Fantasy Sports with Eric Karabell

Eric Karabell
  (11:01 AM)

Hello all and welcome to the latest fantasy sports chat session! I am Eric, we've got an hour and I'm guessing there will be many, many questions for me to answer! I'll do my best to get to yours. Thanks for showing up or reading the wrap later. We all appreciate the attention and support at ESPN Fantasy games! Anyway, here we go...

Matt (Philly)

Hi Eric! Do you think I should drop Michael Floyd and pick up Blackmon for a bench WR spot? If I do, Floyd will finally go off Sunday.

Eric Karabell
  (11:02 AM)

You're probably right about Floyd. Always happens that way, no? But I would prefer Blackmon the rest of the season. His return after the 4-game suspension should help the Jaguars offense. And it needs help.

T-Roy (Utah)

Who is the better back-up RB; Ingram or Franklin?

Eric Karabell
  (11:02 AM)

Can't say I like either producing numbers anymore, but I'm going Franklin now. Clearer path to big numbers, and obviously he can play. With Ingram, there's major doubt.

Tiff (DC)

FLEX this week: Alshon Jeffrey of Knowshon Moreno? (PPR)

Eric Karabell
  (11:03 AM)

Flex ranks come out Thursday, but Moreno will be getting that nod, quite easily.

scott (rochester)

So is Le'Veon Bell going to have a crazy coming out party in London? It is quite the stage.

Eric Karabell
  (11:03 AM)

I didn't rank him as if he's a guaranteed fantasy asset, but he should be owned in all leagues. I have doubts the Steelers can block well enough for any running back, frankly. But Bell is worth a flex this week.

Mike (West Chester)

Should I trade A.Rogers and D. Williams for C. Kaepernick and S. McCoy?

Eric Karabell
  (11:04 AM)

Interesting. I do think Kaepernick will get significantly better, starting tomorrow, and there's no concern with McCoy.

Drew (Detroit)

Hey EK! Who would you start @ FLEX this week between Josh Gordon and Stevan Ridley? Getting awfully frustrated with Ridley, but I know that one week I bench him he will finally regain last years form. Thanks.

Eric Karabell
  (11:05 AM)

Seems to be a lot of that already in this chat session! There needs to be a report commissioned to test this theory! Where's Tristan! Anyway, I'm likely to go with Gordon. Don't drop Ridley, but I can't start him the way he's looked.

Alex (Utah)

Is there any reason to hang onto Chris Ivory? Would dropping him for a guy like Cordarrelle Patterson or Stephen Hill be a good move?

Eric Karabell
  (11:06 AM)

I wouldn't, but could make a better case for Hill. Ivory is so frustrating. Just can't stay healthy. Not that I think Powell will be awesome every week.

Billy (Washington DC)

Rest of the Year, Heath Miller, Charles Clay or Coby Fleener?

Eric Karabell
  (11:06 AM)

I'd go with Miller there. Might not see a ton of snaps this week, as he works his way back, but he's pretty reliable.

Bill (DC)

Trying to shore up the backup QB position. Drop a disappointing Carson for the newly named started Mike Glennon?

Eric Karabell
  (11:08 AM)

I write about Tampa Bay's Glennon today, saying the value of his weapons actually improves - that's how poorly Josh Freeman was playing - but it's a bit premature to trust a rookie that has never thrown an NFL pass over Palmer. He's still relatively safe. Glennon has more upside though.

Casey (NY)

Trying to work on a 3-team trade where I give up AP to get Jamaal Charles and Doug Martin. Any advice on how get everyone to agree?

Eric Karabell
  (11:08 AM)

Well, good luck with that one! I'd make that deal every time! Advice? Throw in Calvin Johnson!

Tyler (Baltimore)

Would I be giving up too much if I trade Decker for Ridley?

Eric Karabell
  (11:09 AM)

Probably. At this point Ridley could be a guy that never rushes for 50 yards in a game. Or he could suddenly become the 2012 version. Decker is a top-20 wide receiver for me.

Dmitry (VA)

I'm 0-3 because the 49ers didnt even kick a single field goal last week. Hold me?

