Good morning, gang! We've got 60 more minutes of fantasy chattage on this, the first day of the NFL season! Woo-hoo! Second cup of coffee? You know I wouldn't fumble that... so let's get this chat kicked off!
Mike Williams, Golden Tate, or take a gamble on Zach Sudfeld at flex in non-ppr? Thanks in advance!
A lot of this is going to depend on which guy ends up getting a TD. If none, Tate is probably the best bet of the trio.
Should I play Chris Ivory or Miles Austin in my flex spot?
I'd give Ivory the shot this week, but I wouldn't feel confident either way.
Would you use the Bengals D or Rams D?
This week, I'm high on TB and Cincy D/ST.
Which backup RB is the better pickup ROS in a PPR league: Reece, Helu, or Hunter?
I'm a big Reece guy, and his value can only increase if DMC does what he does best - get hurt.
Am I taking a chance rolling with Kaepernick and Vick for the entire season?
No more so than with any other QBs. They can all get injured at any time. At least you have two who have proven to have value.
Grabbed SF defense, but nervous about this week against the Pack. Should I grab a better match-up D or stay strong?
It's Week 1. Offenses are not operating at peak performance, so I don't put TOO MUCH weight into matchups out of the gate. You drafted these players/teams for a reason. Use them.
first cup in hand here, any reason to hold on to Turbin at this point, seems to be alot of buzz around this Michaels
There's buzz because he did as well as he did in games against lesser competition. Leland McElroy, if memory serves, once scored 3 TDs in a preseason game and had "buzz." Didn't touch the ball all season.
Why is Ivory ranked above Powell when he's lower on the depth chart?? Thanks!!
Because it means nothing. It's all about who is expected to get more touches, not who will get to smile at you when the networks display the starting lineups.
Better play at flex this week, Tavon Austin or Vick Ballard?
I don't typically go with WR over starting RBs, but when it's a backup, I rarely go the other way. Austin.
Andrew Luck and Indy coach saying Heyward Bey is awesome. Should I start him over Lacy this week as a flex? PPR league too.
Yeah, I have seen far too many games of DHB to buy into the awesomeness.
Double Eviction Tonight!!! Any predictions?!?! Does J-U-double D (party darty) make it through the night?
Yes. Either it's a McRanda sweep, or Elissa joins her in jury.
PPR this week Fred Jackson, Knowshon Moreno, or Jacquizz Rodgers
I like Fred. I am not convinced that Spiller gets 90 percent of the work.
Newton or Big Ben this week? I dont know if I trust Cam against the Seahawks.
And you can trust Big Ben's O-line?
Who do you start out of Ravens, Chiefs and Browns DST this week?
I'm going Cleveland.
Does Torrey Smith get a nice upgrade tonight since the Broncos are down Champ Bailey? Is he a high-end WR2 play in Denver tonight?
It doesn't hurt him, to be sure. I had him in top 20 anyway.
Would you start James Jones or Emmanuel Sanders at flex in a ppr?
Week 1 of football not as compelling as matchup 1 of baseball playoffs! Carlos Gonzalez droppable? I would assume he'd be shut down if the Rockies didn't think he can play...what's his deal?
You summed it up nicely. If they thought he was not able to come back, they'd have already stuck the fork in him.
Cameron a better start for a PPR league this week over Rudolph?
No, I think I'd go with Kyle.
PPR Tate over Steve Johnson?? I know rankings say Tate but was wondering on your thoughts about a shoot out game between Pats and Buff and how that might play out for johnson?
If you believe that, you go with Stevie. The problem is the inexperience under center for Buffalo. It's a big risk.
Follow-up! Do you care if your RB is going against your DST? I have Forte, and was considering playing the Rams over Cinci for that reason...
A defense can have 10 sacks, 3 INT and your RB can still get you 100. It's not a zero-sum game. Besides, depending on league scoring, you can effectively make yourself "fumble-proof" by starting the opposing D.
Vereen, Ball, or Matthews? ESPN has them all ranked back to back and I need to pick 1. Which RB would you go with week 1?
Bradshaw and Ball ranked closely to each other this week. Bradshaw has better matchup, Bell maybe gets more usage? A cup of dark roast for your thoughts on whose the better flex play?
It is a tough call, but not knowing for sure how the carries in Denver are going to break, I'll go Ahmad.
Like G. Little with Gordon out?
In the flex conversation, but nothing huge expected here.
AJ, Brandon Myers seems to be getting mixed reviews. Karabell said he likes him where Ive heard others say he is lousy. Where do you stand? Would you start him over Brent Celek?
