Happy Tuesday everyone...Hope your teams aren't too bitten by the injury bug. Not as bad a week as some in terms of adding to the injury list. Who are you worried about?
What did Locker exactly do to his hip?
Mike: They haven't offered a ton of details but here's what we can interpret. The worst would have been dislocation/fracture. Remember Dennis Pitta? He had a dislocation, then needed surgery to remove some fragments which chipped off due to the trauma. In Locker's case the hip may have slipped - which is really hard to do, gives you an idea of the forces on it - and caused a lot of pain, swelling, some trauma in the area, but nothing surgical. Now becomes a matter of time to get comfortable, get the hip strong enough to get him back out there. Wide range of time b/c it's unknown how long it will take.
How is CJ looking and Fred Jackson for that matter?
Zach: Because of the Thurs game, both could be gtd although Jackson practiced Monday and seemed a little further along than Spiller. Have not yet heard today's practice report and Tuesday usually most critical day for Thurs game. Spiller said he wanted to be about 80-85% to feel like he could play (although also said he wanted to play) but unsure. For both becomes a matter of can they recover enough in 4 days to be effective?
Worried about Alfred Morris. I read the injury to his ribs wasn't serious but with Helu lurking and the RB history from his coach...time to shop Morris? Thanks.
Matt: Not yet. They benefit from the bye week. While there's no guarantee that he's back in Week 6, the bye could not come at a better time. They're not giving up on him that easily and you shouldn't either.
Is Lacy healthy enough to carry the full load? Being if Starks is out this week?
James: If he's back from the concussion - which it appears he is - then he's fully back. The issue in GB now is depth behind him, just in terms of rotation in game and, of course, if something else happens. Starks's knee did not sound good. They never gave anything specific but even he said he could not have played last week, then he did not practice Monday.
Please tell me MJD is still having lingering effects from his injury...he can't possibly be this bad can he?
Josh: He's not and he isn't. That is one bad offense. somehow he's managed to excel despite that in the past but it's just not happening now. Still, can't blame this entirely on him.
How confident are you that Stephen Jackson returns after the bye week and remains healthy the rest of the year?
Mark: Not confident on either count right now. All we know is that seems to be the target. Until he's doing more football-like activity it's too soon to assume it's a done deal. And then remaining healthy? Always a worry about soft tissue injuries with him and following a moderate hamstring strain, recurrence risk hgher.
Is it time to consider trading Roddy White or is his ankle injury getting better?
Tobias: If you've held onto him this long, don't trade him now unless you're absolutely getting value somewhere else that you need it. He looked better last week and after the bye I have higher hopes.
Concerned about Finley. Any info on his status?
Dave: Still not practicing Monday. Haven't heard about today. If not practicing by Thursday would not plan on him playing.
If Amendola is active, would you play him (alternatives are Nicks & Smith)? Is he at a greater risk of re-aggrevating it if he comes back too quickly?
Dan: I would normally play the other two you have the first week he comes back IF it's this week, which is soon given the injury. BUT, with the Giants offense looking the way it has and Nicks being essentially invisible as a result, I'm not sure I don't roll the dice with Amendola. If I haven't convinced you already why he's an injury risk, he's even more of one coming off this thing.
What's up with Gronk? He is killing me to start the season
Kelly: Not sure I understand why fantasy owners are saying this. We knew at the start of the year that he was likely to miss the first few weeks. I've been consistent in saying I did not think he would return before Week 4. So until this week, it's been what we've expected. Now he appears on the threshold of returning but not quite comfortable with doing so. This week away vs Cinci - maybe he goes but I think this is a big Q now. Might just wait until home game Week 6. And EVEN THEN, do not expect a full game from him. If the guy's apprehensive, then having him in a full game is not how you're going to start.
How is L Bell feeling after first game back?
Andy: Apparently pretty good. That was a nice first outing for him coming off that injury. Expect him to continue to improve.