Eric Karabell
  (11:09 AM)

Yeah, we don't really deal with kickers here. Sorry.

Craig (Minneapolis)

What is your take on Trent Richardson this week? With a full week of practice can I trust him enough to start him or will he split carries with Bradshaw again? Thanks for you insight.

Eric Karabell
  (11:11 AM)

We all ranked him well, but I do see Bradshaw sharing touches with him. That's not always such a bad thing. Richardson will be good.

Christina (SD)

Just traded Bernard Pierce and Tavon Austin for Desean Jackson. Your thoughts?

Eric Karabell
  (11:11 AM)

My thought is why do people always ask how they did after it's over! What if it's the worst deal ever! Well, this is fine. I do like Pierce, but Ray Rice either plays this week or soon after.

Randy (Indiana)

Thoughts on Broyles from Detroit?

Eric Karabell
  (11:12 AM)

Will probably get a bit overrated this week. I mean, he must be owned now in all leagues, but when's the last time someone opposite Calvin Johnson was really awesome. Like 1,000 yards awesome? I could see at least 50 catches out of the slot. I like Broyles. But it's not a secret any longer...

Frank (Cleveland)

Better 2nd half of season: Lacy or SJax?

Eric Karabell
  (11:13 AM)

I was never trusting Jackson, unlike my colleagues. And I don't see why even after he returns in mid-October we'd assume he'll stay healthy the rest of the season. He should produce though. I want Lacy now.

Kevin (Charlotte)

Do you play in any leagues that don't use kickers at all?

Eric Karabell
  (11:13 AM)

I wish!

Mike (NYC)

Would you trade Gronk for Gio and Stevie Johnson? I already have Bennett...

Eric Karabell
  (11:14 AM)

It's fair, I suppose. But I'd try another path to get depth. Gronk is awesome when he plays. Try to move Bennett for Gio while his value is high.

Drew (Houston)

Le'veon Bell : RBBC or Workhorse?

Eric Karabell
  (11:14 AM)

If he plays well, then it's his. The rest of the committee kinda stinks.

Yvgeny (Kalamazoo)

So like many owners, I'm sitting on Cameron and Gronk. If I were to move Cameron, what should I expect in return if I'm looking for an RB?

Eric Karabell
  (11:15 AM)

No clue what someone would or would not offer. But I wouldn't wait. The guy had a three-touchdown game Sunday, is off to one of the top-5 starts EVER for a tight end. Move him now and keep Gronk.

Bryan V (Columbus, OH)

Is Colin Kaepernick better than what we've seen?

Eric Karabell
  (11:15 AM)

Absolutely. Be patient there.

Scott (NY)

Do you expect Richardson and Pead to split carries on Thursday?

Eric Karabell
  (11:16 AM)

I actually expect Pead to get more carries. Richardson had his shot. Perhaps he's too hurt, but I don't think it matters that much against what HAS to be a better 49ers defense. They've been awful so far.

Ed (NJ)

Will Antonio Brown be consistent enough to start every week as a WR2?

Eric Karabell
  (11:16 AM)

I believe he's a borderline top-20 WR now.

Riaz (Berea, OH)

Eric, I saw your piece on Spiller. Your more generous than even Spiller is. Spiller admitted he would see a lot of 8 man fronts for the foreseeable future. If thats true, what makes you so sure he snaps out of his funk?

Eric Karabell
  (11:17 AM)

Well, when you use the word funk, isn't that unfair? I mean, 2 weeks ago he ran for 103 yards. Can it be a funk off of one game? I think EJ Manuel will continue to improve, and the health of Fred Jackson also opens things up with CJ. I just trust his ability. And I can't find 10 other running backs I like better.

Clark (Toronto)

Still hesitant to start Ridley. Sproules a better option this week as RB2?

Eric Karabell
  (11:18 AM)

Definitely. Sproles has been a tad disappointing, but he's better than this.

John (Arkansas)

What's going on with Roddy? Can we ever expect top 15 production from him this year?

Eric Karabell
  (11:18 AM)

Hoping for right after his pending bye week. Because this... terrible.

