Fantasy NFL with Christopher Harris

Christopher Harris
  (3:01 PM)

Hey, everyone. Welcome to your Wednesday afternoon chat. Remember: answers to your single-position questions are here -- http://espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/_/page/13ranksWeek4QB. Let's get right to your questions.....

EJ (Miami)

Chris any chance Bowe gets going vs. Giants this week? Thoughts on holding him?

Christopher Harris
  (3:02 PM)

Hi, EJ. There's always a chance! Sure, I mean, it's not going to be as bad as it was last week every week. The Chiefs know who their best aerial playmaker is. I rank Bowe 26 among WRs, but of course, a few good guys are on bye. Usable. But I'm not planning on hugeness.

Adam (NY)

Pierre Thomas caught more passes than Sproles last week...concerned at all?

Christopher Harris
  (3:04 PM)

Hi, Adam. With Ingram out, Thomas certainly has more appeal. I'm not worried about Sproles going forward -- his role is well established, and he's actually a surprising red-zone target a lot of the time. So no, I'm not losing faith in Sproles. But if Ingram stays out, I'm interested in Thomas. I think he's an add in a lot of leagues.

Kenji (Durham, NC)

Love the Underground! You've touched on this, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Rams' RB job.

Christopher Harris
  (3:08 PM)

Hi, Kenji. Week 3 was frustrating for sure, Richardson playing one play and leaving the game. Supposedly he's looking better in practice already this week than he did last, so I'm going to assume that at the moment, he's the best bet for the most work tomorrow night. Does that translate to results? Well, the Niners have been ugly vs. the run. But I don't trust him. Richardson is outside my top 30 RBs for the first time this season this week.

Keith (Orlando)

Is Bradshaw going to see a fair amount of carries for the foreseeable future?

Christopher Harris
  (3:10 PM)

Hi, Keith. I think "fair" is the right word. I don't think we're going to see something that looks like last week again any time soon. Obviously, that's just an opinion. I know Pagano said he's looking for similar balance between Bradshaw and Richardson this week, too, against the Jags. But I have a hard time imagining T-Rich was brought in to be the worse half of a platoon. This week, I think each guy is startable against a bad Jags team. Going forward, I'd imagine Bradshaw gets limited a bit more. Frankly, 22 touches a game (what he had last week) is too much if he's going to stay healthy....

Christian (M'Boro, TN)

(12 team standard) Whenever R. Gronkowski returns, am I crazy for thinking about using him and J. Cameron as my tight end and flex?

Christopher Harris
  (3:12 PM)

Hi, Christian. I don't think it's crazy at all. Cameron is still young and very "young" in terms of his fantasy relevance. But it's hard to get away from using him at the moment. I don't mind trying to sell him really high and get someone very established for him. But if you can't get that, I'm absolutely fine with him as your flex.

Mike (NC)

Is this the week Giants RB Wilson finally breaks out???

Christopher Harris
  (3:13 PM)

Hi, Mike. In a word: no. I mean, maybe. But I'm not using him in a standard league. He's lost his privileges. Right now, I put him in the same category as Roddy White...I'm holding onto them, but I'm going to miss their first good game back before feeling okay about using them.

Marcus (Dallas)

Is it time to sell on Arian Foster or buy low? Thanks.

Christopher Harris
  (3:16 PM)

Hi, Marcus. I don't think we're at a "sell" point with him at all. The doomsayers had workload concerns, and despite a few longer runs by Tate, I haven't been concerned about that. We're going to have to see Houston use the RBs more inside the the 5 -- it's been their calling card in the past, but they've been TE-heavy in the red zone so far this year. I'm not positive I'm buying low. But I'm not selling.

Mike (Poughkeepsie)

Love the Underground! And your book! And your hair! And ... OK, following up on Christian from M'Boro's question, if I wanted to move Cameron and hang onto Gronk, would he and Royal for Victor Cruz be a deal you'd endorse?

Christopher Harris
  (3:17 PM)

Hi, Mike. Well, thanks. Yes, I think that's the kind of deal I'm talking about. Cruz is WR1/2 and will help you just about every week. Love that deal.

Concerned worker ((Bosses office))

Quick, my boss took a smoke break, so I only have a few mins... Would you drop Mendy or Tate to Add LeVeon Bell? Have Shady and Sproles and will in .5 PPR... thanks...

Christopher Harris
  (3:18 PM)

I think adding Bell makes sense. I don't want to start him right away, because I don't know what we're going to get, in terms of usage *or* performance. So -- am I dropping Mendy or Tate? I'm loath to do it, but yeah, if I feel solid with McCoy and Sproles, I'll go ahead and drop Mendy and live with Bell's possibility....

Nick (Los Angeles)

How long before Broyles is a Fantasy Starter?

Christopher Harris
  (3:21 PM)

Hi, Nick. I'll say it's still a few weeks -- we'd need to see the knees be healthy on a consistent basis. I have no doubt the skill is there for it to happen (especially in a PPR league) if he can play a full snap count and be the guy we saw last year...

