the best chance to beat a Big 12 opponent this week?
Out of that group I'm going to say Northern Iowa. I don't envision any of them heading home with a win though
Kstate has always excelled at Special Teams. Will that continue this season/
I would be surprised if it didn't. Tyler Lockett and Tramain Thompson are explosive returners and game-changers back there. Until I see them struggle in the third phase of the game, I'm counting on them to excel
what former b12 player will have the most pro success out of this years draft
This year? I think it will be Lane Johnson. Terrific fit for what Chip Kelly wants to do in Philly.
I'm hearing Baker Mayfield gets the start for Texas Tech on Friday. When was the last time a true freshman walk-on started the opening game for a BCS program?
I don't know that it's ever happened. I'll have to research that. That's a great story if he does indeed start against SMU
If the KSU Defense can keep other teams from scoring more than 28 points per contest...do they have a shot finishing in the Top 3 in the conference and possibly repeat last years performance? We are talking about the wizard here....
Absolutely. This conference is wide open. The kicker is, the whole holding teams under 28 points thing... that's a tall, tall task even with a bunch of inexperience or shuffling at the quarterback position
couple more questions...
True or False, Casey Paschall finishes the season as the Big XII Offensive Player of the Year?
False. The odds are on my side on this one...
At what point in time do you thinkg Bob Stoops knew Knight was going to be the starter?
midway through preseason camp
is this truly a rebuilding season for Kingsbury and Tech?? or are they at least bowl bound?
The league is so wide open, I'm not going to say any team won't be able to do something. What if Kingsbury just brings in a confidence and attitude that takes the Red Raiders to another level? Who's clearly going to be standing in their way? *shrugs shoulders* So that's why I'm so excited about this season
How do you think Baylor and lache seastrunk will do this season?
I think Seastruck will have a great season but I don't expect him to win the Heisman. As far as Baylor, I expect them to be in the Big 12 title hunt but stumble during their late stretch of OSU, TCU, Texas.
Thanks everyone, look forward to chatting with you again next week!