Eric (Minnie)

If Gronk comes back, will that take pts away from Eldeman or open of the field for more yardage? Is Eldeman still a worthy start, I have nicks, M. austin, Gordon, D. andre.

Eric Karabell
  (11:19 AM)

I think if Amendola comes back it affects Edelman more. When Gronk returns it's good for everyone, Brady, Edelman, the RBs... But I like Nicks, even after the Week 3 debacle, more this week.

Anthony (CA)

Do you think Greg Jennings' value goes up a little in a PPR if Cassel starts this week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:19 AM)

Not really. Not like Cassel is good. He's no Brian Hoyer! (I jest.)

Matt (DC)

Denarius Moore... you like him as a bye week fill-in this week against Wash?

Eric Karabell
  (11:20 AM)

Sure do. Terrible defense there. The entire NFC East has no defense.

Mike (Philly)

Dez Bryant a buy low right now? Trading Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins too much for him?

Eric Karabell
  (11:20 AM)

I'm on board with that.

Jason ((CO))

Try and buy low on Roddy?

Eric Karabell
  (11:20 AM)

Sure, but be able to wait for production until November.

Jeff (STL)

I know ranks will be out soon, but sitting Ridley if Gio is other option?

Eric Karabell
  (11:20 AM)

I cannot argue at this point.

James (Ohio)

How confident are you in P. Thomas?

Eric Karabell
  (11:21 AM)

Not very. But when he plays he always seems to do well.

Brian (VA)

Hi Eric. Would you give Joique Bell to get Hakeem Nicks?

Eric Karabell
  (11:21 AM)

Yeah, I still would. Remember, the Giants are awful, but they still get all these NFC East games. Nicks will torch the Redskins and Philly.

Justin (Boston)

Baseball!! Would you take Machado as a 4 year keeper or D Brown?Worried about the injury...

Eric Karabell
  (11:22 AM)

I would take Machado. Easily.

Mike (Chicago)

You KNOW Ridley is going 16 for 94 and 2 TDs this week

Eric Karabell
  (11:22 AM)

After defending him for a month and now finally having had enough, I totally agree. Always happens that way!!!

Danno (TX)

Good chat as always. Would you drop B. Brown to pick up J. Snelling? I also have AP, Powell and Ridley.

Eric Karabell
  (11:23 AM)

I would not. I see why you would, but the potential upside for Brown if McCoy were to get hurt are so enticing. Snelling is just a fill-in.

Brandon (MI)

Who would you take ROS: Edelman or Broyles?

Eric Karabell
  (11:23 AM)

I still take Edelman. Broyles isn't exactly a sure thing to play every game either.

Tyler (Baltimore)

How long before BJGE becomes unusable? droppable?

Eric Karabell
  (11:24 AM)

I doubt it happens. The Bengals would be wise to use both their running backs. I'd just use Gio more!

Matt (NJ)

Is Foster a sell high candidate after his first big game?

Eric Karabell
  (11:24 AM)

Not really. I'd expect Foster to take up more touches after his first big game.

Shauna (CO)

Decker top 15 remainder of season? WR2 or WR3?

Eric Karabell
  (11:25 AM)

Third on the Broncos, but around top 20 for me. Stopping short of top 15. I could be wrong though! Peyton's gonna have 3 1,000-yard WRs!

Eric (Chicago)

Are you starting Kenbrell this weekend at Atlanta?

Eric Karabell
  (11:26 AM)

If he's one of my best options I would. But I don't expect he's a safe top-30 WR yet.

Clint (South Jersey)

Over/Under on Sixers wins this year, 14.5...What would you take?

Eric Karabell
  (11:26 AM)

Wow. Sadly, gotta go under. But definitely looking forward to hockey season next week... Flyered up!

Timothy (Green Bay, WI)

Crazy to think of dangling Peyton to see if I can get back another top 5 QB and an upgrade at WR?

Eric Karabell
  (11:27 AM)

Not at all. Everyone is tradable. I see Peyton throwing for 5,000 yards and 40 scores though.

Brian (Omaha)

Do I put Arian Foster in the FLEX against a tough Seattle defense or give Dwayne Bowe a last chance to prove himself against a bad Giants team? I know, "always start the runningback", but this year that seems less applicable.

