Howdy folks. Fire when ready.
Classless or good fun from the radio jocks in Seattle encouraging Husky Fans to rip down the Coug flag on College Gameday? I say classless
Where are you going to be this weekend?
Oregon at Washington.
Who do you think gets more yards through the air on Saturday, Oregon St. or Wazzu?
I think we may get a surprise: A better than expected Beavers running game, with 3 O-linemen and Storm Woods back. As far as passing yards, I lean toward the Cougs.
Who do you like as the next coach for USC? Not who's the favorite, who would be best?
I love the idea of Kevin Sumlin at USC. I know some USC fans are traditionalists and want to retain a pro-style offense, but Sumlin would be too good to pass up.
The Utes O and D lines seem to be on a PAC12 level, and we have a PAC 12 QB now. What are we missing?
Probably could be better at WR, DB, RB and LB, but that is specific to this team (and injuries). The Utes biggest area is catching up to Pac-12 depth... teams like Oregon & Stanford don't slip much with backups.
How big of a deal is losing Murphy for the Utes passing game?
It's big. He's a big target, an outlet and a good guy in the redzone. Tonga needs to step up.
Who wins the PAC-12 north if Washington beats Oregon and Oregon beats Stanford? (That is if they all go undefeated the rest of the season)
Not enough info... go to the Pac-12 page and look up the tiebreaker. It's too early to play this game.
You buying the sick day excuse for T Wilson's 6 pick performance?
I certainly believe it was a contributing factor. Seriously doubt they are making it up.
will Cal win another game this year?
The most likely win is at Colorado on Nov. 16, but that's no longer a gimme. My guess, though, is the Bears will at some point shock us with an upset.
Be honest, who do you think will win this weekend? Washington or Oregon.
Oregon.... that's who I picked. I'm hoping for a great game.
Cody Kessler. Lost in the aftermath of the ASU game is the fact that the Trojans scored 41 points. Is Kessler ready to step up and carry the team without Marqise?
I think it starts with a consistent running game. The Trojans have some issues at receiver. Without Lee, they have very little depth. My guess is we will see more from TEs Grimble and Telfer.
Who has the advantage tonight? My D or the USC offense?
With Lee out, I'm a lean toward your defense. The bigger issue is how much of a passing game the Wildcats offense generates. I think USC can score enough at home to win.
How much of an impact do you think a sold-out Martin Stadium will have this weekend vs Oregon State?
It should be a rocking atmosphere but.. Oregon State has won five of the last six meetings in the series. In the Beavers last four games against the Cougs held outside the state of Oregon, the Beavers have scored at least 30 points in each contest.
Think the Huskies will fake injuries to try and slow down the Ducks?
Is Myles Jack the best true freshman in the country?
Kevin and I were talking about him this week. Lots of good true freshmen, but I'd rate him the best LB... at least that I know of. Of course, the Pac-12 might have the all-frosh team locked up at LB with Jack, Arizona's Scoobie Wright and Colorado's Addison Gillam.
Do you think the NFL needs to bite the bullet and start a minor league so guys who don't belong in college (e.g. Colt Lyarla) have a place to develop football skills.
It makes sense. But I don't anticipate it happening anytime soon. See how the D-league hasn't changed college basketball.
Do you think Sean Mannion's numbers are high only because he has yet to face a top 25 defense? I don't see him passing for four hundred against teams like Oregon or Stanford.
That's possible... Utah is pretty good on D, but that's about it. But it's not about passing for 400 yards against those teams. It's about being efficient.
You forgot Sua Cravens on your All-Frosh team!! He's been a beast.
yep... but he's a safety. Was talking LBs. Lots of great frosh in Pac-12... QB Jared Goff at Cal is one too.
Is the Cougar D-line the best pass-rush the Beavers will have faced to date this season?
Utah leads the Pac-12 in sacks with 18. Cougs have 10. But the Cougs D-line is very good. It will be interesting to see how much better the Beavers O-line will be with the return of 3 starters and Seumalo back at center. Remember that we all thought the Beavs O-line would be a strength.
