Good afternoon everyone...I hope everything is good in your world today and let's get this partaaayyy started!
Hi Mark, What the heck happened to the other guys chats the use to do. Just wondering and bummed. Thanks
Steve, it's just part of ESPN cutting back it's NASCAR coverage I would assume.
Who do you think will win the 5-Hour Energy 200 & the AAA 400 at Dover?
Joey Logano has won three Nationwide Series races in a row why not four?...and as for Sunday thinking Jimmie Johnson followed closely by Kyle Busch.
I have a combined six starts remaining in Yahoo! between Matt Kenseth (4) and Jimmie Johnson (2).Except for maybe Clint Bowyer at Talladega or Jeff Gordon at Martinsville am I nuts to consider anyone else in the A group the rest of the way? I'd hate to waste starts from Kenseth and "five-time".
I agree with your thinking totally Zach so I'd start by taking Johnson for Dover.
Hell-o Mark, The 5 just RUINED MY DAY @ Loudon. Should I stick with him or go with anyone of these, 56, 27, 22, 43, 1 or 42? Thanks again for all you do any putting up with the likes of yours truly, Bill
For Dover Bill, the 22 has been top-10 three races in a row and would be a decent risk to take over the 5...and you're welcome Bill...and I have a blast talking to everyone..you guys are the best!
Mark Any idea moving forward what the NASCAR Fantasy deal looks like for you and Jayski? Thanks, Bill
Do you know anyone who needs a Guru with a slightly cloudy crystal ball? lol
Do you think that Jeff Gordon deserved to make the chase?
Given the circumstances Bart the pros outweigh the cons on this one. I didn't like the idea of expanding the field, but Gordon had raced his way into position to make the Chase and that was taken away because of some monkey business.
My top ten, 48 18 2 24 99 15 20 5 78 29, are we close?
I'm not as high on the 99 and 5 as you are Don..so eight of our top-10 are the same..I have Logano and Junior my other two.
1.Jimmie Johnson2.Kyle Busch3.Jeff Gordon4.Matt Kenseth5.Brad Keselowski6.Clint Bowyer7.Kurt Busch8.Kevin Harvick9.Joey Logano10.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.11.Carl Edwards12.Martin Truex, Jr.13.Kasey Kahne14.Mark Martin15.Greg Biffle16.Jeff Burton17.Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.18.Ryan Newman19.Denny Hamlin20.Brian Vickers21.Juan Pablo Montoya22.Marcos Ambrose23.A.J. Allmendinger24.Aric Almirola25.Jamie McMurray26.Paul Menard27.Casey Mears28.David Ragan29.Danica Patrick30.Ryan Truex
Mark, Joe Gibbs team is looking strong after the big finish this weekend. Who's better moving foward Kenseth or Busch? Will Denny deliver in the cup this year?
I like Busch a little better at Dover this weekend, but Kenseth a tick more the next two weeks at Kansas and Charlotte. As for Hamlin, they looked pretty good last week at New Hampshire...If they continue to try stuff for the other two cars, he'll be top-10 a few times, but their crew chief Darian Grub told me at NH they are not going way out there anymore on their experimentation so that will help..Just can't believe how bad his numbers have been since finishing eighth at Pocono in June.
My first choice for this weeks fab five 18 48 2 14 and (55 or 17). My back up plan if I take 47 I can add 18 48 20 and one of (17 55 14). What do you think?
I'd be tempted to take Allmendinger figuring him as someone who can finish 16th - 19th if he doesn't have any trouble. Then take a hard look at which guy among the 17,55, and 14 practiced and qualified the best. Stenhouse should be a lock for a top-15.
QUESTION TO MARK THE GURU GARROW AT 3.25 PM WHO WINS DOVER SUNDAY
I'm thinking it's Jimmie Johnson followed by Kyle Busch nipping at his heels.
Guru, Happy Hump Day to you... Just 1 ESPN team today 48-20-78-31-17... thoughts / concerns...
On paper going in 48 and 20 potential top-5..78 potential top-10...31 and 17 potential top-15..So that looks pretty good Mike.
Is it safe to assume that 5 hour energy is staying at MWR... because the way I see it it that they would have left before or close to NAPA when NAPA left.
Can't speak for them..a lot more goes into these decisions than we know Mike..Feel like 5-Hour should stay though maybe up the ante, sponsor a few more races.
Would NAPA be willing to sponsor the nationwide series in '14 or do they want to stay with a cup team. Its less to do the whole nationwide series and they still could do an associate sponsor for someone in Cup... Not trying to spend their money but it makes the most sense to be seen by a wider audience
I think they like the idea of teaming up with another Sprint Cup team. I think that's the direction they're going, but never say never.
Hey mark! I talked to u last week about me being a fantasy champion in a very prestigious invitation only league . What do u think of these picks for a salry cap game: 48 18 24 56 and great buy low option this week the 47, p.s sorry for not talking u out of Michael McDowell last week lol
Jose...still scored a respectable 173 with that crazy strategy last week...but one thing about that it didn't change the balance of the world..lol..I like the 22 more than the 56 this week..and 47 is probably the best low, low floor pick.
Do you think Ryan Truex would be a good floor pick this week along with 4 heavyweights?
He might Beckie...but have a feeling shifting drivers every week is starting to have a negative effect on the Phoenix Racing team..I though McDowell would be easy 25th or better in that car and they struggled all weekend from the time they rolled off the truck.
Any chance at all that Tony races again this season?
No Jason, this deal with his leg is very serious and Tony, it seems to me, is following orders from the doctors very closely. He's on crutches now..but,again, never say never........