Eric Karabell
  (11:27 AM)

You're correct on that last part, but I'm starting Foster. Definitely. And Bowe just caught one pass for four yards against a bad Eagles defense. I think he will do better against the Giants, but ... Foster!

Dean (IA)

Is Andrew Luck a viable starting QB going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (11:28 AM)

Um, yeah.

Steve (Lima)

Would you trade Drew Brees for Kaep and Roddy?

Eric Karabell
  (11:28 AM)

Probably not.

Chad (Jacksonville)

What will MJD's final 2013 stat line look like? Hope on the horizon?

Eric Karabell
  (11:29 AM)

At least he's relatively healthy and getting many carries. Could be worse actually. Should improve.

Marc (NJ)

Hi Eric. Is Knile Davis a must-own? I just dropped him for Broyles and I'm afraid someone else might scoop him up. I think he's a stud if Jamaal Charles ever gets hurt, but I just don't have the room on my roster with the byes coming up.

Eric Karabell
  (11:29 AM)

I don't think must own. I think he's one of many handcuffs that would be interesting, but there's no guarantee he could hold on to the football. And Charles is healthy.

Martin (New York, NY)

Is Gio "safe" enough to start in the Flex each week going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (11:30 AM)

I'd say let's go week to week with all these fellows, ok! But probably he is.

Bob (NYC)

If I'm a Morris owner, do I have to handcuff him to Roy Helu? Helu has played a lot, but done very little. Meanwhile I'm missing out on backup RBs that actually play and could be used in a pinch.

Eric Karabell
  (11:30 AM)

I see no reason to roster Helu. Morris is healthy. Even adding a Jacquizz type is wiser.

Justin (Nashville)

Do I have permission to cut Chris Ivory for a QB in the Geno Smith, Roethlisberger, Pryor, etc. class?

Eric Karabell
  (11:32 AM)

Permission? Now there's a complicated word. What if I say no? Geez, I don't want that responsibility. I will say that I have no problem with anyone dumping Ivory. Even I did it.

iHmong [via mobile]

Is Fitzgerald a top 5 wr the rest if year ppr

Eric Karabell
  (11:32 AM)

More like in the 8-12 range.

Tim (Delaware)

Should I bench Spiller for MJD this week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:33 AM)

Your team! I can make the case. Depends on how many touches Spiller gets. I think he will get enough but it's a fluid situation.

David (SHAQ-ramento, CA)

Any word on Percy Harvin?

Eric Karabell
  (11:33 AM)

Still hurt. Ask in a month and you'll get the same answer. I honestly don't see much value for this season.

Alex (Philly)

After watching the Browns game last week, I'm inclined to call Josh Gordon a potential top 7 talent in the NFL at WR. Am I way off base here?

Eric Karabell
  (11:34 AM)

He is very talented. And I could see him being a top-10 WR if the QB would oblige. I mean, AJ Green does it and nobody would call Andy Dalton good.

Ryan (OK)

How does the QB change effect Doug Martin?

Eric Karabell
  (11:34 AM)

In a good way. Really, with Martin, not much at all.

Eric (Des Moines)

You opinion on Isiah Pead's outlook ROS?

Eric Karabell
  (11:35 AM)

Impossible to tell. But he's in the picture because Daryl Richardson allowed it. That in itself is a bit surprising.

Alex (OH)

EK, just wanted to say thanks for all your work. Just won my fantasy baseball league, ended the season on a 16 week unbeaten streak!

Eric Karabell
  (11:35 AM)

Way to go! Oh, how I will miss baseball. Always do.

Hunter (Greenville)

Is Blackmon a viable WR2 in upcoming weeks? or more of a flex play?

Eric Karabell
  (11:36 AM)

I don't think he'll be a top-20 WR anytime soon. Lot of variables in Jax. Flex at best.

Dylan (Fryeburg maine)

Better baseball keeper. Billy Hamilton or Starlin Castro?