What goes into Pac 12 scheduling? Seems Washington is behind the 8 ball by having to play Stanford and Oregon back to back?
UCLA has the same deal Oct. 19 & 26. Certainly a rugged 1-2 punch. But if you want to play with the big boys... you got to play with the big boys. Or you know, something like that.
Chances Utah pulls the upset this weekend? 35-40%?
If Oregon/Stanford, Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson all go undefeated who do you think makes into the Natty?
Last year the Huskies were so young, that they're still considered young this year. Do you agree with that or are they considered "veterans" yet?
Washington is a pretty veteran team with 20 returning starters from 2012, 16 junior or senior starters.
Chances J Wilcox is the next USC coach.
More likely he's the next Washington coach.
Ted, I've participated in everyone of your chats since they resumed this season, and would appreciate if you'd answer at least one of my questions. I'll try again. Do you think one of the top defensive coordinators in the conference (Pendergast, Mason, or Wilcox) will be a head coach somewhere this time next year?
I rate the odds at 50-50 one will get a head coaching gig in 2014.... Wilcox is the most likely. I actually wonder if Mason's next step might be the NFL.
What are your favorite questions to answer during these weekly chats?
the good ones.
Now that they have announced that the UCLA-Stanford game is being played at 12:30 on ABC, will this game get the national hype it deserves?
Assuming both win this weekend, it will be a top-10 matchup. That alone will make it a centerpiece game. So, yes. It will be plenty hyped. Only problem is Clemson-FSU is also on the 19th
Who'd win an arm wrestle, you or Kevin?
that's like asking which is stronger: An irresistible force or an immovable object. We might get a nuclear meltdown. Neither of us would want that.
What year do you expect Mariota to enter the draft?
I think he will take a serious look at his prospects this winter.
Does Hundley stay one more year? Should he stay another year?
Just like Mariota, I'm guessing he reviews his options. Hard to pass up being a first-round pick, and I think both Mariota & Hundley would be.
Does Carey leave me after this year for the NFL?
What's up with Sefarian-Jenkins??
He hasn't had a huge impact... yet. Might be his weekend. Part of the issue, is the Huskies are so good at WR now, they don't need him in the passing game like they did last year. I hear S-J is blocking well, though.
any insights/view on UW's QB situation after this year? they'll get most of the OL/DL back, and have great skill at WR so could be dangerous in 2014, right?
Sounds like they are high on Cyler Miles. He's the frontrunner for 2014. And, yes, the offense should be pretty strong again next year, though Sankey might be hard to replace.
Is sankey off to the NFL next year too?
I think yes...
I know we haven't pulled off the upsets yet, but don't we look noticeably better this year here in SLC?
Utah definitely has taken a step forward, and much of that is due to QB play. Homefield advantage is big. I do think Utah wins a Pac-12 game as an underdog this year. Not sure it will be Stanford or Oregon though.
How many wins will Colorado finish with especially after the addition of Charleston Southern game
I predict four wins.
What are your thouhgts on Andy Buh's performance so far? Can we even form an opinion with all of the injuries at Cal this year.
I don't think you can. I mean... come on. The Bears aren't just missing guys, they are missing their best guys. Imagine how good the D-line would be with Jalil and Scarlett?
Given our road woes, how nervous should SunDevil fans be about our Halloween game in Pullman or our game in Salt Lake City the following week?
Arizona State is not good enough to not worry about any road game. Heck, the Pac-12 is on such a top-to-bottom uptick, no team is safe on the road against anybody.
dont forget about breske with your top D coordinator talk.
He's certainly answered the "Who? when Mike Leach first hired him. He won me over to the potential for great improvement during the offseason.
Do you think any team will offer me a coaching job again? Or is my destiny here at the Pac-12 Networks?
You could get a coaching job if you wanted, though maybe not with an AQ contender. But you already are one of the best analysts in the nation. And that's a lot less stressful.
If Oregon continues to win convincingly, will they jump Alabama for first place if the Alabama/Tennessee game is close?
maybe... Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt with most folks, but the Ducks have a tougher schedule ahead.
Wildcats - Over/Under 6.5 wins this year?