Mark, hope all is well. Loudon was a bit of a mixed bag, thought the 39 would do better. This week for ESPN I have: 48-99-2-55-17 and maxed out in $. For Y! I have: 48-18-99-17. Locked in using one of the 2 remaining starts with the 48 on Dover as well as one of the 3 remaining starts w/the 18 and 99. However thought about maybe using of the 16's 5 starts left over the 99 or one of the 4 starts remaining w/the 88 over the 99. Have 5 left with the 17 but Mears and the 13 ran really well at Dover in the spring so I am thinking of using a start w/him potentially over the 17. Thoughts?
For ESPN Nick I'd dump the 99 for the 24 or the 78 or 22 to open more cap space that may help you move up with one of your other pics...As for the Y!I might try the 88 over the 99...and leave the 17 alone..
We use each driver once per half-season. Can you throw out some names of part time drivers in decent to good equipment that might be worth a look. Ryan Truex, Trevor Bayne for example.
Jason, unfortunately Jason...Truex is about it at Dover..
Mark, tentatively going with 48, 18, 20, 31, and 47 this weekend but will check practices and qualifying to see if any changes necessary. How does this look to you?
On paper I can live with that Terry...potential for 180 plus and that's not too shabby.
Hi Mark...day of vacation, so I am able to read the chat in progress today. Just want to throw an idea out there in regards to NAPA and Truex. It would be a good time for Petty, or anyone for that matter to go with Dodge, hire Truex, and have NAPA agree to sponser.at do you think?
Doug, I think a lot of teams would obviously like to make that manuever...I think NAPA likes Truex and there are rumors Gibbs has made a pitch for the two and a fourth car. They, however, are denying that..Hear NAPA has also talked to Stewart-Haas and I would assume that would be concerning Kurt Busch...and just throwing this out..Dale Jr. needs a sponsor too and with his automotive businesses maybe there is something Rick Hendrick can build into the deal that would have money going in two directions..just again throwing that out there.
As always thanks for the info Mark. A couple of other questions for you. With the announcement that Quicken Loans to the 31, does that give the 31 full funding w/CAT and QL I take it?Also the news of Hornish probably leaving Penske, does this mean that Blaney will be full time essentially in NNS? Thanks as always for the info Mark.
I don't think the 31 is completely filled up now for 2014 but they have to be pretty close..Penske Racing is openly campaigning for Hornish to get the 78 ride so...A)He gets another shot at Cup which they'd like to see him get B) that would open up their #12 Nationwide ride...how this all plays out remmains to be seen.
Do they still have Horse Racing at Dover International Speedway?
I'd like to say they have a short season..but I'm not really sure.
If Hornish got the 78 ride would that mean they have some alliance w/Penske and switch to Ford possibly?
No, that wouldn't do that. Furniture Row is set up to go again with their RCR alliance..Truex is a player in the 78 ride now that he's potentially a free agent...which could mean NAPA going in completely different direction I just don't know..but 78 is sticking with Chevy...too late to be changing now on top of that.
Who is the Best Female NASCAR Driver that you have ever seen?
To this point it would have to be Danica..She's nearly won the Indy 500...Held her own in this year's Daytona 500...Still learning the stock cars, but has a lot of talent..just needs time..One thing I really like about her is the "racer" attitude she comes at it with..She really wants to make it as a driver not a "female driver".
Looks like Kenseth can't fly below the radar now. I know it's early in the Chase but do you see him continuing to roll all the way to the Championship?
I think he's going to be very tough. Dover in the past has been a decent track for him...by the way..the Guru is two for two..putting Kenseth atop by race day rankings both weeks..Also had Kyle and JJ top-5 last in my rankings...and told people at the start of this Chase...not the same old Kyle Busch..he'd drive and behave differently and so far I've been right there too.
Do you think NAPA leaving MWR is the first crack that leads to MWR crumbling?
This is a very big blow no doubt about that..and you can bet everyone there is wondering if they'll have a job come December/January. Aaron's is a big deal too so they can consolidate from three to two cars and still be okay..but one of their crew chiefs told me that would mean 80-90 people would lose jobs.
Mark Martin this weekend looks very tempting....are you biting on him as a mid level non chase contender? I am thinking 48-78-18-14-51. Thoughts?
Thomas, Martin is on my radar...but...Dover has never been a great track for Stewart...and Martin has just not clicked with this team yet..not sure what the problem is, but they are not running and finishing up their capabilities...I'd be concerned about expecting too much out of the 51 as well..I might start over and go bottom up...no lower though than the 47 with Allmendinger at the controls and see what you can build.
I quit watching when Rusty retired. Give me one good reason to start watching again.
Otto, really the competition isn't bad...there seems to be a compelling story or two every week...and most importantly...we want you back my man!
Follow up question to my first. If I go with Dinger the best compliment I could get is Mears or Danica....is that better than Martin and R Truex?
At this point Thomas that's almost a coin toss..not revved up about either one...I'd guess my advice would be to wait until after practice and qualifying to pull the trigger on one or the other.
So what is your preliminary Dover Team?
For my preliminary team at Dover, I am going to keep Jimmie Johnson, and Kyle Busch, but make painful decision to trade Matt Kenseth along with Clint Bowyer and Michael McDowell. My three additions are Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton and Denny Hamlin.
I'm figuring on picking Kenseth back up at Kansas..
Thanks for the help....you will probably see a question from me on the pre-race chat. I may name my team "Not Revved Up" in honor of the Guru.
ha ha...thanks Thomas...you da man!
Well, that's going to do it for today. Our Dover race day chat is Sunday morning at 11:30 eastern time..Hope you can join us. Until then please have a great day and a great week..Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