This far in and we haven't talked about Run DMC yet? What's the story there? Any chance he plays this week?
Adam: Probably b/c we're so used to seeing him here that it just doesn't feel like news. And the Raiders are offering nothing. Per Allen, "too soon to say" whether he misses time.
Any update on Miles Austin? Need to determine if I should invest in Terrance Williams stock for the remainder of the season.
Parris: Nothing of significance. Even if Austin returns this week we're all going to be leery about that hamstring so why not stash Williams if you have the space.
Terrelle Pryor: how likely is he to start this week?
Stephania: Time to roster P. Harvin? Thanks!
Ed: If you can afford the space, why not? All indications are that he is doing really well with rehab. Still, do not expect with Seahawks doing great, the general caution around these surgeries, etc, that he will rush. I think that may even have been part of the strategy for him moving his rehab to New York. Away from the team and that feeling of wanting to get with the guys. But he could potentially help you last third to quarter of the season.
How concerned should we be with Spiller's ankle?
Drew: Concerned enough that he might not play.
How is Ray Rice's hip? Also, is Bernard Pierce healthy? Both had low carries? Was it the game plan or both injured?
Perry: I think he came out of the game OK, just didn't do much. Pierce came out with a calf strain. But ultimately they just didn't do much on the ground.
My choices this week: Santonio Holmes, Lance Moore or grasp at WW straw. Which way am I headed?
Zeke: Not Holmes. Looks like he'll miss multiple weeks with the hamstring. Moore we have no details on but he never practiced last week, can't count on him. Better hit the WW.
Is there any reason for me to keep starting Chris johnson over moreno? I keep waiting for the homerun
Charles: No kidding. I have him in one league and I regret it. I benched him one week and it paid off. Can't believe we're talking Moreno over the guy we used to call CJ2K...but we are.
If McFadden doesn't go, is Jennings next in line?
Tom: Yes. B/c Reece also hurt. Not sure he goes either.
Is Bradshaw's neck injuring going to linger on for a few weeks or will he play this week?
Puff: As of yesterday they said he was still being evaluated. Don't like the sounds of that.
is it worth holding on to crabtree in a keeper league?
Blake: Yes. He's still young and reports are that he feels good about his progress. But he can't practice with team yet so we just don't see much.
Is Reggie Bush back?
J: I'd say so. Now the q is, can he stay back?
Need to RB fill-ins this week. options are Hillman and BJGE unless you could point me to a WW RB you like more
Like BJGE. Think Bengals can run against Wilfok-less Patriots.
Does VJax seem to be over his rib injury? Looking to trade for him.
Jacob: Sure didn't look it on Sunday. The good news is this is a bye week for him too so might be time to grab him. Of course you're dealing with the rookie WB too.
So with Amendola's injury - the muscle tore away from the bone, but he can't injure it further? How likely is he to compensate and injure something else? Makes me wince just thinking about it..
Scott: It is hard to imagine. But basically these muscles lie virtually one on top of the other. You get adjacent scarring; it's not like it flops around in there. But the compensation is a very real threat. You tend to lose power with this injury. Also worry about the scar contributing to decreased soft tissue flexibility. Then there's his history...
What's up with Jamaal Charles and blisters?
J: Wow -just realized this is second question for you. Not intentional but well done. Anyway, Reid's quote was "extensive" blisters. Went on to say he expected him for this week.
Danny Woodhead worth a start this week?
Grant: Sure made a case for it this past week.
I own the KC Defense. How healthy is Brandon Flowers and will he play this week?
Perry: He really looked like he was struggling in that Thursday night game and left the field several times. Then out obviously last week. Not sure we have a good indicator this early in the week how he's faring but hard to believe he's full health.
Different J, but thanks anyway!
Would you trade MJD for Amendola?
Bob: No. Amendola on my undraftable, no-trade list. Don't care about the talent. Too many red flags. Not anywhere near any of my 5 leagues. So far, feel pretty good about that decision.