Barry (KC)

Hey Chris. What does the tape tell you about Greg Jennings? Do you think that it will help him if Cassel starts this weekend?

Christopher Harris
  (3:24 PM)

Hi, Barry. The tape tells me most of all that Christian Ponder is a problem. He's just not good, and I have real doubts that he's going to make any of his weapons be solid every-week starts. Jennings is running out of the slot mostly, and he's open sometimes. He's mostly made short plays, and really only has one red-zone look that I can remember, which came last week, and he couldn't haul it in. I'm not to the point of dropping him yet. Couple more weeks of nothing, I may get there.

Jim (Dallas)

Is Bilal Powell a good Flex option going forward?

Christopher Harris
  (3:25 PM)

Hi, Jim. This week, anyway, I'm on board. Chris Ivory sounds unlikely to play with his bad hamstring, and that makes Powell just about an every-down back with Alex Green backing him up. I think you could do a lot worse.

Jack (PA)

Would you rather have Montee ball or Willis Mcgahee?

Christopher Harris
  (3:29 PM)

Hi, Jack. I'd probably want to keep McGahee right now. It's kind of shocking...I really liked Ball coming in the season. If I had to choose one, right now, it's McGahee, even coming off that unimpressive first day.

jalen (MI)

Time to cut the cord on MJD? I'm drafting him as a RB2...

Christopher Harris
  (3:31 PM)

Hi, Jalen. No! You can't drop a guy you drafted that high. You can bench him. You can't drop him.

Devon (New York)

Hi Christopher,Love your support for one of my favorite podcasts, Filmspotting. Two of my favorite things, fantasy sports and film colliding! Here's a fantasy question: would you buy low on Roddy White and CJ Spiller? I'm thinking of proposing a Moreno/DJax offer or a TRich/Wright offer. This is a keeper league. Thoughts?

Christopher Harris
  (3:32 PM)

Hi, Devon. Thanks. Love Filmspotting, and got to meet Adam when I was in Chicago last month. Yeah, honestly, I would buy low on both those guys. I don't think I'd trade T-Rich in a keeper league. I'm very bullish on his Colts career.

Juice (Atlanta)

Is Ray Rice trustworthy for a start this week given he went full practice today?

Christopher Harris
  (3:33 PM)

Hi, Juice. I didn't rank Rice last night, so on the site right now, you'll see I have Pierce up there pretty high. But you're right, as an update, I'm going to have to put Rice up there. I haven't quite processed where I'm going to have him...probably not quite as high as Pierce alone, because of the risk. But I'm going to have him higher than Pierce....

Avery (Las Colinas)

Jack kinda stole my thunder but piggybacking on his question, is dropping Montee Ball OK, even if it's for a crazy speculative add like Lance Dunbar since we all know DeMarco Murray is the Michael Vick of RBs?

Christopher Harris
  (3:34 PM)

Hi, Avery. I don't think I'm quite going that far. I don't think I'd drop Ball for a *total* lottery ticket in a deeper league. (I assume it's a deeper league, if Dunbar is the best guy you can get.) I'm concerned Ball is far from fantasy value. But I'm not positive.

Chris (Colorado)

If Pryor is out, how much of a hit does Mcfadden's value take?

Christopher Harris
  (3:35 PM)

Hi, Chris. It would be huge, and it would stink...DMC was pretty dreadful even *with* Pryor on Monday night. (Boy, was I ever rescued by garbage-time in that game!) But that was Denver, and this is Washington. With Flynn under center, I'd like DMC less than I do now.

Jacob (Kansas City)

If buying low for Spiller is ok, would offering MJD and Lamar Miller be a trade?

Christopher Harris
  (3:36 PM)

Hi, Jacob. I think it's too much, to be honest. I put MJD in the same category as Spiller -- though I agree that Spiller *should* be a better version. Giving up Miller, too, seems to be to be excessive. MJD and a WR2/3 for Spiller? That's closer for me.

Jay (AR)

Is Kaepernick going to shake this rut? I've been offered him and Roddy for Brady. How you feel about that?

Christopher Harris
  (3:38 PM)

Hi, Jay. I like the value in the trade. I think it gets better for Kap as soon as tomorrow night. But if Roddy is useless for another 6 weeks, you'll have downgraded at QB (I guess, assuming Brady picks it back up with Gronk playing) for not much benefit. But it's a value play on Roddy. If you can hold on him and then feel okay about starting him once he's showed he's back, I can deal with it.

Greg (Boston)

Don't agree with your take on Pryor/DMC. Flynn is a more polished passer than Pryor and not a runner, so I think Ds wouldn't be stacking the box as much with Flynn in there, which would open up some stuff for DMC even with screens too.

Christopher Harris
  (3:40 PM)

Hi, Greg. I respect your opinion (which is why I posted). I don't view Flynn as all that polished. There's a reason why he's lost out on two straight starting jobs. But my reasoning is much more about the offensive line in Oakland. I just don't think a statuesque QB is going to hold much hope, and the offense will bog down....

Chris (NYC)

All the ESPN articles keep saying Michael Floyd gets a lot of red zone looks and will be productive. Getting very hard to hang on. What' your take?