Eric Karabell
  (11:36 AM)

Too many people will assume Castro can't be a 200-hit guy again. He certainly can. Needs motivation! But he can't steal 100 bases. In a vaccuum I say Hamilton now.

Woody (Colorado)

I've got Gronk and J. Cameron. Should I wait for Gronk to establish himself again before I sit Cameron?

Eric Karabell
  (11:37 AM)

I'd move Cameron in the next 4 days. As for starting, I think if Gronk is active, he plays well immediately. He's no decoy.

Shawn (VA Beach)

How do you see the carries working out between T-Rich and Bradshaw? Keep both, trade one?

Eric Karabell
  (11:38 AM)

Both will be viable. But I'd prefer to own Richardson.

Eric (Tallahasee)

Gronk is always a redzone monster and will be one of Brady's top targets, but if I can deal him for Foster do I do it?

Eric Karabell
  (11:39 AM)

Yeah, hard to say no to that one.

Kendrick (VA)

Will Gronk returning affect Ridley's production at all?

Eric Karabell
  (11:40 AM)

It will help it, assuming Ridley still gets touches.

Matt (Ft Lauderdale)

Really like Bradshaw over McGahee?

Eric Karabell
  (11:41 AM)

If I ranked it that way, then I believe it. Really.

Jeff (Texas) [via mobile]

How much trust in Pryor ROS?

Eric Karabell
  (11:41 AM)

Cautiously trust him, but he's still a work in progress and now we have to have some concern about his concussion.

Alex (Philly)

How is Moreno ranked so high? Very ordinary RB in a 3-back committee, doesn't quite add up for me...

Eric Karabell
  (11:42 AM)

This was not being said a week ago today after his 2-touchdown performance. Yeah, he's ordinary. But don't overrate Monday night; the Broncos were in NO danger of losing, so why not play the kids? The stats in that game for the running backs indicate nothing moving forward.

Kel Miper Sr (Chicago)

Jordan Cameron for Jordy sound like a winner?

Eric Karabell
  (11:43 AM)

Absolutely.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Just saw Hoyer starting again...move Gordon for WR2 value or ride the hot streak? 19 targets..

Eric Karabell
  (11:44 AM)

I doubt there was ever a doubt Hoyer was starting again... but we ranked Gordon the way we did presuming that anyway. Did not make my top 20, but was close.

Jason (Tallahassee )

Not looking at ranks. Do I have to start Josh Gordan after 19 targets last week? Or go with Colston who hasn't had a great game yet?

Eric Karabell
  (11:44 AM)

You don't HAVE to do anything.. I'm starting Colston. But your point is valid, except that it hardly means he gets 19 targets again this week. One would think future defenses will be better prepared.

Shawn (VA Beach)

Would you trade Bradshaw for David Wilson straight up?

Eric Karabell
  (11:45 AM)

Yes I would. But I wouldn't feel awesome about it. Just the right time to buy low. Has to get better. Has to.

Mike (San Diego)

OK, so we're not supposed to overrate Monday night in regards to Moreno. But how the heck is anyone supposed to trust this guy as an RB 2 in ANY game?

Eric Karabell
  (11:46 AM)

I don't trust him. But he could go off for 20 points again. Or the Broncos could be up 21-0 on Philly after 8 minutes and we see the backups. I don't trust Moreno at all. But he's their main guy in competitive games for now.

David (PA)

Accept this trade?....Cobb and D.Williams for MJD and DJax?

Eric Karabell
  (11:47 AM)

Yes, I would make that trade if you get Cobb/DeAngelo.

Nate (Dallas)

Do I sit Ridley as my #2 RB and insert Gio or B. Pierce

Eric Karabell
  (11:47 AM)

If Rice is out again then it's Pierce for me.

Keith (NY)

In a keeper league, was offered Larry Fitz and a 5th round pick for Gio and my 7th...my RBs are Lynch, Charles, Sproles and DeAngelo....is this a no brainer?

Eric Karabell
  (11:48 AM)

The picks are minor there. But the trade makes nice sense.

Big Pat (Texas)

Is Lance Moore droppable?

Eric Karabell
  (11:48 AM)

I think it's premature. We know he will get numbers. Not like he's been passed on the depth chart. Saints aren't scoring 40 a game.