Is Bilal Powel a good pick up with Ivory still hurt, or will Ivory get the lions share of the carries when he comes back?
Shane: Even if we think Ivory will get carries, we still don't know when he's coming back. So, pick up Powell.
Hi Stephania,Do you think Matt Kemp can recover from his injuries to play well again in the future?
Jean: Very timely question! I did a video blog entry on this exact topic with Eric Karabell today and it should be up on the site right now. (We also did one on Manny Machado). The short answer is yes, if he works hard in the offseason.
Vernon Davis made our Niners so much harder to defend. Is he all the way back?
Tore: Was lovely to have him back. Don't know if "all the way" back, but the ten day break between games is a huge help.
Did you just say 'J-wow'? Who else is on your Do Not Draft list? Number 7 for the Eagles?
Scott: Good call by you. No, not him. He's actually been pretty helpful in my War Room League. But McFadden was my other big one. Also Britt, although I think a number of people wised up to his issues after last year. Mathews I avoided but didn't feel as strongly about. Might have been a couple others. List wasn't super long but I was fully committed to it.
Do Ray Rice and Roddy White both fall into the group of guys that have to show you something before you start them?
Mike: Not really. Think White on the upswing - and with byes happening now, I might have no choice but to use him. Really depends on options. Think Rice is better after another week so I'd go back to him, even if not perfect.
Do you think Mark ingram will play sunday in Chicago? and who does your wardrobe?
Victor. Has yet to practice and in the absence of that, I'd bet against it. We'll see what happens as week goes on.And I'm not sure where you're headed with the second question, but no fancy wardrobe helper here. It's me, myself and I.
Hey Steph: Don't mean to criticize, but the Charles answer wasn't very helpful. You just basically parodied the ESPN blurb on him. What do "extensive blisters" mean about his productivity? How fast do they heal? If he plays how limited is he? Those details would be very helpful. Thanks!
Jim: Legitimate point. It's not like the situation with a pitcher. Don't get me wrong. Can be exceptionally painful. In-game can become a problem. But with the time post-game until the next week, they should settle. The rehab staffs are very adept at applying topical solutions that will decrease friction, providing padding/cushioning to offset pressure in the area. Basically, don't see them as a threat for this week.
Blog name suggestion: Castle Greyskulduggery
Ryan: Funny. But, no.
Is Fitz back to 100% healthy and a must start now?
Sully: Put it this way. It does not appear that the hamstring issue is an issue. Really looks more like himself now.
any news on the giants rb A. Brown? im thinking of stashing him on the ir
Corey: No. When those guys disappear on IR/des return, they disappear. We really don't hear much. They can't practice with the team. Rehab only and individual work. So we don't get much to work with here.
would you trade mcfadden, BJGE, and gates for Sproles and Gronk?
Mike: Yes. But you'd better have another tight end for the next week or two.
I like the idea of getting an answer from you as my newest trade involves 2 injury bugs and an "old" guy. I traded Frank Gore (THE U) for Ray Rice and V Jax. Did I perform highway robbery or will injuries for Rice and V Jax do me in?
Andy: Of course I think you committed a cardinal sin in getting rid of a veteran, from the U and a member of my beloved 49ers. And so far, even when Rice has been healthy he hasn't had near the production of Gore. Now, I think Rice will have much better days, but I don't know what's going to happen with Jackson - the ribs and the QB. I think the Gore owner got the better deal.
Dennis Pitta going to be able to contribute this year? He's in my IR spot.
Phil: Sounds like they hope to have him late in the season.
Thanks For The Awesome Chats! I Enjoyed Your Speech At The USC PT Graduation Ceremony. How Did You Come To Like The 49ers?
Gerald: Why, thank you! And, I grew up in the Bay Area...so it was a natural fit.
Thanks for coming everyone. Time for me to go. Great questions as always. Check out the newly psoted blog for updates. See you again Friday!!
