Fantasy Injuries with Stephania Bell

Stephania Bell
  (11:50 AM)

Good morning and Happy Friday everyone...

Paul (Indianapolis, IN)

You've been right on Gronk so far. Will he play in week 4?

Stephania Bell
  (11:52 AM)

Paul: I have the least amount of certainty about this week. I think he has a good shot of suiting up for the first time Sunday. He's been doing very well in practice and I think the sentiment is he's essentially ready to take it to the next level. BUT...that does not mean an entire game. It likely means he's restricted to certain plays and that his total time on the field is limited. Final phase of rehab is game play.

Gil ((ESPN Cafeteria))

Amendola said he anticipated being 100 percent soon, your take?

Stephania Bell
  (11:54 AM)

Gil: Glad to see he's optimistic but I think he's still a few weeks away from playing. Tearing adductors is a bad injury, even if there's no surgery and you allow it to scar down. That process takes time as does regaining your mobility, power.

Zach (St. Louis)

I just traded MJD for CJ Spiller straight up... I'm pretty happy about that. Please tell me that CJ's quad injury will cause little long-term problems.

Stephania Bell
  (11:56 AM)

Zach: I think his return to full practice this week is a really positive sign that he's getting past this fairly quickly. And hopefully no setbacks. Worry a bit about his risk going forward, just in general.

Pete (Fort Mill SC)

Just saw that Bradshaw's not practicing today - keeping him rested, or reason for concern?

Stephania Bell
  (11:58 AM)

Pete: I haven't seen today's practice news yet but he was held out W, Th due to a neck injury sustained last week. Last year he did have the cervical disk issue which resulted in a missed game. Have not heard the hint that he sits yet but certainly want to keep an eye on updates later today. Sounds like they will lean more on Richardson either way.

I traded for R. White. Will he be 100% after his bye?

Stephania Bell
  (11:59 AM)

Still waiting for him to turn the corner. I hear he's still limping a bit just walking around so I think he'll need the bye. He's playing so it's got to be stable...but likely at a plateau for now.

JC (DC)

How much action will Le'Veon Bell see this week? My other RB options are Lamar Miller and Joique Bell.

Stephania Bell
  (12:01 PM)

JC: Don't expect it will be a full game. Think he'll play flex-worthy snaps. They will pay close attention to how his foot is responding in game. I don't expect any setbacks but they do not want to overwork him and risk that in his first outing. Not sure how many backs you start but I'd have Miller for sure, probably J Bell over L Bell.

Tommy (CA)

What about Pryor... you think he'll be cleared?

Stephania Bell
  (12:02 PM)

Tommy: no. was only doing very light work yesterday. mostly watching. suspect he sits out.

Dave (Lonmont, CO)

TY Hilton in walking boot now? Combined with groin should I avoid him Sunday or just precautionary? Thanks!

Stephania Bell
  (12:05 PM)

Dave: It's new. Hilton had been dealing with a groin issue recently but was NOT on the injury report for W, Th. Now today spotted in boot, suspicious for something having happened late in practice or after. No indication of what or how serious. Team's final practice report this evening should give a hint.

Stephania's Curse (Believe It!)

Hi Stephania, at this point with Larry Fitz, are we more concerned that he's not 100% for the weekend than we are with Palmer & the passing game in general or vice-versa?

Stephania Bell
  (12:07 PM)

Nah, don't believe it. Fitz sure looks like a guy who's 100 percent or close to it. Full practice, no limits every day. Biggest challenge may be Revis although remember he's still working back from ACL surgery. TB defense in general prob biggest concern in this matchup.

Jimmy (Fiji)

How are Vincent Jackson's ribs? Does he play this week?

Stephania Bell
  (12:09 PM)

Jimmy: Are you really in Fiji? Jealous. Anyway, VJax returned to Friday practice after sitting the earlier ones out. Sounds like he will try to give it a go, prob wearing extra padding, etc. May still be sore. And of course the final decision may not come until Sunday.

Kate (MASS)

Hey Sister! How is my guy Miles Austin doing... will he play this weekend?

Stephania Bell
  (12:11 PM)

Kate: Back at you. Austin very iffy if you ask me. Only doing side work yesterday and very light work at that. Obviously everyone concerned about this getting worse. He's going to need to show some improvement between now and then for them to let him out there.

Eric (Boston)

Any Eddie Lacy updates? Has he passed the concussion tests yet?

Stephania Bell
  (12:12 PM)

Eric: They're not giving out too much info this week while on bye. But based on his progress so far, I think we can expect to see him in Week 5.

Randy (Loma Linda, CA)

Any news on Rice? If he's starting, I'm starting him?

Stephania Bell
  (12:14 PM)

Randy: Leaning towards him playing, although he has been held to limited practices. Imagine he plays although the work between him and Pierce may be pretty well split. Can't sit him if he starts really.

Alex (Miami)

Follow up on Spiller, please! Chances his injury could be easily aggravated during game? Standard 8 be safe and use Pierce instead? Thanks

Stephania Bell
  (12:16 PM)

Alex: Always a chance these guys can regress in game. Once we're a few weeks into the season it's rare that guys are truly fully healthy. But if Spiller practices fully every day with no sitbacks, hard to sit him based on risk alone.

Walter (Hartford)

How healthly is MJD? Thinking about trading DeAngelo Williams for him.

Stephania Bell
  (12:18 PM)

Walter: Pretty healthy. The fact he was able to play last week after straining a tendon near his foot the week before - and get some decent work against a tough Seattle D without a setback -is a pretty strong sign for this week and for going forward. I'd make the trade. J Stewart will return for Panthers, prob in 3 weeks.

