Good afternoon everyone...it's a gorgeous day in North Carolina...so, let's the gas and get this partaaayyy started!
I think Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch will have fun racing each other hard on Saturday...Sunday...Kenseth, Johnson, Harvick..they are my big three!
Zach, the big thing is that I need to get to the track and see where this car came from, Earnhardt-Ganassi or Phoenix Racing, and whether a few crewman have migrated from EGR to help Phoenix Racing this weekend. That's a big key..but Larson's rookie and there's no telling how he's going to react to running Cup for the first time. He's never had to race this hard for every position and some guys take to that with some getting frustrated in a big mistake. Practice and qualifying will tell us if he has the speed and we'll just have to go from there.
I'm with you Rosie..a lot of Kyle's problem in the Sprint Cup races at Kansas is mind over matter. He's a great driver and will get it figured out, but a lot of it is a negative attitude and that might cloud his thinking from making better decisions.
I'd say we're pretty close again Don...1.Matt Kenseth2.Jimmie Johnson3.Kevin Harvick4.Kurt Busch5.Kyle Busch6.Kasey Kahne7.Jeff Gordon8.Clint Bowyer9.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.10.Joey Logano11.Carl Edwards12.Martin Truex, Jr.13.Ryan Newman14.Denny Hamlin15.Greg Biffle16.Brad Keselowski17.Brian Vickers18.Marcos Ambrose19.Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.20.Paul Menard21.Jeff Burton22.Aric Almirola23.Jamie McMurray24.Mark Martin25.Juan Pablo Montoya26.Casey Mears27.Bobby Labonte28.David Gilliland
39,11, and the 9 or 17 Bill is where I 'd go.
Not sure what happens next Bill, we offer a unique product so, hopefully someone will be interested.
What's up my man...I think Kenseth brings the hammer along with Johnson and Harvick...just about everbody else will be the "nail"...lol
Also, do you think more teams will finish the race rather than start and park since there will be no travel involved?
Teri, there might be a car, two tops. How far a team runs usually revolves around the engine deal they have. They are limited to the number of laps they can run and the engine bill spikes..and to gain just a few spots and a few thousand more dollars usually isn't the right business decision for these financially strapped teams.
The ones I know of Friday night are Brian Vickers and Elliott Sadler...On Saturday night Matt Kenseth and Danica Patrick...I'm sure there will be others I just don't know who they are.
Nick on the ESPN team I might trade down from the 27 to say Burton or Hamlin...use the extra money to trade Newman to pull in either Kasey Kahne or Kurt Busch..The Y!team looks pretty good. I'd wait and see on 18 to see if he's going to react well from disappointment of last week...would not use 51 over 17.
I think all of those guys should be pretty solid this weekend. Hamlin's stats at Charlotte are impressive, but he hasn't finished top-10 since the year's 14th at Dover in June...think about that...that makes him suspect every week and there's no real explanation why he's done so poorly, not even his bum back can explain his utter lack of success in the seasno's second half.
I scored 159 with the Danica strategy...blowing the call on her, but making the right one by picking up Kevin Harvick and Paul Menard, trading Kyle and Stenhouse...won't do that again for awhile..that one left a mark..lol...Instead of Ambrose I'd take a flyer on Hamlin...save a ton $$ and might be able to add another big dog..Hamlin should be good for a top-15 at least.
That's not a bad strategy..Dillon, Hornish, and probably Smith will keep them honest, but the Cup guys will always have the advantage and, chances are, will always come out on top.
Katie, he will eventually be listed. That should happen today or tomorrow...as for whether he'll be a good pick or not...hard to tell..definitely can't call that shot until he's completed practice and qualifying.
Just e-mail ESPN contact about adding Kyle Larson again. They'll get it done.
Where do you think Kyle Larson will finish at Charlotte?
25th to 30th Teri would be a good night if he ran all the laps..Asking for more than that from a rookie might be a little much. I say hope for a 25 and anything better is, in the words of Dale Jr., gravy baby.