Christopher Harris
  (3:43 PM)

Hi, Chris. Yeah, listen, one good game, two pretty bad ones, but that kind of stands for the entire offense, y'know? I think you'd feel the same way about Andre Roberts, and it's not like Fitz owners are dancing. The problem isn't Palmer, the problem is the o-line. The QB had no time against the Saints. If it's me, I'm holding on. But I understand the temptation to invest elsewhere.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

There's a lot of evidence that a rushing QB *helps* a RB, typically by freezing the DE or accounting for the QB in other ways...

Christopher Harris
  (3:44 PM)

Sure, Scott. In fact, that's the premise of last week's Fantasy Underground: Film Room! http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9692565

Franklin (Duluth)

Do the rankings take into account upside? For example, I don't care about the risk of taking a zero - who can post the biggest numbers for week 4: Rivers, Cutler or Pryor?

Christopher Harris
  (3:45 PM)

Hi, Franklin. When I rank, I feel like I have to *balance* upside and steadiness...so upside is taken into account, but it's not the only factor. If you're hoping to get a huge output and don't mind the risk, I would probably say Pryor, provided he's active from the concussion....

bob (rockford ill)

do you really think it will take 6 weeks for Roddy to be a legitimate weekly play?

Christopher Harris
  (3:46 PM)

Hi, Bob. No, it was really just an extreme example. I think after the Falcons' bye in Week 6, White will probably be better...

DL (Chicago)

So upside is what awards Le'Veon Bell a 27 ranking even though he's a guy you "don't want to start right away"?

Christopher Harris
  (3:47 PM)

Hi, DL. Yeah, that and the way the Lions made the Vikings run defense look in Week 1. (They stopped the Browns on the ground last week, but it's not as though Cleveland stayed committed to it.) Plus a couple teams are on bye. Plus RB is getting kind of gnarly even that high....

Nick (Houston)

Should Ridley owners give up on him yet?

Christopher Harris
  (3:48 PM)

Hi, Nick. I encourage you to listen to this week's Fantasy Underground podcast. (Search for it on ESPN.com.) We went into Ridley and Bolden right away at the beginning of the show, and got into it with more detail and nuance than I can give here....

Eric (Chicago)

Longtime Underground listener first time caller, would you drop K. Rudolph for H. Miller? Also have Fleener on bench.

Christopher Harris
  (3:52 PM)

Hi, Eric. Thanks for listening. I do have Rudolph rated higher for this week. Want to see Miller be himself, which is no guarantee considering how bad the knee injury was. But we all know Rudolph's story...not a yardage guy, probably needs TDs to be worth starting. I don't hate the move, if you don't think Miller will last. (I also don't hate losing Fleener...they're all kind of the same in my book...)

Braden (CA)

Will Vincent Brown be relevant this year at all?

Christopher Harris
  (3:53 PM)

Hi, Braden. In a 10-team league? I'm starting to have my doubts. The Chargers have to do something with their WR corps...they're not getting any production from the outside, and the o-line hasn't really been as bad as initially feared. Right now, all outside WRs in San Diego are disappointing and worthless. I don't mind dropping Brown. But I also think at some point, *somebody* has to become relevant out there...you can't go a whole season and not throw it to outside guys. Can you?

David (Columbia)

Thoughts on Spiller ROS and would you trade Edelman/Wallace to get him?

Christopher Harris
  (3:54 PM)

Hi, David. We're going to talk at length about Spiller on tomorrow's Fantasy Underground podcast, so download that for a full discussion. But frankly, that kind of trade offer is exactly the kind of "buy low" I'm talking about. I would do that.

JK (DC)

How badly does Romo's lack of a reliable #2 WR hurt his value and production? Austin seems to be unable to stay healthy and Terrance Williams seems unproven to say the least.

Christopher Harris
  (3:57 PM)

Hi, JK. They didn't really need *any* receiving threats last week, but that's obviously likely to be an exception. The easy answer is...Witten is the second receiving threat. Romo is what he is...he's a good fantasy player who a couple times a year will do to your fantasy team what he does to the Cowboys: explode all over it. But this week against the Chargers, I love him. Good matchup.

Ryan (Montana)

Sell or hold Antonio Brown?

Christopher Harris
  (4:00 PM)

Hi, Ryan. I think you have a good sense of what he is...he's a WR2/3 most weeks, and the Steelers don't look very good, so there are likely to be some crummy weeks. But there are a lot of guys who fit that description, and not many of them can go off like he did last week. So I'd say: If someone wants to pay you like he's Victor Cruz, I'd do it. Otherwise, I'd hold.

Christopher Harris
  (4:01 PM)

All right, gang. I'm in Bristol, and have to get started on the Fantasy Underground: Film Room segment, so I must away. (This week, we're doing Gio Bernard...evaluating his film.) I know it can be frustrating not to get your question answered, and I try my best...but we got 2,400 in an hour. (Which is incredible.) I'm very thankful for your interest, and never once take it for granted. Follow me @CHarrisESPN, and I'll try and get back to you there. Have a great afternoon.