Bye Week (Here)

Bye week time is here!!! Locker or Glennon better fill for Newton this week?

Eric Karabell
  (11:49 AM)

Oh my. I didn't rank either of them, but I can't see a trusting a guy that has never thrown a pass.

Jack (New York)

I know it's not smart to overreact to 1 week, but don't you think UNDERreacting is sometimes just as bad. Point and case: Josh Gordon will be a top 10 WR from here on out.

Eric Karabell
  (11:50 AM)

Gordon's season rank is irrelevant to what he does this week. I think he needs to be owned in all formats, and likely is close to that. But I can't trade Reggie Wayne for him yet. I mean, that's overreacting to me.

Thomas (Milwaukee WI)

Is Ryan Tannehill worth an add say over Alex Smith?

Eric Karabell
  (11:51 AM)

Certainly has more upside. But Smith does have an awesome matchup again this week. Love those NFC East defenses!

Brian (SC)

Trade Welker in return for Mike Wallace and David Wilson?

Eric Karabell
  (11:53 AM)

Ooh, I'm stopping short on that one. Best player in the deal now is Welker. No guarantees on Wilson. If you own him, hold him, but I can't trade a potential top-10 WR for him anymore.

Duane (Dallas)

You say D Rich hasn't done much with his opportunity in STL - correct me if I am wrong but couldn't the same statement be made about Pead with his chance last week.

Eric Karabell
  (11:53 AM)

Definitely. Looks like the Rams don't have a running game. But Pead hasn't lost his opportunity yet. He probably will soon!

Drew (Houston)

Do you love those NFC East defenses enough to take Vick over Brady ROS?

Eric Karabell
  (11:54 AM)

No. Not when one of those guys is literally hurt with something every week.

HEISENBERG (BETWEEN NH )

If . . . err, WHEN D. Murray goes down who is the Dallas RB to own?

Eric Karabell
  (11:55 AM)

Lance Dunbar. I've already added him to a few deep teams getting ready.

David (Atlanta)

Straight up trade: Welker for Spiller - which side do you like?

Eric Karabell
  (11:55 AM)

Depends solely on need. If I need a RB, then it's Spiller. Still.

Abraham (City of Bro Love)

Thoughts on DJax's ROS value if Vick ever goes down?

Eric Karabell
  (11:56 AM)

I would like Jackson less if Nick Foles were the QB, yes.

DL (Chicago)

Feeling pretty confident in your Powell over Ridley ranking?

Eric Karabell
  (11:57 AM)

Not really. But I also think 3 weeks of Ridley underachieving is enough to send any fantasy owner over the edge.

Chad (OKC)

What effect does the change of QB in TB have on VJAX value? Is he still a top 15 WR?

Eric Karabell
  (11:58 AM)

I don't think it hurts Jackson's value, no. I think he'll make plays with any QB.

Ed (Portland)

Do you dislike the Redskins pass defense so much you would start Denarius Moore over Cecil Shorts this weekend?

Eric Karabell
  (11:58 AM)

As a fantasy owner I don't dislike it, I LOVE it. It's terrible. And nobody in their right mind use the Redskins defense. But against it... oh yeah! Sure, I could have ranked Moore over Shorts.

Vince (NYC)

Kenny Britt droppable? any chance he gets traded?

Eric Karabell
  (11:59 AM)

Yes and yes. Tired of that guy. Titans must be as well. Maybe Britt and Josh Freeman can play together somewhere else.

Joseph (Astana, Kazakhstan)

Ever take a question from Central Asia? Other than Dunbar, who else are you stashing?

Eric Karabell
  (12:01 PM)

Jon Baldwin in San Fran. Wanna see how he does Thursday. And Christine Michael is legit if he gets a chance.

Eric Karabell
  (12:01 PM)

OK, that is all the time we have for today. Thanks to all for the thousands of questions. Tried to get to as many as possible! Check out the Spreecast with myself and Tristan Cockcroft Wednesdays at 2:30 pm ET and there's always another chat session on ESPN coming right up! Good luck in Week 4 and beyond!