I prefer Celek this week. In general, you know the Giants like to use the TE, but I'm not ready to trust Myers with a "Shockey-esque" ranking.
welker sanders or williams standard format
Hard to not start Welker Week 1.
Should I stash Percy Harvin on my bench being that he is coming back week 7?
Consider the source of that claim... it's all well and good that Harvin wants to come back in Week 7 and is saying that he will. Until I hear that from Seattle medical staff, I'm not buying it. All that said, worth a stash if you have room? Sure.
Sanders, Hilton or Jennings at my flex this week? Thanks!
Mike Williams or Steve Smith?
DeSean Jackson or Reggie Wayne?
Baseball still matters for some us...in a H2H playoff matchup would you gamble on Kazmir vs the Mets?
Probably not, though he may be auditioning for a 2014 job in that one...
Victor Cruz is questionable, play Torrey Smith tonight in his place or roll the dice VC plays on Sun night?
Generally speaking, if you have a Sunday night/Monday night concern at all and have another viable option, you should almost always take it. In this case especially.
Do you see Marcus Lattimore as the starting running back for the 49ers in 2014 or 2015? (Gore can be cut next year with no financial penalty to the team) Good add in keeper leagues?
If you can afford to have a roster spot locked up for the year, then it's a lottery ticket. A lot can happen between now and then, including Lattimore suffering a setback.
Stafford or Luck @ QB this week?
I'll go with Stafford.
SJax, Ray Rice, ALF - pick 2 for RB - defenses are worrying me.
I'll sit Steven.
Daryl Rich or Dwayne Bowe at the Flex standard league...
Alex Smith is going to have to prove he can connect with Bowe before I trust him.
Need help in a deeeeep league. Who would you rather have rest of season: Aaron Dobson or Donnie Avery?
Right now, I'd take my chances with Dobson developing.
Drop Moreno to pick up Indy D (and sit Ravens D)??
I don't see it. Why can't Raiders score more than the Broncos for one week? If you didn't trust the Ravens D to be solid on a routine basis, you shouldn't have drafted them. And if you were worried about it, why didn't you draft Indy D in the first place rather than pick up Moreno? It's Week 1. Roll with what you've got.
COMMISH Q: in a 16-teamer, do you prefer waivers to reset each week, or just move to last after successful claim?
I prefer once-a-week waivers, based on reverse order of standings.
Chris Givens or Montee Ball at flex?
I'm going to roll with Ball.
Lance Moore, James Jones, Deangelo Williams, Jordan Cameron. Pick 2. PPR league. Thanks.
Williams and Cameron
Sudfield or Cook?
Why should the last place team get an advantage on Free Agents? Every league should have a FAAB $ amount for the year. Makes it fair for everyone.
It's a matter of preference. You want FAAB, do it that way. To me, though, I've found that you keep owners interested longer if they think they have a chance at improving. Too many dead teams if the top FAs get FAAB'ed to winning teams early.
you dont like James jones????????????
Not as much as you like question marks.
TD only pick one out of Nelson, Shorts and Decker
TD only might as well throw darts and start offensive linemen. I'll say Nelson, but there's very little to predict here.
I don't think the goal of a fantasy league is to keep owners interested longer.
It should be the goal of the Commish. For you, the player, it should be to win - and have fun.
Tony Romo or Big Ben?
Have you never seen a Dallas-Giants game? Romo.
How concerned are you about Lacy going against the 49ers defense?
I'm concerned about starting a rookie RB against any D. Against the 49ers, I'm expecting far less. Lacy is a No. 2 RB this week.
Couldn't you argue that all of this time, effort and debate is meaningless? Everyone has roughly the same talent on their rosters - it's all about injuries.
If you're saying that we have no actual control over how well our players do, then yes - it's meaningless. But we can increase our chances at being successful through the time, effort and debate. But even a well-researched, well-thought out decision with a 99 percent chance of being right can end up wrong.
Having to tough call between Reggie Bush and David Wilson (.25ppr). Thoughts?
I'm going Wilson this week.
BASEBALL. Tony Cingrani, can we trust to start him fresh off the DL playing STL?
I certainly would not.
Pick 1 of each scenario, Lamar Miller or Marques Colston and Philip Rivers or Brandon Weeden?
Miller and Rivers.
seem a little feisty this AM, J Parker or Samardjza next week?
People will read into what I respond however they want. Never anything but good humor behind my words. I'll go with Parker.
Enough footballs to go around in Denver? Hesitant to start Welker.
I think so, because there's also a lot more plays per game due to speed of the offense.
That the 12 o'clock cuckoo. Time to go. I will try to stop by Twitter (@ajmass) later this afternoon, in case I didn't get to you. Until then: stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you!