Guru... what is NASCAR trying to gain with the cars doing a 1 day test at charlotte for just 1.5 miles program... To me the only brand not to win on a 1.5 mile track was ford this year and they are getting a new nose for 2014
Mike, they are going to be trying new spoiler configurations, working on the dreaded aero push for one thing...I'm sure they'll try some different body modifications as well...not sure what else, but I'm sure NASCAR has a list.
Oh great Guru!!! Jimmie is currently paying $5.00 to the dollar for Charlotte this week. Worth a wager? Matt K is slightly lower.
That would be a pretty sane bet Chris...I'm take a piece of that action...:)
Hi Mark. Will this be a good team for sunday:48,99,11,18,& Mark Martin? Who are the best floor picks this week?
Jill, 48,99, and 18 should be solid..but need to mention like 78 and 5 better than 99...11 is risky, but he's got a solid track record at Charlotte...Martin is a different story, since taking over for Tony Stewart, Martin has best finish in nine races is a ninth place run at Richmond. All the other finishes have been 17th or worse and average finish has been 19.2.
Will Dale Jr win a race before the chase is over?
It's possible..he should have won a couple this year already...problem is the most the season goes on the more the pressure is going to build on Junior, maybe to the point that it really hinders a golden opportunity.
Hey buddy, I'm thinking about going out on a limb this weekend with 48,29,24,22 and 47 (Labonte). Your thoughts? I'm thinking Bobby can get a top 25 in his sleep at Charlotte and the other 4 have a chance to win or get top 5's. Thanks as always for your insight!!
If you want to pencil in Bobby for a 25th that would be okay..He's run the last five at Charlotte for JTG-Daugherty Racing finishing 24th or worse. 24th in the spring.. The other four should be solid.
So is a definite that ESPN won't be doing fantasy NASCAR next year? And if they are getting out of NASCAR will jayski continue to operate?
There will still be a Jayski and I'm sure they'll probably continue with their fantasy racing game too.
Mark, would it be wise to load up with the 48, 29,20, 18 and then pick up whoever practices and qualifies the best for this race?
Beckie, it just depends how far down the roster you have to go to find a "fit" for the fifth driver, you're "floor" pick. You go too low and you wind up with 1 point like I did last week.
Mark, I currently have 48,20,29,55,11 and can go another route - 78,24,5,22 and 11. Your Take and Thanks
I like the first team a little more Walt going in and think we'll just have to wait and see how qualifying and practice turns out.
Ricky Craven has his rule of 72 model to eliminate chase drivers, this week he eliminated the 5 & 39... do you have a way to do that, do you do it at all or do you believe in letting the races play out becasue each race is a wildcard in itself
My opinion Junior down is done...Kurt is barely in contention as is Biffle...five guys in it right now..two with a leg up...20 and 48...three hanging with them 29,24, and 18...my humble opinion...I know anything can happen..but the history tells you it won't.
For those of us still battling in Yahoo Fantasy, who are really short on C picks what 2 drivers from Mears and down in ESPN would you recommend? Need to set the roster today and then choose one of the two to start before the race.
There's Labonte..Ragan..and call me crazy again, but Danica was 21st and 20th in two prior 1.5-mile races before disaster at Kansas on slick tires and a slick track and I should have figured that in.
which non chase driver will win in the chase this year... Usually it happens by now at Kansas... i say either the 1 or 27 do it at Talladega in a couple of weeks
Among the non-Chase raceers who could win it's Keselowski or Truex unless Hamlin catches lightning in a bottle again.
What do you think about 48, 29, 5, 31, 11.......or 18 and 55 instead of 29 and 31.
If Burton can finish 12th like he did in the spring and he is running better now than he was then..I like the first team better Tom..feels a little safer too.
Shrub has won 12 times at Charlotte. Why do you not have him in your top 3 Saturday?