Dan (NY)

Is Mike Williams going to play Sunday?

Stephania Bell
  (12:19 PM)

Dan: He indicated he would. Was out W,Th witht the hamstring but back in practice Friday. Sounds like he is planning on it.

Kyle (NY)

Would it be crazy to start Fred Jackson over Spiller this week?

Stephania Bell
  (12:21 PM)

Kyle: Hmm. Not sure I'm starting him OVER Spiller. Still like FJax as a flex though, even if Spiller is playing.

tim (san fran)

Any updates on Malcom Floyd?

Stephania Bell
  (12:22 PM)

tim: Still not practicing as he recovers from the neck injury. Will be a slow progression, imagine that translates to a few weeks.

James (McLean, VA)

To piggy back on the Eddie Lacy questions - do you think its worth it to pick up Lacy this week while he is on a bye, and drop someone like Joique Bell, Fred Jackson, Knowshon Moreno, or Deangelo Williams? All those guys are or are soon to be timeshare guys. Thanks.

Stephania Bell
  (12:23 PM)

James: I'm actually surprised Lacy is available in your league, but yes! Pick him up. J Bell prob my next favorite to hang onto with FJax next.

JB (Milwaukee)

Stephania your expertise is better than my guess so when do you think Steven Jackson plays again and will his thigh be a reoccurring issue?

Stephania Bell
  (12:24 PM)

JB: Sounds like he's dealing with a Grade 2 strain based on their early assessment that he would miss multiple weeks. I think he's out until after the bye for Atlanta which puts him back around Week 7. Recognizing, of course, timelines with these things are always fluid.

Justin (SF)

Hello Ms. Bell, would you happen to know any specifics on Steven Jackson's injury, other than that it's his thigh? Also, do you see him returning next week, or after Atlanta's bye week?

Stephania Bell
  (12:25 PM)

Justin: Yes, it's his hamstring.

Todd (Philly)

Is Daryl Richardson just bad (along with his o-line) - or is the injury to his ankle/foot really driving his poor performances such as last night?

Stephania Bell
  (12:27 PM)

Todd: Hard to separate and quantify. Richardson had some difficulty running in Week 2 on the foor and then left within minutes of the kickoff of Week 3. But he insisted the foot was not an issue this week, reports that he looked better in practice. So if he's being truthful, chalk it up to the other issues. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's not quite 100%, which certainly doesn't help his cause.

Perry (Baltimore)

How is Brandon Bolden's knee? Is Leon Washington even healthy enough to take away more touches from him or do you see Bolden as the clear cut pass catching RB for the Patriots?

Stephania Bell
  (12:31 PM)

Perry: Bolden still being held to limited work. But he was last week too and still caught a handful of passes in addition to his carries. Not sure how healthy Washington is either since he's still being held to limited work as well. Don't see anything that would alter Bolden's role right now.

Joe (NY)

Knowing Gronk could be limited, start Julius Thomas over him? Thanks!

Stephania Bell
  (12:34 PM)

Joe: I think you have to start your regular tight end because the Patriots don't play until Sunday night. You may not have an answer on Gronk until gametime. Even then you don't know exactly how much he'll do in this game. You've waited this long. Why not wait until you see if he goes/how much he does? There are still 12 (11 b/c of bye) more weeks to use him.

Scott (On Cloud Nine)

Any news on Percy Harvin with the Hip? I read he is rehabing in New York? Think he comes back by week 9 and worth picking up or wont be back til after week 11

Stephania Bell
  (12:38 PM)

Scott: No timeline from the team at all. The earliest he can return is Week 7 but keep in mind he would just be rejoining team, no real practice with them. The biologic aspect of the repair says that's the soonest but they will be evaluating the strength of all the core muscles, the muscles that protect his hip, his endurance, agility, mobility, power before they stick him in a game. Given how well he's been doing think it's reasonable he beats the 4 month timeline (usual minimum before a return from this) but too early to project how much.

Stephania Bell
  (12:38 PM)

Hey Troy at State College: Don't come to the chat then.

Brian (SC)

Struggling at QB here....who do you like more ROS: Bradford, Palmer or Smith? Or try and pick up Pryor off WW with him being dropped today. And no, I thankfully didn't start Bradford against your 49ers.

Stephania Bell
  (12:40 PM)

Brian: Like what I've seen from Pryor so far - most upside perhaps b/c he can move better than any of the others. Palmer in that offense should have some good upcoming matchup weeks though too (not counting this one).

Neil (Milwaukee)

Can I roll with Roddy White this Sunday?

Stephania Bell
  (12:43 PM)

Neil: You can. He'll (in all likelihood) play. But as I said earlier, he's still been spotted limping in the locker room, clearly not 100%, probably won't get much better production than you have last few weeks until he's further along. Time is moving forward but it may be that the bye week will be his best friend - and that comes in Week 6.

Chuck (Philly)

Better shape going into this weekend: Andre Johnson or Mike Wallace?

Stephania Bell
  (12:45 PM)

Chuck: Based on reports on Johnson and how sore he still is, have to say Wallace.

TJ (Maryland)

I currently have S. Johnson starting at WR but he is listed as questionable. Do I start Edelman over him this week or wait until Sunday to find out Johnsons final status? Thanks.

Stephania Bell
  (12:46 PM)

TJ: He is a question mark but I think Johnson will play. They are consciously controlling practice effort this week with a Thursday game next week. And if Johnson plays, prob lean towards him.

Stephania Bell
  (12:46 PM)

Have to run - thanks for coming! Will post Saturday blog with all the updates. Good luck in Week 4!
