Hey! Let's get this started!
True or false Justin Houston will have 10.5 sacks by the end of the day Sunday.
Wow! Seems a bit lofty, but it sure is a good matchup and JH is on FIRE! Gotta love KC's D right now and he is one of a few players that just keeps getting better on that side of the ball
What's up M-dub? Do you think that the Pack shake up that backfield and let Franklin take over for Lacy at some point?
I don't think so, but I loved Franklin on Sunday with the ball in his hands. Great burst. Very quick. I am not yet sold on his protection, etc, which could be a drawback, but I think-when everyone is healthy-we have seen the last of Starks
With Gronk and Amendola coming back and a seemingly much better D, can the Pats hang with the Broncos and challenge for the AFC title?
I think so. In fact, I think that is really the only team in the AFC capable of hanging with DEN. That doesn't mean that DEN will moonwalk to the Super Bowl, but they are the class of the conference-but NENG can compete for sure when right and I do really like the Pats improved D
I saw a ranking that has Doug Free as the #1 Tackle in football so far. Is that as shocking to you as it is to me (about 10000000 volts shocking!)??
YES! I do concede that he has played very well this year and he now looks acclimated to playing RT. But still...FAR from the best OT in football! OL is better coached in terms of play calling this year as well
rank these 1-2 teams from most to least to worry about? ATL SF GB
ATL, SF, GBAY...not very worried about the Pack...quite worried about ATL and I bet they don't make the playoffs
Your take on the Giants?
Betting this is their low water mark for the season. Their turnover situation will get better and I also bet the OL improves in some way. Still, their Back 7 is a huge worry, as is their running game
with the panthers blowing out the giants 38-0 do you think that was the spark the panthers needed?
I think everything went right for CAR, but of course is was a very impressive performance. I love their Front 7 and I remain a Cam Guy overall. But I still see CAR as a 8-8 type of team if everything goes well. They need one more really good offseason
do you think that Glennon is the answer for the Bucs?
Not a huge fan, but I also don't blame TBay for making the change. Let's see what we have in Glennon. He can throw it for sure and his skill set fits what TB wants to do on O: Run the ball and take deep shots. But he made a LOT of mistakes in college.
Fantasy question - is D. Wilson a good buy low? Is D. Murray a good sell high?
Yes and Yes...That is how I play fantasy-especially dynasty. I don't care who it is, but when I think their value has peaked, I move them. For example I sold J Bell yesterday in my fantasy league to land L Bell...For Whom The Bell Tolls
Is NO's improvement on D due to a better fit for their players in the 3-4?
Yes, as well as better personnel...adding Vaccaro and Lewis is big and the DL has REALLY come into their own
How do you think the Bears look compared to the rest of the NFC?
Big Picture: I still think they are behind SEA, SF and GB, but right now, I have then only behind SEA in my Power Rankings...see Tuesday's podcast
Colts have the skill players to be dominate on offense. Can the O-line hold up it's end? They looked OK against 49ers but was that a sign of things to come or just a day they played better that their talent?
That OL was outstanding last week, but I must say I have doubts for sure. But...I consider it "Good Enough" considering all their weaponry and how good Luck really is
Do you see the Jets in a similar situation to the Panthers? Potential 8-8 with the need for 1 more really good offseason?
Perhaps. But 8-8 seems too optimistic to me for NYJ this year. Very much like their D-and it should be quite good for a while. But let's wait and see on Geno
How good is cameron jordan. Will he be close too jj watt level at end of year
No, because no one is. Watt isn't from this planet. But Jordan is Outstanding. Pro Bowler. Could be the 2nd best 3-4 DE in football very soon. A dominant player.
Has Sheldon Richardson been the most impressive defensive rookie so far?
Right at the top of the list for sure. Neck and Neck with Star L I would say off the top of my head.
How high is the ceiling with Josh Gordon?
Very high. Very high.
Kenny vacarrro has been one of best rookies so far wats ur opinion on him
A do-it-all difference maker that can be similar to what PGH does with Troy P in time. Living up to the hype for sure. Very impressive.
Lions Oline - 121 passes thrown, 2 sacks allowed....think they keep this up?
Blows me away. I thought that was DET's #1 problem entering the season. Good run blocking too. Great stuff
Seriously Matt, what's up with the Steelers? At least the Pirates are bri this city hope this year!
Like the Giants, I think we have seen the worst of the Steelers. Also like NYG, they are not a contender and will be watching the playoffs from home. Their version of a rebuilding year. Getting Miller and Bell back should pay off.
Miami comes back down to earth this week?
I think they lose, but think they are vastly improved and should play the Saints tough
What gives with the Skins tackling? Basically the same group as last year, and all of a sudden they can't tackle. How does that happen?
Not sure what to tell you. Fletcher looks very old. New young DBs. It is a mess.
Cincinnati and Cleveland are both coming off emotional wins. Who keeps it going?
I did the Double Coverage for this game and while I think CLEV fans should be excited overall, and esp after that win, I just don't think they have the talent to stay with Cincy
Offensive rookie of the year as of right now? Who do you think it'll be at the end of the year?
No one really standing out to me and I have said all along that this is a very down year for OROY, but I guess I would go with D Hopkins...who else?
How do you envision Trent and Bradshaw splitting carries the rest of the season? Bradshaw seems too good to not get at least 10 touches evry game he is healthy.
I would say that is fair-and Bradshaw excels in the passing game, esp in protection. So he will have a role. But what is nice is that Bradshaw will not be overworked and hopefully will be able to now withstand the entire season and help IND into the post season. Nice situation, but Richardson is clearly the long term solution-and a very good one.