With Philly's first pick in the draft, will Chip take Colt Lyerla?
no.... but Chip might be temped by Mariota/Hundley.
Do the Ducks Need DAT to win this weekend, or are they deep enough to overcome the loss.
I picked Oregon to win assuming he wouldn't play.
If you're a betting man, how many years does Denny Erickson stick around at Utah?
It seems like a great fit. Dennis just loves coaching football. I'd guess 2 more seasons.
What have you heard about Keith Price's pro prospects?
They are getting better. Height is an issue, but he's proven that 2012 was a fluke.
Sark has to jump at USC job, no? More money, bigger spotlight, easier recruiting - please explain why he would not jump?
First, USC has to offer. Second, he might like what he's got at Washington. But, yes, it would be hard to turn down USC.
Not to jump ahead of ourselves, but if UCLA wins its next three games (Cal, @Stan, @Oreg), it has the two most quality wins in the country right? Does that tranlaste to a top-2 spot in the rankings?
I'd rank them in the top-2. An unbeaten Clemson-FSU winner would also be in that picture.
If Sarkisian goes to sc could the huskies pry Mora from UCLA?
That would set up an interesting dynamic. I know a lot of folks in Seattle who really like and admire Mora. UCLA likely would have to ante up to keep him -- and ante up for his outstanding coaching staff.
Hi Ted, sorry I'm late, had to get the potroast in the oven...I'm assuming you and/or Kevin will be covering UO/UW game - any chance you make a guest appearance on Game Day?
I'm doing GameDay radio. I have a face for radio.
Does anybody make a name for themselves this year on the AZ receiving corps?
If David Richards gets back to form, he's a guy who could make an impact. But I'm not sure if Denker is the sort who can make a name for a receiver.
What would Wazzu have to do to crack the top-25 this season?
win 3 of their next four games.
Where does UW have the advantage on Saturday? It feels like for every one of their strengths, Oregon is at least an equal?
1. Homefield; 2. LB; 3. RB. 4. TE; 5. K.
They both have great skill players and QB's, but who has the advantage in the trenches between Oregon and Washington?
Edge to Oregon on both lines, but the Huskies are closer than I thought they'd be in August.
Are there any position groups where Utah has the advantage over Stanford?
My first answer would be kicker & punter... that might be it.
Which has the better odds: Mannion throws 5 TD's or 2 INT's this weekend?
2 Ints... 5 Tds is pretty hard to do. Of course, he's done it twice this year (6 & 5 in fact) and has yet to throw 2 INTs. I don't think the Beavers will dominate the Cougs in the passing game on the road.
How much would this shock you:UW 35Oregon 28
I'd be mildly but not completely shocked. The Huskies are good, and at some point they will beat the Ducks again.
Stanford defense doesn't look nearly as stout as in years past, do they get too much cred based on reputation?
The numbers aren't great, but I'd still pick the Stanford D if I had to play a game next weekend against, say, Alabama. The Cardinal completely dominated ASU for three quarters before taking the fourth off. The Huskies did some nice things, no doubt. We'll see how things look over the totality of the season.
Is Anthony Barr better than Clowney?
They are both beats. As of today, you'd have to rate Barr more of a team player, and that matters. Clowney seems more unblockable at times, but he also takes plays off. Barr doesn't do that.
What are Ducks' fans going to do if things fall apart in the next few years and they have to suffer through several losing seasons?
That's not likely to happen, but they probably could ask their Husky friends for advice on how to handle it... I kid! I kid!
Neurtal site - UCLA v. UW. Who wins?
The team with more points! I'd lean toward Washington right now, but only slightly. And the Huskies play at UCLA on Nov. 15, and they still need to show they can win a big one on the road. Let's see where each team is in advance of that.
Have you seen pictures/renderings of the Cougs new football only facility? I'm excited, and it seems like recruits are too.
Got to keep up with the Jones.... great AD at WSU in Bill Moos. Guy who got things started at Oregon. Knows how to get boosters on board.
If you and Kevin were calling a football game for tv, who would be the play-by-play guy and who would provide color commentary?
Folks... big turnout today! I've got to go, but thanks for stopping by. See you next week.