Rosie, the main reason is that I'm not sure how he's going to react to what happened last week at Kansas..will he roll into the race being able to put that behind him or not that's the big question? If he can, he'll be tough to handle. If he can't he could get into some trouble.
Still thinking Jeff Burton might be a RCR satellite with the 30 or 7 car? Seems like he has a plan anyway.
That could be what's going on.
hi-mark what is your logic having vickers ahead of burton this week and what is your pre-charlotte team that you pick on wendsday thnx you
John picking Vickers ahead of Burton a little bit of a "gut" feel, but feel his tenth place run at Atlanta on a wore out track like Charlotte impressed me..
With Chad Johnston jumping ship and others on the NAPA team "free to look elsewhere", there is no way Truex comes back to MWR. What are your thoughts?
I agree...it looks like MWR to two cars with somewhere around 80-90 guys losing their jobs, which is the worst part. 78 would love to have Truex in that car, but hasn't been finalized yet.
How much weight do you give to past history, recent races, and practice times when setting your top 30 or this week top 28 ;- )
oops...29.David Ragan30.Kyle Larson........I mix it all in except practice times..past history, recent races...do they have momentum or not...how they've done on similiar tracks etc...and bake it and see what I come up with.
Mark, how is this team for this weekend? 29, 20, 48, 78, 47 or should I go a different route?
The 47 has runner better as of late with Allmendinger in it so that will hopefully rub off on Bobby Labonte. He was 24th in this car in this year's Coke 600...anything more would be bonus and that's how I'd figure it. 29,20,48, and 78 could all run top-5.
What does your initial team look like for this week ol wise one. Will u still be running Jayski next year?
I kept Harvick, Johnson, and Kenseth...traded Menard and Danica for Hamlin and Vickers...
No Danica in your Top 28. Typo, or are you that soured on her after her "performance" at Kansas?
I thought I would give her a break from the spotlight in my pre-race preview..Again, she was 20th and 21st in last two 1.5-mile races prior to Kansas and if I sense she's that good again I'll put her back into the top-30 on race day.
Is this a better lineup: 29,48,88,42,& 11? Thanks
Not a big fan of the 42 at Charlotte Jill. He was 18th in the spring and average finish is 23.4..I might try again.
What Cars do you think will be Out of the Bank of America 500 & the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte due to Engine Failures?
Impossible to know that one Chris.
And Butternuts...I don't even know the pregnant lady you're talking about..lol
Hi Mark! What do you think of the 88,39,78 and 16 this week? Should I use Kyle's last start at Charlotte, or save it for another day? Thanks for the chats, hope you can find another place to do it!
Jonathan, I think the 78 could be top-5..88 dark-horse top-5 and probable top-10..Newman possible top-10, but feels more like top-15..same thing for Biffle...and thanks!
what time does the q&a on saturday start ?thnk you
We hope to be rolling by 4:00 eastern time Saturday John.
I heard Brian Scott (33) is in RCR equipment and backed by Childress. Any idea why Scott and not one of the Dillon boys?
Just part of a deal Zippy they have with Scott..He came over to RCR with the idea they could work him into a few Sprint Cup races. He's a guy I'll also be keeping an eye on because he'll be cheap $$ and, as you pointed out, that will be RCR equipment not the normal stuff run by Joe Falk.
Gururoni, It's worth a google lol...she was on a tv series. I think the ol two-niner is fixing to get on a roll here Mark. I think he's hungry and frankly just a little teed off that they said it was only a 3 man chase. Look for him to be the closer once again this weekend, especially if the 5 has a misstep.
Harvick is certainly focused and driving like he's a man on a mission..We've already had a championship crew chief who didn't return to the same team the following year (Darian Grubb) why a driver now?
Looks like that's going to do it for this week..thanks everyone for "tuning" in..again remember Saturday afternoon at 4:00 eastern we'll get the Charlotte race day, after we talk to the crew chiefs, chat underway..Until then have a great week. Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