Josh Gordon = Andre Johnson pre-injuries..fair comp?
You are not too far off, but that is too extreme. To me, Andre J is a HOFamer and a RARE physical specimen who was the 2nd or 3rd (I don't recall) pick overall coming out of college. More fluid and better lateral quickness than Gordon-stronger as well. They don't make many like Andre J
So far Cutler has looked pretty good. Assuming he keeps it up, does he get Flacco money?
Only if he hoists Lombardi
When Le'Veon Bell is fully healthy, what do you think of his talent at the NFL level? Is he going to be the answer to the Pittsburgh backfield?
I don't see him as a Pro Bowl guy, but I think he is a substantial upgrade over their present RBs. Big guy that runs hard who can also be quite effective catching the ball and withstand a lot of carries. Much more "Juice" than the guys they have now
Tom Brady for MVP
Wow...not feelin' you there. I know he has had to overcome much lesser talent around him, but I also don't think Brady himself has played great thus far. #18 in DEN is going to be tough to beat for MVP
Well Peter King is giving OROY to Kyle Long as of right now, but I think that's more of an indictment on the offensive rookies than on how well Long's playing (which is really well)
Agreed...Long is exceeding expectations and there has not been a QB/RB that has dominated. I still prefer Hopkins. Bad class for OROY however.
Looking back at the 2 WR's taken in the first round of the 2010 and 2011 draft, who ends up having the better careers Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant or Aj Green and Julio Jones?
GREAT group for sure. I think Green is clearly the "Most Special"...which is really saying something. I think I would rank them now and for their careers as: Green, Dez, Julio, DT
What is it going to take for the Bucs to actually get a franchise QB? They have been in existed since 1976, yet have never had a true franchise QB and I'm not putting my hopes into Glennon.
Wow! When you put it that way...WOW! They did have Steve Young if you recall...Ouchy
Compliments of a bad draft. That first round was void of any elite offensive skill player.
No question about it...terrible year to pick at the very top
Does the Bears D worry you, turnovers are a fickle thing
You would think, but this group is simply exceptional at creating turnovers. I tend to think it isn't an accident, but I do worry about the Melton loss a lot
Cowboys 2nd rounder Escobar is known as a poor blocker with too little bulk and arm strength...have you seen cases where a guy like that bulks up and becomes a complete player? Any comparisons come to mind?
He will prob always be a finesse/movement guy, but as you might know, as we age, we tend to pack on the pounds. He could fill out and get stronger for sure. Still a good prospect
Thoughts on Travis Frederick? Seems like he has been all Cowboys had hoped for...
A bit up and down, but yes, I think he is a quality starting NFL OC in the very near future...which is worth a late first rounder for sure
Not exactly a fair comp..but Shannon Sharpe came in as a 220 lb WR..but dude didn't lack for arm strength..became an underrated blocker...
I hear ya and that makes sense. Of course Escobar doesn't move like Sharpe
I have to admit I was skeptical, but Julius Thomas looks like the real deal.
No question...only getting better too
Thoughts on Ansah thus far? Can't believe he's only been playing football for 3 years...
Great point! Good pass rusher, but his Run D is much better than expected
DHB hasn't been all pro but has been a nice piece to the offense in Indy.A guy that has earned a 3-4 year contract with the team?
Maybe, but also quite replaceable. Hilton is the better player and I wouldn't spend a ton to keep him around
If you were the GM of a team, who would you rather have between Suh and Poe? Suh seems better of course, but Poe dominant without the headache.
Actually a tough call...Poe only getting better and Suh is a headache. But Suh is truly a special player. Guess it would depend on scheme, but Suh is safer
Thoughts on Deandre Hopkins? Can he potentially be a Roddy White type?
Great comparison, but would say Roddy is faster, esp in his prime. I do think Hopkins can be a real #1 WR, which is saying a lot
Thoughts on Dion Jordan? Looks like he's starting to figure it out, great burst off the line!
He was outstanding this past week! Coming into his own for sure! Very promising. AND...he didn't even have Wake on the other side to take the extra attention away. Just wait!
Seattle's DEF vs Denver's offense, both are 100% healthy and both bring their A game, on a nuetral field. Who you taking?
I certainly don't think we would see the same DEN O as we have seen so far in 2013 in such circumstances. I bet they hold DEN to 23ish...so, you tell me, who gets the W if that holds true? I bet SEA would take that right now.
I like the idea of developing a physical running game, but doesn't it seem a little bit crazy to take the ball out of Luck's hands as much as the Colts have so far this year?
To some degree, yes. He is a super star. But...he also has taken WAY too much punishment over his 20 NFL games
Matt, do you think Matt Cassel might start for the Vikings on Sunday?
Not yet. But the thing is, we know who Cassel is. At best he is a game manager...however, he made SO made crucial mistakes last year that he didn't qualify as a game manager-he was just a major liability.
Think the Titans have the potential to win 9 to 10 games this year??????
Maybe. Just maybe. Certainly already exceeding my expectations. Much better coached on both sides of the ball for sure. But they are just SO dependent on the running game, which frankly, doesn't work all that well in today's NFL
Is there any hope that David Wilson becomes a productive starting RB sometime in the next few weeks?
Yes. Expect this O to pick things up, including Wilson/the running game
Geno Smith or E.J. Manuel will probably be OROY. Unless a running back starts to light it up.
You are probably right, which is why the award is a bit flawed.
Folks, I gotta run! See ya next week
